All the pics at Wings of Hope are beautiful! So wonderful to see so many lovely sisters!
-
Thank you Valjean. At least my eyes are open in that one and you have a Mona Lisa smile.
I still cannot figure out why my picture won't show up. I tried editing it again with no luck.
Our race is coming up soon. Anyone want to meet Friday to get your packets? I still have about 14 to distribute.
Finally, I think we are in the running for having the team with the most survivors. None of the teams I packed up Saturday came close. Irene and I froze our buns off but had a good time. Thanks Irene!!
-
Thanks for the pictures. It was such a nice day.
Have fun on the walk.
-
Where are you meeting on the morning of the race? I'm on another team that my daughter started for me...but will be looking for your group.
-
Sue,
Look for us at the UPS Stuff check. We usually have a few big signs and butterfly head boppers on so you can't miss us. After the Race, we will gather at Hockey Town for lunch. You are welcome to join us. The more the merrier! I'll try to make reservations this year so, everyone - let me know if you are going.
-
Wow, that would be nice to be the winners of the most Survivors this year! Thanks for packing up the shirts Nancy and Irene...........you the best!
I've got mine, but DD and friends ended up in your hands. I can meet Friday as long as it is kinda local.............Nancy, let me know what is best for you!
Our NC adoptee will be arriving on Thurs., May 20th.! A warm Michigan welcome to you, Iris, just hope the weather warms up again before then!
Are we meeting in Livonia like last year and driving in together, or are we going solo and just meeting there?
Hugs,
Denise
-
As far as I know, the plans are to meet at Meijer's on Middlebelt in Livonia (S of 96 on the East side of the Road). I can meet some at the 23 and N. Territorial Park & Ride and drive to Meijer's from there.
We had volunteers to car pool but I'm not hearing from anyone! Yoohoo, anyone out there?? What time should we plan to meet at Meijer's? I'll send email to the Team this weekend to work out the details offline.
Welcome Iris - Have a safe flight.
I'm open for ideas for decorating our sign. Bonnie, you making one this year or did you save last year's? Irene, you bringing Mary's?
Denise - check your email. Suggesting by our favorite roundabout. Give me a yell soon if that works for tomorrow. I'll be offline until late today. Hi ho, hi ho - off to work I go!
-
Hey all!
Thanks Nancy..............roundabout is perfect, I sent you an email! Hope most of the packets are picked up before the 22nd., that's alot for you to carry around! And seeing I'll be with you, that's alot for me to be carrying around, too!!
Check in ladies, so we know who's meeting in Livonia!!
Thinking that you definitely don't want me making a sign!
Hugs,
Denise
-
Hey Girls,
Nancy I still have my sign. If you think we need it let me know. I may meet up with you girls at 23/Territorial. Hubby said that route is a lot closer for me. I will get back with you on that.
Please add me to the Hockey Town groupies along with our NC Iris. Add DD down as a maybe.
We may never see Denise again if you have her on the roundabout!
Iris see you on Thursday and travel safe!
Bonnie
-
We chose a safer meeting place today and will avoid the roundabout. So, we won't lose Denise or myself for that matter! I'm the worst. I have gotten on it and end up back on the highway - at least 2 times!
I haven't done anything with the sign yet. I hope to this weekend. I also hope to update everyone through email. What time are we meeting? I don't remember what time we did last year. The streets start to close at 7:00 a.m. but the actual walk doesn't start until 9:00 a.m. The Survivor Cafe opens early.
I'll meet some at N. Territorial and 23 and then we will head to Meijer's. Hopefully we will finagle Wendy and others to drive! Wendy, where are you? Judy - you there? Then, we will meet at UPS stuff check at the site. Not the Team Meet!! I hope everyone got that.
The Race is coming up soon!
-
I am so excited for the race next weekend! And we have a huge team, this is going to be so much fun. Our friends are walking once again with out group.
Nancy-I am hoping we can meet up this week sometime for a trade off. Are you coming up anytime this coming week? I am currently in CA, working and will be back late Sunday evening. I do have an appointment in Detroit on Monday and in Mt. Clemens on Tuesday.
Looking forward to seeing everyone! -
I'm here!
I'd like to pick up my packet today if possible?? I also have Shirley Houser and Kathy Croce, so that'd be three packets off your hands. Where will you be and when?? email me if you can, I'll check often. thanks!
woohoo- Saturday's coming
-
Ladies, what is the name of the team again? I can't walk with you but I'll donate to the team.
-
Suzette - We are Wings of Hope. Thank you very much.
I missed Judy but can try something today or how about Wednesday after work when Chris will be back in town? We could go to the Panera in Novi up where we used to meet near the mall? You notice that Panera seems to be a good meeting spot. If no one gets hit in the parking lot at least.
Sue - you are Sue's Crew, right? Will you have a sign? Are you meeting us at Hockey Town after? I need a count.
Chris, you going to Hockey Town this year? How many total if yes?
About Saturday - the count-down is on. I think 4 (oops - 5 1/2??) of us will meet at N/Territorial and 23. The Park and Ride is on the North/East side. We will continue to Meijer's on Middlebelt, just South of 96 on the East side of Middlebelt. The parking lot is usually pretty empty, but if not, gather around the West entrance. I'd like to send the group email today so I may just pick a time! If you have suggestions, please speak up!
Then, we will meet by UPS stuff check - look for the brown trucks and our sign. After the Race, we will look for those getting off the trolley and head towards the closing ceremonies and/or Hockey Town. They open late so there is time to make a pit stop and rest.
I'd like to know who is sure they are meeting at Meijer's so we don't lose anyone. I hope a few people have GPS and directions. Don't forget that the streets close at 7:00 a.m
Ok, Wings of Hope - check your email for times and get ready to walk!
-
Hi Girls,
Anyone up for a quick slice of pie on Thursday? I will be picking Iris up at Metro around 2:45 pm on Thursday May 20. We plan on stopping at Grand Traverse Pie Co. on Zeeb Road in Ann Arbor on the way home. We should be there around 4 ish? (depending on traffic.....what not).
Neesie - If it works out for you to meet us for pie would you mind bringing DD shirt? If not catch you on Friday.
Bonnie
-
I might be able to meet for pie if you are still planning that. Check your email.
Suzette - thank you for the donation to our team!
Looking forward to Saturday. Be sure to charge your camera batteries now!

Sphynx: Yes, the team my daughter set up for me is called "Sue's Crew" - funny- some of them are meeting at the meijer's parking lots, too - by the letter "D". You may see them there! I won't meet up with them until the walk, as I come from the Flint area. We have around 18 people coming, I think. We may go to Hockey Town afterwards...but I have no idea of the number, so we'll just head over there and see if we can get in. I'll look for your group ... amongst the thousands of people
If I don't find you, have a wonderful time!
-
Sue - I am really glad you told me that your group will also be meeting in Meijer's! We have so many people meeting there who have never met each other, I will send email so they don't hop a ride with the wrong caravan! I do not know where D lot is but I told everyone to meet around the West entrance. Is that near, do you know? I told them to look for the t-shirts and cars since the lot is pretty empty that early.
I attempted to make reservations for 33 people that I got confirmation from through email. That is a bigger group than we usually have. We have been going there for 5 years and never have problems getting in. The wait is usually long though.
We should be able to run into you or your group at the Race, Meijer's or Hockeytown! Be sure to look for our sign and we will say hello. If not, have a wonderful time also!
-
Have a great time ladies, I'll be thinking of you!
-
I also will be cheering you on - from Owosso! Have a great walk!
-
Thanks ladies!!! Watch for us on TV! We always seem to get on there - even if we don't want to! I will be the one hiding my face behind the sign. We will give a big WhooHoo to all our friends at bc.org!
-
Hi, Michigan sisters. I noticed that you are planning to meet at N. Territorial and US 23. It was up on Active Topics yesterday.
I was driving by there later yesterday and noticed that the southbound US 23 / Territorial on-ramp is all torn up, so you would have to detour north again and do a big loop to continue to go south.
There is a beautiful new Park and Ride on US 23 and Plymouth Road that just five miles on btw.
Good luck with your event.
-
I will be there also :0) I am just going with a couple girlfriends. I wasn't sure when my surgery was going to be so I didn't commit until I knew I would be able to run. But my surgery is on Tuesday so I'm in too :0)
-
bigdogmom- try to meet us at the UPS trucks! Yay, more people.
I still don't know if my friends want to do Hockey Town or not. I knoe two of them have a birthday party to attend later on Saturday.
MY shirt is in the dryer. Going to try it on and see what I need to do to it this year to customize it. I don't think I'll be able to cut the bottom off like I usually do- don't want to cut off the Survivor wording!! Anyone else customizing their shirts this year?
Wendy, yours was so totally beautifly last year- I hope you saved it and framed it!
See you all tomorrow- I'm driving a group in and will meet you at the UPS stuff check.
-
What a great day! Thank you everyone. The weather was almost perfect - just a few drizzles but never got a downpour. "Wayne Cares' won for the team with the most survivors. Congrats to them with 27 survivors.
Sorry I missed the last few posts before I left. We did have warning about construction on 23 & N/Territorial so took Territorial all the way to Beck. Not a bad drive but we were late! Not that I'm pointing fingers or going to name any names like Neesie - oops. Next year we will tack on a half hour for Neesie time. (You know I'm teasing your darlin).
I didn't get to meet bigdogmom but got a chance to meet 'Sue's Crew'. Very nice to meet you and your daughter, Sue.
I have to say that it was great to see everyone today and the news is that Chris is planning our next get together... a picnic this summer!!
Did everyone get home safe? I was worried about Lacie but I could see we made good time and got out of downtown while it still felt safe. I hope she checks in with you, Bonnie. I almost got lost myself but walked around the Opera House once and it was fine. I even got back on the highway this time without going down Cass Avenue. I noticed how the sign is right there and it looks like you should turn. It's the next street. I followed Kats and DH down there a few years ago. (Yoohoo Kats - thought about you today). Kats made the original head boppers. Judy has also been making them. I put mine on at home and it was "Cats Going Wild!!"
It's still early, I'm either going outside to enjoy the rest of the day or going for a nap!

NAAANNNNCCYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
...............................yes, I yelled at you! You called me out!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had plenty of reasons I was late: 1. Set the alarm wrong. 2. Power went out so alarm didn't go off. 3. Forgot to wash my hair in shower, so had to go back and wash it. 4. Flat tire on car. 5. Couldn't see in the dark. 6. I ran out of gas! Now, I know what you're thinking, "she may have ran out of gas, but she is full of sh**!"
Then ladies, Nancy was so mad at me for being late that she wouldn't even let me ride in her car!!
Good time was had by all............one of these years think we'll get it right and all actually be able to walk together? Atleast we got to eat together! Hockeytown seemed to have it together a bit better this year, didn't seem like it took nearly as long to be served. Sure wish I would have noticed they had added a 18% 'large group' gratuity before I left a tip!!
Looking forward to the next get together!
Hugs,
Denise

Well, we had a really good time. Terry said that it was amazing to simply watch as all the teams came back - they'd cross the line, then everybody would hug, then the next team would like almost run them over as they finished. Says he had a really good time, but he's been asleep since we got home. He still doesn't have his stamina back, although I am so glad to have the rest of him.
The "trolley" was not a good idea - it was a noisy, hot bus. We couldn't hear the music, or talk to people. I really like the ladies - there was a woman named Shelly who is just out of treatment - she was feeling just like Wendy and I did last year - healing, right before our eyes. It was so wonderful.
Wish I could have spent more time with you, Iris. It was a lot of fun to get to spend some quality time with you.
Nah, I don't think we ever manage the "walk together" part - just too darned complicated! And I missed the tip part too.
But I was so glad to be there - to just step on cancer's toes, do a little bit of damage.
Love you all
-
DENNNNNEEEEESSSSIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm teasing you and would have waited all day for you!!! No excuses needed - (forgot to wash our hair??). Yeah, I made you follow me but that backfired. I ended up walking to my car alone and didn't know where I was. I didn't get to say goodbye to you, Denise. Big hugs to you and thank you for everything.
I had no idea about the gratuity tacked on and I left a generous tip! I think everyone probably did. Here I was thinking they did a good job by doing separate bills. Don't know what happened with that middle table since we were done eating and they weren't served yet. Then that waitress who led us up the stairs to stand there huddled in the corner while she went to chat and never came back. Oh well, not sure how to fix that for next year. I
I thought we didn't do too bad walking this year. I saw the sign most of the time in the crowd and was glad it was tall even if it was unweidly. Thanks you guys for helping carry it! It seemed much more crowded this year. Even with the drizzly weather, I was amazed and the sea of people there.
Sue - Don't forget to mention that you got to sit next to a 49 year survivor on the bus! That would have been a treat. I'm still wondering what happened to the trolley? A bus? It was nice to meet your DH.
Iris - You are officially a Wings of Hope Michigander! How does that feel? I hope you had a good time. I'm glad I got to talk to you a little bit at the Pie place and on the way to the Race. With the group getting so big, I don't get to talk to everyone as much.
About those butterflies. I feel really bad that I didn't just give one to this little old lady who was a survivor. Everyone wanted to buy one! Some people came and specifically looked for "Wings of Hope" saying that they asked where people were getting them and thought it was one of the booths giving things out. But this little woman didn't get that it was a Team thing and Carol and I later thought she looked hurt that we didn't give her one.
Irene - everyone is always thanking me but you did so much work with the t-shirts. Thank you!
Thank you eveyone. It was a good year.
xxxooo
Nancy
-
You're right Nancy. She is a sweetie - she is 90 - when she was diagnosed, she was 41, and had 5 kids. Wow.
Her kids came up to the outside of the bus, and waved and cheered. Her baby is in his 60s.
I can't decide whether to put the butterfly in the garden, or to see if I can bend it and turn it into a bracelet. Probably the first, since it's less work. Next year, maybe I can put the butterfly on my shoulder.
-
WINGS OF HOPE TEAM ROCKS!
Nancy - Thanks for another GREAT year! Thinking next year you could sell the butterflies as a fundrasier since so many were interested in them. We had a small panic attack on the way home. Lacie called as we were pulling into Meijer parking lot. She was still searching for her car! Several people walking gave her conflicting directions. Thankfully her and baby are safe and sound. Thank you for taking the time to help her out with the map.
Wendy - Thank you for giving us a luxury ride to and from the walk. You did an amazing job navigating.
Sue - That was neat you got to ride with the 90 year young survivor. It was nice meeting Terry and glad he was able to join us. We will share Grandson anytime
Denise - I agree...... wish we could of walked together as a team. Maybe next year we can handcuff ourselves together.
Iris - We were honored to have you join our team. Hope you enjoyed your stay. Check in with us so we know you arrived safely in NC.
It was nice seeing everyone again. Looking forward to a summer picnic.
Bonnie
