Anyone watching Season 10 of American Idol?

IMO ((I really liked Karen at the beginning)) Because Karen is bilingual like Jennifer she feels she is above for the rest of them.
Just my opinion. She is always trying to please Jennifer who is also a New yorker.
I really loved the song Heroes half Spanish and English.
Well we'll see.

Gearing up .. Ladies .. for tomorrow nights ..sing off! It will be interesting to see everyone, and which contestants shine!

Does anyone know if there will be a genre they have to adhere to? I liked that they gave them so much leeway last week by letting them chose a song by their idol.
Though I suppose the smart ones will be able to make anything work. Like Adam... look what he did with Ring of Fire on Country week!!

On Wednesday, March 16 8/7c, the Top 12 (Casey Abrams, Naima Adedapo, Lauren Alaina, James Durbin, Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald, Thia Megia, Haley Reinhart, Karen Rodriguez and Pia Toscano) return to the Idol stage to perform songs from the year they were born.
Tune in the following night, Thursday, March 17 8/7c, to the live results show to see performances by Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum pop superstars The Black Eyed Peas and Idol Season Nine winner Lee DeWyze, as well as to find out who receives enough votes to stay in the competition and who is sent home.
-
Oh good! It sounds like they will have a lot of song choices to choose from then!
-
What I heard today .. is that the 'public' is no longer invited to sit in on the rehearsals -- I guess, too many spoiler alerts .. inside information being passed out via tweet ..
I just hope .. the judges grow some kahunas = and start to critique the contestants.

I hope they choose the right ones.
I cant wait
-
I'm with you Vicki.
They Cant be nice all the time.

I think Randy will be the Dirty Dog this season!

I'd like to see them do live shows. The pre-recorded stuff is for the birds.
I'm disappointed with this week's "theme" -- they can still pick a song within their comfort zone -- which I predict Scotty and Pia will do for sure, and probably many of the others. I would really like to see them have to stretch a little more, and I'm guessing several of them won't do it unless forced. Frankly, as good as their voices are, I'm getting a bit bored because it's getting too predictable. I hope tonight they surprise me!
-
I feel that Scotty would have a problem doing most songs.
-
I agree, Teka. I'm not sure Pia will be able to do anything outside of her Celine imitations, either, but she might. But at least try, people!
-
Glad it's on tonight, but I'm also disappointed they aren't live any more. That REALLY takes away a lot of the appeal of the whole show.
Also looking forward to when they have themes like Aerosmith week - haha, could you imagine that? It would be interesting to see Scotty sing the blues, or Pia rocking out, or James or Casey doing country. Yes, they will still be in their comfort zones tonight.
Ashthon was definitely the right choice to send home last week - I was actually surprised she got one of the judge's picks. I think somebody said this already, but she (and others) have been praised so much by the judges that they can't believe it when they're criticized. I hope we start hearing a lot more constructive criticism from the judges.
I like Casey, for example, but he has not veered away from his shouting, blues-type songs. I remember once when we were at Karaoke night, everyone pushed my husband to get up and sing and he chose "Twist & Shout" by the Beatles. He later said he chose that because he didn't really have to sing, it was more yelling than singing. I think Casey does that. I want to see these singers have to stretch themselves, but it's probably not going to happen tonight...
-
Probably not until the last 10.
-
Hm. My paper says tonight's performance is live.
Call me confused
-
Are you East Coast, gals .. ready .. ? Hope tonight the judges .. are more 'real' with comments and suggestions .. It is after all, American Idol !
Vicki Sam
-
Ladies .. What did you think ???? I am interested .....
-
Boys blew the girls out of the water again. When do they start having to sing a certain genre'? Karen
-
I think Naima will go this week--her singing was way off tonight.
-
Agree, bottom 3 Naima, Thia and Karen
-
My daughter told me tonight that it is live, and we all see the show at the same instant, but at 8 in my time zone and maybe 10 in a different time zone. VickiSam in Southern California, I don't get to see the show 2 hours before you. I still like Paul.
-
I think it was my attitude, but I wasn't blown away by anyone, and actually got bored during some of the performances. At least Jennifer came up with some criticisms but it's like they're afraid to say anything bad about certain contestants.
Maybe the focus of the show has changed but I know in the past they always challenged contestants to be original... I hear them say that to some people but not to some who I think are especially routine with their songs. I don't get it.
Paul is so adorable and I love his voice but I wonder if he could maintain that quirky dancing over a 2-hour concert
I think he's really cute and I love his style but I might get dizzy watching him for more than a few songs
I don't get the love-fest the judges have for Pia, she has a great voice and uses it well but her song choices are so predictable and to me she does nothing original with them -- she mainly sings them as they've been sung a million times. Bor-ing.
Naima and Karen are going to have a rough time staying in much longer, Thia, too, although I still really like Thia's voice, it has some qualities that I find far more enjoyable and interesting than many of the others, but she seems to need more experience.
Not that I know diddly about music, but it's fun to have a place to share my opinion
(It was live for us on Eastern time, 8 PM, does that mean everyone else had it live as well and it was on as early as 5 on the west coast, or do you get a recorded version of the live show?)
-
Everyone at the same instant sees the live show. While I watch the show at 8 in my time zone, someone else at the exact moment can be watching the show at 10 in their time zone.
-
Did someone mention the word 'Bored'? I too was distracted by anthing in my bird's eye view .. could NOT get into American Idol last night -- just thought it was me. I am suffering with kidney stones, right now ... so I am uncomfortable and in pain. .. so just about every contestant bugged me last night ...NatureGirl - I agree, 100%
Please note: I am not a professional singer, altho, I pretend to be. LOL
Naima - What the %@#%@ was she singing? I adore her personality, back story, outfits and matching flowers .. but, no way will she staying much longer.
Karen - with her bun on top of her head -- ugly - ( I am not a professional stylist, but I seriously could do better with 1 hand tied behind my back) .. over the knees, black leather boots .. maybe Karen was going to hit sunset strip, after the show. Okay, that was mean.
Paul .. I thought he was a little too quirky for me last night. I love his big smile - he needs to stand still, sing then at the end of his song ... move a little. OMG - I got dizzy watching his performance. Poor song choice...I could not watch a 2 hour concert with Paul moving all about - I would get verigo.
Very disappointed with everyone's performance, with the exception of Stefano. I love James, but he is getting very cocky. Casey - the screaming ...
Sorry to be so blunt!

I thought the boys were really good. I wasn't a big Stefano fan before, but every week I like him more. I really like his energy. I like Casey, James and Jacob. They aren't all my style but at least they are NOT BORING and make you curious to see what they will do. the girls seem like they all just get up there and sing a song without anything particularly creative or interesting about it. I like the country guy too but I forget his name - oops.
What I did like about Karen is that she sang with passion - I hate when they sing a sad or angry song and smile all the way through it with a total disconnect to the lyrics. And she did not do that.
But to be honest, Karen, Thia, Lauren, Naima, Haley, Pia - they all have good voices but I wouldnt' be disappointed if I never heard them sing again. And I guess that says something. We'll see what happens tonight.
-
Teka, you've got it backwards -- if it's 8 Eastern time, it's only 5 Pacific time, that's why I asked my question -- it's not later further west, it's earlier, and it seems odd that they would air it so early for the west coast people.
Vicki, yes, bored!! We must have gone to the same music critic's school
even down to getting dizzy watching Paul!
The fun of this thread is being blunt and yet not arguing hotly, so I look forward to hearing what others thought!
-
What did everyone think about the judges, and their comments last night?
Vicki
-
I liked that Jennifer stepped up and gave some good constructive criticism, Randy is taking on the "bad cop" role but still not really strong in most of his comments, and Steven is a big softie, which is endearing
but not much help to the contestants. I actually miss Simon -- he may have been blunt but he was honest and goaded contestants on to do better.
I appreciate that the singers are all good and maybe the judges are having trouble finding specifics to critque (although I'm not having that problem
) but this is a contest and I think it would serve the contestants better to be able to point out areas where they can improve. The judges do that some, but no one in this contest is above needing to improve, nor do I think many (if any) of them are doing their best.
Vicki, you're on the west coast, what time did the show air for you?? I'm still confused about how they're handling this; if it's live for all and aired really early there, or if you see a recorded-live version, which I think is what they did in the past.
-
recorded-live version ..
Missing Simon here, as well!
