I have to work this week on getting things ready for that first frost.  It is in the 40s this morning and DH turned our heater on for the first time this season.

It is 77 degrees currently and I've got my pool heated to 81 degrees.  My wonderful sister, her daughter and my great niece and nephew are on their way to see me for a week from Ithaca & Syracuse, NY.  We plan to go to Busch Gardens on Tuesday and we have a 30 % chance of rain that day.  Our weather is wonderful--no air conditioner and no heater other than the pool heaterCool

35 degrees, frosty here in central Maine.  The leaves have turned and been blown off the trees.  Starting to get rather grey out there, and with the time change it's getting dark by 4:30 pm.  Yuck.

It doesn't get dark quite that early here, but my outdoor time after work has really been cut back.

NM - I hate getting up in the dark and coming home from work in the dark too.

Our daylight hours are extending rapidly - light until about 8pm now and still more than a month to go before the longest day!  Summer clothes are the norm during the day but there is still a nip in the air at night. Temps 50 over night to highs of round 70 at the moment - just right for me.

And we have just over a month before our shortest day!

We had lows in the upper 30's this morning highs should be in the upper 60's: real close to normal temps. My heater still isn't fixed Cry but is at the repairman's shop. If the gasket arrives today he will get it installed and return the heater tomorrow before the colder temps return the end of the week.

Burr, Sheila.  I would feel colder, just knowing that I couldn't use my heater.

We are supposed to have sushine and 72 degrees today.

When we realized it wouldn't start and we didn't have any other heat source, we started trying to find a replacement heat source. I do have a small electric heater for the bathroom but it won't heat the entire house. We borrowed a portable radiant electric heater and I am using it only in the morning and evenings (don't want to burn the house down at night) but get up with temps in the low 60's in the house. I am just wearing an extra shirt around the house. The morning after we couldn't get the heater to start, I got up to temps in the 50's inside. thanks to the small heater I was able to take a shower.

Meece, Since I am out of work, money for hotel is scarce. My son was able to get the wick put in the small back-up kerosene heater that was given to us a couple of years ago and it is turned on in the kitchen. Although I don't know how long I will be able to stand the smell in the house and I have the kitchen window opened 2 inches and the ceiling fans on medium. I think I will just run it an hour or two at a time to keep the temps around 70. and definitely turning it off if I leave the house and before going to bed.

When we borrowed the small electric heater from my mother-in-law, she suggested that we purchase one of the larger electric heaters that look like a wood stove, I didn't tell her this but I thought this 'I am out of work and any money I spend on heating will be to fix the dependable heater I have used since 1996 and use the $480 worth of kerosene I just ordered, not purchase another type of heat source.'

The repair man just called, he is returning my heater that he held hostage since last Friday (yes it took a week to get someone to come out and look at it). He fixed it cheaper than he originally said it would cost, not as much wrong with it and he was able to use a 'slightly' used part instead of a new part.

There is a blessing.  I can totally understand where you are coming from.  I would probably empty out my stash of quilts and lay under them all and not get much done in that case.

It's windy here in Oklahoma.  It's 43 and falling. Up til last week we have had some cool mornings but still some really nice days.  I'm not ready for cold weather.  NJ

It was 83 and humid in my kitchen yesterday at 5pm - nice, but it was a bit of a surprize after 70s and quite fresh air.  Yay, so nice to see the sun instead of rain, rain, rain that we had over winter!

40s in the mornings and 70s in the afternoons.  I sure wish I could be home during the time that the weather is good so I could get some gardening done.

Saturday is supposed to be very wet with a storm coming through tomorrow night and hanging around for a couple days.

Took a bit but I think I've caught up with everyone.  Looks like we're getting back to our original thread name of "baby it's cold outside"!  Although for Rae it's looking nice and warm outside.  We haven't had more than a flurry or two of the "S" word yet in Mid Michigan.  Cool but not bitter yet - highs in the 40s and 50s and lows in the upper 20s.  Has Oklahoma had snow yet NJ?  Sheila, I hope your heater is fixed properly and you are warm very soon. Stay warm everyone.

Woke up this morning to a balmy -25Celcius and it was still only -21 when I came home from work.  It's winter here and we suck it up or stay indoors.
