Is Anyone Doing an Alkaline Approach
Comments

MarieKelly.FYI it has NOTHING to do wtih Alkalizing the urine. It has to do to making sure your entire body is alkaline and that being with the BLOOD. Yes you can test your urine or your saliva at any given time during the day. If you want more information on how it can help with Breas Cancer find him on facebook and read up and judge for yourself.
and for someone that doesn't know anything about it you sure have some strong words about how it's false and doesn't work.

Pure: I just want to thank you for starting this thread, and I so agree with you. I have done all of the standard protocol, chemo and mastectomy, but I am also doing adjuvent care because if you have a healthy body, you have a better chance no matter what. My husband is "science guy" and gives me constant grief about the alkaline water, however, I love the taste of it (all other water now tastes awful) and it makes me feel better. Purifying your water, regardless, is a must for cancer patients and the Kagen system, the one that I use, does this. Going the natural way isn't for everyone, just like everyone isn't a Christian or an Atheist. This isn't about arguing, this is about sharing what has worked for us individually in hopes that others can benefit. That's what BCO is all about.
-
Pure- I don't think Marie Kelly was saying that this diet "doesn't work" or does not have some merit. I would agree that anyone who claims to have a 100% cure rate of anything (especially ALS) should be scrutinized. Certainly if he is claiming this, he should be transparent with his proof. Claims like that are scientifically improbable. As for the urine and blood testing, I think your point that they are not the same is exaclty what MK was saying, ie just because your urine tests alkaline does NOT mean your blood is. I'm very glad you are feeling fantastic and think that this diet is benefiting you. I may utilize some of its principles as well. I think it is wise for all of us to not jump hook, line and sinker into things. I welcome different points of view, including yours.
-
MBJ - how long have you been doing the Kangan water? I have been on it for a couple of weeks and I really like it. I am trying it out for a month. I drink a gallon a day

Jenn: I have been drinking it since my diagnosis in September. I just feel better and it also tastes better then anything else I have tried.

Pure- I hope you know that almost all of us on this thread are in agreement with you and i might of missed somthing b-c i didnt see anything about anyone thinking you were just trying to sell a product etc.. there have been a few negative comments, but that is always to be expected anywhere on any thread, and i wouldnt let it bother you- We (I) am so happy you started this thread, since i got the alkiline drops (cant afford the tank yet) i have felt better and i have a lot of energy plus i i have been eating better, and am excited about getting even healthier- Your right if it did come back it would be easier to get thru treatment, when i was dx and went thru mx and chemo i was not healthy i didnt eat healthy or excersise like i should, and it was hard for me the ones who went to work and didnt seem to have to bad of side effects were the ones that were healthier- not to mention that eating better you feel better, look better and live longer. Please dont stop commenting on this thread b-c of a few remarks, they can be ignored!! I look forward to all your help in letting us know how and what you are eating and answering our questions and i think i speak for pretty much every one here (((((((((hugs))))))))) thanks for all your help

I just got back from my natural internist who is helping me with the er/pr reduction. He had several things he suggested to me and one being trying to eat more alkaline. He said if nothing else add lemon/limes to my water that I drink. He also upped my green tea intake. So Dr. Young isn't the only one promoting the alkaline theory. He said it had something to do with the inflammation factor. He also gave me a list of food suggestions.
I haven't been able to find alkaline water - any suggestions?

Where I can get info about Dr. youngs techniques..plz give me links...

Pure - I totally agree with you. People are giving me a hard time all the time about the way I eat. They tell me that I need to allow myself to splurge. The way I look at it I splurged too much in my life and if it means living a long happy HEALTHY life, I will find other ways to splurge!

Pure,
I just wanted to tell you that since chatting with you on another alkaline thread a few weeks ago, I've bought gallons and gallons of alkaline water at Whole Foods and I'm giving it a go. I had pizza this weekend, so I don't actually feel great yet, but... with the salts I am turning the pH sticks in the 7 range, which makes me feel better. In time, I'll get my whole diet in line. Besides, once I"m on board, I think an occassional cheat will be fine.
What I wanted to tell you, though... I write training material for a living. And, Dr. Young's book is one of the most confusing/poorly organized guides I've ever seen! I just want to know how much water should I drink per day. Is the Alkaline water out of the bottle good enough, or should I still add the pH drops. Now that I've bought the chlorophyl, when do I take it? How offten and how much? I'd really like a step by step on how to go through a day; what to drink and eat, and when. After reading most of Dr Young's book, I still came back to your posts to see what to do! I just thought you might get a kick out of that!!! The fact is, although drinking alkaline water is easy, the whole diet/way of life can be complicated - at least until you finally alkalize out, and stop worrying about whether or not you're turning that pH stick green!

Anyway, I agree; great thread! Thanks for starting it!

MarieKelly made her comments out of compassion and concern. She did not attack anyone and does not deserve to be attacked.
I think if the facts can be explained clearly then it is all to the good for everyone. I provided some links regarding alkaline diet that were independent and that is what MarieKelly was looking for.
As for any treatment being 100% effective, I find that very difficult to believe. No group of people regardless on how faithfully they follow a protocol will respond in the same way. It raises my suspicions. Now, everyone can jump on my case.

-
I dont think any one wants to jump on any ones case here, that is NOT the reason for this thread, please lets stop the back and forthe, and who said what, can we just continue to talk about getting healthier and keep this thread peacful???

It's always hard not to take some comments personally when we start new topics. Topics that we find intriguing about a subject that may have real benefit to those of us looking to make our bodies as healthy as possible in this bc life of ours.....I know that I get excited when investigating new studies with any shown benefit towards a healthier life. I can take the info provided and conclude my own personal choices as to what to do with the material..I would not have even looked into the alkaline effect unless this topic had popped up...Some of the info makes a lot of sense to me.. I think sometimes people can take the info and try to tell us what to do or think with it, but we all can and will make our own choices as to this or any other topic that stimulates us into working towards our end result of fighting bc with as much knowledge as possible...So thank you Pure and please keep posting any info that you find to keep us updated on possible bc health benefits....

Thank you notself. As you stated, I wasn't attacking anybody - at least not anyone here. My gripe is with people like that Dr.Young person. In my opinion, and from my experience from working with cancer patients and also in having a disabled, chronically ill friend who spends an enormous amount of money he can't afford to spend buying into every bit of quackery promising help or a cure. Right now, my friend is playing ping pong with credit card balances just to pay for this stuff. He believes every word of anything and everything promising help that he reads on the internet and all those medical help infomercials. He's spent tens of thousands on these "cures" through the years; diets, books, hydrogen peroxide infusions, stange bottled remedies, hyperbaric oxygen treatments. You name it, he's done it and as he becomes more desperate due to disease progression, he spendseven more and has completely lost his common sense in recognizing that these things are pure nonsense.. And none of it has done a thing for him other than empty his wallet. He's progressively worsening and spends so much time focused on these snake oil cures, he ignores the fact that he can't safely live alone anymore and makes no plans or provisions for the very soon to be eventuality that he will need to be placed somewhere. He thinks he's going to find the cure if he just keeps looking and buying this stuff. They call him on the phone, e-mail him, write to him and convince him to try these products. In my years as a hospital oncology nurse I saw the same thing going on with some patients.
I even saw one of these charletons come to the hospital when I worked Oncology and watched a patient write him a large down payment check for some strange little machine. When he returned a few days later with the contraption wanting a check for the balance, the patients sister (his POA) was there and blocked his access to the patients room This patient died 2 weeks later. I vividly remember another patient dying of cancer who became convinced that huge megadoses of betacarotene would cure him. When he died, his skin was literally the color of a carrot (and no, it wasn't jaundice). I have a deep resentment for those who take advantage of ill, desperate people
As I mentioned in an earlier post. I wouldn't have a problem with Dr. Young, or anyone else who supports a particular diet or wellness program. ANY diet low in prossessed sugars is going to make someone feel better because the blood sugar levels become stabilized instead of shooting up and down in response to variable carbohydrate intake. Diabetics can often come off their medications and sometimes even insulin following high protein diets - I've seen this myself while working part--time in a hospital based clinic that monitored obese people on liquid high protein diet and I'm sure the same is true for this alkaline diet. But the truth about health and wellness is not to go off the deep end into one thing or another stringently. Moderation is the key to everything.

Well, I am definitely learning a lot from this thread. I am half Japanese (born in Japan) and water ionizers are pretty common in Japan. If you look at the list of alkaline foods, there are many foods that are a staple in the Japanese diet - could the diet and water be an indicator of why there is a low prevalence of breast cancer in Japan and many other asian countries? I tend to think so. Regardless, I love to read about different modalities on diet, nutrition, supplements and exercise. I like to take bits and pieces and incorporate what works best for me. I think we can all learn a lot from each other and am thankful something like these boards exist.

Girls, there is a video that explains the acid/alkaline thing very simply and understandably. It touches on blood vs. urine pH and why urine pH indicates how hard your body is having to work to maintain normal blood alkalinity, and a lot of other things.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpoAtwVyzZI
Although the title of this video is "how diet soda causes weight gain," it actually covers everything we've been talking about in this thread. Definitey worth a watch.

Thanks, Crunchy.

MarieKelly, I appreciate your cynical approach and believe it or not, I'm very skeptical when it comes to these things too. I don't go for snake-oil treatments because it supposedly cured someone's brother's mail carrier from cancer. I am so sorry your friend is spending so much money on snake-oil "cures."
The acid/alkalkaline theory, though, has science behind it. I don't know anything about Dr. Young and can't speak for him... maybe he's a quack, and maybe he's out to make a fortune, but the fact is the acid/alkaline thing is not quackery.
You mentioned how urine pH has nothing to do with anything... alkaline urine is not the GOAL in and of itself -- rather, it's an INDICATOR. One of the body's mechanisms for ensuring blood pH remains in its normal (slightly alkaline) range is, if the body is assaulting by acidifying factors, by having the kidneys put off higher than usual acidity, leading to more acidic urine. That's why too-acidic urine is an INDICATOR that too many acidifying factors have caused your body to work too hard to maintain normal blood pH.
Anyway, you don't need expensive equipment, supplements, or whatever to follow this theory. As Pure mentioned, just adding lemon or lime to the water you drink will cause it to have an alkalizing effect... between that and eating from the alkalizing food list and engaging in alkalizing lifestyle habits, I suspect that's all we need.
-
Crunchy,
Thanks for the video. According to the presentation, tomatoes are alkaline. Good News.............!
-
crunchy, great video worth watching every one and yes i was happy to see tomotes on there too, since i have been on a diet i started 2 months ago i gave up all sugars and my pepsi i was a pepsiholic i drank pepsi before i even got out of bed after 2 weeks i didnt even crave it anymore, but have been drinking unsweetened ice tea sadly the caffiene is bad too now i will have to go on a hunt for a ice tea with no sugar and uncaffenated too- any good ones out there???

Hey Guys---I hope I didn't sound to B_ _ _ _y....I agree Dr Youngs book is deep and all over the place I have to read it in bits and to tell you the honest truth Lisa, the girl with Multple Mylomia-she is a devout Alkainine (is that a word:) lol but we walk each evening and she has taught me so much! She is actully at his ranch this week and I am so excited for her to come back.
The water is addicting. It's so smooth tasting and your body misses it when your off it-for me that was got me hooked. My body was instinctually longing for it when I was off it so for me the proof was in the pudding.
I do eat tomotoes-infact I have 2 slices of Ezeki bread with tomato land spinach leaves. I put a little bit of organic mayo made with olive oil. It's really good!
You know if you really look at Dr Youngs diet it really is just a very clean healthy lifestyle-it's not off the wall. I am not down with the whole budwig thing where you eat cottage cheese and falx seed oil but eating and drinking whole pure foods makes perfect sense and I feel really good. I wish the same for all my bc sisters struggling wtih the after affects of treatment.
-
crunchy- thanks for the video. Nothin' like youtube! Last time I figured out how to use a toilet snake from youtube! I can't speak to whether or not Dr. Young is this or that, but as many of us have said, SO many of the "new" healthier diet aproaches have common factors. I am all for just heading in a healthier direction. We eat very healthily, only whole grains, loads of veggies and fruits, a little hormone free chicken, no red meat. My weak spot is dairy, not that I eat tons. I just can't imagine giving up my coffee with cream (only once a day!). Is there any cheese that is healthier? What about goat cheese? I am thrilled tomatoes are on the good list! I am off to make my favorite Mexican "garbage salad" for dinner, loaded with great leftovers: romain, cooked spicy ground turkey, black beans, avocado, peach salsa!
debbie- Have you tried some of the flavored green teas? I love the Mighty Leaf brand from Whole Foods mightyleaf.com. I take a big Mason jar and make the Peach green tea, always have it in the fridge. I heard that drinking only 2 small cups of green tea a day can reduce BC by 50% (Dr. Oz) .
Here's to getting healthy together!

Question for you ladies who juice - hoping someone knows the answer to this . ..
When I juice - am I drinking all the calories of the particular vegetable? For example, if I juice a bag of spinach and the entire bag is something like 40 calories - am I drinking all 40 calories - or are calories left in the pulp left behind? Just trying to gauge how many calories are in a juiced drink if it contains spinach, apples, etc . . . .
Thanks in advance!

Uh...about this "Dr." Young. Has anybody checked out his education credentials? Here's the status of the institutions of his "higher learning" as listed on his website:
- Bradford Research Institute does not exist. Dr. Bradford is currently under federal indictment for fraud related to health care claims. Capital University, where he supposedly works, closed in 2006. It was unaccredited.
- Clayton College of Natural Health, the source of Dr. Young's PhD, has never received educational accreditation by any agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Several state education departments specifically list Clayton College as unaccredited. Clayton College ceased operations this year.
- The American College, the source of Dr. Young's MS, is Clayton College under an earlier name.
So except for the University of Utah..this "Dr" Young basically has no graduate education from an accredited university. And it is unclear whether he even has an undergraduate degree from the U of Utah.
I'd be very careful ladies.....

Pure- No you didnt sound bitchy at all, you are just passionate about this especially b-c of your friend not to mention the health benefits
Designermom- Thanks for the tea suggestions i will check them out the peach tea sounds great, how do you make your peach salsa that sounds yummy too
incognito- What a great question, leaving some of the pulp behind maybe it is less calories??? Hope some one comes by and answers that i would like to know as well- but stil 4o calories isnt that bad compared to what a meal might be if you replaced it with that instead
-
patty- thinks for the information, i think the point we are learning here is that it is a healthy diet no matter what is going on with dr. young, i was talking to my dad about him today and i said, you know what dad even if he was some kind of con artist (which i dont believe) but if he was, he has done some good if it gets people to eat healthier and make healthier choices then its ok you dont have to have a degree to do that
-
Dr. Young has degrees in chemistry, microbiology and nutrition, and has spent many years researching the relationship between mycotic infections (yeast, fungus and mould) and the etiology of human disease. His research and articles on microtoxicosis have gained wide recognition in the U.S.A. and he is currently listed in Who's Who for his breakthrough research. He is the vice-president of Research and Development of InnerLight International, where he has developed colloidal and holistic nutrition formulas now being distributed around the world
I think this speaks for itself- IMHO it dosnt really matter about the college he attended

in-cognito ~ I'm with you. I take bits and pieces and am trying to make some positive changes. I was reminded by a very wise woman, it's best to make dietary changes 25% at a time. In other words, don't go off the deep end or go full out, because chances are you won't stick to them. I love juicing! Can't answer your question about the calories though.
MBJ ~ do you own your Kangen filter system? My friend offered to bring me a few bottles at a time and I had a few glasses this a.m. It is darn good! I wish it wasn't so pricey! I might get some 3 gallon glass containers and just mooch off her for a while. Thanks for sharing the website - checked it out and will look at it some more. I LOVE hearing what others do on their paths to wholeness and health.
Pure ~ thanks for starting this thread! ~ Daiva

I read somewhere that one should not drink decaffeinated green tea because removing the cafine also removes the polyphenols. So one would be throwing the baby out with the bath water. Sorry, I can't find the link.
The only problem with moderate coffee drinking or tea drinking is that coffee and tea are not alkaline. Well, we have to eat some things that are not alkaline or we won't be eating a balanced diet.
