Shirley:
Yes, stunning is the word for Baby Joseph's parents - putting that wee boy through a surgery who even the doctors in St. Louis say won't prolong his life - he is in a coma and who knows how much he is suffering so he could die at home.
The hospital in St. Louis was a PRIVATE Catholic Hospital and the flight, accomodations, surgery, etc. were picked up by a group called Priests for Life - notice no mainstream U.S. hospital was interested in this "political" statement.

"Just a question...anyone ever see one of Obama's Law Reviews published? My DD didn't go to Harvard (way too expensive...I wonder how much Obama owes or did he get a scholarship or did someone finance for him?) and she graduated Summa Cum Laude, valedictorian and now has her own law practice after working for a very large firm right after graduating."
I have also been wondering about these things. And what about his prison records? I have seen nothing to prove that he has not spent time in prison. I also suspect that he has several illegitimate children that they are hiding from the public. Does he have a driver's license? I have never seen one! Etc, etc, etc....
-
What about his marriage certificate. We've seen plictures of Michelle in a wedding dress, but that doesn't prove anything.
-
Back during the time that the Republicans were so concerned that Terry Schiavo not be taken off life support I remember there was a little boy in Texas on a ventilator who was conscious but who couldn't live without the ventilator. The insurance company fought to have, and succeeded in having that child taken off the ventilator. I remember the outraged cries from the Republicans - oh wait, no I don't.
Shirley, your little "I'm in the clear" statement re Ryan's plans for Medicare makes me cringe, it unfortunately reinforces all the negative stereotypes of Republicans. I care about my kids and grandkids, and the people up the street, and in the next town...
It amazes me how Republicans get so exercised about the deficit when there's a Democratic president. When there's a Republican in office they spend like drunken sailors and hand out tax breaks to their base then as soon as there's a Democrat in office the deficit is all of a sudden so important.
-
Shirley -- I'm sure your DD, being an attorney, could access any Harvard Law Review articles written by the President. Why don't you ask her?
-
Shirley -
Do you think the IPAB is going to say - gosh, Medicare expenses are too high this year so let's pull the plug on Grandma? Or do you think it's going to be more general, say, Medicare reimbursements will drop, or the Medicare premiums go up? Are YOU really comfortable with insurance companies denying care? Or Governors yanking people off the transplant list because it's too expensive (but giving tax cuts to businesses)?
Oh yes, regarding Obama's education - he has a law degree from Harvard. He graduated with honors. He was President of the Law Review. He was a professor of constitutional law. If that doesn't satisfy you (even though Bush's abysmal grades did), I do not believe a transcript or an example of his published work will. There will be more cries of "forgery!" and "Soetoro!" and "conspiracy!". Give it up already.
-
Regarding the "race" issue with the Harvard Law Review - you're saying that a person who graduated with honors couldn't possibly have been president of the Harvard Law Review on his own? That he had to be helped because he's black?
-
E, I was trying to ignore that little comment about the Harvard Law Review and minorities. The earlier comment about "I'm in the clear" re. Ryan's Medicare plan was making my head spin enough.
Re. my earlier statement about the Texas child.- It wasn't the insurance, he was on Medicaid. But it also wasn't Medicaid, they were making the payments. It was the doctors, they said that treatment was futile, much as the Canadian child that Shirley mentioned. I still don't recall hearing the Republicans make any statement on that as they called Congress back into session and did everything they could to keep Terry Schiavo on life support.
-
I couldn't ignore it.
-
I really couldn't either but I was rendered temporarily speechless.
-
Even I couldn't ignore it. LOL.
-
R_R - Sorry, I didn't mean to criticize you but it sure came out that way! My head is still exploding; sorry for the curt tone!
-
I can't ignore that despite denying racism, Obama's color keeps being mentioned!
-
ALI( always log in). Better for my sanity. Now back to the world where someone who graduated summa cum laude and was on the Law Review and taught Contitutional Law doesn't have to prove he's smart and saying the cuts to Medicare don't affect me so I am in the clear sounds callous.
Bye Bye

Happy Earth Day all. Interesting piece about Mr Obama's recent campaign trip.
Have a blessed holy weekend and/or passover.

Interesting article here ... http://www.dailyfinance.com/2011/03/28/the-real-reason-gas-prices-are-soaring/
Agrees with what Molly52 said about gas prices ... once again it appears the 'money' people are playing dangerous and disastrous games. I can't be the only one who is tired of paying the price for all that wonderful 'deregulation' that allows them to do crap like this to us over and over again.
-
The Medicare reform has nothing to do with "I'm in the clear". Did I say that? You ladies are really getting nasty!
As far as Obama's race.....DO NOT EVEN GO THERE...DO NOT INSINUATE THAT I'M A RACIST....Because a person brings up the color of one's skin does not make one a racist. I am NOT saying that the ONLY reason he became the President of the Harvard Law Review was that he was black. My DD saved a lot of money and went to, and I believe I've told you this, a law school where SHE was the minority....meaning she was white. Former N.C. Governor Easley's wife was one of her professors.
Unbelievable that the left thinks the right is racist. My pick right now for prez and VP would be Herman Cain/Col. Alan West. May I call you a racist if you speak negatively of them.
You can bring up all the silliness you want about..where's his criminal record...or his marriage certificate...ignorant things like that. I was pointing out that things did change and you will see how one was picked in the 70s.
Excuse me while I go be "sick"!
Here's the NYT's article:

E, I didn't think you were curt. I tend to be dry and sardonic so I know that sometimes people don't pick up on my intention....especially on the internet, so I don't really get upset. I just know that sometimes I have to be a little clearer about what I mean and I figure it will shake out in the end.
-
Shirley, I'm not putting words in your mouth just reacting to what you did say. I guess you forgot saying this,
"Ryan's approach is totally different. First, he does nothing at all to cut benefits for those now on Medicare or for anyone who turns 65 before 2022 (leaving me in the clear!)."
Edited because it formatted weirdly
-
Who gives a rat's ass what race someone is??? Are so many people not beyond that? Why is it even mentioned? Who cares??? During the election someone told me she was uncomfortable that Obama is black. I was astounded, all I could think to say was then vote for his white half and shut-the-eff-up.
-
Oh, I think we need to have a "wash out our brains day" so we can have better reading comprehension of what is posted. How in the heck could "leaving me in the clear" from Shirley be taken in a negative way? "I" can post the same thing since I turned 65 already! She was just sharing information about the topic and how it affected her, imo. When I read it, I was thinking the same thing about how I was glad at least something from these assholes was not going to affect "me" and my "DP" in a bad way. It's natural to think this way and it has nothing to do with not caring about the bad affects it will have on others. If I was so selfish and just cared about myself on issues, why do I spend so much time sending emails to Washington about issues that will affect so many others. Many times I write them because of how an issue will affect our children and grandchildren and I think Shirley feels the same way from other things she has posted. River_Rat, you seem to be too intelligent a person to actually believe Shirley meant that sentence in a selfish way.
As for the racist issue, that link to the article made it clear that Harvard was pointing out that the person they were referring to was a black person and mentioned his race more than once. Obama seemed to be very proud to be the first black man to receive such an honor. I think we have gone far beyond noticing a person's color these days when they receive a high honor or position. If we haven't then it is a sad day for the rest of us.
-
Honestly, for those who disagree with Obama being President, being in the middle of a friggin messy world, and getting blamed for all of it, and for being black, which Hello, his mother was white, can vote him out of office in 2012.............
For those of you who voted for him, who thinks he is doing the best job he can under the circumstances, who really believes he is an american citizen, and who voted for him and didn't consider his color.............you can vote him back in, in 2012
See there is a solution.......make your vote count, and vote for the best man for the job, and for no other reason....................Ok, I'm done.................hugs ladies
-
Shirley - if you don't want people to wonder about your motives, then it would probably be safer to not bring up someone's race. I'm happy your DD went to law school and made good grades. So did my son. Apparently, so did our President. End of suject.
-
Ducky, thanks for your excellent grasp of the situation. (not being sardonic or witty here, I agree with Ducky) Thanks for dropping in.
-
Shirley, you wrote:
"I do know that the Harvard Law Review changed before Obama became president of it. It took into consideration what race one is. There had not been enough minorities in that role...just saying."
It seems to imply that you were saying he got "help" to become President of the Harvard Law Review, being favored because of his race, not because of his qualifications.
Maybe that's not what you meant?
-
Hi, Medigal. Maybe I was being too harsh on Shirley on this matter. But I can imagine if you had said "I'm in the clear" that you would have added that you were worried about younger people because you usually do seem to be concerned with others. I just wish Shirley had added something like that.

I hate to disappoint you ladies, but I did not say "leaving me in the clear". The person who said that was the author of the article.
I'm asking anyone here if they have any answers besides ONLY raising taxes? We have been promised things that are no longer affordable. How do we save Medicare? Medicaid? Social Security that has been looted. I'm really wanting an answer. I really want Congress and this president to work together, but he's out there demonizing the republicans for dare making a suggestion. Really? Where has he been? Now he's campaigning and still demonizing the republicans.
I hope people are smarter than to believe that he really cares. It's way to early for him to be campaigning while our country is in a hell of a shape and there's no rhyme or reason about this non-war in Libya. Now we hear from Admiral Mullens that we are in a stalemate. WTH? Why are non of you talking about this?
-
River_Rat, I am absolutely concerned about younger people...I have three daughters and two grandchildren and two sons-in-law. Puulllleeeassee! I would have told you if I had inserted the "I'm in the clear" to the article I posted.
-
"leaving me in the clear!" when you are talking about a proposal you support that will do away with Medicare for other people is going to be perceived as selfish and uncaring. Sorry ... it just is.
I'll be OK too ... if they don't change it again the minute they get enough votes to do so ... but people like my younger brother who have paid into Medicare for their entire working lives (30 years now) are going to get royally ripped off if any such 'plan' is adopted. I'm sure many of the posters here are in the same boat ... worked and paid for it for years and now threatened. None of us have any business gloating that it is not going to be us ... if we do there will be offense created ... rightfully.
-
Shirley, ah so those were Dick Morris's words rather than yours, then I am sorry I misunderstood. Since you copied and pasted the entire piece I didn't go to the link and thought that you had added those words parenthetically. He sounds like a jerk, would you agree?
