This is the thread where I got to know Theresa. The marathon walk in Hawaii, and trying out new diet options.

I'm thinking about taking myself to Arby's and have a corned beef sandwich, to remind myself that we've got to enjoy every minute we have -- because we don't know how many we will have.

    Theresa - I'll miss you.

If the weather is as nice there as it is here, zip up your jacket and walk to Arby's - you can have your sandwich guilt-free.

I'm going to miss her too. It's strange how attached you can get to someone you've never met.

Rose and KariLynn, what do you mean, you're going to miss Theresa? I'm Liza and although I've only posted a few times on this thread, I've got it listed as one of my favorites, so I keep up with the posts. I'm confused about Theresa...

Rose this thread was where I met Theresa too! She was so much fun! Life is too short for some!

I don't know what I will eat today but I really am going to enjoy my sons today!

It is hard to fathom that Theresa is not with us anymore.

I went to Arby's at the Mall for lunch and had a french dip for Theresa.

I just wish I could tell her how much she meant to me one more time...

I'm not an advocate of emotional eating, so it will have to be memorial eating.

Oh gosh Rose, I am doing emotional/memorial eating! I admit it I need a fix, I just hurt too dang much to rationalize it! I must emote! She would have loved it and then reminded me to get back on program which I will do otherwise I can hear her saying "what are you doing Kathy?"

    Hi All,

I am so shocked and stunned by this sad news. I'm sitting here crying like a baby for Theresa and I can't stop it.

She was so young and so hopeful all the time. I just don't want to believe this is true. We'll miss you Theresa.

Rosemary - I've been thinking of you. I was at the grocery store and saw the cereal that lists 'twigs' as a component.
I haven't bought it, but it gives me a smile whenever I see it.

We've all been in need of smiles this week.

Cowgirl - just because of you I put some asparagus on my salad at the salad bar this morning. I guess we know it's spring.

Had my French Dip at Arby's for lunch. Those are tasty. The sauce is a little weird. Isn't Au Jus sauce supposed to be thin? I think this had some cornstarch or something in it.

I think this may be my 'memorial' eating day. I can have that asparagus salad with Thai Peanut noodles for supper - not that I"m hungry after the FD.

my jus for the french dip was quite thin, i was pleased with myself that i went no cheese...

very busy, mother visiting from hawaii, dbf and i looking for new home...

yesterday, while looking at a place that won't be ready for two and one half years, i started wondering if i will be alive then?

i am just having such a hard time with the suddeness of theresa's passing and the fact that the beast got her.

just can't seem to get moving on yet, but i know i will and that i have to...

love the asparagus these days, do it steamed with a gremolata sprinkled over it...yum...

great recipes over at epicureous.com, i made prosciutto stuffed tenderloin with mushroom sauce from there the other night and my house guests raved...

they all think i am nuts to keep running off to check on my board buddies...but one thing for sure, i don't really worry about what others think about me anymore...

    good to see you rosemarie...

i had a sunshine cupcake yesterday for theresa...memorial eating will be going on for sometime in my world.

it seems to be a nice moment to be eating something decadent thinking of theresa...

    take care...

I am going to drink some green tea in honor of Theresa, she would have liked me to do that!

Rosemary so very glad you are posting too!

It all seems real and unreal. We knew she was ill, but Theresa like Kathy had this " I am not going to die" spirit. It seems like they never actually gave up until the very end.

I have cried many tears these last few days. I used to be so much less emotional before BC.

I found that Mother Theresa Cake thing I would like to make that!

So we can visit despair but we can not park in it. I said that after Kathy died. Mourning is okay but parking in grief will not honor her memory! Which means I have to Cowboy up and let Theresa Go. She is in a better place, and I know it.

I was in the kitchen today looking at something and some quip she said I thought about!

And Laura You will be here in 3 or 4 Years! God knows I am okay to make it without you and Rose! That is all there is to it! We are going to be survivors.

If you go I am going to pull out of that Coffin and get you to typing some stinkin dinner ideas! The kids are so thankful there is color in their meals now. You have to be here!

My arm is Killing me BTW, dinner is iffy. Dishes are a pain but laundry is a no go. The boys have done most of the cooking and all the laundry. I did a big clean yesterday, and that was a mistake. I am about ready to beg for a sling now.

We washed the goats only to put them in a mud pit pen, so TD scraped it for about an hour and it does look better but they will probably be muddy tomorrow. And we have a clinic to go to! They need to look pretty, I wanted to shave them today but I couldn't get the clippers so next weekend they will so pretty!

And yes I am not using my arm but only if it feels okay to do so, that is what the doctor said.

    My brain is now empty!!
    You take care too!!!!

I agree, Laura needs to stick around so we can have some more good dinner ideas.

Keep an eye on those boys doing the laundry. One of mine overdoes it on the bleach, and the other stuffs the washer with 3x as many clothes as he should.

What's the end-use for these goats? Do you show them, or eat them?

We can't waste our lives feeling sorry. Give us another few days, and then it's back to beans and rice and vegies.

So far TD is doing the laundry well, matter of fact the washer was acting up for me you know filling and not unfilling but he got it working fine! I remember how many of my white underwear were pink in high school. At 16 we all had to do our own laundry, and I know it will be that for TD. So he is pretty good. The middle son overloads, or better yet forgets to add soap! The youngest is great at the dryer, he is just not tall enough to do the washer.

After we show them we normally sell them to a truck that takes them to a happy farm(hey I am not telling my youngest any reality right now), they are allowed to grow a bit more and then they are meat. Goat meat is the number growing crop in Ag right now in the USA.

But right now we are preparing ourselves, there are a couple of them I just know it will be very hard to let go of. TD wants Grandpa to take a couple to eat down around farm implements. He hasn't asked yet because the answer will probably be no, goats take a different fence than we have.

Yesterday my middle son and I were talking about them having to go on the truck, and it will be very hard. But this is a business, and that is the reality of it. He knows where the cattle go. Hubby is very good at explaining that it is a business, and you have to do certain things.

So I can only hope they can let go with few tears, last year we all bawled and I don't think this year will be any different.

But on to happier ideas! I made a pot of beans yesterday in hopes that I would have beans to add to things all week. Well they are Gone, everyone was so happy to have actual cooked food they ate them up. Now I have nothing healthy and protein based for breakfast. So I am going to have to rethink this thing.

My BIL cooks a pot of beans each week in the crockpot and uses them in all ways all week(he told me not to soak just rinse and throw them in there!). So I thought I would do the same, I should have remembered he is one person, we are five, and he is thin! He and my youngest eat when they are hungry and never any other time.

So if you do this be prepared, they smelled so good all day I think everyone was ready for them.

    Hi Rose, Laura and Cowgirl

Yes, I'm still eating those twigs. I found out the hard way about eating a high fiber diet, it can cause us to go a tad anemic. I remember you posting about being a little anemic Rose, did you get it under control?

I'm never without a little research on some subject so I found out we should be taking a 1000 mgs of Vit. C after eating wheat. The C helps in the iron absorption. And so does a nice glass of white wine. Isn't that nice to know. How come we never hear about those types of research projects? Sign me up.

Laura, I was browsing the shelves at GNC last week and found a maximum fruits powder. Since we both drink powders, I thought maybe you'd be interested. It says it's high in antioxidant super fruits. I figured what the heck, I'll try it. It's a little sweet. If I keep this up with all the powders, I won't have to chew anymore.

I'm happy we'll still be following this diet plan even after the research news came out. All I know is since I've started this way of eating, my cholesterol numbers have come down sharply, and my husbands blood pressure is back in normal range. I'm not convinced those ladies in the project followed this diet very well. For all we know they ate 20% fats from bacon grease everyday.

I saw Fiber One the other day in the store and I thought of you! It was all I could do to get them down with chocolate on top!

That is a new one on me about Fiber Rosemary! Who would have thought it? My friend has been battling anemina for a long time I will relay the information to her.

Okay when you say wheat do you mean like a piece of bread of what? A bowl of cereal?

I just find out so much from you ladies, I am more of a cook person. I know very little research at all, if not for google I would know none!

Congrats on your numbers that is very good news Indeed!

If I ever find a chocolate study I am so there!

Yes I got my anemia situation fixed up.

You are not alone in thinking the research may not have turned out very accurate results. It's a shame because it was a big seemingly well designed study. It's just that self-reports over such a long period of time would strike anybody as hard to quantify.

    good evening dear ladies...

yes, i think the research was at best loose and inconclusive...i am very wary of self report diet studies...
i agree with rosemary that this is the diet for good health and anti-tumour growth...

i love the emergency-c powders and drink a couple each day...one with lysine....love the tangerine flavored one and my son does too...

i am having tons of family issues right now, trying to help my sisters children get their mother back...long story...stressful but definitely something to get my mind off other things...

flew home (nocal) today from bf house (socal), they had four inches of rain here last night! all the flowers i planted before i left two weeks ago are so beautiful, even in the rain and it is absolutely pouring now.

when i was young we used to raise our own pigs and cows for meat, it was hard to know they were to be butchered but really enjoyed the chops and steaks.

i am beat, going to sign off but glad to catch up here.
you are all so great, i really enjoy coming here and hope to add something a bit more constructive tomorrow after some rest!

    Cowgirl,

Yes, the vitamin C should be taken if your eating a wheat cereal in the morning, or a lot of wheat products during the day.

I think we just missed another chocolate study. They announced today it lowers blood pressure and the participants didn't gain weight. That's my kind of chocolate!

    Laura,
Sounds rough, I really hate family drama. We have one going here and I want to go away but it won't.

Rose after 50 calicium supplements are no good that is the latest study! Just a matter of a few years!

I love how the rain perks up the plants!!

Gotta get ready for Austin traffic for genetic testing, I do believe I hate it as much as LA traffic!

One of my biggest downfalls is eating dark chocolate, as I know it is such a good antioxidant. But I recently heard or read something about chocolate being a blood thinner because of the caffeine and not to be eaten before surgery. Does anyone have any info on this? I can't find anything specific on the net. As I am soon facing surgery, this would be a good reason for me to stay away from it for awhile.
BTW, I am down 2 1/2 pounds since the 24th. This is usually temporary, though. But I have hope!!!

    Yeah - 2 1/2 pounds.

Chocolate has a lot of fat, and almost no 'chew value' - meaning you can snarf a lot of it down pretty fast without realizing it.

Since you'll be inactive because of your foot and the surgery it might be wise to forgo that anxitoxent in favor of one with fewer calories and more chew value.

how about channeling chocolate while eating brocolli?

without calcium supplements, what are the best sources...?

oatmeal breakfast, broccholi, salad and crab for lunch...i am back in the saddle!

    antioxidants...green tea!
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    Benefits of Green Tea
There are four primary polyphenols in green tea and they are often collectively referred to as catechins.

Powerful antioxidants, catechins have been shown in recent studies to fight viruses, slow aging, and have a beneficial effect on health. Clinical tests have shown that catechins destroy free radicals and have far-reaching positive effects on the entire body.

Free radicals are highly reactive molecules and fragments of molecules that can damage the body at the cellular level leaving the body susceptible to cancer, heart disease, and many other degenerative diseases.

    EGCG is a potent antioxidant.

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an antioxidant found in green tea, is at least 100 more times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA from damage believed to be linked to cancer, heart disease and other serious illnesses. This antioxidant has twice the benefits of resveratrol, found in red wine.

    Special Benefits of Green Tea
Reduces high blood pressure. Drinking green tea represses angiotensin II which leads to high blood pressure.

Lowers blood sugar. Green tea polyphenols and polysaccharides are effective in lowering blood sugar.

Fights cancer. There have been many studies that have shown that green tea catechins are effective at preventing cancer.

Green tea also boosts the immune system because of its high concentrations of polyphenols and flavenoids.

Green tea antioxidants have been shown to lower cholesterol.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Green Tea May Reduce Breast Cancer

A new met-analysis shows that drinking five cups of green tea a day may reduce your risk of developing breast cancer by 22 per cent. This meta-analysis used the same data that was used for analysis by the FDA. The FDA has concluded that there is very little science to support the claims that green tea decreases the risk of cancer.

Various previous epidemiological and laboratory studies have linked green tea to reduced risks of breast, lung, prostate and ovarian cancer. As a result of these studies, sales for green tea have been steadily increasing in Europe and US.

Tea contains a compound called polyphenol, which is claimed to offer protection from cancer. While green tea contains between 30 and 40 per cent of water-extractable polyphenols, black tea contains only 3 to10 per cent polyphenols.

This meat-analysis is, published in the current issue of on-line journal Carcinogenesis. The study draws its conclusion for green tea from three cohort and one population-based study for green tea, while five cohort and eight case-control studies were analyzed for a link between black tea and breast cancer.

The researchers say that green tea users had approximately 20 per cent statistically significant reduction in risk of breast cancer. There was no such protective effect detected with black tea. Indeed, the results were contradictory: the cohort studies showed a small increased risk of breast cancer, while the case-control studies showed a small decreased risk.

i drink a green jasmine tea that i love hot or cold...

    eat well and live strong,
