It seems to be the consensus that you should drink 8 - 8oz glasses of water a day. I don't do it. What do you think is the right amount?
-
I exercised my legs and my shoulders while i was in the showere.
Was thinking to jump few times but didnt want to end up in the basement.
-
Jumping in the shower would not give you any points, Seyla!
-
If I were to drink that much water during the day the only exercise I would get would be running to the bathroom! I can't do it - especially toward early evening because then I will be up during the night (I sound like a baby!).
Exercised today for 45 minutes - it felt great. Need to do it every day though.
Feeling a little nausea - I know this isn't a side effect of radiation, but it's my 5th treatment and I have felt nausea since the 2nd one. Good news about that is that I'm not eating as much...
-
I am thinking half that amount of water may be my goal, but definitely not anytime soon. I'll have to work up to it.
Good luck with rads, Oakley. You can do it!!!
-
I'm definitely running to the bathroom more with the increased water.
Time to stock up on toilet paper!!
-
I still haven't got that much of an increase yet.
-
Meece,
Very interesting question. I guess I was always under the assumption that it was 8 x 8 oz per day but when I goggled it just now, it seems like some places say yes and others say that's a myth.
This one from Mayo Clinic seems to support the 64 oz thing:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/water/NU00283
Snopes.com, on the other hand, brands it false and a myth:
http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp
Seems like the amount also isn't one size fits all. It really depends on how active you are, how hot it is where you live, even what altitude you are at (who knew??). I know I was really surprised at how hard it was to drink 64 oz of water yesterday! Maybe set a minimum amount and, you get a point for reaching the minimum. If people want/need to drink more than that they can but, no extra points.
I will go with whatever you decide!
I have lost track a bit of what we are supposed to keep track of (how's that for a bad start?!) I looked back and saw NativeMainer posted a list back on page 70. Is that still correct?
-
Thanks Meece.
There's a little smiley face sticker like that on the rads machine that is staring me in the face. I can do it!
-
I'll check
-
oakley,
I wouldn't be so sure that it isn't from the radiation even though they will tell you it's not. I also had nausea early on in rads but, it did did clear up and wasn't a problem around week 2.
Hope the same is true for you!
-
Thank you Seaside! It would be nice if it started to subside soon. I know this isn't a radiation therapy thread, but since I was looking to find info on the nausea other things came up, like root canals and mercury fillings being the cause of cancer and tooth decay from rads...wow - they never tell you that stuff (if it's true)!

-
Thanks Meece!
I'll write that down in my journal so I don't forget it AGAIN!
Once we get everything figured out, are you going to add it to the header? If you are worried about the length of the header, you could just post the final list and then put what page it's on in the header.
Just a thought!
-
That's a plan, Seaside.
-
BTW - one summer when I was working outside in Texas heat, and pushing water, I started having urinary problems. My doctor said I was too alkaline - I didn't have any pee in my pee! That was me at 64oz per day, doing physical work in the heat, so I do about 32 - 40 oz max these days.
-
You do have to watch out that you are getting electrolytes when you are drinking that much water. You can get very ill from it.
-
I think 32 oz is a nice number for water intake... It's a healthy amount and more doable then 64 oz which dependent on activity levels and climate can be too much... Just my 2 cents worth
I drank 56 oz straight h2o today...think I'll have some Gatorade with dinner to boost electrolytes this evening.
Still puffy in arms and truc and now my hand is hurting (slightly puffy) I am not happy if this means the LE is now in my hand
Tomorrow night I have 2 hours of line dancing - I love line dancing! I just wish it happened more then once a year...
-
O2B,
Sorry to hear of your LE flare-up!
It truly does stink when something like that happens when you are doing your best to do ALL the RIGHT things! Hope it's short-lived and you feel better soon!
Boy, between you and Faithandfifty, and all that line dancing I better shake a leg!!
-
Seaside it works better if you shake BOTH legs
-
Everyone has been really motivational today. I guess I need to do some exercise even though my ear hurts (could be the weather change). UGH. We need points for team roadrunners!
Does anyone have a good exercise for the upper body that doesn't over-do the lymph? I do go to the gym but have a hard time figuring which piece of equipment I can use that will help me build the back and shoulder muscles without causing a problem. When this membership is up, I want a WII too!
I also have a hard time getting the water in. I work were it's hard to leave my post and go to the ladies. I always have to have someone spell me. So, if I drink to much, I really need those depends!
-
O2B,
Maybe THAT'S where I've been going wrong!
Edited to add: If I'm going to be a CRANE I better work on getting those lovely, thin legs! And that's going to involve shakin' them both!!
-
You put your right leg in: you put your right leg out: you put your right leg in and shake it all about, do the hokey pokey and turn yourself around that's what it's all about!!! Boy I'm OLD.
-
I did the treadmill today and think I probably need to look at getting some different shoes for walking!
Do any of you who do a lot of walking have a favorite type/brand of shoe that works well for you?
-
I'm home, had a 2 hr nap but still feel groggy. He found a polyp near the cecum, removed it and marked that area with a clip. I have to call Wednesday to get results, I think he said it was ok.
-
deborye,
I think we ALL have done the hokey pokey a time or two...
I remember when, way back in the day, THAT was our gym class...lol
Edited to add: My husband had his first colonoscopy this year and they did find a polyp. It was removed and declared benign! Hope the same is true for you!

Meece, I wonder if the moderators could have a site here at BC.org that we could tally our calories we eat every day. There are websites out there but they charge to do this. I would like to put what I eat into the computer and have it tell me what the total consumption is. I looked thru one of the diet books and it's frustrating trying to figure the amounts out. It took me so long flipping thru all the pages. Perhaps I'm just lazy but it sure would be helpful to have it here.
If anyone knows of a website that does this for free, let me know. Thanks!

Hello Robins! We have been surviving our winter storm here and trying to stay warm. We have ice and snow. Not a fun scenario. LOL! We can't get out of our driveway and are expecting possibly more sleet, freezing rain and snow flurries tonight. It is not expected to get out of the 20s all week. We live in the country so there is no trucks or scrapers coming down our roads. I played outside in the snow with my family today for bout an hour... got plenty of exercise and cold sweat. Trying to drink the 32 oz of water (hard for me cause I don't love water... I'll admit it) and get in the rest in low cal, sugar free drinks. Did some dishes and laundry today, that's still about all I can do. Really wish I could do more exercising.
Keep up the good work!!
For those of you in GA, TN, SC that just got the snow storm we had stay warm and safe. Sheila I think I read it is headed your way and will be like the blizzard that came the week before New Years... take care and be safe.

Got in at least 32 oz today. I will make that my daily minimum but Ithink I can probably push it up to 48 ozx with some of that being juice and tonic water (for the quinine).
-
When you figure your water consumption remember foods, especially fruits and veggies, contain water.
