Ok, so today I was in a bad car accident.  It must have literally scared the poo out of me because I was in the bathroom all afternoon.  I decided to weigh myself and was back down to 153....two pounds lighter!  Does that count for losing weight still?  If so, I get to add one more point.

    ((((((((((Ainm)))))))))))))

Be kind to yourself. Be very, very, very kind to yourself. You are doing heroic work in caring for your mom in the midst of everything else. I am so inspired by your hardwork. Be kind.

    ((((((((((PaulaBCinColorado))))))))))))))))))

Thank goodness you're OK. That's an extreme manner to lose a couple of pounds. I think ya get a point for keeping body and soul together.

+++++Today was a new milestone for me, LABBIES.

I walked 5 miles on the treadmill (that's the first, first) in 73 minutes!!!! That means I kept up the pace of just a tad over 4 MPH for that length of time. The machine said that meant I'd burned 483 calories.

    Personal milestone moment.

When I started walking an hour I had the machine on 2.8 MPH.

I think it's so awesome to see individuals raising their personal 'bar.'

NativeMainer you had a lot of exercise points this week.

Brilliant news to hear cholesterol going down yada yada -- in a measurable manner!!!

    YEAH TEAM ELAB!!!!!

Several people mentioned needing some 'new' inspiration...........

We are nearing the one year anniversary of ELAB!!!

Make that milestone a personal one.

Mum is getting ready for a wedding.

Use her date as a milestone.

We're headed to hubby's high school reunion....... you're welcome to borrow that incentive.

    +++++++++++

I've really come to 'believe' in the extra credit point as making a real difference for me. It really makes me focus on ONE thing that I can identify and change/modify/improve.

I challenge the entire LAB to earn that extra point this week!!!

    Move, MOVE, MOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

{{Ainm}} I have on-hand some snacks that are low-cal but crunchy (for example celery sticks and whole wheat Goldfish snack crackers) for when it gets like that for me.  Fresh fruit is good too.  You will not hurt yourself with two apples and then a pear, like you would with two Snickers bars and a chocolate eclair.  I like sugar-free jello for something sweet and low-cal.  And of course, drink some water to fill you up.  And exercise, which I know you do.

Hope it's better today.  I am housebound due to freezing rain making the roads dangerous.  Went shopping yesterday so the pantry and refrigerator are full of good things to eat.  I try not to buy junk but somehow it manages to find its way in, so I stock up on tasty healthy options for distraction!

Is it possible drinking too much water will show as weight gain.

I do drink about 4x16=64 oz of water (or little less) + lots of fruits.

    Maybe too much sugar???????????

BcIncolorado.... hope you're doing OK. Did you get checked out for any "unknown" injuries? (((hugs)))

Ainm, some days are just harder than others... be kind to yourself and know you've done such a wonderful job of exercising and losing so much weight. I usually have to take myself out of the house when I get in the eating mood. I also find I really can't have any amounts of chocolate in the house. If I start I want to finish the whole package.... usually chocolate covered almonds. UGH. Put on your skinny jeans and head outside, don't know the weather where you are but bundle up if you have to. Remember we've all probably been in your shoes - Oh, I really like salty potato chips too.....

BC Incolorado - you poor thing.  I hope you were not injured, any kind of an accident can be really stressful ((((((((HUGS))))))

Still not doing too well - maybe I'll manage a fresh start tomorrow.  I've been very tied down in the house with Mum this past week - didn't manage to get out much without her so not many walks but I hope I'll manage a few more walks this week if only to clear my head.  Before Mum moved in it was just DH and myself most of the time and I just didn't buy the 'junk' but mum loves her biscuits, sweets and cake and I can't deny her them and when people visit her thye bring that kind of stuff as gifts and I have to have something in the cupboard to serve with the obligitory cup of tea.  And lately I just haven't been able to resist and once I start down that track I'm adding cheese, bread etc to the list!!! Oh and Samsue I eat potato chips too (low fat of course and referred to as crisps here!!).  I have the 'good snacks' for myself but I'm just bypassing them lately - absolutely no will power and no self discipline and I really want to be in control of my weight before I commit to reconstructive surgery this summer.  Thank you all for your support - I really need it and I hope I have been of some support to some of you at some stage in this journey of ours.  There is nothing like knowing I have a support net like you ladies.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    bsincolorado,

So GLAD to hear that you weren't hurt!!!

Car accidents, even minor ones, can be very scary.  When it's a major one, it's down right terrifying!

A couple of years ago, my husband hit a deer when he and my son were on their way back from a football game!  The damage to the car was unbelievable (it was totaled) and my son, I think to this day, is a little leary of driving at night!!

    Thinking of you!

Happy 50th Bookart!  So far it isn't a bad club to be in (of course I've only been in it for a few months).

BC of colorado, I'm so sorry to hear you were in an accident.  Hope everyone is ok.

Sorry I didn't post our summary yesterday, I was having a grand time flying (as Faithie knows via facebook).  If anyone wants to facebook with me, let me know.

Here is our team totals (I'll post everyone's weight next week, too afraid I'll lose my post if I check now)

    Suzette - 24

    BCColorado - 17

    Val - 20.5

    Zogo - 14

Rockin' Robins, we did better at a team this week than last week.  Our total this week was 75.5.  Great job.  Some do well one week and others pick up the next week, we're doing great!

Ainm-I second the suggestion to be kind to yourself! Is there anything you can do in your Mom's home to exercise? Is there a flight of stairs you can go up and down a few times? Can you use canned goods to do arm exercises while waiting for the tea water to boil? Get yourself a stopwatch, keep it handy and click it on whenever you do something "exercisey" you'll be surprised how quickly the minute or two here and there adds up!

Bookart-Happy B-day! I strongly recommend getting an AARP membership. It continues to surprise me how many places have discounts. Some are as high as 20%! This is definitely a perk of aging to take advantage of!

Faith-congrats on the 4 MPH milestone! Good for you!

Seyla-too much water being retained does show as weight gain, but for people without heart disease the recommendation to prevent water retention is to drink more water and watch the sodium intake. Don't make the mistake of thinking of only salt, Americans get more sodium from prepared foods than we add at the table. If your sodium intake is on the high side (above 2300mg or 2.3 grams) of sodium a day you may want to try adding another 16 ounces of water a day to help flush it out.

NM...I watch my salt intake except when gold fish or chips are in my mouth.

BP was mildly high years ago and i was put on medication and its always normal even on the low side. I hardly get prepared food maybe slice of pizza or Chinese food.

    Missed Friday...again!  Sorry!

We were out all day long.  Went to see my breast surgeon at 8:30am...and we were on the go till night 2am!! That included a ton of walking!! The only bad part was we ate pizza out with friends that night!

My weight stayed the same as the last 2 weeks..161.  I worked out alot though! Walked/ran. Even got up at 2:30am to walk/run!  I am doing the same tomorrow!  It seems to be the best for me. I start work at 5am.

Ran on the treadmill yesterday and worked out in Tom's basement with free weights and machines....FELT AWESOME!!!!!!!! I used to be addicted to the gym and weight training and running...this felt so familiar and I loved the high I got!! Back for more this week!!

    Faith...congrats on your low weight!!!

    xoxo.....Lisa!

Thanks, everyone, for the B-day wishes!  Partner and I drove to a little west TX town to see a friend's art exhibit open - they had delicious munchies - and a lot were low-cal!  I did pretty well except for one very thin slice of chocolate mousse.  We spent the night in a little cottage, had breakfast with friends - greek yogurt, fresh fruit, eggs and (the bad) 3 slices of bacon.  Nice time.

Personally, I'm addicted to chips - that's as big a downfall for me as candy; I can't eat cookies or cakes or donuts or any pastries, so those aren't a problem (no biscuits for me, Ainm!).  Chips and salsa, with an occasional binge of potato chips, and either hard candy or chocolate - that's my bugaboo.  I'm cutting way back, so I am doing better.  And no, I haven't found that crunchy celery dipped in salsa substitutes very well, so I am concentrating on moderation rather than substitution.  But I did find that I could add salsa to my meal in some way, and I had less craving for the chips.  Not none, but less.  Spicy V-8 helps, too.

BC - how scary for you!  I'm so sorry to hear of your car trauma - rough even if you have no injuries.

Debbie!  TWO WEEKS IN EUROPE?!  WOOHOO!  Keep that energy up and you'll burn off all those yummy meals!

NM - I have my application for AARP, I just have to fill it out.  I'm looking forward to getting my first discounts!

BTW, my friend with the art show also just turned 50, runs marathons, weighs the same as in high school (but works hard at it) and has a boyfriend who adores her and just happens to be 20 years younger.  This was an unathletic nerd girl who decided she didn't want to have her mother's butt all her life and did something about it.  She also has some severe health issues, but doesn't let them stop her.  Amazing.  It can be done.

    Birdies...........

It's nearly time for our 100 page party!!!!

The sun is shining and I'm smiling ear-to-ear!!!!!

What sensible things can we serve for such an amazing occasion??

Last night I posted a story to my blog that has nothing to do with calories or exercise or anything remotely dealing with extra credit points, but it's about heroes.....

Every member of the ELAB is a hero in my eyes.

I think you'd appreciate reading what happened:

It is amazing. I was there & I can't quite believe it!

    Nearly to the airport.

Headed on 12 day 'tourr' of delight. Numerous school visits, community concerts, teacher training, and a Children's Literature conference, before concluding with a keynote in wouthern FL.

This is the most ambitious I have attempted since my BILAT & complications a year ago.
