I'm making tomato sauce from the romanos my dad gave me this week. Then I'm gonna try a bit of ice wine that we bought this morning at the LCBO here. Same stuff as we had at NOTL! with some strawberry trifle. Can't wait!
I'm not addressing everyone cause me too tired.
-
I am literally drooling thinking of L's sandwich. Bought some eggplant at farm the other day, also fresh onions. Never had an onion that didn't have that peely paper layer on the outside. Farmer said to put in Fridge to keep fresh, also fresh garlic - WOW! That stuff is powerful.
Also orange beets. I know, I've never seen them b4 either, but figure if the farmer can grow them, I might as well try'em. I LOVE red carrots, also white carrots ( not parsnips, really, white carrots) - making a salad is kind of like painting.
Rest Blue, there's nothing to add
Tho' now know what you were talking about last night. Is there a word batshitcrazy, or did someone make it up? If not, there's a need for it or whatever someone comes up with. Madness. Giggled when you once described it as OCD, doing the same thing over&over&over&over but so far beyond funny now. Feel so badly & sad for her/them. Definitely not changing my name, tho. Still trying to find a way to post a sunflower avatar. Every time I try, it's the "wrong" format? Even tried with the beautiful blue glass bowl of them Bren posted once
Some day.... -
OK - I'm officially pissed!!! The BCO bar and grill is great!!! I've been told by the locals that the more you drink, the more likely you are to see Nessie. I'm trying really hard. A sweet wee man called Brian did indeed pick us up and brought us back. DH not happy with this place but the room is fine. We expect B&B people to be more friendly.
Leg not hurting but I can''t walk normally - almost like I've had a stroke and one side has been affected.
Sue
-
Susie -- A little drambuie in your morning coffee might be all you need (to see nessie, that is!). However, would a doctor visit be in order for your leg problem?
Sunflowers -- We have golden beets in our garden. Grew them last year and I really like them. They are less sweet than the red ones.
-
Just noticed it's only a double bed - FFFF. Whatever. DH snoring his head off as usual.
I will try too see a doc but I'm sure there's nothing one could do, I do have a chronic back problem. I need the traction machine my physio puts me on andhis manipulation technique.
God DH is f-ing loud!!!
Sue in Scotland - I absolutely love Loch Ness!!! Gorgeous!!!!
-
Susie, please go see a doctor. That doesn't sound good. I still can't get my two sides to coordinate so I know how it feels.
-
Thanks Sweetie - I'll try.
-
Susie
PLEASE see a doc - it's easy in the UK, and you are covered as a resident of Aussie Land.
Also, BreatheRite strips for your DH

-
At least that nice bottle of Sth African white has numbed it

God - DH just let out a god awful snort so I elbowed him
-
Sue ... glad you're loving Scotland. All that snoring sounds a bit much though! Your DH seems to be able to sleep through anything. ha!
Blue .. the tomato sauce sounds wonderful.
Linda .. wish I was close enough to have dinner with you tonight.
Sunflowers .. I wish I could set up your avatar for you. I don't understand why the blue vase/sunflowers pics can't be used as an avatar. Maybe it's too big. I can make it smaller and repost it if you want to try that.
Well .. time to feed the dogs and forage for something to eat. Can't wait for Tim to get home tomorrow .. we're going to bbq Sunday and Monday .. yay!
hugs,
Bren
-
A pillow would work better than strips
Cheeky Susie!! -
I mustn't be that pissed to type
Better go to sleep - love you girls!!! -

Sunflowers .. I made it smaller so maybe it will copy into your avatar easier.
-
I love that pic Bren!
-
HEY, I think it worked!!!!
YEAH, BREN!!!!! IT WORKED... thank you - I LOVE THAT PICTURE!!
eta: maybe I should change my screen name to TheseareBren'sflowers
-
Sunflowers ... I'm so happy it worked! Love the avatar!
hugs,
Bren

Beautiful sunflowers Sunflowers.
Sue I do not sleep when my DH snores. I feel for you.
Another thing I am glad for...a website that is moderated so the nonsense is kept to a minimum.
About my lazy day...by lunch time I had cleaned a bathroom, vacuumed, swept the kitchen floor, deleted a bunch of pictures from my camera.and put a bunch of stuff I had put in the house from the old car into the new one. Then Hal came home from the grocery store. I helped him put things away and then I took a nap. I would have kept going but I was so tired I thought I was going to cry. So much for lots more energy and at least I got a lazy afternoon. I think I push to much.
I am trying to read Emporer of all Maladies. It is very well written but I thnk it is stirring up things I didn't know were there. I can only read a little at a time.
I have also started reading The Help and tha stirs up emotions too. I have a book with three novels in it called The Death by Bikini Mysteries. It may be a better fit for my mood.
I have been inside in the ac all day. If it doesn't start raining or thundering I will go for a swim in a while. Well, I will probably float on a raft but I'd like to get in the water.
-
Rosemary, I was tempted to go jump in my daughter's pool today too, but was too tired after running all my errands.
-
The first year the TaTa Sisterhood got together I sent a PM asking if I could come even though all I had was a lumpectomy
A group of ladies became friends on a breast reconstruction thread and they decided to put it together.ANYBODY can come. Believe me it is nothing but a 3 or 4 day party - I am getting in a day early so it will be 4 days for me along with some of the originals from the 1st reunion.
The first year we had 25 ladies show up. The second year I believe 52 women came and then this year we have around 60 coming. Most of us stay in the same hotel but some people get free rooms from previous Vegas trips (the professional gamblers) and they stay elsewhere but we have many activities to meet up. Nobody sleeps. A heads up if you are thinking about coming because we have reservations at several functions and we need to know asap if more people are going to show up.
-
Rosemary - I found it dificult to read The Emperor in the beginning - felt MUCH better as it went on, and realized how much has been learned - and grateful I got the Beast in 2007, and not even 10 years earlier.
I loved The Help - haven't seen the movie, probably won't. I also loved Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, if you want a "sweet read."
-
Sunflowers - I saw "The Help" book at Costco but didn't get it the other day. I am still reading a John Grisham novel "The Confession" and am about to finish it.
I need to iron but don't have the motivation.
-
Hey, if we don't have a bartender yet tonight, I'll volunteer, cuz everyone knows how much I like to "stir things up."
Funny, if it weren't so sad. I could recite The Jabberwocky while I'm stirring, too. -
Sunflowers, be my guest. I'm a little under the weather today, so glad for the help. Ill have a ginger ale.
-
Sunflowers, would you please make mine a margarita? Heavy on the fake margarita mix (I don't need that expensive stuff) and light on the tequila. I think I just like the lime juice.
Sounds like things are peaceful so far tonight. Susieq, I second & third the recommendations that you get your leg-thing checked out, if it doesn't go away on its own really soon. Especially if you can see a doc easily because of your UK connections....
We are sitting in the pickup truck in a city park in Butte, Montana. The town gets lots of teasing because of its name, but it's actually a very nice, very old, very well-maintained city that used to be much larger than it is now. It's the home of the "Berkeley Pit," an enormous (mile across) open pit mine from which zillions of tons of copper and other valuable metals were taken since the mid-1950's. Funny thing is that the "pit" has filled up with water, now that the mining operation is closed and they've stopped pumping water out of all the other underground mines in the area. So now it's like the "Berkeley Lake" or something, except that the pH is really low and the water is chock-full of minerals. The EPA is making them clean up the water once it reaches a depth that endangers the local water table. (It doesn't so far.)
Last night the temperature in our travel trailer got down to 39 degrees. That would really suck, except we brought lots of warm blankets and even a sleeping bag we can un-zip and use as a quilt. So we were comfy warm until getting-up time. Hubs made pancakes with maple syrup for breakfast, which was very nice.
Hi to everybody. Anyone in the path of Tropical Storm Lee (besides me, if I was home)? Sounds like it will be a lot of rain, which some parts of the Deep South need.
Sunflowers, I love your new avatar. It makes me happy.

Sorry you're under the weather - we all know Ginger Ale is the best for when feeling wonky. I still keep a bottle in my kitchen, just in case, and it's been years since chemotherapy!
Meant to ask, what books (fiction) have people read lately and LOVED. I'm always looking for new authors. Admit, tho, don't like Grisham, or most of the "popular" writers. Liked some new fiction, just not by the "usual suspects." Loved The Elegance of the Hedgehog. Anything by Amitav Ghosh and he has a new one coming out this month.
-
Jancie - I am reading the Confession right now - read the Help quite a while ago - it was in every book club in the south - haven't seen the movie but maybe when it comes on TV.
-
Sandy - I am about 50 pages from the end. Shhhhh....nobody tell us what happens.
-
These are older books but if you can find them they are excellent. The Eden series by Marylin Harris. Barbara Erskine is good too. She wrote a few books but the only two that come to mind now are "The Lady of Hay" and "Kingdom of Shadows".
Then there's always Anna Karenina by Tolstoy or War and Peace. heheheheheh!
-
Blue - I read Anna Karenina and War and Peace when I was 15 years old. I also used to read James Michener - love the long long books!
-
I just finished the book! The story was great and it is a good read.
