I went to my WW meeting this morning for the first time since the week of my mammogram in June and discovered I weighed exactly what I weighed then--2 lbs. over goal. No gain during chemo! Plus, the leader said "Well, you've been away for medical reasons...I'm not going to charge you." (I'm a Lifetime member). What great news!

I'm sort of tracking points but I'm not restricting myself too much since I'm still doing rads--the rac onc said I should let myself have a little more, especially protein, to help rebuild tissue.

I feel like I took another step toward the "new normal."

Reading about those attending WW continues to inspire me. I went to my meeting this morning and lost .6 lbs. Not much, but steady as she goes. Total lost since end of May, 24.2 lbs. I'm sure the Arimidex is keeping me from losing my belly fat as fast as I normally would, but I definitely look thinner from my sideview! I'm also doing the 10,000 steps and trying to get it up to 12,000 per days.

I'm on message boards for breast cancer, hard of hearing and Weight Watchers. It is phenomenal the advice, knowledge and hints I've received from people all over the country. You have to sometimes separate the wheat from chaff, but by and large, it's like having a gigantic encyclopedia at your finger tips.

Keep plugging away on losing weight everyone!

Go weight watcher woman! LOL! I went to my first meeting this morning and was welcomed with open arms. I saw my instructor which is wonderful and she was so excited to see me. Talk about make ya feel good. I also saw a old co-worker that when she worked with me she and I use to do it together. She started before me and was having a hard time staying focused. I helped her in ways I never imagined I could. When she saw me this morning she made sure I would sit by her. During the meeting she leaned over, put her arm around me and whispered....your my favorite ww buddy. I thought that was so sweet. I'm so glad to be back at it and here's hoping and praying for good results.

Good luck ladies, I know we can do it!!

    Hi all!
I'm new at getting in shape forum I hope you understand me. First of all I'm 21 yo and bc in stage II. Since my mastectomy 2 months ago I have gained 17.6 pounds , ok I have never been overweighed in fact I was considered too skiny (weighed 99 pounds) the point is that I feel really bad with my baldness and my body mutilated (is how I feel about the mastectomy) to deal now with the fact that I cant wear the clothes that I used to , actually I just have 2 jeans that fit me, I talked to the doctor but he said I'm still thin and he did not recomend any diet but If I gained 17.2 in 2 months by febr when my chemos finish the pound gained will be 35.

I eat healthy (much more than when I was bc free) but nothing seems to work my jeans fit me every day tighter if things wont change I wont have clothes to wear.

    Thanks for read this

You don't say how tall you are, but I can understand your concern. With the surgery and chemothearpy you must feel very out of control.

I think it's hard to lose pounds while you are getting chemothearpy, so why not just try to eat a healthy diet. I have read a lot of posts from ladies who gained a lot of weight, and then later admit that some of it was due to too much ice cream and snacking. Try to eat right, and not to eat because you feel bad.

One good thing about being young is that when your chemo is over you will bounce back quickly. That will probably be the best time to work the extra pounds off. For now just try to monitor your eatting and not eat too many snacks and sweets.

In the U.S. we talk about 'comfort food' -macaroni and cheese, ice cream, cookies- things that we ate as children that make us feel better. What are the 'comfort foods' in Mexico?

I agree with Rose. Chemo isn't the time to be trying to lose weight. If you try to lose weight now, you might short yourself protein or some other nutrient you need to heal. Additionally, chemo for breast cancer often causes women to gain weight.

And, being 21, you'll lose the weight easier than some of us. Take care of yourself, eat healthy, and buy some new clothes that make you feel good. Worry about your weight when you're not fighting to get well.

Oh well I had my weigh in this morning. Decided to change from Friday to Thursday sent the instructor I love has moved her days to Thursday's also. I had a few things against me so I didn't do that good. I went a day ealier than I should have, and last week at weigh in I had on capri pants, short sleeve shirt and slip on shoes. Today I have on sweat shirt, jeans and socks and tennis shoes. I was so bummed to see I had gained .4. The instructor told me that yesterday she weighed a ladies sweat shirt and it weighed 1.2 pounds. Maybe there would have been a little loss, but not as good as I wanted it to be. Oh well, I have learned something new today and will keep up the hard work. Here's to a better weigh in next week.

    Cerridwen,
I'm sorry to hear your so young and having to deal with all this. I know how you feel about every thing falling apart it seems. Hang in there babe you'll get through it.

I stayed on WW thanks to all your support. It's been 3 months and I've lost 13.4 pounds. I'm loosing about a pound a week, consistently. Like to lose another 10, we'll see! I've been trying to go to the gym several times a week, but with Christmas and 4 kids, I fell off the wagon too. Back in the swing now, though. Don't want to gain back what took me so long to loose!

    Hey Patti,

I miss you!!! I see you're still struggling with the weight - aren't we all? I gave up dieting for awhile. The medication I'm on leaves me with no appetite most of the time and I just have to eat whatever I can. The good news about that is I have lost 20 lbs. as of this morning (of course, I had beefed up prior to starting the meds). So I'm about 5 lbs over where I was a year 1/2 ago when I dieted & trained for the walk. Story of my life!! Lots of ups & downs. I just hope I can keep it off.

Nice to see so many of "the girls" on this thread.

I had my husband lug my treadmill back in and have been using it. I have finally worked myself up to a half mile each day. I know that sounds puny, and I am certainly in no shape for the Komen run, but I have taken off 13 pounds in about 2.5 months or so.

I am also eating more fruits and vegetables -- raw or slightly cooked.

All this exercise does hurt, especially with the neuropathy in my feet. Even that has gotten better after my "tready journey to nowhere."

Good luck to all. I have a goal of being at 200 by April 1st. If I can crack that, then I go for more.

Patti, keep at it. Lois, good to hear from you. I know what you mean about meds. I am on one that kills off the appetite -- thank God!!

    Help Divas!

Am I the only one struggling since the holidays?? I'm still exercising regularly, but I'm finding it really hard to stick to the WW's eating plan.

I'm watching the pounds slowly creep back on and I'm getting nervous! Any tips to try and turn this around?

Janet--as our official WW's expert--any words of wisdom???

Hope you're all doing better than me!

Hi Eileen, Patti, Janet, Lois, Cowgirl and all WW Divas!!!
Sorry I haven't been on this thread for a long time but since the birth of my two grandbabies in June and October, I've been in Milwaukee and Chicago area alot. Anyway, Eileen, you are not the only one struggling since the holidays . . . me too, me too!!! I'm in Milwaukee at the moment but going home on Saturday and then on Monday I am making a beeline to WW again. I really need the structure and the accountability badly. I gained back during the holidays and now have the same 10-12 pounds that do not want to go away. I need to get back on an exercise schedule again because after my knee replacement I was mostly doing therapy for that and sort of had to let the regular stuff go - but I'm back to the gym on Monday as well!! So, Eileen - again, you are not alone and I too would love some tips and words of wisdom from Janet - if she feels up to it. Hope all of you other ladies are doing well and it would be great fun to hear from you all to encourage each other.
    God bless,
    Pat

    Hi Guys:
Went back to WW today - hadn't been there since June 5th!!! That was right before my first grandbaby was born. It felt good to "begin again" and to hopefully be on track. I think I'll start with the points and then move gradually to the core again. How is everyone else doing with the ongoing battle ??? Hope to hear from you all soon.
    God bless,
    Pat
P.S. And oh yes - need to begin the exercise again as well!

Good luck on Thursday. I do think going to the meetings helps - it gets me sort of reved up and my head where it needs to be. Anyway, we'll hold each others' hands as we did before and maybe Janet will come to give us her uplifting guidance and tips again . . .
So good to be on track again - let us know how Thursday goes, okay Patti??

    Hi ladies,

I joined WW on-line last week (started Monday) and LOVE IT. Am doing the points system and it seems to be doing good so far. I'm sure I'll be tired of eating salad soon though (I'm not a creative cook so go with what's easy!)

I love that I can eat anywhere - just write it down. This also makes me plan ahead so even if I'm a little hungry I know what's coming up and don't just start eating.

I have a LONG way to go, but I think this can get me there!

    Hi Kari:
We're glad to have you aboard. Weight Watchers really is the best eating plan I think there is - it's been around for a long time and really does "wear well." Good luck and as I said to Patti, we'll do this together . . . because we can do it!!

    Patti:
Since I'm just starting over again (for the millioneth time ), I'm doing the points to begin with. Then I think once I feel comfortable again, I'll go back to the Core because I did that before and it worked for me and I really liked it. However, since I feel I need a little more control to begin with, I'll do the points. My daughter is doing WW as well (after her baby) and she likes the points because it allows her to have a Lean Cuisine or something similar if in a hurry. On Core, all frozens etc., would have to be taken as points and that would add up pretty fast. Just a thought. Let me know what plan you decide to do, Patti.
    God bless,
    Pat

Hi Kari...Welcome aboard...If you have any helpful pointers please let us know...

    OK Pat..I did it!
    I hated stepping
    up on that scale...

    I am going with the
    points plan for now

    I feel so good
    about starting
    this ..

    I started yesterday..
I did not want to use my usual
"I will start on Monday strategy"

I am off for a walk
and then I have to figure out
    what kind of pasta
I can have with my chicken tonight..

    My nine year old niece
    is spending the night..
And she always plans our menu...

    The sauce is made..
    I did not dip my
    usual piece of bread
into the sauce for a taste...

I am going to skip the Ravioli
for a better pasta choice ..
thought if I roasted a chicken
    and made a big salad
I would not be tempted to overeat pasta!
    My downfall!!
Too early in the game to fall off my wagon...
    Making a big salad too!

    Oh my husband is also
    doing this with me...

I will check back on Monday

    Have a nice weekends Ladies...

    xoxo

I've gained weight too since chemo I thought I was the only one! But all the books I've read stress how much better women do through treatment if they exercise so I MAKE myself walk everyday...that's all I can do at the moment because I am still healing after reconstruction but I have to tell you I do feel better. It's true exercise gives you more energy and most of us need that right now (plus I'm finally sleeping better)!

Hi marywo - glad to have you join us. You sure are not the only one to gain weight through this journey. But we can all work together and encourage each other to "get rid of" that which we gained, right??

    Patti:
So proud of you for not waiting until Monday to start WW. I know it's tempting to do so, but it just gives us permission somehow to eat more on the weekend, doesn't it? I go on Tuesdays so that should keep me accountable I hope. Anyway, I started out pretty good and then my husband and I went out to dinner last night (sort of pre-Valentine's) and of course today I weigh more. Darn!!! Not what I was at WW but still up and not down if you know what I mean. However, I am back on track again today with my oatbran, oil, milk and fruit for breakfast; salad for lunch and some sort of chicken for dinner tonight. I'm determined!! We can and will do this, right??? And oh, yes, beginning exercise again tomorrow as well.
    Blessings,

My weigh in is tomorrow but at home since I'm on line. We went out last night for a Valentine dinner too (will be too crowded Tues!) - was kind of annoying having to pass on the bread and count out my onion petals but the scale today was the same so that's ok.

I lost five last week but think I'll only get two or three when I step up tomorrow - am still loving the program, anything that can make me count out onion petals and drink water can't be all bad!!! LOL

Good luck to everyone! I don't workout on Sunday - is my day off - but will be back to the Y tomorrow!

    Take care,

    Lost 2 lbs.

Since it was a week that included Brahms, McDonalds, Taco Bell and the steak place, I'm very happy with that. I love the points plan because you really can eat anywhere (if you like salads!)

Used more of my weekly points allowance than last week, will try to use less of those extras this week. I'm 5'9 and 202 and will be tickled when I get under the 200 mark - maybe this week!!!

    Patti,
When I was on chemo, I couldn't stand the water from my Brita filter, and resorted to drinking the plain tap water. After chemo, I can get back to the Brita water and prefer it. Maybe it has to do with the metallic taste that chemo imparts.
