Linda, I'll bring a quinoa salad. very healthy and tastes good too
-
Thanks hrf! I just purchased a cookbook "Quinoa-365" with dozens of recipes for that ultra-healthy grain. Remind me to show it to you.
So far, we've got a quinoa salad, a spinach/orange/almond salad, a 7-grain salad, an undetermined salad, a mayonnaise-free potato salad and black olive focaccia bread.
-
Where's the carbs?
-
In the cake, silly! Oh yes, and in the potato salad and the focaccia. Don't worry, Bren, you won't be deprived of your carbs!
-
Love you Linda!!!
-
I'm not good at making food and trying to transport it long distances. So I will bring semihealthy snacks.
-
I think quinoa is a carb but it's so full of protein and healthy stuff that the carbs don't count. Only 2 weeks more until we are in NOTL
-
I will likely make homemade hummus and bring pita chips (...more carbs!) and some veggies to dip.
-
Linda can you PM me the location?
Hotel is booked...I was a bit slow and missed out on my first few choices, but we have a room with a view of the falls....the lunch will be our last stop.
Barbe let me know if we are sending the hubbies on a playdate!
This is really our vacation for the year so I am double excited to meet all you!
-
To our American sisters - if you have never been to Niagara on the Lake or you don't know anything about it, you will be delighted. It's a scenic little town that has retained it's historic character so it's lovely to go for a walk to see everything. It also has wonderful theatre and is the site for the annual Shaw festival. It was the original capital of what was then called Lower Canada so it's very historic. And it's in the middle of wine country. I hope I got my facts right. Linda, if I made any mistakes please correct me
-
Cookie, I'm coming in with hrf no matter what. My DH doens't really want to go to NOTL but offered if I wasn't going with hrf. So he's not coming as hrf and I have confirmed our trip!
-
Cookie -- I'm just pm'd you with directions, as you're coming from N'Falls.
Still waiting for a few more email addresses so that I can send out a group email with directions.
hrf -- your description was right on! NOTL and environs was the site of critical War of 1812 battles, and our American pals cross the river do a re-enactment with our Cdn (formerly British) soldiers every year in July. Next year is the 200th anniversary, so there will be a big run on gun powder! (Personally, I think war is nothing to celebrate, but that's just me!).
So, before they finally left the area with their tails between their legs, the American soldiers exacted revenge by burning down the town, thus no building is older than 1813, but there are several still standing that do go back that far.
Anyhow, the weekend of August 13-14 is the Annual Peach Festival, so Queen St., will be closed to vehicular traffic (from King to Gate St.) and it will host a big street party.
-
The Peach Festival sounds like fun. Hope we can visit that as well as the falls. Can't wait to meet everyone. I'm really looking forward to this trip!
Linda .. have you heard from Barbara? We will need directions on how to get there from the hotel. Guess we can use a GPS to get from Buffalo to the hotel. I'm so happy I'm not driving ... I always get lost.
Bren
-
I still have the second bedroom available in my suite at the residence if anyone wants a room Sunday night.
-
Lassie .. who is Rosemary rooming with? I know she comes in on Saturday too.
Bren
-
Bren, Rosemary is rooming with me -- Saturday and Sunday night.
(Linda -- sent you a PM with my email addy)
-
Bren, I PM'd Linda my email.
-
Directions to come later this week. I just have to sort through who is coming from where, so that I don't confuse anyone!
-
Yay Barbara! I knew you were on top of things!
hugs,
Bren
-
I will bring a desert that is NOT healthy...but IS very good!!!!! Not an occasion to count calories.....
-
Most certainly NOT, Barbe! Looking forward to see all of you again!
Any word from Yan?
-
Barb beat me too the dessert but I will also bring a dessert maybe a fruit tray? Looking forward to meeting you all!
-
Rachel, a fruit tray would be splendid. Thank you!
-
Linda, is a high calorie desert okay?
-
Barbe -- We are having a super-special high-calorie chocolate cake in honour of Konakat from NOTL's best bakery, sooooo, that's why I suggested something fruity for those who either don't like chocolate (oh my goodness, that's so sad!) or those who are on low-cal diets. Could you maybe make (or buy) a salad instead?
-
I'll let you know tomorrow whether I come or not. Not sure about what food... What do you like me to bring?
-
Barbe .. I'm with you .. I love my carbs! I can't wait to try all the salads, and hearing the menu just makes me so hungry.
Yan .. I sure hope you can make it!
hugs everyone,
Bren

Linda
I just PMed you with my email address
-
