I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

I was not directing my comments to anyone specifically on this message board, I was making my comments in reference to those that other posters had made on the same subject. I have seen at least 20 comments on Facebook today implying that bin Laden is not dead, and have heard the same statements elsewhere. Of course, most of these people also adhere to the birther nonsense. I too wait with bated breath for the Donald's next crazy comedy routine.

Ironjaw: Since I was the only one who posted on here basically about Bin Laden's death and your thoughts were still about what you read on Facebook, you may have thought I had the same feelings as the others. I don't post on Facebook at all and had no idea what was going on there. If you were concerned or in disagreement with what you read on Facebook, it would have been more appropo for you to voice your opinions there than to take it for granted I was in agreement with people I do not know. Thank you for taking the time to explain why you responded as you did to me. As you may have realized from my posts on here, I am not one to always agree with group thinking. I like to make up my own mine about how I feel about an issue. Have a nice day.

(((Medigal)))
Glad to see you posting. It does us god to hear there are other opinions out there in the media.
Speaking of the media-did everyone hear that Limbaugh congratulted Obama? Showed more class than I thought he had.
-
rosemary: My DP said he heard it over the news several times that Limbaugh congratulated Obama. I really would not have expected that but glad he had the insight to do it. I am not a fan of Limbaugh but give credit where credit is due. He did a good thing today.
-
I thought Limbaugh was being sarcastic?
-
E
That makes more sense but I so wanted for him to have a hidden good side.
-
Well dangit! Sorry to burst your bubble, rosemary!
-
Sour grapes = Limbaugh sarcasm.
-
Enjoyful: I didn't hear Limbaugh but DP did and he thought he was being serious and actually praising Obama for a change. Did you really hear it as sarcasm? If it was that makes me very angry at that immitation of a human being! Maybe he wants Obama to fail so badly that he can't accept the fact that he pulled off something really important for his country. How sad!
-
E and Ladies: I just finished listening to a video of that asshole Limbaugh laughing and mocking the fact that the Huffington Post and others were saying he actually complimented Obama! It's a JOKE to this inhuman corpse for a man! He's actually laughing about the fact that anyone would think he could actually say what they said he said. Enjoyful: You are right. He was just being sarcastic. The tape of his comments about it just made me sick to my stomach! A great thing happened for the World today and this hole of an Ass can't give credit to the man who is our President. Now if this isn't "racism" at it's utter worse, what is? While Trump was jabbing Obama about a birth certificate all week, the man was having to put into motion this monumentous capture and he managed to keep his cool all during his tv time with Trump! He has risen much higher on the scale with me for what he has done this week and this idiot Limbo could not even give the capture the serious applause it deserved. I hope he returns in his next life as a "black" snake which is his true nature, imo.!
-
I don't know, guys. He was being a pundit. But the Pres did what needed to be done and he gave him kudos for that. I don't particularly like him but I think this time he gave the Pres his due for leading.
-
Barbara: I had to look up definition of "pundit" after I read your post. "A learned person; a critic"??
I just had DP listen to the YouTube tape of Limbaugh and he was laughing every time he read what the papers wrote he supposedly said praising Obama. You don't laugh if you are praising someone and I don't think what he was doing fits under the category of either "learned" or "critic". But to each his own. You say tomato, I say tomatoe. We can all still survive in the same world inspite of the Limbaughs.

ok..a very bad man is dead, not a bad thing at all, he's been a dead man walking for 10 years.... but i must admit i was shocked when i woke up and saw the television and watched parties inthe street...it reminded me too much of what happens over there when one of ours is killed...I was a bit sick. I understand relief and vindication on various levels, but this was celebration on a whole 'nother level. It is a case of taking on the worst attributes of others...go light a candle or something for all the folks that have died- on 9-11 and in the past decade-celebrate with jubilation when all the soldiers are home....just my thoughts
-
Annette - I've had the same ambivalent feelings and commented last night that I could not remember a time in my life when a death seemed to bring so much joy. About that time the commentator (CNN) said it hadn't happened here since Hitler's death. You're exactly right that it is so much like what happens over there when of ours dies or is killed.
-
Given the description I've heard of the events leading up to Bin Laden's death, that women were being used as human shields, I hope that there is some video record of it somewhere that can be released eventually. Nothing we could do would speak more powerfully to his followers about how sorry an excuse for a human being he was than seeing him living in relative luxury and hiding behind women while expecting them to live in caves and give their lives for "the cause".
The best decision that Obama has made as President was to allow the experts in the military and intelligence communities do their jobs in this case without him micromanaging the details. Our men and women in the Armed Forces are the best, and they have shown that once again.
I hope that even if there is jubilation and gloating in some circles, the media refrains from airing it since that will only provide an excuse for even more outrageous behavior from those who would do harm to our country and its citizens.
-
How do you know Obama didn't 'micromanage' the details? Or was that just a not so subtle attempt to deny him any credit for the successful operation? How about just a gracious 'Well Done' for all involved!
Edited to correct a typo error

Really, PatMom??? Really???
-
Got some inside info?? Let us in on it. Wow, you must really have connections to know so much.
-
This has really been a weird day. I have read the last 4 posts and have no idea what everyone is talking about. Must be some secret code known only to those on the "inside". I sure hope tomorrow is a more normal day and we can put this necessary horror behind us. Have a nice evening ladies.

Bush had 8 years Obama 2
Nuff said.

Okay, let's clear up some details...
1) I might have been the first person here who expressed skepticism about whether Bin Laden had really been captured and killed. I said last night that the first thing I thought of was the movie "Capricorn One." That was a bizarre film in which the gov't was getting ready to launch a manned spacecraft to Mars, when someone discovered a fatal flaw in the on-board life support system. Instead of scrubbing the mission, the agency decided to secretly take the astronauts off the ship and send it to Mars (and back) un-manned. The astronauts were kept at a secure location where the agency interviewed them and videotaped them doing things as if they were still on the spacecraft. The public was never told the men were not onboard the spacecraft. (That's enough spoilers for one night.)
I didn't really mean I thought Bin Laden's capture and killing were faked. It was just a knee-jerk thing, because I'm never 100% trusting of what I hear from my government. Never, ever. It doesn't matter who's in office.
2) I don't know why anyone is surprised that people might suspect Bin Laden is still alive. Heck, there are people who think Elvis is still alive.
3) Skeptical Americans aren't the only ones who want proof of death. It was made very clear when Saddam Hussein was killed that Muslims would not believe he was dead without proof. So, his body was cleaned up and pictures were taken; and IIRC, people were even allowed to walk past it to see in person that it was him. I heard the same warnings last night and today that the U.S. better be prepared to prove to Muslims that it really was Bin Laden's body. So, as has already been noted here, pictures were taken and "DNA evidence" was collected. What did they do, cut off a body part or just collect a blood sample? One news person said today that a tube of blood supposedly taken from Bin Laden would not be adequate proof. Even if it was Bin Laden's blood, that didn't mean he was dead or even in custody. But, the U.S. gov't hasn't figured out a delicate or appropriate way to release the photos of Bin Laden's body. More to follow, I am sure.
4) I wasn't planning to address the issue about Rush L. I actually listened to his radio show today, for about an hour. I thought I heard him say something complimentary about the capture and killing of Bin Laden. Not gushing praise of Obama, but a short comment about being glad it had happened -- sort of like a respectful nod to your opponent after a tough match is over. But, someone called in to Rush's show and criticized the praise as having "aided" Obama's re-election effort... and Rush went off on him. Rush replayed the tape everyone was referring to as "complimentary", but he was laughing so hard in the background that I finally turned off the radio.
5) I had the same reaction as annettek when I heard people in our cities shouting "USA! USA!" and dancing in the streets in celebration of Bin Laden's death. Hmmm.... this is exactly the type of thing our detractors do when something bad happens to us. Do we really want to emulate a behavior we are quick to criticize in others?
6) Finally, although I am glad enemy #1 is no longer with us, I have no doubt his shoes will quickly be filled. And, I have no doubt the terrorist movement he founded will go on without him -- maybe with renewed strength. Already the terror alert levels have been raised at strategic locations here. We had to do it (capture him), but I hope we haven't "awakened a sleeping giant" as the Japanese did by bombing Pearl Harbor.

It's the fear factor. Fear that Americans might think Obama did good.
-
Talk about paranoid reactions. Those nasty, mocking comments directed at me are not appropriate for this forum.
-
I don't think a back handed compliment was appropriate either. So, I guess we're even.
-
PatMom: Given your political leanings, it seemed clear to me that you were belittling the President once again. Some of us happened to disagree with your statement and said so. Guess what! That's allowed on this thread. And what's so paranoid about that?
-
No paranoids here. No mocking.Just stating facts and asking for sources. That is allowed here.
Edited to add: And patriotism. God Bless America and our President.
-
Judging by one of my interactions on FB, I'd say the right leaners are VERY angry. They can't see that their own words and actions condemn and define them.
-
Obama made a good decision, the Seals did an unbelievable job, everyone in that room deserves credit, Osama is dead, and swimming with the fishes..........................Enjoy your swim Osama, you earned it..............Can't fault people for celebrating, this has been a long time coming, so I say "Great job Mr. President"............you deserve applause..........Enough said.
-
Cheers to Obama and all who were involved in achieving justice for all of the people that lost their lives in 9/11 and other Al Queda attacks around the world. Can't we all just be happy for the moment and what it represents. Osama is dead...yep..that's a fact! Obama does deserve credit no matter what political side you are on. Can't people just give credit where credit is due?
I can understand the mixed feelings on whether to celebrate the death of another human or not but I think, in this instance. people should have the right to revel in the news of the demise of Osama. He is responsible for so much death and destruction througout the world and I think all the pent up emotions of the last ten years of terror,,, he wreaked on America with 9/11... should be allowed to be released. Kudos to the Americans for waving the flag and chanting USA. Families, friends and co workers of all 9/11 victims have been waiting for this day...let them revel in it...if only for a brief time. They deserve the respect.
Respectfully.
Pollyanna....aka Pickle
As a side note...we had a federal election today in Canada and have secured a majority government with a strong opposition that will ensure an accountability of checks and balances.
All in all...a good day!

not sure I've posted on this thread; possibly on the previous one....but, "lurk" often to check on some dear folks who I know post here frequently. That being said, I find this last go-around of "is he dead or not--PROOVE it!" absolutely fascinating. I am old enough to know the wisdom behind an old expression that basically says, "Never assume anything because that makes an ass out of you and me....." but, in this instance:
I assume that Osama is dead; killed precisely as stated; given a respected burial at sea in keeping with his religious beliefs and in an honest effort to minimize anger and potential retaliation from the radical cells. I assume that the events that transpired were given the green light by our President and that he, as our Commander-in-Chief, was on top of every move made during the operation.
Do I think this is the end of Al-Quida--hell, no....I think everyone, not just U.S., needs to be on high alert. As with any massive organization, there are bound to be off-the-wall radicals within that organization......misguided zealots; undisciplined "troops" running amock...too many people looking to meet all those promised virgins.........hopefully, some of the minions who have been surviving and hiding in caves for last few years will be hurt and disgusted that their revered leader has lived in relative luxury for some years and they will "defect".
As to the jubilant crowds that gathered--from what I've seen, the only massive crowds and celebrations were in NYC; WDC; and some in PA--the areas most harmed, hurt, and affected by 9/11. They deserve to have a reason to celebrate and I hope it helped some of them finally be able to put that event to rest.
I can't back up far enough to re-read a post without losing this--but someone alluded that this isn't the end of terroism.......I agree. A chapter has been closed, but the book is not finished.
Huggssss to ALL. You're a great group of wonderful women. Thank you for allowing me to post my thoughts on this thread.
