    Hi BinVa,

I have been gone for a while. I'm back at school now, and all I can say is it will be a very long year. I have no training in special ed, but half my class are ESE students. By the time I get home I am exhausted, and just don't have the energy to even get on the computer.

    Kira-

I work as a paraeducator(instructional assistant) in special ed and I don't know what it's like in your state, but our state has reduced funding for classroom help for special ed students. I'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed. The special ed teachers are feeling just as overwhelmed as the classroom teachers. More is expected of our students as far as testing and achievement, but there is no help to get them there.

For all you booklovers, there is a thread on book recommendations that KK started. It is in the Moving Beyond Cancer forum.

Thanks Cherryl.  I used to read a lot but since PD happened, I listen to books because I no longer have the attention span to actually read them.  My inability to read a book was the first clue 12 years ago that something was happening.  We have about 200 leather bound books, mostly Franklin Mint and Easton Press.  Mostly classics. When we bought this house, it was because it has a Library. Ray is an avid reader and sometimes reads to me.  I really miss it!

We went for a long ride in the country (it starts just around the corner)  after we cleaned but it's now time to think about dinner. ttyl!

Kira and Mary, it is so tough to work with special needs kids.  My eldest daughter worked at a camp this summer with special needs kids, and she would tell me how tough it is.  You need so much patience.  My heart breaks for the parents of these children, and I tip my hat to them and to all the educators out there who work with them.

Cheryl, thank you for reminding me of that thread!

blue, I went through a period of time when I just couldn't concentrate -- after the birth of my kids.  I hated it!  I love to read, and I read everyday, so not being able to read would be hellish for me.  (((HUGS)))

One of my SIL is coming over tonite.  We will be having some Indian food--YAY.  I love spicy Inidan food.

When we went to the Dominican a few years ago he read The Da Vinci Code to me.  That was great fun!  We also read the Celestine Prophecy.  Talk about draining someone of all their energies!  Some people should read that book!

On another note just gave LIlah a bath (she smells like a peach now) and Ray rearranged the furniture around in our Great Room.  I don't know if I like it.  Might post pics to get your opinions on before and after.

I loved The Da Vinci Code. I am such a visual processor, though, I don't know if I could have kept track of all the details if someone was reading it to me. I am a terrible person to spell words to, you know, like in front of a little kid. I always have to stop and visualize the letters in my mind. I guess that's why I really never got into books on tape or CD.

I know Mary, but it is fun because while we're reading, we discuss the plot, how well it's written, foreshadowing etc.

Looks like it's grilled cheese sandwiches tonight.  We're too tired to even consider anything else.

I'm with the Old Fashioned Folks" - I love "real" books. Some of the new trade paperbacks are well made, but the older ones are hard for me to read now.  Teeeeeny, weeeeny little print.  I remember the Celestine Prophecy - agree with you Blue.  Toxic people are not good for us.  Nor is the stress of it all. I didn't realize how "popluar" we writers were, how some golks must just pore over our words, and remember our screen names. ;)  My favorite new laughable, is when defending ourselves, and our friends is called "stirring things up."  Good thing we haven't gotten into politics!

You mean you don't want to know how many hair follicles Obama has on his head?

I still think we need more animated emoticons. Apparently, strong viewpoints cannot be expressed without them.

I want someone to read Perry's book so I don't have to.  Free drinks at the BCOB&G for a year to the person who does it. (No one from the dark side need apply) - as for those follicles, Blue, well, um, ah, not exaclty on the top of my list.  Thomas Friedman's new book is - hoping I find it at Costco think week.

    Mary - tee, hee.....

    Mary,

Things are the same here. I do have a 1 on 1 paraeducator for one of the kids. My dear principal seems to feel she can aid me with the other children as well. I really feel for you as well. It is so sad to see where our education system is these days.

Sunflowers, it'll take a lot more than a year of free drinks to get me to read it. I do love the falloout over Big Dick's book.

Kira-I just don't see how we can expect more and more from our kids(and by "our" kids, I mean the kids on IEPs) and give them less and less help. Then, if they don't achieve, the teachers are penalized by taking away even more resources.

The poor man is blocked, no matter what he tries.  It's the multi-nationals that have the US by the balls imo!  Wonder what party they cater too.  I hope he loses, not because I consider him a bad president, but because he has so visibly aged these past few years, I feel so bad for him.  I'd like to send him a few hugs!

From the Financial Times economist/columnist Martin Wohl:

"Mr Obama wishes to be president of a country that does not exist. In his fantasy US, politicians bury differences in bipartisan harmony. In fact, he faces an opposition that would prefer their country to fail than their president to succeed. Ms Merkel, similarly, seeks a non-existent middle way between the German desire for its partners to abide by its disciplines and their inability to do any such thing."

E, I'll pitch a teepee on the lawn, cuz I'm allergic to cats, and I figre a lot of the "gang" assembling with you, and me, will bring thier furry friends.

I was talking about Perry's book - I can't read Dick's book either - he probably still believes Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9/11.

Well you guys are all welcome anytime.  Maybe we should send the poor man some supplements.  Some say I spewed the "hate" word.  I learned from the masters!  They should revise the meaning of that word in the dictionaries.
