anyone have mets to node in neck, not supraclavicular but neck?

Realtor Jackie, I will keep you in my prayers. Please keep us posted.

I had mets all the way up the left side of the neck to behind the ear. Had a radical neck dissection (at MD Anderson, local surgeons wouldn't touch it). No clear margins, vascular fully involved. Back on the red devil, then Tykerb and Herception - and came back to NED 3 months later.

Well, my appointment with the ENT specialist is tomorrow and I am SCARED beyond words. I still have fullness in my right ear, pain down the right side of my neck and the slightly swollen lymph node in the back of my neck. Just finished all my tests in May and everything came back great....now this! Praying for the best but just not sure what to think....
-
will be praying for everyone for good test results or treatments that work quickly!

Cabmom, before I had breast cancer I had Ramsey Hunt Syndrome (Bells Palsy) which was a result of a sinus infection. This was on my right side. I still have fullness in my ear and pain on the right side of my face. And a couple of years before that I had excruciating pain from the top of my head to my neck on my left side of my face which the ENT thought was sinus related. It took a while before it went away. I just think with every pain and swollen lymph nodes we get we think the worse but we got to believe that the odds of it being nothing is on our side. Just hang in there and we can all support each other through this roller coaster ride that has been dealt to us.
-
Thanks everyone for the encouragement and prayers! Trying hard not to worry.......
-
Hi all. Well yesterday was both good and bad for me. The lymph node I was so worried about, he thinks is fine. Unfortunately, the pain and fullness in my ear and the pain down my neck is from a bad infection in my esophagus. In addition, he didn't like the feel of my thyroid so after my infection clears I have to go back in for an ultrasound of the thyroid and also another one on my lymph node (just to be sure again). I am very thankful that I had some good news! Thanks for all the prayers!!
-
Cabmom, those nasty infections can cause havoc on our bodies. I pray that it clears up soon and everything else goes fine. Cancer sure changes our ways of thinking when we get sick. I bet if none of us got cancer we would not be freaking out with every little thing that goes on in our body. But on the other hand we will always be on top of our health which is a good thing. God Bless.
-
The neck, the under arm area.. yes of course it can come back there!!! Who in the world thinks it cannot come back anywhere it wants!!! Under your collarbone yes. under your sternum yes.. lymphnodes are everywhere in your body. Look up lymphatic system and you will see!!!
If you have had BC!!! Any lump should be checked out!! Surgery is not always the best way to go!! PET Scan and blood work will tell you what is going on!!! The more they open you up the more it may spread... that is what I was told by several docs !!! Look it up!! I am doing xeloda and had radiation on my neck.
-
cabmom, all in all this is good news and will be praying that after the infection clears, all is well. Blessings
oxnardpackers, you are so right. Now every twinge or ache, your first thought goes right there. When I think about this being the norm now, it is kind of depressing. My body already looks like a roadmap and if they take a little chunk every time I have something abnormal, the map will get new highways yearly. Oh well, gotta laugh. God Bless everyone and keep smiling. Later

My friend has Breast CA mets to liver, lungs, bones, including skull and spine. Now has significant swelling of the supraclavicular area and extending to the entire right side of the neck. Doctor states this is highly suggestive of CA involvement in supraclavicur area and/or neck. Swelling extends half way up side of neck and also entire shoulder area at base of neck and in the supraclavicular area. Will post test results should my friend opt to be tested. Presently refusing further tests and treatment.
-
van, will be praying for your friend and let us know if she has more testing.
-
Mrsrockytop55, what happened with your surgery on the 16th??? Did I miss something? I was hoping to see an 'all clear' for you...
-
Barbe, Don't get a chance to get on too much anymore, but thanks for remembering. The biopsy was inconclusive and will be redone on the 19th. I think there was a problem with the way it was done. I am sure it is nothing and really not stressing about it. Just wish all this testing would end. How are you doing?
-
Barbe, don't know if I explained before but when I went to actual surgery, the mass was gone so they ordered a needle biopsy of the thyroid that was done a couple of weeks later. That is the biopsy that was inconclusive. Such fun.
-
MRSROCKYTOP55, looks like you and I are on the same roller-coaster ride. My thyroid biopsy was also inconclusive and it was definitely the way it was done for me. The ENT actually hit an artery.....scared me too death. I will now be seeing and endocrinologist (sp) this coming Monday for another ultrasound and who knows what else. Little nervous but I just need to know. I'm not going to start thinking the worse until I absolutely have to. Sending thoughts and prayers your way......
-
Cabmom, prayers going your way too. We can hang in there. Let me know what you find out.
-
I had thyroid biopsies come out inconclusive years ago too!! Then I had a partial thyroidectomy and it was a HUGE substernal goiter the size and thickness of my surgeon's hand!!!! Spent a coule of days in ICU for THAT one!!
I have 3 lymph nodes waiting for an ultrasound. By the time I get the test, they'll probably be gone!
-
barbe1958, I've heard that a lot of thyroid biopsies are inconclusive and if that's the case, I think I just want to leave it alone. It's functioning normally according to blood work and I feel fine. Just hoping all will be okay. Will send up prayers for your lymph nodes to be okay.....had an ultrasound on one of mine in June or July can't remember now and it was okay....whew!!!
-
Thanks cabmom, I appreciate the prayers!
-
When I had my thyroid biopsy in June, my end told me that the only meaningful result of my biopsy would be if it came back positive for cancer, unless he could be 100 percent sure he got the nodule..when he did the US it was about 1 cm and he did 4 biopsies and knew he had the rivet spot on the number 4, so sounds like it seems to be a fairly common thing to come back that way..unfortunately, mine was thyca..best of luck to you!..I'm sure if hey were concerned by what it looked like on the US, they would suggest another.
-
Marial, thank you for the info. My second biopsy is scheduled for Monday. Was your thyroid cancer diagnosis after your breast cancer or before. Blessings
-
Had my ultrasound on Monday and the tech got the radiologist in and the doctor did a biopsy on the spot! Apparently there are 'scattered' nodes of concern but she found a larger one (possibly two together) and she biopsied that one. Now I just wait to hear the results. If it is breast cancer, is it considered a local recurrence or would it make me stage IV??
-
Mrsrocky and barbe- You are both in my thoughts and prayers as you wait for results, hoping both will be, B9

My thyroid cancer showed up on a PET scan I had 2 weeks after my chemo ended..it is not breast cancer, but thyroid papillary cancer. The Drs said it was probably there several years..I had no symptoms and the surgeon could barely feel it when I went in for my prep consult. This type of cancer isn't even treated in on oncology, at least not at my med center..I had my biopsy with endocrinology, then referral to a surgeon and then to nuclear medicine for radioactive iodine and thyroid scans
/p> -
maria, that's interesting because my breast cancer is Papillary and it is very, very rare in the breast. I'm wondering if that's why it's taking so long for them to get the biopsy results on the node?
-
Hey all.....happy to report that both tumors were benign. I can hardly believe it but I am very THANKFUL. Sending prayers to all of you that are still waiting on results and praying for the best for you.
-
Thank God cabmom!!! I am STILL waiting for my results from 8 days ago!!!
-
Great news cabmom. Hadley, So sorry to hear you are still having issues of whether it is or whether it isn't.
I had my biopsy yesterday. Don't think I will get the results until December after I have a CT of my liver and have a return appointment. So I don't think they are very concerned. We do have a friend in Med school who has a friend in the lab. After a month or so I will have her check to see if anything I need to be concerned about showed up in the biopsy. If so I will go in sooner. I have three hemangiomas in my liver that they keep a check on. I think both of these things have been there forever, but once you have cancer, they jump on everything. I guess this is a good thing but some times I just want it to be over and to be able to go for two months straight with no appointments or tests. Such fun. Hadley, PM me if you would like. Blessings to all and hang in there. Kathy

MrsRockyTop...sorry you have been going through all this testing stuff, but relieved that they don't seem to be that worried about it. I was just talking about you today! A friend who just had reconstruction was talking about donating her prosthetics (she has a place she will donate to). I was telling her about what you do in Costa Rica.
Take care!
