Another summer lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake?

I'm in Mississauga so can def car pool or drive and pick up along the way!
-
Hey Pip, get with the programme, honey! The date has been picked -- August 14. It's also the weekend of the annual Peach Festival in town. If spouses want to come, they can mosey on up to the main street and spend time there while we're enjoying ourselves here!
For all who haven't been here before, please pm me your email addresses and I'll send out a group email re directions.
Just to add: it's potluck this year, although I'll take care of the drinks and the protein (cold meats etc.) and our American sisters will look after dessert (chocolate cake, of COURSE! -- in Konakat's memory) and everyone else can bring their favourite salads, appetizers etc.
Does that sound alright for everyone?
-
Sorry.
I just flipped through quickly. I am up to date now! I will put in for that day at work and keep my fingers crossed.
-
Geez. Did I miss the time somewhere?
-
Would love to come. But need a ride. I live in east end of Toronto.... anyone who can help?
-
Sounds good, Barbe1958. There is nothing like a summer party! PJ
-
I'll pick you up, Dream. In case I come, of course...
-
Closer to the day I will know my plans and would be happy to be back up to pick up Dream. We will get you there one way or another!

For those who have been wondering, I've been chatting on-line with Alexis, who is Frankies sister. Frankie has necrosis built up from the brain work she had done last year. She tried to go back to work but began having seizures. I will post a bit of what Alexis says (I got permission from Alexis), there is so much more, but this is the pertinent part:
She cannot move about the same physically as her motor cortex was effective with the tumor prior to the surg...and she is being taper off the med's steriods and so she is having withdrawals from it and is not coping well
...she developed dietietics and has high sugars, and she was told that they will not do brain surg again and that the tumor is still aggressive etc and so forth....so what does that tell you....
I am sure its not good, she was told that news Monday this week, and my mother told me, she has been in bed since then and I haven't spoken with her....I seen her x2 in the past couple weeks, spend a whole weekend to see her immediately before the surg, and the day of the surg....I haven't had a chance to see her since, which has been 1.5 weeks now....
I think a collective prayer would be nice. If you recall, last year she had just been diagnosed with her brain mets and was on steroids and had to have someone drive her to Linda's house. I asked her sister to tell her we're doing this again, but from the looks of it, I don't think Frankie is in a partying mood....
-
Oh Barbe, that is NOT good news. I've been thinking alot about Frankie lately, and I'm so glad you've been able to connect with her sister. Darn, darn, darn.....
Thanks so much for letting us know. Please send her (via Alexis) my love and good wishes.
-
Barbe - thanks for posting. I, too, have been wondering about Frankie a lot lately...especially since this thread for another NOTL luncheon started. I was so hoping to see her again this year. Not good news
-
Oh, I too am sorry to hear about Frankie. It just sucks!!
-
dammit!
-
She had visited my office in Newmarket once and I have been trying to get her to come again but she had not responded to any of my PM's or FB messages, so I found her sister on FB and that's the result.
I will keep you posted as I find out more, but I did ask Alexis to let Francis know that we were having another lunch at the very same spot, so maybe she'll come. She sounds pretty depressed though, my heart is just breaking... a newlywed who wanted children...who's career was helping children!! She gave so much and asked for so little back, something the rest of us took for granted. CRAP!!!!
-
She even brought her honeymoon pictures to show us at Linda's place last year. She had me try and try with Charmaines camera to get a good head shot of herself that she liked! I thought all the ones I took were pretty, but you know we are our own worst enemies....
She had just started the steroids and was so jittery. She kept showing me the bottle in disbelief...
-
Crap, I'm so sorry to hear that Frankie's not doing well. She and I were diagnosed at almost the same time, both multi-focal, and we did chemo "together." I love reading her posts. Thanks for checking up on her Barbe.
-
I've also been wondering about Frankie and so sorry to read this news
-
I may be passing through Toronto Aug 13/14, so if I am count me in too! Gotta have some left coast representation lol.
-
She, woohoo! Would love to meet you!
-
I am excited to hear that some of our American friends will be there. Yeah!!!
-
Hi Canadian Friends,
I got my passport paperwork sent in today! yay! Hopefully it will be back in time. I did a Mapquest and it's a 10-hour drive from here to Buffalo. I can easily do that.
How far from Buffalo?
hugs,
Bren
EDITED: Okay .. I found it on a map!
-
I have a free pass on Southwest and they fly to Buffalo. I could rent a car and drive. Bren, we could split a hotel room, if you'd like.
-
Barbara .. Wish I could fly Southwest too ... but they don't fly out of Greensboro.
I think it's a great idea!! I'm up for it!!
hugs,
Bren
-
Linda I hope you have room for one more!
Edited to add, Bren, they fly from Raleigh!! I could fly there then we could fly together.
-
Barbara A:
Thrilled you're thinking of coming up - I am PM' ing you.
Sandy
-
Barbara .. Raleigh is about a 2.5 hour drive for me. It's quicker to just shoot up the highway. I'm used to long drives and have no problem with it. I think there may be a couple more coming up to Buffalo, so I'll see about coordinating us all together! Enjoyful had mentioned something about renting a cottage. I'll check with her. I'll also check fares out of Greensboro .. might be doable.
hugs,
Bren
-
This is getting very exciting! I can't wait to meet you all!!
-
my thoughts precisely Pip!
-
I'm hoping to make it too, depending on surgery schedule.
-
I'm so excited!!!
