Roadrunner checking in 3 pts
Weight the same 132lbs 1 pt
Fluids 7pts
Exercise 22 pts
Does getting my date for recon count for an extra point ?
Total (pre extra point if allowed) 33 pts
It's been a tough week - first of all I was told that I had not been included on the summer surgical theatre schedule due to an error (in Jan I had been told I would probably get a June date, I need to get some notice so that I can organise care for my mother while I am in hospital and for a little while afterwards) So then I was given an appointment for 16th May to meet the consultant to see if he could get me included during the summer. Yesterday I got a letter directly from the hospital giving me an admission date of 4th May - wtf?? Rang the consultants office today they knew nothing about it but said if I didn't take that date I would probably go to the 'end of the list' again. So now they are going to 'squeeze me in' to see the consultant on 27th April - well I should bloody well think so - how the hell does he know what surgery to do until he discusses the whole thing with me?? So now I have two weeks to try to find a suitable facility that will take my mum on a short term basis - that is going to be very difficult.
On top of all this my BIL (he is only 48) is critically ill and not expected to recover - my D DH had to speak with the dr's today - they wanted to know what to do in the event that his brothers heart stops - he said let nature take its course and do not use extraordinary means to keep him alive. There is already brain damage and even if he were to live he would be dependant on others but he is deteriorating and the dr's said although they cannot give a time scale they do not think he will survive - it is so sad to see his parents dealing with this.
It just seems to be one thing after another.

Hummingbird checking in -
Friday check in - 3 pts.
Weight - weight is the same as when I started this. Do I get 1 pt. for maintaining? - 1 pt.
Water - 7 pts.
Exercise - 8 pts.
Nothing extra that I can think of. I have been horrible in what I have been eating. I need to get motivated to eat better!
Total point - 19 pts.
Good luck to everyone!
-
I have a long way to go, was 145 before the little white pill and quiting smoking. Now that I have quit smoking, it's time to trim my weight down drastically. I now weigh 191, I'm embarassed to see it in print. I think being accountable to the Hummingbirds, will be an extra push. Thanks for letting me join your group. Karen
-
YAY Karen!!
Welcome to the Hummingbirds! If it's like it was for me, putting your weight out there in print was the worst thing! I typed it and erased it and re-typed it a million times before I hit Submit!
It all gets better from here! In the beginning it all feels overwhelming but everyone here is fighting the same battle and are so supportive of one another just like over on the Quit Smoking thread! We slayed that demon and now onto this one!!
It's all about "Eat Less and Move More". Although I think some of us decided we may have had it backward last week...lol
-
Karen - if it's any consolation - I was 235 when I finished tx (mx, chemo & rads) in July 2009, now I'm 132 - I started watching what I ate and exercising more the day I started Tamoxifen which was the day I finished rads at the end of July in 2009. It does take work but I was overweight for over 20 years and had tried numerous times to loose the weight but this is the first time I've really done it!!! The next step is to keep it off and that's going to take a lot of work too and I'm due recon in two weeks time!!. I have found the support on this thread and the motivation thread to be my biggest help - these ladies can empathise with us and it's so helpful to be able to turn to them for support. Karen - I've done it and so can you!!
-
Thank you everyone for the welcome, I really need to be held accountable, as that's what did it for me and smoking. Started today with leafy greens, lots of water, my recumbent bike ( I'm going to use that for my extra point next week),and smaller portions of everything else. Tops on my list is no snacking after 7:00 p.m., which may mean I'm going to bed early, that is what I had to do the first week on Stop Smoking. My grandkids think that's a stitch that I'm in bed so early. Sooo glad to be with you, thanks Meece. Karen

Hey everyone! Renee here checking in "can you believe it... for the first time in a long while" for the Rockin Robins!!! I don't remember how to count points it's been a while...
water - 7 points
Extra pt- 1 pts - visit to my med onco today and great report!!! he changed my Tamoxifen to Arimidex too - I hope it isn't as bad as I'm afraid it will be.
Weight down from 172 to 168 (yeah) - 2 pts
Friday check in - 3 pts
Exercise - 7 pts
Total - 20 pts
I am very happy with myself for getting back on track and standing up to my Onco and telling him that the increased Tamoxifen wasn't working. He was willing to decrease my dosage but suggested that we try Arimidex since there are no steroids in it and it won't or shouldn't increase my appetite... I told him I would "give it a try", but the first sign of pain it's gone. LOL!

Welcome Karen333 - we are almost twins, I was 145 at my dx, I hit 189 at my highest. I keep losing and gaining the same 9 lbs GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
I had other stuff going on until recently and I am finally ready to get serious now that both cancers are (fingers and toes crossed, knock on wood) GONE! And with my pain and LE under control, I actually have more energy so will be moving more
I think being accountable here has really helped by making me think twice about my food choices, now I need to work on portion control and moving more...
-
Roadrunner checking in - 3pts

finally saw back dr about SI joint, start PT this next week- 1pt
still haven't weighed in - I don't count fully clothed with shoes on and keys and phones in pockets at dr's office - that's horrifying. 0 pts
exercise - 2hrs - 4 pts
15 pts total
I applaud those who are losing weight - I'm so proud of you (ok, and jealous)
i totally empathize with those who have gained - dang it! comfort eating - do I know it!
Ainm - good luck with your recon and finding a care facility for your mom; sounds like your family is really going through it
-
Anim, wow, have you done a great job. I am determined to do it now and all your support will be the ticket for me. What type of exerciseing do you do? That will be a challenge for me, since I am not an exercise person. Did you find it harder to do while being on Tamoxifin? I am on Arimidex, and wonder if that will slow my weight loss. Karen
