I know Sandy. Twenty hours.....I'd be brain dead!
-
I'm glad I wasn't putting my BCO B&G Grill wine glass to my lips just as I read a certain post - wine would have splattered all over my screen! lol.
Again, folks, this cat. 3 hurricane self-destructs.
BTW, welcome back, thenewme!!
-
Oh ladies...I do love popping in here now and then and eavesdropping...although, I guess it doesn't really count as that if I make my presence known now and then huh?
I wanted to offer up my thoughts, prayers, good vibes, and of course..a toast for any of you along the path of Irene. I do hope they are all talk and she is no action, but it doesn't seem like it's going to be that way on this one.
Please be safe, you and your loved ones. Property can be replaced, people can't!
(((Hugs)))
I'm off to pull a frosted mug and a Guinness out...after all, it is FRIDAY!!!
-
Yup RP...that's the one!
Nice seeing you here Navygirl!
-
Welcome, navygirl - that Guinness is courtesy of BCO B&G's fabulous bartender, whom I have never met and would love to.
-
LOL Athena...but of course! I didn't get to see her face, the drink just showed up in the fridge. Very thoughful, eh? BTW...several visits ago...I tried to wish you a happy birthday...but I was having pc issues and I don't think it ever posted...at least, I couldn't see it. So...Happy - by now belatedv - Birthday!
Blue...you too! I'm trying to catch the latest of the weather report. All I know is, I spent the whole glorious day on the golf course, and if it rains all weekend...well, at least I got MY game in!
I'm about to enjoy the sunset on the deck...keep comin' bartender, keep em' coming...
-
Thank you! It was a nice one.
-
I think I'll have a wee drink before dinner tonight - single malt with a splash of water - I'd have wine but I'd have to open a bottle and I MIGHT drink the whole thing.
-
That is pretty cute, rainbowpony.

Oh Ducky
I am so sad for you and all your treasures. I hope the storm will skip you or you will be able to salvage things.
Anybody who puts a rainbow hat on one of my cats will will be scratched and bit. .Cats have more beautiful fur coats than money can buy. Why would anybody do anything that would spoil their look or injure their dignity? Princess Bobba is not amused.
-
Ducky, I feel for you. How horrible to be watching the storm's progress and feeling so helpless. I hope that your house and its contents ride it out.
My SO has been away from NYC for two weeks for work, and got back (from Tampa - maybe he and Barbara A passed in the airport!) today . . . yep, just in time for the hurricane. He lives on the high ground so should be OK as far as flooding goes, but I worry what the wind might do to his building's rooftop garden and all the trees on his street. Crappity crap crap.
(I've been quiet this week because I was out of town, moving my daughter into her dorm. My baby is in college! And I'm thrilled to report that she is having the time of her life. Of course, classes haven't started yet.)

Lewing
What an exciting time for you and your daughter.

How do you spell obnoxious? After what was written on the review site about this thread, who would have EVEREVEREVEREVER thought we'd - Athena, gimme a word, HELP? by that - just amazing...really - no shame! So glad we have the IGNORE feature - much more effective than the ole tinfoil hats.
Navygirl - thanks for your kind words - we're in the "eye" in western MA - spent all day bringing in my houseplants who had been loving the summer sun, taking what teak garden furniture I could into timy basement. We're expecting 10 inches of rain - on top of very VERY soggy wet ground. Wind gusts up to 100 mph - I plan to be under the duvet with my LLbean Head lap reading light. And you KNOW it's gonna be a doozie, when the Electric Company makes a robo call to every home to tell us to get ready for no electricity for the "foreseeable future." turning into a wee bit of an adventure, actually! And we are INLAND!!!! It's the trees, old OLD trees in this part of NE, in soggy ground.
Well, I figured out a place to put my car ( no garage) where it might be safe.
Athen - you made me LAUGH!!!! I needed that one. thanks
Ducky - hope your treasures are safe....
-
((((Sunflowers))))
Hope everyone is safe! Will be thinking of you all.
-
Just remember it's Friday night and from past experience people who want to mess with us do it on Friday. The moderators work on weekends now doncha know.
We went to a restaurant in a nearby resort town, nothing fancy- a bar with food. I had spaghetti and meatballs and DH had chicken parmesan. And that was DINNER not CODE.
Apparently somebody has amnesia about the review site. There is not one of us here who was born yesterday.
-
Well they just updated the report......................as luck would have it it shifted and the storm has moved closer to the NJ coastline, ....................and now more surge in the Delaware Bay ...........wow...................wish I could remember where I hid the Vodka.
-
I hope everyone is safe right now, and that everyone is safe this weekend. I am thinking of you, my American friends.
(((HUGS))) to all of you.
-
rosemary - but not only the horrible things said about all of us on this thread, but the constant, constant attacking of BCO - not caring if women who use this website were being hurt, or if the comments were harming this organization - and then to PRETEND that this didn't happen. How could anyone think we'd be patzeeees for that kind of BS. With no sock puppets to "talk to" maybe the attacker is feeeelingblue, but it's just a matter of mindovermatter to let go of harassing people she tried so hard to get rid of.
Alas, the review site was caused so much trouble, the BCO site is stilll here and thriving - and we have the ignore button!!!!
Ducky - just heard a report the strom is a bit "weaker" than it was - wide, but weaker! Fingers crossed for your home.
-
Where is the like button!!
-
Right here - at the BCOB&G - drinks on the house for all those who have shown such WONDERFUL restraint - get in line after Blue
-
Weaker is better, in this case!
Let's come up with some suggestions for living without electricity. Lots of years ago (16, I think), Hurricane Opal slammed into the Gulf Coast and hung together enough to knock down 52 trees (BIG trees) on our 4-acre lot. Since we're 300 miles inland, that was pretty surprising; but we were on the "bad" side of the storm (the northeastern side, where the winds are strongest). Our power was out for 7 days, but we still had cable TV and land-line phone service. So, what do you need to make it that long in reasonable comfort?
1) Oil/kerosene lamps, flashlights, other light sources (candles are romantic, but they don't work so well for serious lighting); 2) a generator big enough to power your refrigerator and its itty-bitty freezer (and your well pump, if you have one); 3) a good battery-powered radio (AM/FM/weatherband); ... what else?
otter (sitting here in our travel trailer in near-darkness, except for the pleasant glow of my Macintosh laptop screen and the flashlight dh is using to find the ibuprofen)
[ETA: I'll have my usual: Kahlua + rum + rich vanilla ice cream. Hey, maybe add a battery-powered blender to that "emergency" list?]
-
I'll have a vodka tonic please.
-
Otter - you just reminded me - I've got oill lamps I haven't used in years! Also bottles of oil, someplace...thanks!!!!!!
Vodka tonic ready!!!!
-
No way is anyone posting that link. Forget it!
-
<sigh> We are talking about oil lamps and hurricane preparedness and our favorite adult beverages. No link is necessary, unless someone wants the official recommendations on surviving a hurricane or wants to know how to make the more complicated mixed dessert-drinks that contain yummy things like ice cream.
-
Thank you for the drink!
I always have batteries on hand as well as flashlights. I cook on a gas stove, so if we lose power, I can still cook.
I hope everyone in the eye of the storm is safe.
-
BCO B&G doesn't just serve drinks. It also has comedy shows on Firday nights, didn't you know. Farces and the like. :-)
I am watching the Blue Planet series - those penguins are too adorable for words.
-
Mary -- Did you experience the great ice storm in 1998? I'm thinking that losing power in the dead of winter is perhaps more difficult to live through, although both would be pretty awful. We have a gas BBQ and a cool (furnished) basement in the summertime, and a fireplace and lots of wood in case of winter power outages. BUT -- I must do some antiquing and try to find some oil lamps. Candles just don't cut it when you're trying to read! And maybe a deck of cards and a new Scrabble board might come in handy!
Found a new Kahlua -- mocha-flavoured! Awfully good poured over Death by Chocolate ice cream!
-
Sounds cozy Lindasa. I shouldn't even say trhis in case I jinx it, but I have never lost power in my apartment. Cards and scrabble by the oil lamp in winter is the sort of thing you may not necessarily enjoy that much when you are doing it but that you have fond memories of later on.
-
Farce - you call this FARCE..my dearest Athena, you are tooooooo, tooooooooo, tooooo kind. I'm glad Blue is busy with her family - and it's time for me to go to bed. Busy day tomorrow, hope those south of me are taking GOOD care of themselves - Enjoyful - how did the cake turn out???? Shall we help with the frosting???
That last one, really WAS "the frosting" on the cake...couldn't resist. Gee, wonder how these people are finding the thread, it's not being on the active list 'n all.
NITE ALL - sweet dreams....
