    Trust me I am enjoying the warm weather. The forecast just came out and we are going to have lows in the 20's and highs in the 50's Saturday and Sunday! Talk about extreme temp changes in a week.

    60° today, but tonight it is supposed to get down to 30° and chance of rain.  DS & DIL are driving in sometime in the wee hours tomorrow.  I hope they have a save and uneventful trip.

    I have to laugh.  I was at a store today looking for a little something for Baby-boo that said how much Grandma loves him/her.  When I asked the clerk, she said "perhaps the grandma could do something else for the baby, like write a letter and make a time capsule, because in 18 years you never know if the grandma will still be around."  First  I thought, "Do I look that close to being on my way out?"  Then I realized, she thought I was the mother to be!!!  What a frightening thought!

    Yes, it was a compliment.  Only I get to look in the magnifying mirror each morning and see each line that I have earned through my life.

    BUT

    I get the chance to see them, for that I am truly grateful.

    NM - I just love a storm raging outside but then, thinking about it, our storms are probably babies compared to yours.  Hope the power holds up.  We lose power quite often in storms as we are in a country area with overhead power lines - very frustrating.

    Beautiful clear day here - slight breeze to keep the temp just nice (73) and the humidity away.  77 predicted tomorrow then back to 73 or thereabouts for the next 3 days with possibility of showers.

    We do get the occasional really good storms up here in the winter. Yesterday was just windy.  It's always amusing to see it spitting snow in the sunshine, though!  70s sound absolutely wonderful compared to the 25 I've got right now!

    Currently 31, with a high expeced in the 50s today.  Tonight, down to the 20s.  At least the house should be nice and warm with all the baking going on.

    I just scolded my daughter for using the four letter "S" word on a holiday when she looked outside in disbelief and saw what is falling from the sky.  It was seventy degrees in the sun here on Monday. 

    At least this year, we don't have to drive in it.

    It is very cold here, but now sonw or precipitation.  We will be outdoors tomorrow and I hope in the sunshine.

    Snowing this morning, 26 degrees.  Supposed to warm up and change to sleet and freezing rain before turning to just rain.  And of course I have to go out and work today!  I always seem to sign up for extra work on days that turn out to be stormy!

    29 degrees here.  Again no precipitation, and it is supposed to be 59. What a bummer that you have to go out to work today, NM.  I love to be tucked safely at home by the fireplace on story days.

    I'm safely home, after a much longer day of work than I anticipated.  Longer in part due to the driving conditions, but more because of computer issues.  I was so glad to leave that little box of mayhem and annoyance in the office!!

    NM - Snow, sleet, freezing rain or rain - wow, what a choiceUndecided.  Keep safe and warm - glad you are having a relaxing social weekend - well, maybe not relaxing if you have to battle the elements when you are out.

    Meece - forgot to say 'wahoo for seven years' on the other thread. Hope it warms up for you as predicted.  You are in California right? I thought it was warm there all year round?

    79 here today - a glorious day - slight breeze - just how I like the weather to be.  Off for a walk with youngest DD shortly when it cools down a bit.

    Thank, reinnz. The worst of the weather was over by Friday afternoon, and I've got a good vehicle for Maine winter driving.  The 3 minute snow squall I drove home through last night was actually more dangerous--NO visability at times, and only a few feet at other times!  It's actually sunny today, and going to be back into the 40's over the next few days.  What little bit of snow we still have will melt off.  A little bit of snow does make it look more like Christmas, though.

    No, I don't know any area of CA that is warm all the time.  Maybe the San Diego area doesn't have the swings in temps as much, but don't quote me on that.

    We swing from the 20s in the winter to 110+ in the sumemrtime.  We are now entering fog season here.  It can get so bad that we have school delays because it is unsafe for the buses (and other vehicles on the road)

    Sort of gloomy here today. I will have to make several trips outside to my "holiday storage building" where my Christmas decs are.  I put a few up yesterday. But will at least try to put up my "wine tree" today.

    NM - can you describe a snow squall for me? Sounds scary - I get angsty if I have to drive in fog with about 20 feet visibility.

    Meece - just goes to show that the reality of places can be very different from our precieved idea.  I guess I was really thinking about Southern California when I asked if it was always warm.  You have a continential climate and so your temperatures will be more extreme than ours - we are kept a lot more moderate by being surrounded by the sea. 

    Light drizzle most of yesterday and HUMID -ugh.  Played 4 hours of tennis in it and I was shattered last night.  55-72 our temp range at the moment.

    A snow squall is a short but intense snow storm with stong winds. "Squall" is a maritime term for a short but intense storm, usually with a considerable amount of wind.  A rain squall has wind and rain, a snow squall has snow and wind.  The snow is often in very large flakes during a snow squall, and fall heavily, making it very hard to see very far ahead of you.  The good thing about a sqall is that is only lasts a few minutes, usually less than half and hour, very rarely as long as an hour.  A snow squall can be scary, but since you know it will be over quickly, it's less scary than it sounds.

    No snow squalls in Mid Michigan yet (which is quite unusual).  We had a high of 50 today and expecting 50 tomorrow before the cold and wind kick in again later this week.

    How have I missed 11 months of a weather thread??? I love the weather page of the paper, but since I live in Phoenix, it gets pretty boring. Not so lately - there's a freeze warning for tonight. Since I planted my annuals about six weeks ago, I'll have to get out some sheets to keep them warm tonight. Driving around Phoenix after a freeze is bizarre - lots of little citrus tree "ghosts" since they freeze so easily.

    Thanks NM - I wondered if it was that but so many things are given a different meaning in NZ from other places I thought it may be different.  I know about squalls - have been out on our yacht in several of them, rain or not it is not a nice feeling.  Am sure I wouldn't like a snow squall if I was driving - I would probably stop in a safe place and wait it out!  Guess you ladies are used to the weather conditions you get so you just carry on regardless.

    Welcome Sue.  I am just about in summer down here in NZ.  We have had a long wet winter so we are hoping for a long and dry summer like last year.

    Welcome Sue to our 'weather' thread. It started raining last night, calling for heavy rains today and through tonight. We are under a Flash Flood Watch until 6:00 am tomorrow morning that was issued Monday morning at 4:00 am, that is how sure the weatherman is about us getting a lot of rain through tonight.

    Welcome Sue.  It's so nice to hear about weather in other parts of the country and the world!  Mid Michigan is at a BALMY 54 degrees.  Unbelievable.  Our average high is 40 and we usually have snow by now.  I'm enjoying no snow and warmer temps.  Tomorrow we're supposed to be back to winter.
