The anonymity of the persons pushing the Report this Post button is really at the heart of the matter here, and has been a continuing problem for several years.  If those pushing the button with malice were exposed to the deletee and to every other poster on the thread, I truly doubt we would be having this discussion....again and again....

If we are voting, I vote yes to publish the deleters' names.

I agree. I think the deleter should be revealed and her reason for reporting the post given as well.

I have no problem with names being listed as the deleters.  I don't think the majority of us do.  Most of us will "report" the spam and that's it.  I agree with Linda .. it's the anonymity that allows people to "report this post" just for not liking the person making the post, rather than if the post broke any rules.

I wish there was a way to have this programmed into the current software.

    Bren

EDITED:  I did report a post a few months ago, and quickly posted on the thread and the reasons why I reported the post.

Ladies:  It dawned on me that whether we ever find the deleters, it is up to us to monitor our own group and make sure outsiders are not purposely trying to get us to do or say things that will cause it to be deleted again.  There is an old saying that I think is important for us to remember every time we post and it bears well at this time:

"Sooner or later you have to join the side you're on"

This saying may not mean much to many of you but to those who do not wish us well with this group, I think it will mean a lot.  In other words "You've been MADE!"  Find your fun some place else!

    Have a great day, ladies.

To Melissa:   I do hope you have taken the time to see what is really going on here and before you delete or ban me, in case you suddenly get that "delete" button pounced on by certain posters, at least, give me a chance to explain the reason for my post. Thank you so much.

It is not necessarily outsiders causing the problems.

Deleters are a kind of anonymous lynch mob. They would be less likely to create deletions if we knew who they were.

BCO must change the software now that they have been made aware of the problem. There could be legal repercussions for knowingly letting a few deleting thugs cause emotional distress on the message board.

I would like to hear a progress report from Melissa on the suggestions to remove anonymous reportings. Is your program manager at work changing this function?

Tho, I agree with Medgirl that the report function is stupid anyway and spam alert would be better.

enjoyful:  I'm glad you enjoyed my "fried chicken" reply.  However I think I am changing to fried pork chops now!

As for the saying, I think it is best not to name names unless it is done privately.  We just have a right to know who wishes us well and who doesn't.  Those who are involved with that particular saying know who they are and I think they need to follow what it suggests.  One can't swim "up river and down" at the same time.

Did you mean "negative" or "passionate."  I am very passionate about the way I believe.

Huh?  Why bring Sherri into these comments?    I don't believe she's posted anything for some time.  I'm trying to figure out how Sherri got tied into the above quote by Medigal.

Now I'm off to watch the swearing in of Boehner.  I'm sure he'll cry.

Yup.  Any 5 people (or one person with 5 usernames).  That's what "Community" refers to.

Medigal, you are SOOOOOOOOO right on!

(BTW, Heidi: love your location and tagline!!)

Edited to clairfy that I was responding to Heidi's post on the previous page.

Heidi .. when it says "deleted by the community" that means that a minimum of five individuals clicked on the "report this post" button.  They can "report this post" for any reason they want the way things are set up right now.  So lots of posts that say "deleted by the community" could have been made by individuals who just don't like the poster or disagree with what the poster wrote.

    I hope this helps,

    Bren

This word "negativity" is a term used to dismiss legitamate concerns we have about 5 usernames being able to shut down our communication. I cringe whenever I see it used.

I'm only on a couple of discussion boards besides this one, and they both signal who is posting, who is deleting, who dislikes/likes a post etc.  I'm wondering what everyone else's experiences are.  Care to share?

I think we should not post another persons name in connection with a response unless we are SURE that our reference is correct.  That also caused issues on the other thread.

I am totally confused.  What are you guys trying to say.  Enjoyful, you took out Sherri's name.  Why?  I don't think it should have been there if the first place, but I quite confused about why you named her connection to Medigal's quote...which I still don't understand, but then I am dense.

Sherri is a good friend of mine and the sweetest lady.  Yeah, she may have some strong opinions that she posts elsewhere, but most of the time we do those things in fun.  Just like anyone else who has a different philosophy on who is running our country.  As long as we don't say those naught things HERE, I see no harm.  It's when you decide to bring words and names BACK here is where the harm is done.

Thank you PIP for your suggestion.

Just wanted to say also, that Sherri does great charitable work, has a foster baby and loves him dearly, works at the food pantry, works with the homeless and who knows whatever else...oh is greatly involved in politics in her state.  So, because she says something you may not like doesn't mean she's done anything wrong.  Oh, and when's the last time she posted here?  On this thread or the other one that was deleted or the new one?

    Shirley,

I took out the name in the spirit of let's-move-past-all-the-ugliness, as suggested by Medigal and PIP.  They are right, I was wrong.  And since I cannot say why I mentioned the name without bringing up that which was said elsewhere, I'll not answer your question.

Yes, I'm sure that person does all kinds of wonderful things, as we ALL do.  However, things said here and other places make it very clear how you (the generic, not specific, "you") think about people who lean left.  And people don't have to post here to make their influence felt.

In this world, good people do bad things, and bad people do good things.  Nothing is ever black & white.

And just to make myself clear, I count myself among the "good person who does bad things" group.

I'm not deleting mine, since it answers the previous poster's concerns, even though that post was deleted.

Hate to change the topic but PELOSI is OUT!   Now if she will just quit hogging the camera and give the gavel to Boehner before he really has a crying fit!  Gripes!  She admitted to being Italian!!  I have been sending negative letters to Washington about mia familia!  And I would do it again when it comes to her!  I am soooooo glad she is voted out.  I will take Boehner and his tears any day rather than watch that gavel wheeling woman dictate to those men.  I do hope the best for Speaker Boehner.  If nothing else, he is so much easier on the eyes than Pelosi.

Shirley:  Why so many posts deleted by yourself?  I would have thought you would have a lot to share with us today since we have a new Speaker of the House. I may not always agree with you but I enjoy hearing other's opinions on a political issue.  I hope you will keep sharing.

Enjoyful:  unless we have arrived at Sainthood, I think we all can consider ourselves "good people who do bad things "sometimes".  I like that saying because it speaks to our humanity and the fact that we are not perfect creatures.  I thank you and appreciate your maturity in deleting the "name" from an earlier post.  The people I am concerned about know who they are and even better, "I" now know who they are and that is all that is important in this issue in my concern.  We must all now prove we "can" save this thread and keep the peace on it.  Thanks!

Enjoyful:  My "gifts" don't give me the power to "poof" out any Speaker you may not want.  If it did, Pelosi would have been "poofed" years ago.  I was never fond of her and am so glad she is gone!!!  Just concentrate on his handsome face and forget about a few tears.  He has a nice wife to wipe them away.  "I" would love to have that job!Wink
