I'm coming!

Hi Everyone-
I just came across this thread and wanted to introduce myself. I live in Central Phoenix with my amazing husband, 5 cats and dog. Was Dx at end of August and am nearing the end of neoadjuvant chemo (I go to Dr. O too, ebann!) and then scheduled for double BMX in mid to late Feb. I would love to meet up with your group some time. I think I have been sort of in shock/denial for the most part since I was Dx, so have not joined any support groups or anything but am finally starting the feel like I need to connect with other people going through this who understand.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2011,
Robin

R_healing (Robin) Welcome to our great group. We are a bunch of fun ladies. We understand where you are coming from. We are meeting Saturday on the 8th. Do you think you can make it to that event? Would love to meet you and get to know you. Dr Ondreyco is a great lady. A fighter and knows her stuff. I feel good about her being my Dr. Where do you go for your chemo? I go to the place on Eugie. Who is your BS? Mine is Dr. Lise Walker. I know where you are coming from bein in denial and shock. It is not easy to digest. I am dx for the 2nd time now. That caught me off guard.
Hope you have an awesome New Year! We are going for healthy.
Elizabeth
-
Hi there,
I'd like to go but that is the day after chemo. Things are a bit up in the air on that day for me. I hope perhaps one day I can make it to one of the events!
-
Elizabeth - Thank you so much for the warm welcome! Yes, Dr O. is incredible - I loved her the moment I met her and knew she was the one for me. I am actually over at the Scottsdale location but go to Eugie for my Neulasta shots on Sat. Dr. Walker is also my BS (love her as well) and Dr. Gawley will be my PS. The jury is still out on the need for rads until after I have my mastectomy next month but Dr. O did recommend someone if I need them.
I am sorry to hear you are going through this again - I truly can't imagine what that must be like for you. The second thing I told myself after I was Dx was that God doesn't give us anything we can't handle. (The first thing I told myself was to go have a martini!), That has been one of my mantra's through the tough times (God, not martini's).
I would love to meet up this Saturday but have another commitment that afternoon already. Do you tyically meet the second Saturday of the month? Let me know and I will be sure to block out my calendar going forward so I can meet everyone. I look forward to it!
Cheers,
Robin
-
R_Healing (Robin) Enjoy your Saturday afternoon. It does seem like the first to second of the month. I usually let everyone know about 3 weeks in advance and then send out a reminder for RSVP's. I did not do it this first of the month cause of the holiday. So our next get together will be on Feb. 5th as long as things go accordingly.
I understand the martini thing. When I was first dx that night I went out to sushi since it would be my last time for a year. They had this drink with mixed alcohol in it and they were called pain killers. Seemed to hit the spot at the time. Decided two was better than one. Thank goodness my friend was driving me.
God is an amazing part of my life. I am so glad he is in my life I could not imagine doing this without him. I look forward to meeting you and have an awesome week.
Hugs, Elizabeth

Hey ladies,
I hope this message finds you doing well. Ebann, I am sending prayers out to you for a good prognosis with the current situation. I wish you the best.
I have a Breast Cancer Book by Dr Susan Love I believe and wanted to know if anyone would be interested in having it since I received two of the same book. I will double check on the specific name of the book but I know it's the Cancer book.

Welcome to the new ladies of the PHX group. Please come and join us when you can, we have a great group of girls and have ALOT of fun together!!
Robin, I also had Dr. Walker and Dr. Gawley for my surgeries last year and loved them both!!! Best of luck. Dr. Gawley did an unbelievable job on my reconstruction. I love the result. Much better than my deadly natural breasts!! LOL
Nora, best of luck to you as well! Look forward to meeting you both!
To both of you ladies, please don't hesitate to contact any of us if you need anything, we all have been there and know it is a tough road!
Glad you are here!!
-
Aimee, Thanks for the recipe! My husband was just asking me if I ever got it from you, he is such a foodie (we both are!) he will be so excited!
Was good to meet you and hope you can make it again sometime!

Meek Welcome to our group! How exciting we would love to get to know you better. Sorry we do have to meet under these circumstances though. We will be doing something in the month of February. Not sure yet what the get together will be. I am glad you found this thread as well. The more the merrier. Please PM me if you have any questions or just send a message on here and I will answer them as soon as I can. Have a blessed day!

Hi Ladies, I was just wondering.......what Surgeon and Plastic Surgeon did you use?
Meek
-
What type of recon are you looking at? I used Bryan Gawley for TE to Implant recon.
-
I had DIEP surgery with Dr. William Casey at the Mayo Clinic
-
Welcome Meekone, i also used mayo for mastectomy, chemo, and reconstruction...dr gray was my breast surgeon, and dr rebecca is my plastic surgeon...both have great bedside manners, and very informative....i like mayo very much, and my care has been outstanding!
hope to see you soon, and keep us posted on your progress!!

Hi Guys,
I am having a hard time making a decision. I love the general surgeon I first met through Cigna, Dr. Pierre Gilles, however I didnt like any of the other support doctors I came in contact with.....Oncologist, Radiologist and recommended PS. Whippetmom recommended Dr. Bash over at Mayo, I liked her a lot. However Mayo doc and Non Mayo docs cant work together due to hospital rules (if you are a Mayo doc you can only work at Mayo and nonMayo docs cant work at Mayo). So I am being faced with the decision to have a delayed reconstruction, have surg with GS and have PS done at Mayo with Dr. Bash. Haven't quite got my hands around what to do just yet. However I am a good candidate for SSM with Immediate TE fills after the MX.
Also I am borderline Chemo and Rads, wont know until my pathology comes back if I will be taking those additional steps to beat this as all test results taken right now show no other signs of Cancer infection & and no additional family history with BC. So nodes and Onco score, BRAC1 & BRAC2 testing will be huge decision making tools.
Not sure what to do? If it were not for such a great GS I would not have been able to make it through these past couple weeks. Although I am sure if I have Rads and Chemo that I am definitely doing that at Mayo.
Thoughts?
-
Meekone: Such decisions to make. I personally would stay with Mayo Clinic. They have outstanding care there. I only had used the PS. There are several women who have used Mayo Clinic as well with only good things to say. I would maybe make a list of pro's and cons about what to do. I wish you the best in your decision please keep us posted. Do you know when they are planning your surgery?
Blessings Elizabeth

Not yet but we are looking at the first week of February, BRAC1 & 2 results due back in five days will know more then.
-
Hi Meekone! Welcome to the Phoenix group! This is a fabulous group of very supportive and fun ladies! I wanted to put in my two cents regarding my doctors. My breast surgeon is Lise Walker, in Phoenix. Very wonderful doctor, kind, patient and caring. And for my plastic surgery, I too have used Dr. Bryan Gawley in North Scottsdale with fabulous results that I am very happy with. Good luck with your decisions and we look forward to seeing you at one of our get togethers!
-
Hi Meekone,
i would evaluate a mastectomy from a breast surgeon vs a general surgeon...i have not researched this so dont have an opinion......other than to say,,is it the same,,,for example, will the gs do a sentinal node biopsy? how many mastectomies has he done? etc ...... this is a very personal decision, and i know from experience that things may not go as planned.... you know yourself best and what would make you the happiest, just be sure to do your research,,,,,,,we are here for you, be sure to keep us updated
are you on facebook.?
good luck to you, karen

I've been on these boards for a few years now & just came across this one! How the heck did I miss this?
I go to the Mayo breast surgeon on Thursday (tomorrow). I've been to see Dr Casey for the DIEP. I'm BRACA1 + so the girls must go. I'm a tall, broad shouldered gal and more than just a few pounds overweight. The multiple dr's that I've gone to for implant research have all told me that there are no implants that would fit my body. So DIEP it must be. My genetics test was done in 2009. In early 2010, I had the *wrong insurance* and had to wait until 2011 to change my health plan to one that would cover Mayo. What a pain in the patoot!
I live in Waddell at the foot of White Tank Mts.... think East Blythe! My hubby is retired Post Office, we have three siamese cats, Rhett Butler, Ashley Wilkes and Scarlett O'Hara (yes, I come from sourthern roots). I live on a mini-farm with a backyard of fruit trees (peach, pecan, fig, +a bunch of others). I work near the Point at South Mountain. I'm a true native of the Valley. There are so few of us. My mother was 3 when they came from Texas. My grandparents were share croppers & had to leave the cotton in the fields. Their whole story is just like Grapes of Wrath.
I would LUV to join up with ya'll, swap tears, fears & joys.
My lumpectory was done by Dr. Zanis. My mammosite was Dr. Quiet. My Onc is Dr. Singh. They are all great. I would recommend any or all of them. So far, I like Dr Casey. He seems to have a sense of humor. I've seen other Drs and they have a tendancy to be taken aback by my forwardness & humor.
TTFN.
