Anyone watching Season 10 of American Idol?

I do feel that working with the producers provides much more constructive help than working with a mentor who may feel afraid to hurt the feelings of a particular contestant who might be struggling. I love that there is much less "that was just awful" speak. I think that allows voters to make decisions without being so strongly influenced by the judges' opinions. It seems the judges are trying to offer helpful suggestions in a way that the contestant can understand and put to use. I feel Randy has "adapted" to the new tone after a couple of rough comments early in the competition. In my opinion, the show has improved immensely. And I think almost any one of the current contestants could have been the winner in previous years - the talent is really, really good.

Well, the first guest singer was a surprise to me (not Jennifer or Sugarland) -- I won't spoil it, just a bit of a teaser : Also a nice surprise around Steven. So don't miss the first 15 minutes if you want to see those.
Ryan did say we might be surprised at the voting results -- so stay tuned!
-
OK, I'm really being an AI geek or nerd or something tonight... but there was another surprise guest (not a singer) and it was a cute and funny moment. Or else I'm very easily entertained lately
Do watch!
No more posts from me tonight!
-
I missed the first 30m. but LOVED, LOVED James' reaction to _____ _________(whatever his stage name is...)... James is still such a little boy... so adorable and talented!
About surprises... I would not be surprised like I stated before....
And about Ryan S. fame has gone all the way up to his head... but one thing is for sure... he is a hard working kid... will never have to worry about his golden days!
PS: They all look very handsome and beautiful tonight!
-
Not going to say much right now but WOW!!! waiting on Jennifer Hudson to sing...
-
There we go... surprise #1!
-
(guess I lied about not posting any more)
Jennifer looked great, and she knows how to connect with a song and with the audience. Take notes, contestants!
-
-
WOW!!!! Told U girls!!! Surpriseeeeeeee! Better go out and get me a lottery ticket!
-
YES-YES-YES-YES... THERE'S PEOPLE W/ COMMON SENSE! I AM SO HAPPY!!!!
-
Well, interesting night! Final results are in. Do watch. Some won't like it but what's done is done -- and I can't say anyone was right or wrong.
OK.... ready for the theme for next week!
-
PS Naughty, go buy that lottery ticket!
-
Too lazy... calling hubby to bring me one home
... and if I win something worth... drinks are on me at a location to be decided, okay?
-
-
Fun night.
-
Wow what a show. How am I going to fall asleep now?
-
OMG.....I still have not seen it yet but...OMG!
-
I was sooooo tired and I fell asleep during the show!!!! But I did see the awesome beginning happenings! WOW, I had to go online and see what I missed! I wish I had see it all!
-
WOW! Crazy show tonight! Well, that's what I like about it - unpredictable.
-
O.k. going to assume everyone has seen the show by now... what do you think about Casey being in the bottom 3? and then being saved?!!!!! He doesn't appeal to me and I think the public voted and got it right... he should have went home. I think they saved him just so he could go on the tour and get some publicity. Although it could have been Stephano or Thia to go home. None of the above are on my fav lists. Just my opinion.
Next week is 80's week there are a lot of good songs for them to pick from can't wait to see and hear what they choose.
-
Mimi, I kinda agree, sometimes the way the judges make decisions seems contrived, but I know they really liked Casey and I think that was an honest save, even if Casey isn't my personal fav. Besides, now the contestants can't rely on a save to pull them out, so no more begging at the end. That, at least, will be good!
-
good point NatureGrrl! We won't have to sit through the begging/singing to be saved it's done
yeah!!!
-
I agree. The 'sing for your life' thing annoys me. I feel like WE are fighting for our lives, this is just a competition. It might seem trivial, but that phrase bugs me.
Casey isn't my favorite, BUT he is a 'real' musician. I loved when he played the bass. I think the ones who have musical talent will be able to do more in terms of arranging the songs, etc. (although it seems like the producers are doing a lot more of that than in previous seasons). I think the judges respect him as a musician (based on some of their previous comments) and that's why they wanted him to stay. Whether he has the mass appeal to get the votes to keep him in is yet to be seen.
I still am so curious as to the demographics of the 30 million votes - and how many VOTERS there are, ...for example are there 10 million people voting 3x each? 3 million people voting 10x each? Is this info out there anywhere?
Edited to add: Or am I taking this way too seriously, wanting to do statistical analysis?
LOL!!!! -
Amy, I've been curious about those stats, too... I'm spending way too much time thinking about a silly TV show! I do believe that people can vote as often as they want (cynical take on that: so AI can brag about how many votes were called in!). And I'm guessing the bulk of the votes are with the teeny boppers. But that's all I know and I don't even know that.
Anyone know if the stats are out there?

Last night was the last time the judges could use the save vote. What else would they have done, but put on a big show for the camera. Big surprise. My daughter wised me up even before Casey started singing. All about getting viewers to tune in next week.
-
I was surprised they saved Casey. I like when he sings and plays the bass, but I sure wasn't attached to having him stay on the show. Hopefully, he'll go back to singing and less growling!
Can't believe Tyler had a birthday on the show. I noticed Ryan didn't make any snarky comments about his age!
I hope Tia can step it up for next week. Her ballads are just boring to me. Lovely gal with a great voice, but I can barely stand to watch her anymore.

I loved the show last night. I am a big Stevie Wonder fan and Steven Tyler looked surprised. You can tell he is a fan too. I too thought James was cute with his reaction to Hulk Hogan.
I am personally glad they saved Casey. I liked him in the beginning alot, but I think the past couple weeks he hasn't done well at all. I just hope he listens to Jennifer and goes back to how he was in the beginning. (audtions) I thought they got the bottom three right this week, but again, I am happy they saved Casey. The bad thing is Thia and Stefano and Casey are all really talented, but they seem to be getting worse instead of better each week.
I agree about Ryan too. He definitely works really hard, but he does seem to be cockier than he used to be. Oh well.
-
Surprise .. Surprise ... I was shocked by the lack of votes for Casey. I am happy that he was 'SAVED'. Agree with hopeful34 .. he has gotten a little cocky, and his ego is larger than the Los Angeles Coliseum .. which by the way is pretty big!
Was I dreaming .. did Naima go thru???? We 'fans' are a fickle bunch. Thia, safe .. I don't get it - then again, I am not a 14 year old girl.
Stevie Wonder singing and surprising -- Mr. Steven Tyler - priceless .. I enjoyed that portion of the show very much.!
I am less bored, with the 1 hour result show .. 2 hours of smiling, crying, singing, and listening to Ryan at times is too much, after a long day of work, worry and watching our world self destruct before my eyes. Japan, Libya .. U.S. economy.
Just me .. I guess.

I am glad they saved Casey. I personally do like Stephano's style, he could go in my opinion. And Thia has a beautiful voice, but there she lacks depth, which may only come from life experience. She could be booted and come back. I like Paul (the scratchy voice?), but think he will not make it to the end. He is unique and definitely has a place somewhere.
I think the best all around singers/performers are Naima and James.
And Ryan....that man has made a name for himself and no doubt a ton of money! He is ok by me. A little over the top at times, but I think he looks like he is having fun this season. I think he was worse last season getting into little tiffs with Simon on the air.
-
Oop.....that should have been.....I personally do NOT like Stephano's style....
