So...whats for dinner?

Joyce - for ice cream, I highly recommend Doc Davis...I mean, after all, if you have a prescription someone should definitely take you to the doctor! It's in Pepperell: http://www.drdavisicecream.com/
Or you could come to the Flying Cow in Hampstead - there's is good, too. You're probably closer to Haywards, though. But if you want to go for a nice ride...
I had a little nausea late yesterday afternoon but I recovered enough to eat a light dinner. DH grilled some chicken breasts that I had marinated, and we had some red bell peppers and mushrooms. He really wanted to go for ice cream afterwards, but I didn't want to get in the car and temp fate with my tummy. And we have some sugar-free chocolate in the freezer. So we had that, instead.
Sherrill - I will try one time without the Emla. If I find the stick to be the least bit uncomfortable, I will get it. I'm guessing I could also use it to numb the area on my arm for the Neulasta shot.
Debbie - are you on a large lake? Walking with your granddaughter sounds delightful!
Have a wonderful day, everyone!
Michelle
-
joyce- Glad the pre op went well and I hope you get B9 results after the removal next Thursday. I'll be thinking of you.
Michelle- I hope the nausea stays away! It sounds like your husband is doing a great job taking care of you. Remember to rest between all your unpacking and organizing. It must be so hard dealing with the move and starting chemo. I hope today is a good day and that you feel well.
Debbie- Your walk with your granddaughter made me smile, it's a lovely vision. Your chicken carbonara sounds interesting, how does that work with the eggs?
Sherrill-Do your kids take a break in sports for the summer at all? You do sound super busy! Mine are still so young that we are always busy- but at home.
Things have been quiet here. My husband has been working a lot the past week and a half and will be busy through this coming Wednesday. Last night and tonight it is just me and the boys. Last night I made home made mac n cheese. Tonight we'll probably have the leftovers of that and maybe cheeseburgers I'm thinking. I hope everyone enjoys the day!
-
Michelle- I've caught up on some of your blog and saved it to my bookmarks. You've done a great job with it and I love the pictures, the one of you and your daughter in front of the water is great!!
-
debbie6122,
Pochettes sound delicious. My Grandmother used to make half moon filled cookies. Maybe they were pochettes. Thank You.
-
Thanks, Laurie. My body seems to be giving me cues to sit down for a few minutes. So I am paying attention!
-
My daughter finished school today! And she got an award for being on the honor roll all year. Yay! She is getting rewarded with a sleep over with 2 of her friends tonight. 3 13 y.o.'s. Yikes. They are great, nice kids, but they are so giggley and like to stay up so late. What can I feed them that will put them to sleep? LOL
-
Ha, ha, something with turkey--don't they say it has triptophan ( sp). So, get a sub with turkey or a pizza with turkey sausage. Have fun--kids grow up too fast!
-
Kay- Congrats to your daughter and you. I love that she is having a sleepover. That was always a big treat for me when I was young- same thing I could invite 2 or 3 friends and we would be up allllll night. My Mom always did chocolate fondue for us with banana's and strawberries. But, I don't remember THAT helping us go to sleep early, lol!
-
Michelle- I am glad you are listening to your body and not pushing things. Take care of yourself.
-
We just got back from a nice restaurant meal. I can't believe that I was "up" for that, but I must say I feel pretty good tonight. I had lamb chops, salad and a few sweet potato fries. They were really good, but I knew better than to eat too many. I did pass on a glass of wine, though. I didn't want to tempt fate too much!
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Hi ladies!
Kay, I am so not ready to have sleep overs! The idea of it makes me shiver. My kids are a little younger (9 & 7), so I can put it off a little longer! Good luck tonight!
Today was the last day of school for my kids so they are happy and relaxed tonight (actually they are both sleeping). Laurie, yes, my kids love sports, so we pretty much have something all the time. The summer is definitely less busy, but they both stay involved. I'm glad they like all sports but sooner or later they will have to choose what they REALLY like because overscheduled isn't good for me or them!
Debbie those pouchettes sound delicious! I'll have to try them sometime:)
tonight for dinner I breaded small pieces of chicken with italian bread crumbs, sauted in olive oil, mixed in a pan with sliced mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, then added a little Italian dressing, fresh grated parm cheese and fresh parsley. Baked at 350 for about 25 min just to heat through.
Tomorrow we are having some friends over so I'm making corn and black bean salsa, burgers and hotdogs, grilled veggies (red pepper, red onion, squash and asparagus), orzo salad (w/feta, black olives, chick peas, grape tomatoes, olive oil, red wine vinegar and fresh parsley) and probably a fruit
salad.
Have a good night! -
The thought used to make me shiver too, but I enjoy them now. My DD has really nice friends so it is a pleasure to have them over. And it keeps her busy and occupied, so in a way it is easier than if she were home alone and bored.
That sounds good for tomorrow. Can I come?
-
Sure! I see you're in Philly. I'm in NJ (Monmouth County), so you aren't too far
-
Michelle-Sorry you are having tummy issues, does your head feel foggy? I know mine did and it was hard to deal with sometimes, I hope your SE are minimal. I live on the oregon coast about 2 hours from portland I live about 3 minutes driving time from the pacific ocean.
Laurie- You dont even know the eggs are in the pasta you beat them with a fork before adding them and it makes it creamy almost like a alfredo sauce but better!
Kay- What fun with the kids, I always gave my daughter warm milk it helped.
Sherrill- Your chicken sounds really good and everything in yours i love i will try that next week, I have so much left overs in my fridge I have to play catch-up
Teka- could be the same did they taste almost like a shortbread cookie? These really are amazing
-
debbie 6122,
I found my Grandmother's recipe for filled cookies.
Dough:
1 egg
1 half cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 half cup sweet milk (Sweet milk refers to whole milk)
3 cups of flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Filling:
half cup sugar
1 cup chopped raisins
1 tablespoon flour
half cup of water
Cook until thick.
I still want to try some of your pochettes.
-
Teka - That looks much like my Grandma's receipe but she used dates for the filling, yum. I added a couple tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, even better.
-
chabba,
I think my Grandmother sometimes added a little orange rind, and also used homemade mincemeat for the filling.
-
The mincemeat would be good.
-
An old staple - spaghetti and meatballls, spinach saled and garlic bread. Everyone liked it
-
Kay- Yummmmm!
-
teca- Yum your grandmothers cookies sound so good too, I will have to try them, thanks!
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend
Michelle- Thinking about you hope you are doing ok!
-
Good morning everyone! Incredibly, I was able to go to a Red Sox game last night, so that tells you how I'm feeling overall. The appetite is sketchy so I was able to tolerate just about 1/2 of a street vendor sausage sandwich. We were hungry and the choices were limited. I munched on popcorn during the game, and that tasted good. I also tried some pistachios (surprised that they sell those along-side the peanuts) but they seemed extremely salty and it just didn't work for me.
I made Kona coffee this morning but I couldn't drink it
I don't know yet if it's coffee in general or just the strong Kona, I'll have to try my DunkinDonuts beans tomorrow and see how that goes. I ended up making some iced tea and that may have to be my source of caffeine. Even my favorite Diet Coke doesn't taste right. I whipped up breakfast for DH, who is now in the middle of assembling our new gas grill. That will keep him busy for a while...lol.
I'm heading out to the grocery store in a little while to stock up for today's cookout. We are going to put a boneless pork loin on the grill, along with foil-wrapped potatoes and onions. And we'll have corn on the cob, tossed salad and waldorf salad. My youngest daughter is bringing her dad's favorite - pineapple upside down cake.
I'm shocked that I am feeling fairly normal so far. I have noticed a little shortness of breath and the funky taste; but otherwise, I seem to be doing OK.
I hope everyone has a delightful day!
Michelle

LuvRVing,
I used to love breakfast, but like this morning feel so nauseated from coffee and greasy bacon and eggs. I finised AC+T chemo with Avastin in August 2010, and completed Avastin in March 2011. I used to look forward to breakfast on the weekend.
-
Michelle- Glad you are feeling good, wonder why some woman dont have to awful SE and some do? Just like with bone pain on the shots its was horrible for me yet, some woman didnt have issues at all. but hope they stay like that so you can at least function and get out of the house. My favorite foods tasted bad during chemo and I was a pepsiholic and didnt care for that either. Have fun today with hubby on his fathersday!
I made a huge breakfast for DH today, used to make the krustez pancake/waffle mix but it was stale since I hadnt made them in forever, so whipped up a batch from scratch and they were delish! made hashbrowns, and bacon, topped the pancakes with fresh raspberries i folded into some whipped cream. Made my DH's favorite chicken and dumplings for dinner, cooking on the stove now, and made his fav coconut cream pie.
Pancakes~
1 1/2 cups of flour or cake flour if you have it
3 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
1/2 teaspoon of salt or less
1 1/2 tablespoons of sugar
1 1/4 cup of milk
1 egg
3 tablespoons of melted butter (unsalted)
1 1/2 tablespoons of vanilla
In large bowl sift together, the dry ingredients, (twice) (makes them fluffier) mix milk, egg, melted butter and vanilla together, slowly pour in center of dry mix, mix untill smooth but (dont over mix) pour on slightly greased griddle.
-
debbie6122,
I would love a piece of coconut cream pie. OK, 2 pieces!
-
My daughter made "Lasagna cupcakes" this weekend. She used wonton wrappers, ricotta cheese, mozzarella, parmesan, and marinara sauce. You layer the wrapper first, then sauce, ricotta, and a little mozzarella and parmesan into a greased muffin pan. Then repeat and top with a layer of mozzerella. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes. I can try and link the recipe if anyone would like, but they were really easy and good!
-
sounds good.
-
Teka- LOL! Ok i will save you 2 pieces LOL!
Lynm- That sounds really good, I would like the link, is it from giada on foodtv i thought i saw somthing on her site like that but would like yours.
-
Lynn - I'd appreciate the link, too. It sounds like a nice low carb version of lasagna. And I could probably freeze them, so that would be great!
Debbie - I guess I am just lucky this first round! I did drink about a gallon a day of whatever liquid I could tolerate, maybe that helped. Good news - I was able to drink a cup of DunkinDonuts coffee this morning! That's a good thing because I woke up around 5:00 a.m. with a caffeine-withdrawal headache.
We had a really good day yesterday. The weather was perfect, and all four of my kids and families were here. The food was all good, the grandkids had a ball, and we spent the entire afternoon and evening out on the patio and/or in the water. And then they left, and I was exhausted...lol. You know, no matter how hard I try to let everyone else do the work, the reality is that having the family over for dinner is going to be tiring for me. It's a "happy kind of tired" so it's all good. This is why we moved back to NH and I will enjoy every minute of it.
Michelle
-
Michelle- it sounds like you had a perfect day on your lake! The weather was beautiful. I am so glad you are getting to enjoy your family and have some fun. Just remember to let them do most of the work
Tonight we are doing fajitas again, everyone loved it last time so why not?
