So...whats for dinner?

Sherrill- That is horrible! Your poor daughter, and poor you. Stomach bugs are the worst, I hope she is still doing better and that no one else gets it. I hope you all have a restful evening/night.
-
Thanks, Laurie! My son already had it over the weekend, but she seemed to have it worse. I pray my husband or I don't get it...even though I am neurotic about washing my hands, and lysol and cleaning everything. But when you are the one to be right beside them every time they get sick, it sometimes is hard to avoid
I'd love to go to bed around 8:00 tonight!
-
Sherrill - I so remember those days and nights of puking children. That's one part of child-rearing I really don't miss!
The port is not too bad considering I have an access needle in it until tomorrow. I thought the chemo nurse (at Dana Farber) was going to have a heart attack when she learned I would have it there for 48 hours without flushing. I think they are ultra-cautious. I have noticed that I don't want to hang my purse off that shoulder, and the seatbelt was a nuisance. I have those little pillows, too, to hold the seatbelt away from the body. And I had my chemo training - scary stuff.
I'm making chicken soup so I have my "go to" meal for when I'm not feeling well. We bought a grocery store rotisserrie chicken a couple of days ago, and there was a lot left over, so it's in the pot now with celery, onions, carrots, parsley, salt and pepper. I will add some white kidney beans and a can of crushed tomatoes (hoping the acidity doesn't bother me).

Hope your daughter is feeling better, Sherrill. And good luck to you too, hope you don't get it!
That is interesting about the access needle. I didn't have anything like that with my port. They just put it in and sent me home. The seat belt also bothers me with it when I'm driving. What are these little pillow things you're using on the seat belts. I just started Herceptin last month, so I will have it for 11 more months.
Went to Bertucci's for dinner with some old friends from high school tonight. Had pizza and good company and conversation. A great evening!
-
Kay sounds like a great evening!
Michelle- I am glad things aren't too bad for you. Your chicken soup sounds delish! Smart lady to think ahead
Tonight was a screwy evening. Fed the boys scrambled eggs and english muffins and after they got to bed we had tuna melts. It hit the spot! Tuna. swiss and tomato on some whole wheat bread grilled and a pickle. Yummm!
-
Thank you Kay
-
Sherrill,
Hoping for an early bedtime and a restful night for you!!!
The stomach virus definitely is/was NOT a favorite of mine!! Throwing up is very scary to a young child so having someone there to comfort them is important but, when it hits in the middle of the night... NOT fun!!!
Best thing that can be said is, it comes on very quickly...it's horrid while it is there... and then passes just as quickly!
Hope your daughter is on the mend and that NO ONE else gets it!!
-
Debbie and Laurie,
Thanks for the pork chop recipes!!! We've had really good prices here lately on chops but, I have never had much luck with them turning out. Mostly because I think I follow my Mom's "cook them to death" recipes! Can't wait to give them another try!
Joyce,
Welcome!!! That baby in your avatar was the same picture that was posted in the dressing room where I changed for radiation! It brought a smile to my face every day for 7 weeks!! Sort of a... "I am doing this today hoping that, some day in the near future, YOU won't have to, little one!" moment.
-
LuvRVing,
My BS and MO never let me go home with access needle in chemo port. I can see why the chemo nurse was taken back. Good luck tomorrow!
-
Such sad, sad news about konakat passing, I think i will make a chocolate cake in her honor~
-
Debbie!! WHAT??? I have to go read the boards- I can't believe it, I am so sad
-
That is so sad. I never posted to any of her threads, but I did read them. She was an amazing person. You can tell from the outpouring of grief on the threads. Cancer absolutely sucks. I am sad too.
-
Hi everyone! I'm alive and still kickin' after my first treatment. Kind of waiting for the shoe to drop yet hoping it doesn't! Hubby made dinner - boneless pork chops on the grill seasoned with KC Rib Doctor, tossed salad and pretty good cole slaw from Shaw's. He's now proving something he's managed to hide for 30 years of marriage - he actually can put a tasty meal together!
If you're interested in my day, I have posted on my blogsite (and there are pictures):
www.mch-breastcancer.blogspot.com
Very saddened by Konakat's death. I had read many of her discussions and she managed to have such a positive attitude right to the end...such an inspiration!
Hugs everyone!

Michelle, Glad it went so well. Only 7 left to go. Take it easy and enjoy the extra help you have earned it.
Karen
-
Thanks, Karen!
-
Michelle- So glad the first one went well. Give your husband a big pat on the back for me! Husbands can surprise us in good ways! Sp glad he stepped up for you, it's the little things that make all the difference. When I get a moment (and there isn't a stanley cup game going on) I look forward to reading and keeping up with your blog. Great job today, go to bed proud, you did it!
Tonight I made baked scallops which turned out great. Butter in the bottom of the pyrex dish, topped with scallops, sprinkled with some chopped garlic, garlic powder and fresh parsley, a little bread crumbs sprinkled on top. The kids wouldn't eat it but ohwell. Had it with baked potatoes and corn on the cob.
Now I am watching the Bruins/Canucks game- I have a heavy heart for Elizabeth today and tonight. Such an amazing woman for the world to lose.
-
Laurie,
We also have the hockey game on!
Although I suspect you are rooting for the Bruins!! My husband is from south of Buffalo, and since the Sabres are out, I suspect that is the reason he is routing for the Canucks!!
I, too, share in the overwhelming sorrow with the news of Elizabeth's passing! Many tears shed this morning for a person that I never met BUT felt I 'knew' through her gift for painting such a vivid picture with her words. It was almost as if you were experiencing what she was writing about right along with her! The world was truly a better place with her in it and a sadder place with her loss!!! -
Seaside- Than your husband must be having a hard time right now....3-0 BRUINS!!!!!!!!!
-
Michelle,
Sounds like today went well with your first chemotherapy and for that I am thankful tonight!
There was a quote that I kept telling myself all through treatment that said, "Real courage is not the absence of fear, it is being afraid and doing it anyway!". One down and seven more to go!
Will be following along on your blog! Loved your daughter's shirt!!!
You are in my thoughts tonight and always!c -
Michelle- Just read your blog, you looked cute and comfy in your chair, Hey, I didnt get a laptop during chemo not fair! LOL! seriously though Im so glad you got through it ok, I think the first couple of days i had so much energy and then about the 3rd day it kind of hit me but thats not the case with everyone i hope you will be one of the ones who dosnt have any problems at all. Good thing you caught the problem with the solution, I dont think i knew anything that was going in my chemos at the time. Hang in there and if you need anything let us know. Oh, did they give you emla for the shots? You put it on the stomach about an hour before and it numbs the area so you dont really feel anything i mostly used it for my finger pricks because they couldnt draw blood from my port, glad they are able to use your port for blood draws.
Laurie and seaside and joyce- uh ohhh, do i sense a competation here, bruins and canucks! LOL!
-
Took my grand-daughter to dinner tonight had a good time, she is so dang cute i will miss her when we have to send her home to georgia next week.
We made a chocolate cake as promised for konakat, between hubby, grand-daugher and me we ate the half of it, it was good.
-
Yay Bruins!
-
Debbie - you're so right about one day at a time! I'm trying to stay focused on that matra. If I hadn't done that, I don't think I could have pulled off the moves and everything associated with it. I still have a few things to button up, like switching insurance coverages for us and my mom. But other than that, I am going to deal with things as they show up.
They didn't have to stick my port because the surgeon left it accessed when she installed it. They did take blook from it yesterday - this port works for both and my chemo nurse did not have a problem with it. I asked about the EMLA cream for the port and she didn't think I'd need it. So we'll play that one by ear.
Isn't my laptop adorable? I bought it long before I was first diagnosed with BC, and it has certainly come in handy. It's an Asus Netbook, you can get a netbook for about $299 and sometimes less. When I was traveling, I could download a movie and watch it on the plane. The batterry lasts 4-5 hour, depending on how much video I'm running.
I think we may have been the only household around the lake that wasn't watching the hockey game. Hubby said that he could hear people screaming and cheering outside, and shooting off fireworks. I had taken an Ativan and so I didn't hear a damn thing!
Michelle
-
joycek, Good luck with you preop today. I can imagine you are wanting that mass out.
Michelle I hope today is as well as yesterday. I also am keeping up with your blog, actually been reading it for the last month or so since you find out BC had come back.
-
Joyce - hope the preop and surgery goes well. I can imagine wanting to be rid of the mass! And I'll be sending positive thoughts for a B9 finding!
Karen - thanks so much for reading. It's starting to look like a book...lol!
Michelle
-
Michelle, glad you're first chemo went well. Hope you continue to feel well and are one of the lucky ones with no SE's.
Joyce, good luck with your surgery today. Hugs.
My son is coming home from Univ. of Minnesota today (yay!) We're in Phila., it's quite a distance. Haven't seen him since Christmas (before my DX). Hope my bald head doesn't scare him too much. At least I am feeling really well now. Going to cook some good steaks tonight. I'm sure he hasn't had that for quite a while.
Congrats to the Bruins fans! Have a great day everyone.
-
Hi all!
Michelle, I hope you continue to feel well and escape some of the not-so-fun side effects! Regarding the numbing cream for the port, I used it for each infusion (8 chemo infusions and 18 or so Herceptin infusions). Once time I forgot to put it on and it made me realize that the numbing cream does take most of the sting out. It wasn't terribly painful, but If you can avoid some discomfort, go ahead and use it, in my opinion.
Tonight is an end of the season pizza party for my daughter's soccer team, so I guess that's what we will be eating. They we are off to lacrosse for my son. Busy, busy!
I also didn't know Konakat but I read many of her posts, and I felt like I knew her. So sad. I pray for peace and comfort for her family.

Oh, dinner was good. Had T-bone steak, corn and broccoli. And dark chocolate covered pretzels for dessert. Will have to eat lighter tomorrow though.
-
Michelle-Hope the second day finds you feeling ok, been thinking about you all day
Joyce- Great idea on framing the b9 results, wish my onco would give me a prescription for icecream LOL!
Sherrill- Pizza sounds good i love the gourmet white pizzas with artichokes and whole roasted garlic and cheese, yum! Yes we share your sadness on konakat!
kay- Same here, have to start eating lighter i have been indulging in good stuff lately but lots of calories.
Made a great dinner tonight i made chicken tenders and spegghitti carbonara, sauted onions, garlic and bacon in a pan with evoo- poured that over pasta (reservng 2 cups of pasta water) beat 4 eggs with a fork and tempered with the pasta water and tossed in the pasta added alot of parmesan cheesed and tossed alltogether for 2 minutes untill it gets thick and creamy- this is such a great dish!
Then grandaughter and i made some pouchettes that are out of this world and easy to make- Take 8 oz of cream cheese and 2 sticks of butter both softended and 2 tablespoons of sugar beat untill creamy, slowly add 2 cups of flour and mix just untill dough comes together roll in a ball and split it in half to make 2 disks wrapping each disk in saran wrap for 1 hour, roll out each disk on a floured board and floured rolling pin to about 1/8 inch thick each and cut with a 3 inch round cutter- fill each disk with a teaspoon of raspberry jam, or nuetella, or orange marmalade, can use all or just or any filling you like, put water around the edges to help dough to help stick fold over so it makes a half moon put on ungreased cooking sheet bake 375 for 17 to 20 minutes, dust liberly with powdered sugar, i used all 3 fillings because none of us could decide which one we liked best LOL
-
Forgot to say grandaughter and i walked along the beach for 2 hours today and had such a great time going to be sad when she leaves next tuesday!
