Anyone watching Season 10 of American Idol?

angel...Pia was my favor She has everything going for her but i dont see she is connecting with the audience.
-
I agree don't think Pia has it in the bag like everyone thinks! I do believe it's going to be someone else. She isn't connecting with the "younger crowd"... Not sure if I fit into that younger crowd but she sure isn't doing it for me. I just don't care for her kind of music. I like the country and rock.
-
We'll see what happens next week.
So Who do you think or want to be eliminated.
-
Im thinking James and Lauren will be top two or Paul and Lauren.
Again you never know.
-
I didn't care for Casey or Haley. The judges should start kicking butt.
-
Jacob was by far the best tonight. I thought Haley did okay too. James was good as usual. I still can't like Scotty, but I love the original version of that song, so it is hard to like it in a country twang. I think he should have chosen another song.
-
I'm just guessing and wishing who should stay and who should go.
STAY= Lauren, James, Scotty, Paul, Pia
GO= Casey, Jacob, Thia, Naima, Haley.
Not Sure= Stefano
The judge has spoken
Good Night
Time to watch my DVRed Survivor.

I didn't get to see it yet, we have tivo issues! Will try on hulu later.

Overall, it sounds like everyone enjoyed it more last night. I know I did, but they were working with such great songs, it was hard not to like it to at least some degree!
I thought James and Jacob knocked it out of the ballpark, but Jacob was the real star last night, maybe because he really showed some growth and ability to take suggestions. He's not my fav in the competition but for last night's performances he was.
Thia, yes, I thought she was dropping syllables and/or words. Very odd. She's just too young for this competition.
Haley looked uncomfortable to me but I still think she's one of the better and more interesting singers. Lauren was good but there was no wow factor for me. Scotty did a good job but nothing great, he doesn't seem to have much range at all, and I thought he got cheesy at the end of the song, and as someone else has said, I find him cocky. Sorry, Scotty fans! Naima got into the song and actually did a decent job but no wow factor again. She may be connecting with the audience better than some, tho, and may hang on because of that. Casey -- I thought he did a really good job with making the song his own but he didn't do anything for me. Stephano, I really liked him earlier in the competition, and I do like his voice, but he kept his eyes shut too much after being told two weeks in a row to cut that out, and I didn't like him giving excuses for why he does that, but I'm thinking he'll get a lot of votes -- he may be one to keep rising to the top -- I suspect he has that kind of appeal. Plus I really did like what he did with the song. Paul was sweet and I was glad to see him stand STILL
(at least relatively). Pia, OMG, what a one-note wonder and was that Motown?? She may have a great voice and may have sung well but she completely butchered the Motown vibe of the song. She must really think she's Celine Dion. Even country-Scotty put his spin on Motown without butchering it. I wish she would go -- I know people love her, but I say BLEECH. Too boring for me. And I love ballads.
I was thinking about how the singers aren't connecting with the audience because some of them aren't connecting with the songs and then Jennifer said the same thing, so I guess I've been watching the show too long if I'm starting to think like them!
Also, I'm really wondering if the judges have been told to be soft this year, and it still feels like Pia is "hands off" to them -- I know this isn't the 50's and shows aren't rigged but if I didn't know better I'd think someone was telling them to not criticize her. And it's not just because I don't care for her; I really think she does need to show some variety and she doesn't, and in previous years they would have been all over her for that.
Also in previous years they were always looking for the singers to show some growth and they aren't even talking about that this year.
I see Thia going this week, she was definitely the weakest, but I can't predict the bottom three beyond that.
All in all, at least a much better show, but it's hard to go very wrong with those songs -- can't wait to find out next week's theme!
-
NatureGrrl you are right on with your critique, I agree with everything you said...at this point I am watching just to see Steven Tyler smile, what a great boyish grin!!!!
-
Angel .. Agreed, Pia song bored me to tears. She is however, the total package -- Ballard's, yes she can sing- too predictable, nothing exciting with her performance. Rock it, move .. do something that will appeal to the younger crowd .. who are purchasing itunes, and cd's.
Jacob -- really made me a fan last night! WOW
Lauren .. showed us she can sign, and can compete with the 'big boys' (Jacob, James, Casey and Scotty)
Still a Casey Fan .. Love him, he is a unique tone to his voice, like Paul.
James ... LOVE HIM!!!
Seyla .. Following your lead .. Survivor DVR;d .. so I will reward myself after coffee, and 10 minutes of exercise this morning, .. I'll watch Survivor !!(okay, maybe 25 minutes of exercise).
What did you all think of Naima's performance? Bob Marley vibe ...
Vicki
-
** Bottom 3 tonight ??? **
-
Thia? , Stefano , Haley?, Naima
Vicki
-
Haley will probably be one of the three.
-
I'm terrible at predicting what the votes will show but Thia for sure in the bottom three, and although I like her the voters don't so I'll add Haley... then maybe Paul but more likely Naima? Stephano took a huge leap in the polls last week and I'm guessing he'll hold that -- but you never know!!!
I have to admit I like most of them better than a week ago (except Pia, I just don't like her boringness in spite of her voice), so this was a good theme week for them. But I do think Thia will get the boot.
-
Thia is actually doing way better than Lauren, Paul, Casey, Naima, Haley, and Stephano in the poll I saw -- they're all 5% or below and Thia is at 10% -- and is almost matched with Pia (11%) -- so who knows. She may be appealing to the younger voters a lot. So tonight could surprise us. Or not
-
Nature...I actually voted for that poll to see the results.
James and Scotty had each 18% of the vote.
But that's a small amount of voters I think.
Tonight Haley or Stefano might go home.
I cant wait until 8

I really enjoyed last night. Here are my observations.
These kids (mostly) are VERY YOUNG. They are probably battling major nerves and so focused on doing the right moves, right notes, staying with the band, remembering the words etc etc etc that their emotions are frozen and they can't make that emotional connection with the audience very well. I think that comes with time.
Pia - is technically perfect. Not one thing off. But she seems very cold to me. I don't know any other way to say it. Just too much "ice queen" to me.
Thia - pretty girl, pretty voice - forgettable. I predict she goes tonight.
Casey, Jacob, James, Paul, Stefano, Scotty - all seem interesting and unique. I tune in with interest to see what they'll do. And that says something.
Haley and Lauren - pretty girls, pretty voices, not sure about star quality.
Naima - interesting but a little too strange. Not sure if she will garner enough of a fan base.
Overall, I'd have to say Jacob was the strongest. But I never vote and I'm not sure who does so I can't really predict.
We'll see what happens tonight.
-
I missed Naima last night so I just watched her performance. I do like her. She is interesting and I thought did great last night ... loved how the song ended too!
Who's the guest singers tonight?
-
I think Thia will go, she has a pretty voice but no stage presence. She's young, so maybe a year or two of seasoning. Naima is distinctive, don't know how big a base of support she will have. I enjoyed Paul's song last night, the guitar seems to anchor him, so he isn't all over the stage. On the other hand, Mick Jagger has a strange dancing style, it doesn't detract from his popularity. I think Thia did have a lyric flub last night, another person had commented on it too. James is my favorite though, he just puts it all out there.
-
I think will we lose either Thia, Naima, or Haley tonight.
anne
-
Yes, I think the bottom 3 will be Thia, Naima and Haley, too. I had high hopes for Thia because she has a pretty voice and pretty face, but the performances weren't so hot. Not a big fan of Naima...she's OK but not one of the top. I really like Haley, but she's always at the bottom, so I don't think she has staying power. If it were up to me, Scotty would go. I know a lot of people love him, but did NOT enjoy him last night. He seemed awkward with his movements, and not being a fan of country music does not help! Lauren was great last night, too!
-
Did anyone catch Steven Tyler's line last night, "You don't look a day over fabulous!" I don't remember which girl he was saying it to, but wow, that was a great pickup line!
Michelle
-
LuvRVing === if memory serves me ... Pia, and yes a great pick up line. LOL
Vicki
-
Yeah... I'd melt if a man said that to me. Especially Steven
Seyla, I don't know how closely that poll mirrors the voters, since it's independant and only taken by people who visit that website (which isn't the official one) -- I know I never phone vote but I did click on the radio button just for kicks. So who knows what the voters thought. We'll find out at least the bottom part tonight!
-
LOL, I've just about reached the point where I'm watching just to see what Steven says! That dude loves the ladies - he looks like he's scouting the audience when the camera is on the judges. He's a trip, glad they have him. It's also funny to see all the signs in the audience directed to Steven and not the contestants. Last night I saw one that said, "Steven - Walk This Way". Us crazy women-folk!
I agree with your list of interesting performers, Amy, and they're the ones I perk up to see if they do something good. Although I'm losing interest in Casey - always the same schtick. I still think Lauren could knock it out of the park if she put a little more effort into her performances. If not, she's wasting her opportunity here.
Pia seems sweet and is definitely very pretty, but where's her appeal? There is zero connection to the audience, but she says she'll work on that. I think it's an either 'you got it or you don't' kind of thing for a real star.
I think Jennifer Hudson and Sugarland are performing tonight, but my son made a disturbing observation last night. I'm afraid we won't have ANY mentors this season - they were one of my favorite parts! I'm afraid it's just going to be Jimmy Iovine and his band of producers that will be mentoring and modifying the songs week after week all season. I hate that decision!
I think the bottom three will be - Thia, Hayley, Naima
-
If that is true the record companies want to groom the best singers from the get go.
-
I have been watching it off and on because of STEVEN. I have always been a huge Aerosmith fan and have seen them in concert a number of times. I think he is doing a great job! Still looks sexy at 62! I have always only gotten into Idol when they get down to the top 10 so I look forward to watching it more often.
-
Teka,
Interesting theory about the Music Producers .... makes sense.
My interpreting of the judges thus far:
J-Lo so far gives constructive criticism
Steven just seems to enjoy all the singing, moving and swaying to the songs - smiling
Randy is seemed uncomfortable - he has decided his position there at the table.
Ryan .. annoying - and I think I may want to blow up that staircase he walks down week, after week --
Want2be record producer, Vicki Sam
hey, that's an excellent choice for my record label .. Want2be
-
Totally agree with AmyIsStrong points of view.
Thia would be my pick to go home too but something tells me we might have a surprise...
than again, I have never won the lottery
