kitchenwitch thanks for bringing the goodies!
-
That was awesome, everybody! So glad to meet everyone (and see Sweaty & Cookiegal again). Starting to scout locations for next time...
-
Kitchenwitch - Thank you for those yummy cakes of St Agatha. I woke up this morning thinking about them, how delicious and fresh they were. Thank you for going out of your way getting them.
Cookiegal - thanks for your kind comment!
-
I think Kitchen gets all the thanks for the "boobies." I also came home with more spring in my step. Love meeting you all at Lemongrass. So do we have any ideas for where to meet next? Do we want to invade Lemongrass again or the seaport????
-
The Seaport sounds good. Do you have any idea where we should meet?
-
I am a weepy mess today. It was really great meeting you all yesterday. Today is another story for me . Have been crying all day... Just want to stay in bed.... I will try to take a shower at least.
-
Hi, all -- It was so great to meet you all! It was almost my first opportunity to talk face-to-face with other women who are in the same bc boat. I hope we get to do it again soon.
Survivorwoman, hang in there, sweetie. It was not such a great day for me, either. Normally I have a decent energy level on Sunday. I had so many plans for today, but I just wasn't up to it. Then I learned of the death of a college/Air Force friend of mine. It happened more than a year ago, but I'm just learning of it. Very sad. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.
Thanks again Flash for dinner, KW for dessert, and everyone for being there!
-
sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. it's never easy. hugs.
-
Flash, CityKitty- thank you for making me better. I will hang in there. Couple more days till one last kick in the stomach chemo then recovery time. I can't wait to eat a fresh apple and some other raw foods.
CityKitty- truly, I am really sorry about your friend. My condolences.
-
Kitchenwitch - I love your photo of the St Agatha's cakes. Hmmm! Yumm!
-
I am DONE with chemo! At last !!! Today I finished this part of the treatment and will move on on to the next phase. Thank you ALL for your support. I can't wait to see you all again but hopefully with hair growing next time. Love you all!
-
Woooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooo! Full steam ahead!
-
Yes, full steam ahead. Thank you Flash. It is so kind of you to say it like that, it helps a lot.
I have a question for you Flash. How likely is it that one might get Lymphedema from getting the bloodpressure done on the wrong arm? I was so exhausted and at the time nobody was with me to remind the nurse in the morning when I started treatment so she made a mistake and took the bloodpressure on right arm, which is the wrong arm. I have a bit of tingling in my anderarm. What do you think... should I worry ? How fast does lymphedema develop? I had sentinel node biopsy with the mastectomy. Should I be worried?
-
Flash-- In case you are reading my earlier post I have an update: I called my doctor today. (I am glad that at last I have one who actually returns my calls and cares.) And she said I don't need to worry about my arm on which I had my sentinel node biopsy and had my blood pressure checked yesterday by mistake. She said I did not have too many nodes removed, so I should stop worrying about the tingling. But try to be careful in the future. I guess I need one of those medical bracelets so I remind myself. Anyway, by the afternoon the tingling sort of faded out. I am very glad to have an oncologist at last who finally cares.
-
Just stopping by to say hi, still working like a maniac with very little time to log on. Personal life a mess, v good friend with lymphoma had chemo fail, then another type of much heavier chemo, which she found out yesterday also failed. Now they want her to try yet another chemo and she's not sure she wants to. I'm just really upset. This is the woman who could really use a giraffe scarf!
All other sorts of personal life stuff in the shitter too....ugh.
So it was good to get together and hang out for awhile! Love to everyone.....
How about a picnic in Central Park if the weather is warm enough? I need to dream....
Cookie, you came in from upstate? Oy. Good to see you though, it's been awhile.
Sorry you couldn't make it, Tweety. Miss you.
Thanks for your generosity, Flash! And Kitchen for schlepping to Bensonhurst for St Agatha...
Great to meet you City and Survivor! (ugh...gotta go to work now....)
-
Just dropping by to say I am so sorry I did not make it to the city for our outing, I hope to make the next one. I was supposed to be back in NY on Friday night and did not get in until late Saturday. Glad to see that everyone had a great time.
-
survivor- one time probably wouldn't do anything. It's more a case of they would like you to be cautious and careful. We just don't know enough about LE. Yes, your doc is right, the fewer nodes removed, the lower the chance of LE but it is still not zero. On the other hand, there are people who get LE who haven't even had any surgery. again, just do the best you can.
Hugs to all, hope everyone had a good weekend. Can't wait to see you all again. Love the idea of the park but how about that one when we know its really going to be good weather. Does the met still do their free wednesdays? Do we want to meet there? could be kind of fun to hang out by the temple of dender(?) and look out over central park. or what about the sony museum that's free?
-
Hello,
Is it ok if I joined this group? I would love to meet up with others in the city sometime.
I just finished chemo 2.5 weeks ago and am looking forward to life beyond chemo.
Barbara
-
Hi Barbara,
Welcome to the NY group. It is very nice that you joined us. We'll be meeting soon again. Right Flash? Sorry that you missed our last, very recent meeting, b/c it was fun and had great talks, yummy foods and St Agatha's cakes. But next time I hope you will be there, too.
Survivorwoman
-
so do we do a weekend again or do we do a weekday this time?
-
I am still having major post-chemo side-effect issues. I guess, I should have expected it to be this bad or the worst of all 6 chemos. I hope to be better in a couple of weeks so that I can also be actively planning our next meeting. I really enjoyed our last one. I keep thinking of that while I am undergoing this recovery period.
-
Sony museum - I photographed that when it was new, don't think there's really a place to hang out in there. There IS an enclosed public plaza just behind the Sony building near the entrance to the museum (a city tax abatement deal) which was free and had tables. There was a food concession in there at one time....we'd have to check and make sure that it still exists! And that there aren't still lots of homeless people hanging out.
Met museum is pricey.
Friend with lymphoma is now doing third type of chemo in a year. Unless there's a miracle and this one works, it's not a question of whether she'll die - but when. Very very upsetting. I hate cancer.
Off to work.....

Obika Mozzarella Bar590 Madison Avenue ManhattanNew York City, NY 10022212-355-2217I think this is in the sony atrium????This is shaping up to be a crazy month for me. -
Sony's at 550 Madison. Mozzarella bar is probably on the next block.
-
yeah met museum is pricey, that's why I was thinking on their free day which I believe is Wednesday? They may not be open late enough. could always hit the lemongrass grill again but I'd rather somwhere diff. anyone have ideas?
flash
-
the Met is pricey, but it's also pay-what-you-want. If you feel OK, you can give them $3 for admission. Or $1. I love the Met - so many peaceful and beautiful places to hang.
Katia: Congratulations on finishing chemo! That is awesome and great. Hope side effects calm down asap and let you alone!
Sweaty: I love the picnic idea. I'll be working too for a few months starting Monday, so weekends will be better for me.
Edited to say: Sweaty, I'm really sorry your friend is having such a rough course.
-
so maybe a picnic in central park or dare we be different and maybe picnic up at the cloisters????
-
Turning Leaf and Cloisters...Turning Leaf is so cool...it's in an old lodge in the park....great food, really unique!!!!
-
Thank you ladies for thinking of me. I am still trying to combat the side effects of chemo. But the good news is that I am almost two weeks post chemo. Though, I sleep a lot and move very slowly, I am getting a bit better day by day. Hopefully, the diarreah will subside, too. I am always hungry. I guess that is a good sign, right? You ladies decide where we should go the next time. For me, like the last time, Saturday would be the best. On Sundays I still go to "You Can Thrive" where I get a charity acupuncture that seems to help with stiffness and other things. It is up to you all where we should go. My mind is very childlike right now. I can't decide. Love you all!
-
Survivor, it takes a while for the chemo to be out of your system. The half life is months for some of them. don't beat yourself up because things aren't good yet. They will very subtley until one day you will suddenly realize it is better. Is very, very gradual.
Okay, so it needs to be a saturday. So do we have a consenus on where??? I'll start being pretty busy because of kids sports stuff but I will come into nyc if I can. Anyone? should we do turning leaf? (i've never been there but sounds intriguing.
