samsue was lurking here when I read about it on another thread. Your question about keeping up with calories. If you go to livestrong.com it is free and you can put in what you eat, keep up with your exercise and also it will calculate your calorie needs for how much what you want to loose per week. If you use the app on your iphone is is $2.99 for their app but the computer version is free. I used it when I started exercising and losing weight. I lost 18lbs and it really helped me with portion control.
-
Samsue, I use a free website called fitday.com You can keep track of weight, activites, food and calories, body measurements, journal moods etc. It will give you reports on percentage of carbs/fat/protein and calories burned based on activities. I like the weight graph (only when it goes down though!).
Hope that helps....
-
http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/planner/ has something like this, also - it lets you do menu planning based on caloric intake. It takes a lot of time to figure it out at first, though. I never have enough time to do it.

I've been working at improving my diet. Since I've often been known to go fore more than a week without fruits and veggies except potatoes and maybe an onion or two, I have been concentrating on eating more of each. I'm still a long way from a healthy diet still but I've improved at least a little each day.
Had a banana this morning. Today's lunch was veggie soup, rice, baked chicken with steamed carrots (both orange and yellow) and salad. Supper is chicken pot pie. Will be having fruit for dessert and probably ice cream for evening snack.
-
Suzette, I love the crane photo! How neat that they live in your yard!
I thought I would just write down each day my exercize and then report it at one time on Friday. I thought that might be easier than team leaders trying to track each day. I put a sheet of notebook paper by the phone and just kept track.
Today I actually ate breakfast before I left for work (shredded wheat with 2% milk), had 1/2 can veggie soup for lunch with a few grapes, and for dinner ate pork loin with a little rice.
-
Ugh! I am going to fail on portion control...
Tonight I had 1/4 cup diced onion, 1 roma tomato diced and 2 cups fresh chopped spinach lightly sauted in 1 tspn butter. 2 eggs, scrambled and 1/2 an avacodo sliced with fresh parmesan cheese sprinkled over everything.
I was thinking 'wow pretty healthy' now not so sure...
Bad part is I now want something sweet...
-
I try to keep a bag of chocolate chips in the freezer. When I absolutely have to have chocolate and have nothing at home, I can eat about 5 (slowly let them melt in your mouth) and be satisfied.
-
Here's a random thought, Meecie.
How about simplifying your life?
How about deleting the alphabetical listing of names & individual weights at the very top of the thread..... and just list individual weights under the team's listing.
That will shorten the header..... possibly allowing the listing of the point system??
Just thinking out loud.
Congrats to all making behavioral changes.
Wow, Chabba that's some serious difference you're creating!! Congrats.
I'm increasing my ligquid intake and realize that I'm none to fond of the extra potty stops in my day. LOL. Hopefully my body will cath on in a few more days???
Whoohoooo birdies!!
Hoping all get a good night sleep tonight. I remember the study that connected weight loss with sound sleep. I know for many at BCO a good/solid night's sleep is a distant memory. There's supposedly good science connecting good sleep habits with weight maintenance/loss.
-
O2B,
First off that sounds delicious!! Second, I don't see anything wrong with that as a meal! You have a nice amount of veg there, protein from the eggs and good fats with the avocado. Not to mention, they just taste so darn good!
All things in moderation!!!
I must have a sweet after a meal! A Hershey kiss is my friend! Delicious and perfectly portion controlled!!
-
Two other thoughts for fending off that end-of-the-evening desire for something sweet.
#1 Distract by chewing some gum.
#2 Brush your teeth for the night. That is a useful signal that eating is done for the day.
-
ok i think im getting it.i get 1 point a week because im in active treatment right????
i do daily exercise (20 min. 7 days a week)
i am trying to gain weight so i east as healthy as i can but i do eat fattening foods.ha.

do i get an extra point for sat and sun as i went to drs then too.?????
-
bcincolorado,
Better idea with the chocolate chips! I guess maybe a Hershey kiss could be considered one big ol' chip! lol
-
-
Good idea, Faithie. I am turning in so I will work on it in the morning.
-
Michelle - all of that is fine but you can make it healthier with substituting two things:
Instead of butter use Extra Virgin Olive Oil - soooo healthy! And it tastes just about the same, honestly.
For the eggs - either do egg whites (which actually doesn't taste the same but is so much healthier) or egg beaters.
Those two things will make a huge difference!
So what possessed me to have a donut this morning when I was getting my coffee? I've been so good. Herein lies the problem. Willpower. Got none.
-
Okay, working on the header. The information is there, just got to make it look nice now.
-
Good Morning All,
Similar to this girl...
I've got my shower in, make-up on, hair done... Ready to get going for the day!
Goooooo Cranes!
-
The header looks nice, Meece!
-
Meece - I am sure I missed something but what is the number in ( ) after names and weight?
-
Oh my gosh...you guys have a good thread here. Not sure If I should be here making you all look at a picture of a cookie.
I have lost a few pounds over the past few weeks. Exercise, more veggies, fewer you-know-whats.
My big project tho is lowering my sodium. I am hoping it will help with LE. Since I have started checking for sodium I am shocked at how much hidden sodium there is in some not-salty foods.
Anyhow....good going all!
-
raincitygirl,
I think the numbers in the parenthesis is the number of pounds you would like to lose and are listed if you revealed that information. At least that's what I think the (20) after my name is!
-
Hi birdies....sorry...I have been MIA!!!
busy, crazy...and more...
I know I have fallen "off the wagon" so to speak. there are days I do really well....and then other days...horrible. It's not even that I eat much...but that I don't eat at all. So I am telling my body...STORE MY FAT!!
I am going to try again. I will have to weigh myself and post it.
Faith...I did get your pm..and happy to be on your team.
Back to work...flight delays, cancellations...stressfull..and then I get hungry! lol
xoxo

Thanks Shelly and Zogo for the information about the free calorie counting websites. I'll check them out.
Even though I wasn't planning on working out last night - my conscience got the best of me. I was complaining of an earache, which is usually from the weather changing. Anyway I didn't want to do anything strenuous, so I did yoga. Boy did I feel better after. Strange isn't it.... how we/I can talk myself out of exercise.
Making sure I get the water in for the day buy starting with a full glass when I get out of bed. I have to take meds anyway so I just drink the whole glass.... who would have thought it could be that easy? And, I found some crystallised lemon in packets at Whole Foods. They're natural, nothing added - I put them in my afternoon water bottle for a change of taste.
-
Have a head cold and cough, so one more day not going to the gym and being a couch potato (stayed at work even when my boss tried to send me home - I just warned everyone away and kept my germs to myself) I'm making chicken soup for what ails you for dinner. My stepson followed instructions to make an easy quiche for everyone else's dinner. Lots of veggies in my soup...best I can do - am pushing water, too.
-
Feel better bookart. I love homemade soup - beats quiche IMO. Think I'm going to be snowed in tomorrow so probably will make a pot of soup when I come in from shoveling in the morning.
-
Im also making chicken soup. For tomorrow.
I love soup. Got some escarole and will chop that in, cupful of Orzo and some carrots.
Grated parmesan cheese and half of a fresh lemon.
Yummy

I use Pam instead of any oil when cooking eggs of any kind. And of course no salt.
For those trying to cut down on sodium, we stepped up the use of pepper quite a bit when we started to cut out salt.
DH loves spicy food too. We found that Cholula brand hot sauce has very little sodium (comparatively). We actually buy it on-line in 1/2 gallon jugs (4 at a time)!
-
Meece...I keep forgetting to tell you how organized you are.
The new header is short and clear.
I really like the point subjects.
Thanks for your time.
HUGS
-
MEECIE!!!
The whole new look is indeed awesome!
Sleep well birdies!
Feel better those feeling under the weather -- and for those who are actually "under the weather" please be careful in the real conditions.

Thank you for the compliments.
I exercised my 30 minutes, and am feeling like I can go longer now. Burned 160 calories. Wii Active has a journaling section where you can add other activities you did the day before. If it is any way accurate, Monday I burned oer 900 calories with exercise, housework, walking, and yard work. It is encouraging. Three days with no sugar swwetened or carbonated drinks.
