My bird (long time ago) used to eat French fries.

If you like cheese, the Babybel Light only has 3 grams of fat and is the perfect little size. Just enough to take care of your cheese craving.
-
carolina - love babybel cheese...but it takes two or three to satisfy my cheese cravings...
I have been a little discouraged and frustrated...even angry...I am still struggling with getting in enough exercise and an sooo jealous when I read about Miles Walked...I can barely finish a mile before my muscles seize up and walking becomes to painful to go any further. I walk like an 90 year old with creaky knees and I am only 39. I cannot afford to join a gym and with working full-time, trying to prepare healthy meals and raising pre-teen/teenagers sometimes I feel like my plate is just too full to take on anything else.
How do you guys do it?
I have adopted a radically healthier eating life style, reducing processed food from 90% of my daily diet to less than 10%, increasing veggie and fruits. I have cut refined sugars, white breads, pasta, rice and cereals substantially and after two months I still fluctuate between 159 - 164 lbs...UGH!!! Why can't I see SOME results from such a radical change in diet!!! I HATE that 2nd to CANCER, what I eat, when I eat and how much I eat has now consumed what free time I have. I miss living life with blinders on, eating foods I enjoyed, not reading every label in the store in order to avoid the soy hidden in almost all processed foods. I miss feeling like I can do anything; paint every room in my house, scrub my floors till they shine, refinish furniture or just rearrange the furniture in my house without the fear of my LE flaring up and the pain that comes with it.
I am so sorry to dump on you guys but I am so sad, overwhelmed and discouraged I just needed to get it out before I explode on my family or retreat further into my shell.

Michelle...What a beautiful picture. Hair is dark. You look wonderful.
It is difficult when you have a job, teenagers and a family to take care of, beside your own emotional and physical health.
I give young mothers with little children and especially with teenagers lot of credit when they think they know everything.
I have been there without BC and wasn't easy. But at the end its worth it because things calm down. I hardly lost 1.5 pounds since E-Lab but 12 pounds since December.
Some days are very difficult. I walk a lot because I have the time.
Little by little you get there.
Sheila

Thanks Shelia! I have been checking out some of the HER+++ threads and Tamoxifen threads and have learned that both Herceptin and Tamoxifen can cause weight gain and joint pain...joy! I feel a little better knowing that I am not losing my mind, just fighting an up hill battle... I guess all I can do is keep moving forward and be happy that I am maintaining a steady weight...
Sweet Dreams!

Michelle ~ First off, I LOVE your new avatar picture. You are so pretty, you look wonderful!!
Oh, it is so difficult, this journey we are on. I do not have a family at home now, so I do have more time to plan my workouts, my walking, my meals. BUT, I, like you, am so tired of having to watch what I eat, how much I eat, etc. I am so tired of counting out items to eat (14 pieces of cereal=90 calories, one Edy's fruit bar=70 calories, 1/2 cup of this or 2 T of that), reading labels in the stores (I see people walking by, looking, probably thinking I am nuts). Staying away from sugar (oh, my sweet tooth craves it-actually, that is getting better-the more I don't have it, the less I want it-only in mind do I see the picture of a gooey dessert!), never eating bread, donuts, whatever. Telling family, friends, "No, thank you, I am trying to eat healthier." or "That is not good for me."
I give you props for raising a family, working & taking CARE of yourself, all in a day. You are stronger than you are giving yourself credit for, Michelle. Some days we need to have someone, other than from our family, tell us we are doing well, that we are strong & that we will do it, that we CAN do it.
Have you tried Glucosamine/Chondroitin for your 90-yr old creaky knees? LOL It has done wonders for me, it might give you some relief from the stiffness, also. What is that song that says, "I'm much too young to feel this damn old" ? Garth Brooks?
Sending love & {{hugs}}

faithandfifty ~ 4 miles in 1 hour, 3.5 miles in 1 hour. WOW, whew!! I do 3.3 miles in 1 hour, brisk walking/light jogging (I call it scooting along
!) You are moving great, gal!
off to bed ~ Hi to all!
{{hugs}}
-
Val - thank you so much! I know I am too hard on myself sometimes...I look back at my life before BC and I was Freakin Super Woman compared to now...it is hard adjusting to this new reality! Glucosamine/Chondroitin is probably the only supplement I am NOT taking...will have to stop by the health food store tomorrow and check it out.
I still have three more months on Herceptin and then I am done!!! Have any of you tried a detox program that you felt REALLY worked to re-balance after treatment??
-
Michelle, Hang in there! With the meds you are on it's much harder to loss weight. Just keeping it off has got to be a challenge in it self. I hope this helps in some small way, but I know that exercising alone can get very boring. I loved it when my children were younger like yours and we would go for walks together. It took a dang shoehorn to get them up in the morning to go but once we got started they always had fun and it gave them lots of time to share information and thoughts with Mom. My middle daughter still enjoys coming over and doing Yoga with Mom and my oldest always wants to go for a walk when he is here. My youngest hasn't reached the stage of missing quiet time with Mom yet. I'm sure it will come soon.
You are doing great! Keep up the good work, you look fabulous.
I really need to update my pic.
-
Michelle, great picture. I was a single mom of 3 teenaged boys (one in the military at the time) when I was dx'd. I understand how you feel like you went from Wonder Woman to couch potato in a matter of weeks. I never got my strength completely back.
Just over a year out from treatment, I developed a major case of Bursitis. It literally happened overnight, and I thought I had broke my pelvis. After CTs and x-rays, the conclusion was reached that it was bursitis. I spent the next three years barely able to walk two blocks at a time. Last year, I went to see a Chiropractor for the first time in my life. i was desperate. After several weeks of treatment, I saw a huge difference. I am on monthly follow-ups now, but can at least walk through my day without too much pain. So, I really can't walk like I see you girls are doing. Even when I spend a day gardening, the squatting and standing takes its toll on me.
I have no idea what I can do to up my activity level without hurting my mobility. I feel old!
-
Michele I take Glucosimine and naprosyn. I have arthritis and am allergic to most of the good arthritis drugs so it helps. I admire you going thru all this while raising a family. I started walking a little at a time and feel good when I go 2 miles, I pay for it and working in the garden but am learning it is worth the price. It is really hard to lose right now so don't be too hard on yourself. Eating better is a real challenge for all of us! I was taught some simple leg lifts while sitting in a chair really helps with stiffness just lift one leg at a time start with 5 and work up to 15, hold 5-15 seconds and repeat. I have found it helps with the stiffness but I have had a hip replacement but it helps both legs.

Good Morning To All My Sisters.
Im so glad we have each other.
Michelle...Hoping today will be a better day.
-
-
Michelle - hoping for a brighter day for you today!
-
Sending smiles to all my gals here!
-
Paulding Mom, are you going to have to shave your head so we can still see your smile?
-
Michelle, I love your new pic it is great and I love, love your hair!!! Paulding mom you need a pic with a smile... LOL!
I went to weigh in this week... :=( no weight loss boo, boo!!! I held steady. Maybe by Friday. I guess with all the meds I have been on for my sinus and ear infection it has caused me to not lose? Plus being at the hospital and not being able to stay on the diet very well. I went back on it full force Monday and I'm hoping for a better show next week.

Hi all! Today was better...just coming to the realization that maintaining my current weight is a good thing has helped.
Paulding - went for a walk with the family this evening and as much as I enjoy spending time with them...ugh...the kids can be such whinny butts. DH and I a nice chat but the kids were wanting to stop before we even finished 2/3 mile but by the last 1/3 mile they start to come around
I think it is awesome that your grown kids still enjoy hanging out with mom! By the way how is your mom doing?
Meece - Wow! I am so grateful to have my DH, I cannot imagine dealing with BC and being a single mom at the same time. You are amazing and even though you may not have the mobility of your previous 'wonder woman' self I think it is awesome that your are seeing an improvement.
carollynn - I'll have to try the leg lifts, I get so stiff at work being stuck behind a desk at work all day...
Mimi - I hope your sinus infection is completely cleared up and you a well on the road to recovery. Has you dad been released from the hospital yet?
After I posted last night I realized I needed a new pic and had hubby take one so I could update my avatar, just had to show off the new curls
Thanks for all the great feedback.
I splurged and bought a knock off of the Stride Walking shoes today, hopefully having real shoes (have been walking in Birkenstock knock offs) will help! I hope so because today was a FULL on Carb day so the next few days will have to be carb free to make up for it.
-
o2behealthy, Thanks for remembering my Mom. She is doing well. Having the side effects from the hormones and trying to keep the weight off. She got some of those Stride Walkers and took a fall in them. I think they take some getting use to. She's coming to visit in May and we will walk in the Relay for Life Survivors Lap. We are going on a trip together with our DHs in June too. That's why I have to drop a few lbs., well that and health reasons.
Last night I skipped working out
I spent the evening looking for a lost car title. Found it but what a waste of time. Tonight BIG walk and early to bed. Got to be ready for tomorrows weigh in.
-
I can so relate to the paper search, PauldingMom. When I was doing taxes, I absolutely could not find my W-2. I had to walk through the house several times, search a couple of piles of paperwork, and finally remembered it was still in the car. That's just one of the many times I've spent looking, it stands out because it really got my heart rate up. It probably burned a few calories! I am an organization nut, but since we moved (and I married DH) I have not been able to completely organize my office. There is always something else that comes up that need my attention more, like DH.
-
I know my rep. as a bad influence for eating a certain orange snack food, so I am here to make amends and offer a dietary olive branch:
You can use certain spices to speed up your metabolism. Cayenne is one; another is cinnamon. Google either one with the second keyword being metabolism and you can get more details about appropriate daily amounts. (The cinnamon has to be a certain kind.)
Good job E-LAB ladies who have been walking. I have been trying to go almost daily myself and your reports are shaming me not to be a slacker on that. Thanks!
-
Michelle (O2be) - my sinus infection seems to be clearing but I am still having probs with my ear that was infected. It is still "stopped up". It won't clear when you hold your nose and blow, so I'm guessing it still has fluid in it. I may have to go back to the doc. :=( Oh well!!!! As for my dad, yea he is still in the hospital. He is having probs with his short term memory since surgery. They have moved him to rehab floor of hosp. He may get to go home on Monday.
Cheers to all of you ladies doing well on your diets. I'm kinda hitting a plateau I think and I'm a little disgusted but I guess that is to be expected. The scales aen't showing pounds I'm losing but I'm losing inches. I acutally got into a pair of size 8 capris I haven't worn in 2 yrs. Woo Hoo!!! I ws really excited!!!
I just wish the pounds would fall off with the inches, it makes me sad that they aren't. I told the lady at the weight loss clinic that. O.k. I've complained enough. I've got to get back in the saddle and drink my water. Uggghhh!!! Give me some moral support here I have 4 more LONG!!! months to go.

elimar ~ I've added cinnamon to my flaxseed, along with turmeric, dark cocoa, ginger, & pepper that I take each morning with water to get those antioxidents. I did not realize the cinnamon had to be a certain kind?? I'll google cinnamon-metabolism & see what I find out.
Renee ~ That is really the first way I realize I'm losing weight, is that my clothes are looser. That is just wonderful that you got into that pair of capris from 2 years ago. YAY !!! I've noticed my jeans are not as tight as they were through the winter months even though according to the scale, I haven't lost much. I hope I have a loss for tomorrow's weigh in. It seems every Friday, I'm the same or a bit more but during the week, I show a loss. Like today, I was 146.2. I know someone who never weighs herself at all, she only goes by the way her clothes fit. I have to know, sometimes I think it's an obsession with me. I need to know the number. Crazy, huh?!?
Moral support: You really are doing great, Renee. Really. You come here to share, whether it is good news or bad & that is half the battle, I think. We need to have someone to talk to, & get support from, even if we don't lose, if we slide backwards. We all have those bad days, I know I certainly have. Sometimes I just want to eat everything I like & I fight like hell to not do that. My willpower somedays just sucks! I go to the store & it takes everything I have to stick to the outside rim of the store to stay away from the bad stuff & get only veggies & fruits. Lately I have thought of this group of gals & that I have a weigh in on Friday, & I feel good when I'm in my truck putting my seatbelt on, yay, I didn't buy anything "bad".
Thank you, ladies, for being that little birdie on my shoulder!
-
Hi, all! Weighing in.
I lost a pound! Meece...I'm in the 170s, woo hoo! 179. Havent seen that number in years!
I was utterly shocked since yesterday I had mcdonalds...yes, at 9 pm...with a shake. BAD. and the two days before I had chips ahoy each day. I was only getting on the scale to repent and start over, which I am still doing, but I was so pleasantly surprised and thankful! Losing weight is my nemesis!
-
I think ValJean wrapped it up pretty darn good.
I know I've got to try a little bit harder because I have to come here to check in. I've always told my doctors that if they would just tell me an exact number to reach and made me weigh in I could do it. Of course the always say, "Jest eat healthy and curb the carbs." Blah blah blah. One told me once my weight was perfect I just need to grow taller. A real funny guy.Okay, 162 today but with clothes on. Just leave me at 162 Meece so that next week if all goes well I will be closer to that beautiful number with a 5 in it and I am not talking 165. We are headed to a baseball game this weekend and DD is packing a tailgate party. Gonna be hard so I need to muster up some of that will power Renee was looking for. I'm sure there will be beers on ice and baseball and beer just kinda go together. I don't really like the stuff but do some times indulge.
Way to go Cake!!! I hear ya on the Chocolate chip cookies. The children I take care of have cookies for snack everyday. I usually hand out animal crackers but ran out this week. I made chocolate chip cookies. Ate one but now the cookie jar is sitting there staring at me like my lost love. I need to remember how they broke my heart when they forced me to stand in front of a 3-way mirror! Nemesis is right.
-
Congrats to you, Cake! I know it feels so good to hit a new milestone!
Ugh...I am back to my starting weight of 156. Spring break really threw me off course and I haven't been motivated since. I guess it's because I got a bit of a tan, and my "jigglies" don't look quite as ghastly with a little bit of color. I've got to get motivated, but I'm in the middle of a job change and can't quite get it together.
-
PauldingMom, I like your tale of "lost love." The break-up was inevitable, but I see that you are still "friends" since you had only one. Believe me, it's for the best this way.
-
PauldingMom.. I know that feeling how much you want to see the number 5.
Its more difficult with children in the house. You have to buy for them and once your favor junk food is in the house, it really becomes an obsession. Hide it. Don't leave anything out so you can see it. Thats a torture.
Valerie....Isn't it nice to see your clothes are little looser or you fit in them without holding your breath.
Eat healthy doesn't work for me I do eat healthy but if one sitting you finish the whole chicken thats not good. I learned portion control.
Oh sometimes I miss my gold fish, doritos, half a jar of unsalted peanuts etc.....
But instead I suck on a 80 calorie Edy's ice pops which are delicious.
Well Ladies we made another week. We stand together in this journey too.
This morning I weigh 160.2
