Awesome pics! I love seeing everyone's progress. I shaved off my facial hair at least 3 times and it continues to grow back. Ugh!!!
-
I've got the fuzzy wuzzy hair now, which is slowly growing above my ears. What's next?

bdavis, yes cancer the gift that just keeps giving! your lucky your facial hair is light, mine is so dark, oh well it could be so much worse. My hair doesn't seem to be getting any longer, it just keeps growing out. The back is afro style and the top and front is wavy and then the ends are straight. I really don't know what to do with it. I've always been really good with styling my hair, but this is something else. I'm trying to let it grow a little so i can flat iron it, but i don't have a lot f patience
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

I used Sally Hansen cream hair remover on the downy facial hair after chemo....came in twice in the first 4 months post chemo, then went back to normal...
-
I went today to have my hair trimmed and dicussed the facial hair with my stylist, and she said its lugana (sp)... the same as the baby hair that some newborns get... she said shave or wax and it will stop.

Hello my follicularly challenged friends! I am 7 weeks PFC and have almost got enough to color. I am thinking I will give it a shot sometime soon. I got a semipermanent color but have heard so many orange hair stories that I think I will just try permanent color when I get a little closer to vacation time. I discontinued the Brian Joseph's Gel to my eyelashes today and will do the same for my brows soon. I am anxious to see if they hang on. Also, started Tamoxifan yesterday so I hope that doesn't inhibit growth.
Dragonfly - Love the pic. If nothing else, humor helps us to get through all of this with a little grace.

Are you going to shave your face? That and cream on the face just sound scary. It won't come back like male stubble, will it? I was just hoping it would go away. Has anyone had that happen.
I am 14 weeks PFC. My old hair was blonde, very fine, and straight. The 1/4-1/2inch I have now is starting to curl and it looks like a Brillo pad. Strange. I have these sideburns that show with my wigs and I'm thinking I'm going to have to dye them to match. How do you handle those hairs that still stick out from under the wig? I'm having hair issues and I have to go back to work next week.
-
Jen, your hair looks great! You've got a fabulous smile, too!!!!
-
Looking good Jen!
-
Mammalou... I can't shave it... fearful of stubble, but I did use scissors and laid them across my skin and cut it... same as shaving I guess, but without rubbing against the skin... shaving seems like it might get all hair.. I just want the long hair.
-
I am 18 weeks PFC and last week while we were on vacation I went "topless" for the first time...I figured I wouldn't know anyone at the resort we stayed at, so it was a good time to experiment. My hair is barely about 1" long and DH colored it for me, which helped make it look thicker since the gray was hard to see. At first I was super-conscious of anyone looking my way, but after a couple of trips to public places it became obvious to me that I didn't look wierd enough anymore for anyone to do a double-take. In other words, I felt like I blended into the crowd, which was a plus. It was so much more comfortable than my wig, that now that I am back in town, I am still topless except for a few work-related events where I think it would generate unwanted conversation about my health. I feel like the end is finally in sight. DH actually likes my hair short and my son says I look very artistic.
-
You look great Jen! Are you going topless yet? (You could if you wanted to.)
You can still see bits of my scalp through the hair, but it's so freakin hot in NYC right now, I've basically given up on the wig. I had to wear it to an interview today and thought I was going to die. I don't know what looks worse...crazy lady crew cut or sweaty wig bangs plastered to my forehead.
Eyelashes and brows are coming back with a vengence! Eyelashes are super stubby, but at least look like they are totally filled in. I don't remember my brows taking up so much real estate. Want to get them shaped, but guess i should wait it they reach some sort of normal length,
No facial fuzz yet, but my one chin whisker has reappeared, so I guess things are getting back to normal!
-
Bikenyc - how many weeks PFC are you? I want eyelashes again so bad!
-
ugh. i am four months PFC and i noticed a few weeks ago that my eyelashes were thinning again. now i can tell that they are definitely thinning. *sigh* i know this is pretty common, but such a bummer! how long before they fill back in? and will i lose them all again?
-
Here's me- still waiting on hair to grow! I am going w/o wig all the time now though in public. 9 weeks and 2 days after last TC. Still on Herceptin.
-
Lisa you look so cute!
-
bdavis , I wouldn't shave it or wax it.... I still have some peach fuzz on my face but it gets less and less everyday... when I first started getting my hair back I could have shaved my legs 3 times a day that to has slowed down. I think you should hold out a bit longer before you start anything on your face. I am 6 months post chemo and my hair on my head is growing like crazy but all the other areas have slowed way down. Good luck.
-
LisaGH - I just looked at your pic - OMG you have so much hair! You and dragonfly both have about the same - your triplet is not faring as well. You can still see my whole scalp! I'm sad
-
SpecialK, Don't be sad. I'm right there with you and I've been done a week longer =:0( Maybe it's because we are more fair......
-
Lisa, you look wonderful!
I've had my "salt and pepper" hair since my early 40's, and always wore it long. It was pretty much all white when chemo started. Now it's coming in all white, chemo-burned, and I can see scalp thru it. For the first time in my life, I'm contemplating color, just so it's not so ancient old man looking. -
jackifp - Yes! I too have the ancient old man look! I don't like it! I haven't seen my natural color in many moons, and apparently it is mostly gray. Once I actually get something to color, you bet that is what I am doing!
-
Hi all. This is my first post but I have been reading the forums since Sept. 2010. My pic shows my hair at 5 months PFC. I took off the wig at 4 months PFC. My hair was straight prior to chemo. I now look like a poodle..LOL (but at least it is hair). I have been using Pantene Curly Mousse to embrace my curls.
-
I just wanted to say that I finally have eyebrows and lashes back in full force..and had been trying various mascaras to use on my 3 or 4 lashes I had including those ones that are thin and curled backwards and found a mascara that I really liked..it's by Rimmel and called maxi..it's in a pink tube and it uses a flat comb instead of a round brush..made it easier to comb through my lashes without clumps..so just thought id share if anyone was like me going down the cosmetic isles looking for products

Hi ladies I think I ned a haircut .... but I don't know what to tell them to do . I have some curl and my top is getting very puffy and it is growing over my ears but it is all the hair that 1st came out so it looks dead... do you have the razor it or use the thinning shears.... HELP!!!!
-
Hi Tracie....I've had two "haircuts" if you even want to call them that. I basically just have them trim off the ends and clean up around my neckline and ears. My first cut was to trim off all that dead looking stuff and it made a huge difference for sure. My stylist doesn't want to use the thinning shears yet - I am developing curls and it is getting really thick on top.
KY-Vickie - your hair looks awesome! I am at about the 5-6 mth PFC mark too but I think the herceptin is slowing down my hair growth quite a bit. Lisa & Jenn...looking good as well! I'm amazed how good everyone looks with our short hair (even though most of us don't like it much!).
-
It's been 1 year since last chemo (TCx4) and I now have a nice head of jaw length hair with some curl. At the front, for an inch or two back from the hairline, the amount of hair is much thinner/sparser and you can see my head and scalp quite clearly if pull my hair back. Anyone have this situation and did the hair eventually grow and fill in back to normal?
-
I have been told that it can take 18mths or more for your hair to fully recover from chemo. Often your old texture will come back.

Thanks Marj
