Just got online - can NOT BELIEVE the moderators are doing that - if they go after your other thread I consider it a ACT OF WAR!
revkat - LOVED, LOVED your post. Thank you. A group forming recently in the US of A ( will mention no names, so don't get banned, it's gotten that bad) are twisting the "Boston Tea Party" into a 'no tax' act - it was a revolt against Taxation without representation!!!! GRRrrrr.... not against taxes which are neceaary for the General Welfare of ALL - more growls....oh, darn, I'll get reported & banned..well, it's worth it! If that"party" in the USA of A is now sp supportive of the Boston Tea Party, then maybe we'll see more fighting for Federal Status for the District of Columbia - speaking of "taxation without representation" - they pay full Federal Tax, and have no representation in House or Senate....
-
I've been there, summertyme! :-)
I woke up with NO PAIN today. I'm going to just sit here, unmoving, and enjoy the pain-freeness. Hope everyone had a great Fourth!
-
BinVa
Wonderland - or Saccharineville ?
-
E - hurrah for no pain!
-
Caerus - I've never understood the state of D.C. taxation. There must be a reason why they're taxed without representation - perhaps because they're not technically a state - but why can't that be remedied? Makes no sense to me. And oh my gosh - do not pick on Canada's Wonderland. All things Canada are wonderful and will bear no criticism! :-P
Athena - Thank you! It's a miracle!
-
E
Hurray for no pain.
And to end my tribute to JohnPhilip Sousa
Oh you may think that this is the end, well it is...
-
Enjoyful
when the Distric of Columbia was "created" it was done by taking a small "piece" of MD, VA, and specifially was to be, well, "neutral" as the seat of the Federal Government. This is my hazy history. I think it was 1800, or about then? And, won't get into the "reasons" for what's happened - but it's very interesting. Don't want to get too political on this thread ;-) or we'll get "incoming."
-
Republicans do not want to give DC a seat in the House with full voting rights because DC is so heavily democratic. Their legal argument is that DC is not a state and only states can have representation in Congress. Technically true, but I seriously doubt that the Framers of the Constitution ever intended for 500,000 citizens to be disenfranchised from congress. The latest tactic by the GOP was to attempt to slam through a pro-gun law in this high-crime city. If I were a city leader, I would have called that bluff, taken the bazookas and AK-47s that the pro-gun lobby was trying to ram down our throats (:-) ) and grabbed my right to vote.
-
If we get incoming we will all have to DUCK.
Sorry, but I love my Daffy.
-
Athena,
YES. You are brave to go into detail. Thanks, Daffy, "ducking."
-
E - I took you bait and ran with it.

Free speech still reigns, I say (incoming and all - and the right to say either "incoming!" or "lobotomy, I say!" or DUCK!").
-
No bait here. It was a hanging curve ball and you knocked it out of the park!
*quack*
-
Enjoyful, so happy to wake up to hearing you're having a pain-free day. I know how special those days are.
I didn't get to read the thread that was removed, but I agree with you Athena....the trouble is, some people really do believe they are experts; that's the problem.
-
Iz good!
-
E ... so happy you are pain-free this a.m. Yay! Enjoy your day!
I think DC should have some kind of representation. They have a mayor, but it's not really a city .. more of a city/state. Maybe the govt should give DC to either Maryland or Virginia. Just some random thoughts.
I'm very busy with work today ... yikes! I'm so glad as work was slow the last week or two.
Bren
-
Bite your tongue! I don't want DC!
-
I refuse to be ruled by Virginia and its power hungry attorney general Cuccinelli.
-
DC will take YOU - we can grab bits of northern VA and Bethesda and Potomac in MD and become a really, really democratic state.
-
Sounds good Athena .. but I'm so far south in VA, it wouldn't affect me .. I'd still be stuck with Cuccinelli!
Bren
-
My condolences to you, Bren!
-
There's nothing more American than a good old-fashioned land grab!
-
E Glad you are feeling good today!
I don't think MD and VA would ever agree on who gets DC...it took them forever just to decide who pays what for the damn Woodrow Wilson Bridge repairs. The only part of DC I would want to belong to MD is Georgetown....especially the new shops!.We can do without the rest...I don't think the SE area has people that vote.
-
We Georgetowners would never stand for that. Better to go back to being our own city. Lumping us with MD would suburbanize us - I much prefer being part of a city and staying urban.
-
Speaking of land (and vast tracts of it!) The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (Will and Kate) are in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories today. They're meeting members of the Dene nation, with whom his great-great-great Grandmama Queen Victoria signed a land treaty -- one of the few (of the very many) treaties signed with the native populations of North America which was never broken.
-
Well thank goodness somebody kept their part of the bargain. Humans sure do have some shameful deeds in their past.
Pain-freeness has disappeared. Ah well, at least I got a few hours. :-)
-
Ahhh I think I was the bait's bait if I read correctly? No matter. Happy to oblige, actually. I remain in blissful ignorance but with a keen imagination. Damned sorry about your pain, E - Arimidex, I assume?
-
Arimidex, also known as A$&!!@*x.
-
E .. I'm so sorry Arimidex is so hard on you. I know you have to take it .. and that's hard to deal with. Have you tried any of the other AI's .. don't know if they might be a little easier on you.
Hugs buddy,
Bren
