Another summer lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake?

And just so you know, I have been whining to DH about potentially not being able to come because of the surgery and reminding him that he had mentioned driving me (it is 8 hours from here to there). I am hopeful that I will be able to come -- somehow. Still no word on surgery scheduling -- I will let you know as soon as I do. I will be very, very upset if I have to miss this!

(((HAPPYLIBBY))) I so hope you can make it!
-
Libby, if it's YOUR surgery you're working around, it would be very healing for you to be there among us. Frankie got driven to Linda's last year just after she found out she had brain mets and it was so good for her to be able to talk about it and be among people who 'get it'.
Pip, didn't your DH hang around NOTL??
-
Yep, Barbe ... I am working that angle, too. It is my surgery -- dx with a recurrence and heading for BMX with DIEP if all works out. PS said sometime in the next couple weeks because they want to get moving (it is DCIS, but they still don't like it in there). I have already started laying the groundwork for being depressed if I can't come!
-
You lay a good groundwork sister!! It should be worth at LEAST a new TV in the bedroom!!!
-
Barbe, we've already downsized, and I'm not moving! We'll squeeze everyone in somehow -- the more the merrier!
I'm going to start a roll call thread soon -- watch for it!
-
WHOO HOO!!! Still no surgery date, but DH just told me to make hotel reservations just in case. I'll have to have the drains out before I come, so they'd better hustle up and schedule (or drag their feet and schedule after). I'm almost locked out of cheap airfares, so they'd better make up their minds. BUT ... if at all possible, I will be there along with DH!

Yes, my dh went to the car show that was on when we were there. We talked about booking a room again this year but I think we will just make it a day trip now. He will probably spend time at a couple of the wineries. Are there any other dh's that would want to do that together?
-
Oh don't worry about the drains HL - lots of us have had them and know how to help with them!
-
OOH, yes! Another good point! I'm going to reserve at the same place as everyone else, just in case!
-
Pip -- Just want to remind you that the Peach Festival is that weekend, so there will be lots going on -- Queen St (main drag) will be closed. There will be lots of music, entertainment, food etc.
-
Yay! Just booked our rooms at the Residential Centre where everyone is staying. Haven't made flight reso's yet .. need to check times of arrival first.
I'm so excited .. I just wish my passport card would hurry up and get here!
Blue ... I checked, pets are welcome so we'll be seeing Lilah and Virgil too!
Bren
EDITED: For anyone interested in staying there, I just read there are only five rooms left.
-
Hey, Bren -- which airport are you transiting in DC?
-
Bren -- just booked my room, too, for Saturday and Sunday nights. If anyone wants to be my roomie, PM me!
-
Happy .. I change planes in Philadelphia going out of Greensboro on Sat. (arrive at 1:15 p.m. in Buffalo) and LaGuardia coming back on Monday. Barbara has already rented a car for us ... so we have room for you if you decide to fly instead of drive with DH. Has Enjoyful made her reso's yet?
Ann .. so glad you got your rooms booked in the nick of time. We need to convince Athena to jump on a southwest flight and join us!!

I'm looking at flights -- I do have a car reserved in Buffalo, but will probably have to give it up because I don't think I'll be able to drive yet. DH worries about the toll of an 8-hour car ride ... but then again, if I still have drains, will I even be able to fly? GAH! I just wish the damn surgeons would call me and tell me!
-
OK, I just booked the hotel since we can cancel without penalty up to 8/11. I have a car reserved just in case ... and Southwest still has good fares. If I can get a surgery schedule, I'll be good to go!
-
Happy ... I imagine the drains might show up on the scanner going through the airport. Don't worry about driving cause Barb booked a car. Don't know what kind, but I'm sure we can make you comfortable. Barbara's flight arrives in Buffalo about 11:30 a.m., so she'll have to wait a bit for me to arrive.
I wish your surgeon would hurry up and call you so you could make plans. Is it possible to call him and suggest when would be the best time for you?
hugs,
Bren
-
I don't really care about the scanner ... it's more the pressurization of the cabin since the drains have to be under vacuum to collect the fluid (urgh ... I hate the way that sounds!)
-
Hmmmm, the semi-vacuum in a JP drain is created by folding the bulb in half to squeeze most of the air out before you re-cap it each time you empty it. So... I don't know how much (if at all) the pressurization of the cabin would affect the pressure within the drain bulb... I did get a "B" in physics, but it was really hard for me to accomplish that and it was years ago! I think we need Dr. Otter for this question!
-
I got a mid size car so plenty of room for bodies and luggage. Bren, I will grab lunch @the airport. Maybe I will go get the car and park it and eat.
-
Hey Barbara! did you read my mind?! I was just about to ask you and Bren if I could hitch a ride with you! Not sure yet when I'm getting in, but maybe I can treat you to lunch! Thanks in advance, and can't wait!
-
Ann .. will you fly or take the train?
-
Bren -- trying to finalize that part of the plan!
-
Just saw all of you on the Active Thread...ooohhh...wish it wasn't so far from western MA. Please drink a toast to KK for me. I can still, with my mind's eye, see her with the pink wig on the back of the motorcycle.
Hope you all have a wonderful time, get silly, takes LOTS OF PICTURES, an get super sunny days.
-
OK Girls I just booked where Bren did. I'm committed!
-
I'm sooo envious of you ladies! Wish I could join you all - sounds like fabulous company, wonderful food, and awesome location. Is BCOB&G catering?
Please enjoy a piece of chocolate cake for me too, in honor (honour!) of Elizabeth! She'll definitely be smiling with you all there!
Have fun!!!
-
Ann, I can always get an SUV if more folks need a ride. See if you can get to Buffalo between 10-2.
-
Barbara, there are all kinds of discounts for rental cars. You probably know them, but AAA and AARP have discount codes. I am a member of USAA, and got a good deal on an Impala from Hertz, although I'm pretty sure I'll have to cancel if I've had surgery already! Other affiliations also have discount codes for their members as well ... might as well get something out of paying those dues!
-
I am a frequent renter and am using points.
