anyone have mets to node in neck, not supraclavicular but neck?
During a routine physical yesterday, the doctor found a 2 cm mass on the side of my neck. I had noticed an area of swelling but didn't think much about it. She sent me to my oncologist and he ordered a nasopharyngeal scope(done today and clear), chest x-ray and ultrasound of the area, also some blood work. These will probably be done next week. Anyone have mets to this area. Dr. said it is not normal for breast cancer to spread to this area.

I sort of had a swelling in the area of the neck/collarbone- at the supraclavicular area -it was above the collarbone, so it was nearly my neck and I was very scared. It was a lymph node and it was moveable and solid and on the side I had breast cancer. Ultrasound and all that showed nothing conclusive so I had it removed. Had to be done under general anesthesia at the hospital, as it was tricky and involved nerves and such near it. It was 1 1/2cm and turned out to just be a solid inflammed lymph node -benign!
I know how scary it can be - I had to be medicated during that time of waiting. It was horrible, but lymph nodes can swell for many reasons. My son had a large inflammed one at his neck last summer. It was soon after my diagnosis and he came running to me and said "I have cancer!" and showed me his neck. He was six at the time. I took him to the doctor and he ran a lyme test and it was extremely positive. That node stayed around a long time and is finally gone now.
hang in there!

I have an ultrasound scheduled for next Monday, then blood work up and back to oncologist on the 26th. Although he did say that if I have the results back earlier I can just come in. I also had a visit at my regular breast clinic for a routine visit. He scheduled a new mammogram in a couple of weeks also. We have government health care here and so things are different. I have to say it has gone pretty well all through. My husband had a kidney stone Saturday night and he was seen in the ER at our clinic within two minutes and within 10 minutes we had seen the doctor and an IV started. I will keep updated after my ultrasound next Monday. The oncologist instructed them on the request to give me the results. Thank you for your support and God Bless

I had this issue, just 2 1/2 weeks ago, and mine was cancer-SHIT! Went to my onc, then for a second opinion, and they both have different approaches. Don't know what to do. Had pet scan, which showed the area (also biopsy to confirm), and another area in chest, which my onc, surgeon and rad. onc. weren't convinced. He wants to do rads and surgery, and faslodex (going for injection #2 on wed). The second opinion wants no surgery, and chemo (just had chemo in dec). SHIT, SHIT, and more SHIT! I m hoping and praying yours is nothing!

so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Thank you for all the information and I will keep you posted after the ultrasound next Monday. Will keep you in my prayers. God Bless

Did anyone have any other symptoms other than the swelling of the node? I've had pain and slight swelling just below the neck on the collar bone and then a node that will swell then go down, then swell again. Not sure if I should be concerned. Saw my reg doctor for this once and seemed not to be concerned, gave me med's, went away and now it's back. Just not sure if I should be concerned....
-
I only have swelling, no other symptoms. Every morning I wake up and think it will be gone, but not yet. Monday seems very far away.

Well, I had an ultrasound yesterday. The doctor at the hospital where it was done said that I will need a biopsy and the information would be in my chart. I have bloodwork on Monday and then a return appointment with oncologist on Thursday next week I still think it is nothing as this is a very unusal place for breast cancer to spread. Time will tell. Thank you for all of your support. I will update after my next appointment. Blessings, Kathy

Well, had an ultrasound of the lymph node in my neck and it shows to be just a normal lymph node doing it's job. Still tender but they said that can happen when you mess with them and I have been messing with it way too much. Now just praying it will go AWAY.....

Cabmom, so happy to hear you had a good report. Blessings
-
MRSROCKYTOP55, I wish I could tell you that I feel good about that diagnosis but since it still hurts and I can very much tell that it's there....it just worries me ALOT. Trying to be reassured by the ultrasound but I think I would feel better if it had been biopsied. Sometimes it's just so hard to be confident but I know all of you understand that feeling. Still sending positive thoughts your way.....

I saw the oncologist yesterday and he ordered a biopsy of a mass near the jugular and two small nodules in my thyroid. Preop was completed yesterday and today. I return Monday for the actual surgery day and time, but I am assuming it will be next week. We have a good friend from church who is in her last year of medical school and she has been going with me to help with the language barrier. So things are going well. The doctor said they will have the results while I am still in surgery so that if anything else needs to be done it can be done at that time. Will post again when we know more. Blessings to all.

MRSROCKYTOP55.....will be sending up thoughts and prayers for you! Praying that it will be NOTHING at all.

So glad I've found this site. I've had neck pain and a lump for about a month - went to my regular Dr. who gave me an antibiotic and thought it was nothing. Routine blood work was ok.
Fast forward...just last week had a routine mammo and they called back to say they needed a Dx. mammo and US. I have 3 complex cysts on left breast and birad 4. With the holiday, I wasn't able to get an appt. with a breast surgeon until Thursday.
I'm going crazy thinking the 2 issues are related. It actually hurts up my neck and into my ears. The worry is nothing like I've ever experienced.
-
clr, sorry you are going through this. Is your lump in your breast or in your neck?
-
cabmom-
I can feel the lump in my neck - not in my breast. But since I've gotten the mammo/US results, I haven't been poking around (I don't even want to look at my breasts!) But they did find 3 complex cysts (I think small? all are about 6-7MM) on the ultrasound after finding the density on the mammo.
I'm new to this, so not sure how things present. So worried...
-
clr, please try not to worry. I know that's so much easier said than done. Sending up positive thoughts and prayers for you.....

I had a recurrence in my neck. Not common, but it does happen.
-
I had a CT-scan the other day and they found an 8 mm nodule in my neck. My Onc doesn't believe it's cancer but I will have more test next week.
-
looks like there are several of us dealing with neck issues this week. I will be thinking of everyone until we get back here with updates. Blessings
-
Thanks to everyone for getting back so quickly. I have an appt. with the surgeon on Thursday so I will be sure to stress my concern about the neck as well. Hope to find out Thursday what the next steps are - gyno says breast biopsy is a definite.
-
well, surgery is scheduled for June 16, which here in Costa Rica is really quite fast. They did say we should have the preliminary results that day. So for now just more waiting. I will be very busy with mission groups coming to build a new church here so that will keep me occupied and out of trouble. Blessings to all. Kathy

I had a lump in my neck and sad to say-+ for breast cancer. Had pet scan, mri's all okay, except a small lit up area on pet scan in mediastinum. I started rads last tues. 30 of them, along with faslodex.
-
sharalou, will be praying for wonderful results from rads and meds. I will post after surgery to let you know what's up.
-
Hi MrsRockyTop55
I had a lump in my neck and had surgery to remove it for a biopsy and it was just a fatty lipoma. So think positive thoughts.
-
Thank you Agnes17. The time is going fast and it will be here before I know it. Blessings

Hi everybody. I got my PET scan results today and the report said they small nodes in the upper neck the largest being 9mm with a SUV up to 3. My oncologist felt my neck and said she did not feel any swollen nodes. She told me not to worry and we will follow up in September. Of course I am worried. I just don't know what to do. God Bless you all.

After my last PET scan a few weeks ago, an area near my throat lit up slightly. It looked speckled to me. After my onc met with a team of docs, they decided it would be best if I had the area biopsied. I already have mets in my bones. Next week, I am having a procedure called a mediastenoscopy. They will cut my throat, and take out nodes to look for cancer. I have no cancer in either lung, and the surgeon said this was unusual for breast cancer patients. He said it could be a second primary cancer, like a lymphoma.
