Thanks Melissa .. I'm so glad to hear this!!!
Bren

Bren - what shall we call the new thread?
-
How about "Breaking Up is Hard to Do"
-
I remember a while back there was discussion that spammers would retaliate if they knew who had reported their posts. I try to always remember to post that I reported spam. No spammer has ever come after me - yet. That doesn't seem to be a valid concern.
-
Linda .. I like it .. should we put it in the "humor" forum!
-
Enjoyful: "Victory With Determination"! That's my choice because it not only covers Victory over our problems on this thread but Victory over fighting for survival with bc. This way it can be for healthcare and discussions of various topics. It also may stand out so others will pop in to see what really is going on and we can get new members. Just my idea. Waiting to hear all the other great ones. What is yours, Enjoyful, Blue, etc. etc.?
Just glad to see the day may be ending better than it started. I apologize to Melissa for thinking she was ignoring us and some of the harsh things I said. Just trying to get her attention in my particular way, I guess.

-
For a thread title, in keeping with the same era of Beatles' songs ("I Say Yes, You Say No..."), I was thinking of "Back in the USSR" -- but maybe that's a little too inflammatory
. Great song, though!
-
Ann .. bawhahahaha! Good one!

Thank you, Bren, for explaining the flaws in the automated system to me. My mouth is hanging open here.
When I saw the message "this message has been removed by the community" I thought my study had been reported and an moderator deleted the study. I naively took the word, "community," to mean actual community, not a software program. So I was banned by automation also.
Then when you wrote that theoretically, anyone with five logons could get my study or anybody's posts banned, I was really thrown. Essentially, any one person has the ability to "ban the books" or effect censorship on the BCO forums?
Thank you for enlightening me.
So, Melissa, you say this automated censorship program protects us from the occasional noni juice spammer that everybody laughs at anyway? In the spirit of constructive thinking, I'm glad to hear you will see the cost of saving us from noni juice includes a runaway train of censorship.

Twist and Shout? For the twisted knickers and shouting? ;-)
-
I think this is a good example of unintended consequences. Ah well all we can do is rebuild and hope it doesn't get torn down again
Sigh
-
I hope Blue will come back and start a new thread. She seemed to be able to get the attention of everyone .. and she was pretty darn fair as our fearless leader!
Bren
EDITED: Another gal contacted me and suggested we use the same name as the old one so everyone would be able to find it. I like that idea.
-
I vote yes to I say Yes but Blue has to start it!!
-
I'm with you Barbara .. let's wait for Blue to get us going again.
-
OK ladies...which forum do you want it in?
-
YAY BLUE!!! You pick and let us know!
-
True Blue!!! I vote for Blue too!
Enjoyful: "Twist and Shout" Are you giving me permission to go on a rampage again? I can shout too?
I think the Shouting is what got us fired yesterday. Maybe "Twist and Be Calm"
BTW, for anyone following the Holy Water "payment" thingee, I spoke to the Catholic Church and got my answer today. Too bad our thread was shut down. Now I can't tell "whoever" called me a liar if she was right or not. Just a hint: "We shall Prevail!"
-
Jane, I don't think I'm doing a great job explaining the "system". What happens is that when a post gets reported by enough community members (for whatever reason), the post is removed. Moderators and administrators can then go in and review all of the reported posts. If this happens to a few of your posts (that is, people reporting it, and it then being deleted), the member is "banned by the community". So, in essence, you are banned by community members reporting and thus deleting your posts.
Again, Moderators and administrators can over-rule this (which I did in your case).
Surprisingly, we have hundreds of spammers a week! That would be people selling things, inappropriate comments and photos (e.g. pornographic in nature), researchers, etc.. Thanks to this system these posts and thus posters are quickly removed.
On another note, the moment something gets negative on the new thread, please one of you contact me, and we'll work it out together. Let's not let us get pages of negativity going again
--- especially with politics. Thank you, thank you! I will not delete the thread again --- let's just work together. Thanks,
Melissa

You can do anything you want. You're okay in my book! I like the Twist and Be Calm....hahahaha.
-
Go blue!
-
Done guys!
-
Thanks Melissa .. I hope Blue will be our "go to" person with you. I know she's recovering from brain surgery, but she's the best we've got!
Bren

Well, seems you ladies have solved the problem with Melissa.
My thought is if anyone does not like the topic, please don't read. I don't read things I don't like. I'm not so comfortable being a stage IVer and still haven't really gotten involved. I check on a few people, but that's it. My end got stuck in the sand.
Now, to find the new topic.
-
Wait a minute. Is Melissa saying "the moment something gets negative on a new thread," to contact her. Is negativity one poster disagreeing with another? Has she met our beloved Shirley!? If we discuss a lot of different topics there can be a lot of disagreeing. Is that negativity in Melissa's interpretation? Are we all supposed to be a bunch of smiling positively thinking robots on here? I have issues I am very positive about but others I may think negative about. So???? Being negative is just a different opinion as long as we don't start tearing each other's hair out verbally.
-
Melissa, you and the other moderators have a pretty tough job trying to please everyone, especially the squeaky wheels. I hope you're paid enough to deal with all this craziness. Thanks for handling this issue with openness and willingness to compromise and listen. If that happened even a fraction of the time on some of these threads, you wouldn't be needed so much.

Suggestions...
Couldn't "Report this Post" be changed to "This is Spam"? That might deter people from using it as an "I don't like this opinion" button.
Maybe this feature could be disabled for anyone who hasn't chalked up their 50 posts. This might help if people are creating multiple user names in order to get posts deleted.
-
Obviously, there are some who have proven that self-regulation is not working very well. I really think that if certain members like to hit the report button, THEY should be restricted from posting. There are a lot of comments made that we all disagree with at one time or another but we don't automatically decide to censor each other.
Perhaps the deleters are also being dealt with. It would be nice to know if that was happening though.
-
Misfit .. Excellent suggestion!
I agree with you Pip.

Sorry to be negative, but as someone who had her post deleted, and watched other posts speaking out against hatred deleted, while the haters' posts remained untouched, it is very difficult to get too excited about any possibilites for a new thread, when the same system allows the abusers to go unpunished. The same individuals that got the Health Care thread and Blue's shut down are still out there ready to push the report button.
Melissa, I tried to send you a message today, but did not realize I was restricted to 64 characters. I have a lot to express, and my time is sometimes limited. Is there a snail mail address I can send a hard copy letter to?
-
misfit, I like the idea of not being able to use the report button until you have a certain amount of posts. Some of the people don't even try to hide the fact that they have several log in names.
