    welcome carollynn:)!

Dinner was delish!  Seaside-You can actually go to Olive Garden and buy the dressing right there, it's not too expensive and it makes a great marinade in addition to salad.  Also thanks for helping to take the guilt away from feeding the kids crap :D  I don't do it often so I guess it's ok.  It sure was nice to not cook and plop them in front of the tv with Dora and I checked out for 15 minutes and came back to clean plates, yay!

Yuck on your hubby having to go back out there!  I am shaking my head, right beside you I am sure, it that craziness of it.  Sometimes it's just what happens.  I would have done the same thing to try to save some money and then said, doah!!!!  Today- YUCK!

    Lol Laurie!!

Dora is a favorite of my little niece and nephew!!

Back in my kids' days it was Franklin, Blue's Clues and, in my daughter's case, Barney!!

It really WAS my respite for JUST a few minutes while they were watching!!!

I can remember going to our local DQ waaaaayyyyyy back in my high school days.... Getting a big ol' soft serve vanilla cone (or sometimes the vanilla/chocolate twist) coated with chocolate sprinkles... The whole bunch of us sitting outside on a retaining wall, talking and eating our ice cream!!

Not even sure we  have a DQ still here but, those were the days!!!

Sherrill do you take tamoxifen??? If so ask your onc about grapefruit, I was told it can negate the effectiveness of tamoxifen and a lot of other prescriptions, at least I am pretty sure it was grapefruit...  Sorry to be a buzz kill Frown

Looks like things have been busy here... Hope everyone is well.

We do have DQ here in Chicago but I prefer Oberwies. I do remember some of the best home made ice cream places as a kid were in New England.

I feel for you with the move Michelle.  It is so hard to move, especially across country.  Never want to do that again.  We had the movers from Hell.  They were awful.  Whe

Whenn we moved back, we went with a national co. and everything went really smoothly.  What a difference.  Hope everything finishes up well and you are all settled in together very soon.

This DQ talk really has me wanting some.  But I am on heavy steroids right now and supposed to stay away from sugar until I get off them.  My favorite DQ is not the jimmies (or sprinkles or dots), but the chocolate coating.  I was always fascinated watching them dip the ice cream into the hot chocolate and then see it instantly freeze.

Going to Trader Joe's and picking up a small schicken to roast for dinner tonight.  Haven't been doing much cooking lately.  Or at least as someone said, nothing exciting because I can't even remember anything I've cooked.  Hopefully the chicken will be good tonight.

Getting ready for the heat here tomorrow.  It is supposed to be a record breaker, supposed to get up to 98.  Why does it seem we always get this weather at the end of  the school year.  Most of the schools around here are not air conditioned and there will be kids getting sick in school with that kind of heat and humidity.

Have a great day everyone!   Going out to lunch with some old grade school friends today and then to see Bridesmaids.  Should be lots of  fun.

Valium and statin drugs are two I know that do not mix with grapefruit or grapefruit juice.  There are others.  You can do a google search and find a lot of info on this topic.

I'm currently sitting at the Plastic Surgeon's office at Brigham&Women's in Boston waiting for my appt.  I hope the wait isn't too long.

Michelle, thank you for reminding me to ask about Tamox and grapefruit.  I was meaning to check into it, but put it at the bottom of my to do list.  Basically, my onc said there are 2 issues, once clear cut and the other not.  The first is that grapefruit may interact directly w/ Tamox and should probably not be eaten within 4 hours of taking the drug.  The second is that grapefruit may slightly increase the general level of estrogen in the body (WTF!).  So he said it is OK to eat some, but shouldn't go overboard.  (Which is what I had been doing...oops)  The data in this areaa is still in progress, so he said just to be mindful of how much I am eating.   You think you are doing a good thing for yourself, only to find the opposite is true.  Jeez!

Oh I forgot to add about DQ...we have a few around here, but I don't usually go there.  However, I do remember years ago getting something called a Cake Batter Blizzard...OMG it was a chocolate cake batter flavored concoction that was heavenly!  I don't know if they still make them, but, God was it good!

tonight is a lazy and healthy chicken cord don bleu with rice and some sort of veggie.  I was hoping to make the fancy yummier one, but the hubby was running late.

Hope everyone had a good day!

Sherrill - yeah, who would have thought that grapefruit could be a problem???  I seriously thought about combining it with the valium when I was taking just a half at bedtime.  It supposedly intensifies the effects.  But with just a half, I thought I couldn't get into too much trouble...lol.  I'm off that now and I don't take anything that interacts with it, so I can eat grapefruit without a problem.

Tonight was taco Tuesday and the grandkids always eat well.  My daughter was taken out by her friends to celebrate her birthday, which is tomorrow.  Tomorrow night it will be Chinese food (in the restaurant) for dinner to celebrate the actual birthdays.

Good news as far as the plastic surgeon is concerned...no more fills for now and he thinks I can have DIEP surgery next year.  So no more trips to Boston (thank goodness!) for a 5 minute appointment.  After chemo, before I start radiation, I'll have a consult with a DIEP surgeon to be sure I still qualify.  I can't lose any weight during chemo, though...I have enough to make 2 barely-B cups.  If I lose weight, all bets are off.

Michelle, congrats on completing your fills, and not having to travel to Boston every week!  I remember all to well traveling 90 minutes to NYC, waiting 30-45 minutes, seeing the PS for 5 minutes for a fill, then traveling another 90 minutes home...EVERY WEEK.  What a pain!  Hopefully you are able to get the recon you want...Smile

Tonight was breaded pork cutlets, sauted in olive oil to brown, then finished in the oven.  The kids dipped theirs in BBQ sauce and also had apple sauce and baby carrots.  We also made frozen juice pops earlier, so hopefully they will be finished in a little while.

    Michelle,

We used to have a taco bar where I worked years ago and it was always on Tuesday!  Lol

Glad to hear that your appointment went well and that, for now, you get to stay a bit closer to home!! That will really be helpful!

When I had my consult for DIEP when I was considering BMX, I was told they thought MAYBE I had enough fat for 2 small C's... After gaining due to quitting smoking, Tamoxifen, and, yes, just NOT eating and exercising the way I should... I now have plenty of 'raw materials' for a DIEP and then some!!

Dinner tonight is, steak on the grill (bracing for the big heat wave tomorrow), oven roasted baby potatoes, corn on the cob and cut up watermelon and blueberries....

    kay1963,

Same goes here with the heat for tomorrow!! Every year it gets so darn hot during this last week of school!!  Had to go to pick up my son last year after a gym class they had during the extreme heat!  The school nurse said they were dropping like flies!

    lago,

Ice cream combined with DELIVERY????  Oberwies sounds tough to beat!!!

    Laurie,

Chicken Cordon Bleu sounds just great!! I made a new (to me recipe) for it a couple of weeks ago... I thought it was pretty good!

    Sherrill,

I remember doing the juice/fruit pops when my kids were little!! They really loved them!  I think I may even still have the little mold things somewhere in my cabinets!!!

Michelle- I too am glad all went well today and you won't have to truck back and forth for a five minute appointment.  How annoying!  Is your husband there?  How are things going? I also love how involved you are with your grand kids!

Sherrill- I should do the juice freeze pops too.  I just treated my kids to a package of fudgsickles last week.  My oldest protested in the store that he wanted ice cream as his weekly treat I told him to trust me.  He actually thanked me as he ate the first one!  LOL!  See?  Mama knows best!

Tomorrow is grocery shopping day- I need to get my ducks in a row and get some meals planned.

Laurie - my hubby is "in transit"...lol.  He left Blue Springs this morning and made it to Indianapolis.  He is so tired - they worked at the house last night until 11:30.  He should be here late Thursday afternoon.  I am staying at my daughter's house with the 3 kids, so it's easy to be involved (or hard not to be Laughing  This is something I have missed since the first one was born, so I am actually enjoying being here.  Once we move, we'll take them for sleep-overs and that should be lots of fun.  That reminds me - I need to get some kids' fishing gear!

Fudgecicles, in the whole scheme of things, really aren't that bad for you!!! Granted, they aren't broccoli or carrots but, they are less than 100 calories for a dessert!! Not too bad!!

Debbie - the weight issue is only for DIEP reconstruction.  I've lost more than 20 pounds in the past year, since my first diagnosis, and I am down to 126 (I'm 5'2").  My first PS told me I didn't have enough fat and that's why we went the TE route.  I didn't have time to get a second opinion (which is always a good idea) so I asked my new PS and my new oncologist.  Both have said yes, but the foobs would be small - about the size I am now.  I'm barely filling a B cup bra, and I'm OK with that.  I think a lot depends on how you're  built.   With a b cup and a flat tummy, I'll look pretty good for an old lady...lol.

    -------------------------------------------------
    Capri Sun Fruit Punch Pops
    -------------------------------------------------

    Ingredients
    • 1 cup seedless green grapes, halved lengthwise
    • 1 cup strawberries, finely chopped
    • 1 cup blueberries
    • 2 6-ounce Capri Sun pouches or 1 1/2 cups fruit punch

    Directions
    • Gather these tools: cutting board, chef's knife, dry and wet measuring cups, mixing bowl, spoon, popsicle molds

    • Combine the fruit in a large mixing bowl. Spoon the mixture into 8 popsicle molds. Fill each mold with enough punch to reach the fill line. Add the popsicle stick and place in the freezer.

    • Freeze for at least 4 hours up to overnight, or until the popsicles are frozen solid. Allow the molds to sit at room temperature for 5 minutes or place under warm running water for 10-20 seconds to remove popsicles.

    • Serve immediately.

Note: Use any juicy fruits you like: pineapple, kiwi, orange segments, stoned cherries, or chopped peaches.

    Debbie,

Thanks for the welcome back!  I have had some yucky family issues (teen kid trouble) that I have had to deal with so haven't been able to post as much as I would like... Been just trying to post here and there when I can...  Hopefully we have rounded the bend and things will get better from here!

    kay1963,

Hoping for minimal or, better yet, NO side effects for you from the Taxotere... From what I have heard (although don't have first hand experience... The Herceptin isn't too bad!)

    Lago,

It was HOT HOT HOT here today and those punch pops look just about right!!! Going to be another hot one tomorrow and then we get a bit of a break!!

Tonight's dinner.... DH is not home tonight so it's me, my daughter, son and son's girlfriend... We're having pizza and salad!  Not the best... But, it is the best I have in me tonight!!!

Those popsicles do look good!  It got up to 96 here today, very unusual for Phila.  Lots of schools without a/c closed early.  Supposed to get up to 99 tomorrow.  Just had some leftovers for dinner today.  Watermelon was really refreshing for desert though.

It was hot here today, but we spent the entire day until 8:00 at the lake house.  We ordered Chinese food delivery (wasn't that great), I picked up cake and ice cream for the birthday celebrations, and we sat out on the patio and enjoyed the evening.  The kids were in the water all afternoon and two of them konked out on the way home.

Hubby is in Rochester, NY...not much longer now!

    The popsicles looks delish!

Went for my consult before my port surgery on Monday.  Loved the surgeon - she was very personable.  I have to go for labwork again...another CMP, as if I haven't had a dozen in the last year.  Good thing I thought to bring my EKG and chest xray reports - at least I don't have to repeat those.

Michelle- So glad your husband is almost home and it sounds like you had a perfect day to break in your new place! I'm glad you like your surgeon thats so important.

Seaside- I hope you work your way through your teen troubles, I am so afraid of those years!  What will I do when a I threaten do dessert, or no outside time and have them look a tme like "so?"

It was hotter than heck here today too. 90+ with humidity.  We ran errands in the am and then spent the afternoon on the pool.  I had bought some cod and was going to bake it, talked to the hubby on the phone around 4 and said I was switching to salads topped with grilled chicken.  If you can believe it he got home and fried that damned fish! We had fish and chips a'la hubby poolside and as always he did a fantastic job, better than a restaurant.  However- it sat like a rock in my belly- I can't do too much fried food and it tasted so good, I kept going, blah!

Tomorrow is another hot day planned for us- funny how in NE we go to such extremes!
