    Zogo - I usually wing it on recipes... for the quiche's I use 4-5 eggs, 1/2 cup milk, lots of veggies (usually sauteed first) I buy the premade pie crust in refrigerated section when using crusts, for the mini quiches in the muffin pans I put the cheese first, veggies second and then pour egg mixture over till 3/4 full.  Sometimes I hit www.allrecipes.com for idea's when I want to mix it up.  For the Mexican quiche, there is a frozen mixture with the black beans, peppers, onions and corn at my local store so all I have to do is add cheese and egg mixture.

    Thanks Seyla, Meece and Suzwes. I will check in Thursday and at least get 3 pts. I don't think the scale is going to show any change again but I am going to keep trying. It is going to be so hard the next week because I will be on vacation but I will try to behave!

    Just make wise choices when you eat out.  But don't deny yourself either.

    I eat a piece of mozzarella string chz, a peanut bar, v-8 and a banana for most breakfasts.  I change it up occasionally.  My partner eats a boiled egg - her dr's suggestion.  I never liked breakfast as a kid, but now depend on it to get my day going.  I have never liked cereal and milk, for breakfast - if I eat it at all, it may be as a snack or for dinner.

    I've been eating a yogart and half of an english muffin and milk. Or homemade granola (without much oil) and milk. I firmly believe in eating breakfast. The theory I've heard is that if you wait so long from supper to lunch, your body senses a starvation situation and slows down your metabolism in order to conserve everything it can. The idea of 5-6 small meals per day is the same idea - you are supplying steady nurtrition and keeping your blood sugar more level. For myself, I do fine with 3 meals a day - I'm just not a snacker. But I have found that I need a protein snack at bedtime, or my morning blood sugar is much higher. The protein at night gives me something to digest slowly and keeps my blood sugar more level.

    I saw a commercial last night stating that 2% milk has more saturated fat than whole milk.  Is that true?  I know they were selling their "milk product", but What type of milk would be the best to use?

    Individual quiches are a GREAT idea!  I really need quick to fix stuff for breakfast and those would be perfect, not to mention another way to get veggies!  Thank you!

    I am too.  That's a great idea.  I may have my daughter fix them for me - she loves to cook.

    o2b, I couldn't find any individual quiches recipe...I guess you could just use a regular recipe and divide it up?  Or maybe I was using the wrong wording for my search.  Do you need to spray the cups?  And what kind of cheese do you put on the bottom?  Does it get crispy or melty?  I'm a big cheese fan being from the "dairy state"  lol Thanks for your input, it seems like a great idea, especially if you can freeze them.

    Meece, you may really be onto something!

    I used to eat a light breakfast religiously when I was working but, really just haven't been doing it now that I'm not!!

    2hands,

    My Mom's blood sugar was slightly elevated last time she had bloodwork done and the advice from her doctor was to have a high protein snack before bed... Her numbers are now back within normal range so that is a very good tip as well!

    My weight was down today and I am HOPING it stays until Friday but, I've had many weeks where things looked good early in the week and then my body (and the scale) just didn't cooperate on Friday!

    I made a batch of individual quiches this afternoon, sprayed the muffin tin and couple of custard cups and they came out just fine.  Got them packaed up and in the fridge ready to heat-n-eat the next few mornings.  Thanks for the great idea!

    zogo -  have both the silicone cupcake pans and regular metal baking pans, the regular metal ones need to be sprayed. You can take a regular recipe and divide it into the muffin pans. I usually just wing it although there are times I have to look up a recipe ofr temp/cook times.

    I LOVE cheese! What is neat about the muffins is even though the cheese is put in first, it does spread nicely throughout the individual quiche.  For crunchy, crispy cheese I just bake spoon fulls of cheese in the oven until bubbly brown and then let cool or fry cheese in a pan = yummy cheese crisps/chips.

    Meece - about milk - my understanding is that 2% milk has a guaranteed minimum of 2% but may be more, and whole milk has a minumum of 4%, I think?

    And I read something today that said that slightly green bananas are good fill-up food, with a high degree of fiber and so a low total carb.

    bcincolorado,

    Thanks for the recipes!  Those chicken and spinach calzones sound really good... So does the open face ham and cheese.  May have to try that with a big bowl or tomato soup!

    How are you doing? Have you recovered from your accident?

    Checking in a day early for Team Hummingbirds:

    Check in = 3 pts. (told it was OK to give myself 3 pts. even if it is a day early)

    Water = 7 pts.

    Exercise = 7 pts.

    Total points = 17 pts.

    Still working on any weight loss to speak of. Have not been at my weight of 144.5 for a while now. Today I weighed in at 145 so I guess I am getting there slowly but surely.

    I won't be able to make next Friday's check in. I am leaving for Hawaii Cool tomorrow and won't be back until the following Sunday. I will check in then but not sure how good I'll do!

    It really does.  I had my breakfast cereal this morning, then at 10 my friend called and wanted to take me to breakfast so I had some eggs and potatoes.  Then I went to the hospital and at 1:00 Dad wanted lunch.  I told him I wasn't hungry, but he wanted the company so I had a little green salad and some melon and strawberries.  Of all days to get three meals in before 1:30 it had to be a Thursday!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi All,

     Thank you for encouraging me last week.

    I decided to go back to the dietitian who helped me loose around 30 pounds two years before BC.

    I kept the same weight for two years!!

    She says it will be harder with the tamoxy and LUCRIN, but she believes I can loose the 9 pounds (back to 130) little by little.

    She said my main goal should be restoring my immunity system (which luckily is not that bad) .

    My weight according to her is within range to my height but on its high end. I still want to go back at least the 9 pounds.

    She gave me a diet to follow and some recipes that I can share with you if you want.

    I will do it later because I'm on my way to meet some friends for lunchTongue out in a very good restaurant. Hope I manage to keep myself away from the carbs...

    Checking in though for the hummingbirds:

    Water- 7 points

    Lost a little from last week 139.66 - 2 points.

    going back to dietitian counts as special effort? if yes than 1 point.

    exercise not very good, only 4 points.

    total: 14 points

    NM, I think you should give yourself one point for weight staying the same.  O pts would only be if it goes up!

    Robin Checking In:

    Friday Checking=3 pts

    Weight Same=1 pt

    Exercize=0  (maybe next week)

    Water=7 pts

    Total=11 pts

    Extra???  I went back to walking stairs most of the week at work instead of the elevator, does that count?  If so, please add to my total.

    Seaside, I'm doing better this week and definitely walking faster at work up and down the long hallway in the office.  The anxiety about traffic and driving is pretty bad though.

    don23, I am so jealous!!!!  Have a wonderful trip!
