I had a...ummmm...lapse in judgment and ate an entire box of donut holes yesterday. I wasn't even hungry, they just tasted so darn good. Back to the drawing board...
-
I am looking forward to salad for dinner tonight. We ate at a friend's for lunch. They are Taiwanese and she made fried rice and chow mein for lunch. Lots of vegies but I know she stir fried the chow mein so that means some oil.
-
Meece--could you log me in at 130 for yesterday? Did OK for a few days...
-
OK here's the whole back of my t-shirt, which you'll need a magnifying glass to read.
I got everyone of our ELAB birdies listed on there.
Kinda look in the middle.
-
Faithandfifty ~ Was on my way to bed, but had to stop here....
Wow, that t-shirt just did it to me..... made me cry..... I see my name and sooooo many names I recognize. All our beautiful, wonderful, God-sent sisters. How sweet of you to include us all.
I have never walked in a Komen walk. I don't know about doing it, is it really overwhelming to be in the midst of so many touched by this hellish bc?
(did you get a major cramp in your hand writing all those names?!?
)
faith, Congrats on the loss, too!
Jean ~ Congrats to you! Your food choices were certainly better than mine this past week!
Michelle ~ Yeah, I'm with ya on a lapse of judgement this week. I need something else to motivate me, any ideas?
Meece ~ Tai food, oh my, so good!
PauldingMom & Ainm ~ Thanks for the extra workout routines you did for me, they did aid in motivating me to put my fork down early during my Anniversary dinner. I brought home two doggie bags! Now, can I count that extra workout towards my total for the upcoming week?!? Ha-ha!
Love & hugs to all
-
Meece... Please add me to the weight loss. I weighed in at 151 this week. I noticed you haven't changed it. Thanks
Faith... Words can't express how awed I am that you took the time to include all of us here on your shirt/in your walk. I too have never walked in the Komen walk for the cure, but I have heard that it is something you never forget.

Good Morning Ladies,
I hope you don't mind if I rejoin elab. You really inspired me and I kept my weight under control. Now Ithat I haven't participated, I've gained 5 pounds in the last three weeks and I know I need your support to keep under control. I don't have much to lose but don't want to gain either. Can you please put me down for 122 Meece. My goal weight is 117 (i'm short and small boned so don't do well over 125).
Faith, thank you for honoring us on your shirt. I saw my name and many I know through the boards and started to cry too. I showed my hubby and he was so impressed that you hand wrote all of the names.
Valjean, if possible join my Komen team next April. It is overwhelming but very gratifying to walk up the Capitol steps with fellow survivors. We had a 35+ year survivor this year. Hope you had a wonderful 37th anniversary dinner with hubby last night.
-
Faithy! How beautiful. I saw my name, and the ELAB Birds! I also recognized names who were active when I started but haven't seen in some time. Perhaps we now travel in differnt circles. Once again you inspire me.
I hope I caught up with everyone. Perhaps I will PM everyone who hasn't updated in awhile and see if they are still interested in the project. What do you think?
-
Meece it sounds like a plan. Wish I knew what has happened to Nicole. I just hope she is enjoying life, Hawaii and her family of late. Best wishes to everyone for a great Sunday evening.
-
Big hug was sent to all my sisters.
Cant discuss weight after inhaling 12oz bag of macademia nuts in very short time.
When I come back Im jumping on that wagon and tie myself to it.
Doing lot of walks.
-
Hey Sheila I just PM'd you!
-
Meece - you missed my update so when you have a chance can you put me down at 159.83 - just making it under the 160 - childishly pleased with myself!!!
Incidentally those toesies are certainly looking rather svelte!!!
Faith - I am humbled that my name is on your shirt - thank you.
Val - hope you enjoyed your celebration, you can pay the exercise forward and when I'm celebrating my 25th anniversary in Sept I'll ask you for some help!!!
Mimi - wow 22lbs down since we started, you are amazing!!
Michelle - if it was just the donut holes you ate could they be counted as empty calories??Hehe!
Jean - looking good.
Suzette - welcome back - the more the merrier - well I guess that's easy for me to say when it's Meece does all the work!!
Seyla - while you are there try some Coconut water (not milk) it's suppose to be very refreshing, full of vitamins and other good things!! and I can't remember is it low or no calories!! Seemingly it's what all the celebs are on now!!!
Have a greeeaaaaat week everyone.
-
Faithy - what an honor to be on your t-shirt for the Komen Walk. Some many names...
-
Faith...What a nice way to show all the strong women we all are.
Thank You and Hugs.
Michelle...I just realized yesterday was your first year of celebration of life. Many many more anniversaries.
-
Meece....Yes Im still interested for the E-Lab Project.
Ainm...I never tried coconut water.
Thank You to All for wishing me to have good time. And I am.
-
Michelle ~ Me too! I love what Sheila called it: A Celebration of Life
Your first year of many, many more anniversaries to come.
{{hug}}
Sheila ~ So happy you are having a wonderful time! You do know we are living vicariously through you, don't you! We are hanging around you like little birdies. I keep cleaning the sand away from between my toes!
-
Wow Shelia & Valjean! Thanks for noticing...that one just slipped right by me! I celebrated my 1 yr quit smoking on May 5th but just kinda ignored yesterday...
Ok ladies, I am ready to get serious about losing weight but I need alot more direction. After hours of research I have decided to try a new book (The Metabolism Miracle to help with weight loss...waiting for the book to come in and I am already 'chatting' with the author on FB (How cool is that!). I plan on starting this new 'way of life' on June 1st. I am pretty nervous because I have to change the way I think about food and stop using it as a reward or rebellion when I get frustrated/pissed off.
My chest LE is really flaring and I have been really depressed, getting nervous/scared about my 1st post tx mammo on June 9th. I have been eating lots of comfort food and packing on the lbs...ughhhhhhh!
-
Seyla, you bought tears to my eyes with your beautiful tee shirt. So very sweet of you.
Okay ladies, I walked the survivors lap with Mom on Friday night at Relay for Life. Very neat experience. Saw some old friends and even a young boy I had taken care of as a baby. He was cheering on his Ms. Wesa!! I prayed and thought of each of my friends here.
Then Sat. morning Mom and family got a free limo ride and breakfast at a local bakery. I had won her this in a local "Best Mom" contest. What a blast! But fattening.
Last night Mother Nature came back to visit me with my monthly gift. Really, I'm freakin 47 years old. I don't know if I should be happy, scared, or mad. She stopped visiting back in Oct. I thought I was done for sure. Guess I'll give my Onc. and GP a call today to make sure I'm still normal or as close to normal as one is after all this. I called in sick today for work. Just feel crappy and worried. UGH! I just want to be really normal again. I think I'm heading to Subway today to eat my problems away.
-
It was Faith's shirt. Seyla's still in Aloha-land.
Auntie Flo came back for me about 6 or 8 weeks post last chemo. And she returned with a vengence. Making up for lost time or something. Absence had not made my heart grow fonder at all. As far as I know, this is normal, and nothing to worry about. (((hugs)))) anyway, because who likes an unplanned viostor?
-
Michelle ~ I just read about The Metabolism Miracle book on Amazon. I think I'm a metabolism A, usually gain in my upper thighs, not very much in my middle. Most reviews were good of that new way of eating. I do think we should probably go back to the basics on our eating; less processed foods, more veggies & fruits & less carbs. I'm not much into cheeses & meats or processed foods. (sugar is my thing: my SIN always)
Please let us know how you do & pass on some tips for us when you begin June 1st. And, you are chatting with the author, Diane Kress, on FB?!? How cool is that?!? I don't want to buy the book, I might stop in at the library after Memorial Weekend & see if they have it.
I completely understand the anxiety re: your 1st post tx mammo. I was scared s@#tless to be honest with you. All I can say is to breathe deeply & slowly & try to hold positve thoughts before, during & while waiting for results. Please keep us posted. We care.
Also, CONGRATS on 1-year of no smoking!! That is no easy feat. I've watched my DH go through that twice.

Here is a list I found which shows some foods which boost your metabolism, and why.
Remember the days when your metabolism was like a caffeinated mouse in a wheel? Yeah, me neither. If you aren't one of those lucky gals who can eat whatever she wants and burn it off thanks to an annoyingly fast metabolism, look to these helpful foods to boost your metabolism.
GrapefruitThis diet super fruit lowers the insulin levels in your body that trigger your system to store fat. Plus, it is rich in fiber, and your body must burn extra calories in order to break it down.
green-tea
Green tea is the main source of epigallocatechin gallate, known better as EGCG. This healthy catechin speeds up your brain and nervous system, causing your body to burn more calories.
Yogurt
The high levels of protein present in natural yogurt require a lot of energy to be processed. Plus, the pro-biotic cultures found in yogurt help regulate your digestive tract.
almonds
Almonds' essential fatty acids help raise your body's metabolism. Just don't overdo it because they're also very high in calories.
coffee
Coffee has caffeine, which does give you a boost. Just ensure that you don't exceed 2 or 3 cups a day, or you risk a host of side effects, including irritability and jitters.
turkey
This protein-rich meat builds lean muscle tissue, which causes your body to burn extra calories and raises your metabolism.
apple
Like grapefruit, this low-calorie snack is high in fiber, which your body must burn calories to break down. Plus, since apples help you stay full for longer, you'll eat less.
spinach
Popeye was right about one thing: spinach can help make you strong and healthy. In addition to speeding up your metabolism, it's a great source of antioxidants, magnesium, potassium, iron and vitamin C.
beans
Low in fat and packed with protein, beans keep you full for long durations, and your body must burn extra calories in order to process this fiber-rich food.
jalapenos
The capcaisin found in jalapenos causes your body to burn extra calories for hours after you ingest them, speeding up both your heart rate and metabolism.
broccoli
Broccoli contains a highly effective metabolism-boosting team of nutrients: calcium and vitamin C. Calcium acts as a metabolic trigger, while vitamin C helps your body absorb more calcium.
oatmeal
Because your body takes a long time to break down the fat-soluble fiber in oatmeal, this healthy food lowers your body's insulin level and speeds up your metabolism as a result.
soy-milk-cereal
Fortified soy milk is loaded with calcium, which helps boost your metabolism. Just stay away from the sweetened varieties.
curry
Like jalapenos, curry increases the amount of calories your body burns and speeds up your metabolism.
cinnamon
A little bit of cinnamon can go a long way. Add some zing to your daily cup of tea with this tasty spice to help your body metabolize sugars more effectively and maintain steadier blood sugar levels. Cinnamon can also help lower your cholesterol.
-
Sorry Faith! I'm still so very touched by your shirt. Great job. I can just imagine how messed up mine would be if I tried to do that. Obviously I stink at names.
I've taken to drinking Apple Cinnamon tea int he morning and then adding the rest of the pot to my iced tea pitcher. Yummy and healthy. Thanks for the list Meece!
Onc. and GYN both said it was unusual for it to take 10 mos. but that it shows that my body is recovering from the shock that chemo. put it through.I must admit I don't miss the hot flashes and freezing hands and feet.
-
Great list Meece - I'm very picky but like at least half the stuff on the list. I was good last night and had a delicious Spinach Salad (Michigan Spinach from the city/farm market) and fresh peppers (not Michigan peppers yet cause they're not in season). I did really well on my food yesterday except for three small scoops of hagen daas for lunch. Will do better today.
Good luck on your first post tx. mammo Michelle. Mine was in March and I was very anxious.
Have a great day ladies.
-
Thanks for the list Meece!
For those of us who are ER+ grapefruit is a no no as it somehow lessons the effectiveness of Tamoxifen (not sure about AI's) and soy is very controversial as it does convert into estrogen.
Do you think oatmeal is still good for you if drowned in butter and maple syrup (both organic)?
-
Val - ooooohhh! I LOVE Cheese, all kinds of cheese...breads, ummmmm, white and fresh baked, yummm! I have found I can deal without the sugar stuff but ooooohhh the breads, crackers, chips will be really hard to give up.
-
Eating well is so hard. I love my bread and sugar but have really cut down. I really hope that we continue to eat more fresh fruits and veggies. My DH loves dessert so I am trying realty hard to only have one piece and letting him eat the rest plus making them in a sqaure 8" pan instead of the large 9 x 11 pan. I

My biggest help has been to not have second helpings on anything.
-
I need to buy smaller plates... I do not like my food touching so my portions would be REALLY small, then I would truly be Eating Like A Bird

In an effort to -- follow-thru-with-what-I-gotta-do
I:
1.) Went to the library to get some new resources
a.) "Beck Diet for Life"
b.) Yoga book w/awesome photos
c.) Yoga DVD
2.) Ordered my fave take-out fresh salad
3.) Read the first three chapters of the book while eating salad
4.) Walked about my house/making laps on the stairs for 25 minutes
5.) Drank 2 glasses of cold water since laps
What are you going to do this evening that will benefit your health?
