THE 2ND TA TAS SISTERHOOD REUNION IN VEGAS!!

KEW
I was at the coping session, and there were two women that stood up, so I guess that was you :-) I worry because I didn't have clear margins after two lumpectomies. I was so stressed that I just wanted to start treatment, didn't want to go in for a third surgery. Now that I'm a year and half out, and more sane, that margin scares me. Of course I did do chemo, radiation, herceptin, and am taking tamoxifen. Tough for a person who rarely if ever even takes aspirin!
-
When is the Vegas trip? Not sure it is something I can make or not since I am heading to Mexico very soon :-)
-
How amazing that KEW and JAZ got to talk together.. WONDERFUL!
-
Laura--We did. One of the women running the "coping" session was a social worker from my hospital. We were talking before the session and she was impressed that Jaz and I met on BCO and since she was going to mention online groups as a way to help cope she asked if we would stand up and and briefly talk about BCO and the Sisters!
2bsnapod--Yep, that was us! I'm glad you came to check out BCO. You will find lots of support. I get why you are worried, but you've done all you can. If you really think you want to explore another surgery talk with your doctors. PM if you want and I'll tell you my doctors are/were.
Thanks for your support, I will definitely let you all know about scan and grades on Tuesday!
Hugs--Karen
-
Sending a hug out to all you wonderful women. Sorry I haven't had time to post more often- I miss ya!
So great news is on a roll.. Laptops are being returned and Laura- praise Jesus! Your hurt is better and your scans are clear. Amen sister!!
Karen - Every time I read your posts you inspire me. You strength shows through in everything you do and you have such kindness for others. Looking forward to hearing your good news on Tuesday!
Jazzy- Your smile is just the best.. but that tooth fairy best get her hinder back to your house-- she forgot something --- she needs to get rid of that infection from your tooth so those lung nodules will go away!
You both are in my prayers that the scans are great news and you have no anxiety during this waiting period.
-
Susie- How was the dancing student gathering? Are you on vacation now?? I didn't get all those scans. No CA-125 for me. Just the CA27/29. Hugs to you girl-- Keep healing
-
I was away since last Wednesday and just wanted to say:
Karen - sending belated prayers for your friend. What a story, what a thing to share! I am truly sorry for her loss.
And a question: does everyone with BC get brain scans? I had a PET scan prior to starting chemo (which my doctor seemed to do routinely to make sure there wasn't anything else lighting -- and there was not)... but PET scan doesn't do the brain. As I understand it, I won't be having another PET scan since there was nothing after the first one (and no cancer left in my breast after the MX... which had been preceded by two lumpectomies). Sorry to put this here but since you gals are talking about it, I thought I'd ask.
Lilah
-
Theresa- Here I am
. Thanks for asking about me. I am SO jealous about your new arrival. Post a pic for us... Good luck the 29th--- is this for routine screening or something bothering you?
-
PACKER.... as I settle into bed.. I listened to my VOICE-MAILS!
... Are you able to talk tomorrow night?
I had so many scans because I was Her2+... 40 at time of DX and it WAS in my nodes....Lilah... I think very few get the scans some of us get.... I am GLAD mine are over..!!!
-
Well, I was 49 at DX but other than that similar to you with 1 positve node (not sure how many nodes you had) and HER2 positive... ah well... I will ask my ONC when I see her this week (I'm on 3 month follow ups at this point)... stay tuned (and thanks)!
So glad for you Laura at the clean bill of health!
Lilah
-
Lilah.. I see that.. I am so absent minded these days..
Did you have Chemo?
-
I did... ACT and now still on Herceptin til next summer (or maybe September, who remembers? lol)
-
Hi Packer---Great to see you post. Thanks for the kind words. I hope all is well.
Lilah--My onc really doesn't like to do scans unless someone is node positive. He believes and the peer-reviewed literature shows that there is usually no benefit in outcome if something is found in a scan before there are symptoms, for distant recurrences/mets. If it is a local recurrence found by mammography--ladies who still have breast tissue--there is an improved outcome. This does not mean that mets discovered when symptoms appear is untreatable, it just means that finding it a few months earlier on a scan hasn't been proven beneficial. It is discouraging. My onc and others try to avoid scans because they so often find things that aren't a problem but lead to years of follow up--like my lung nodules, I have to have scans every 3 months for 2 years. I think some docs really like to scan others don't, and some patients do require it. It is an area where there is room for improvement through research for sure.

OMGOSH-Packergirl-it was the best!! I felt like I was in Vegas again with all the lites & Dancin of the Cheerleaders as well. Got to see the Girls dance, but ....
somehow wasn't able to connect to see each other face to face, cell phone problems on their end,but it was worth the trip to see them & I got a call the next day & we chatted away for over an hour!! They want me to come & teach a master class of Jazz & Tap before June- I'M SO PUMPED!!!!!!
Were getting ready to leave for the beach for a couple of days for spring break-I love the ocean & we hear that you might even see the whales, double fun!! Of course I would just die if there were any DOLPHINS!!!!!!!
Girls, Thanx for all the feedback on the scans. After chatting with a couple of you, I'm abit dumbfounded on me. The stage 4 situation. I was told by 5 different professional medical Dr.'s that I was a stage 4 thus this is why they took all my nodes & a stage 2 HER 2 tumor. I had 2 things going on in my breast. My Onc. & the Radiolgist plus the radiation Dr. were among them as well telling me this. I even talked with me sister & checked out some sights about this, & your right, according to what I read-it doesn't seem possible,I went back to my hubby & he confirmed what we were told, he was there & then I even had Dr.'s write it down due to what I was still getting over with the MRSA & other stuff & somewhat afraid I would forget this important information. One Dr. even circled it in the pamplet I was given during my 2 hour talk of what to expect from the what they saw in the mamogram. I've been told that I don't follow the typical patient program in any of the situations & surgeries I have been thru. My medical history has baffield the Dr.'s clear back to "MY BIRTH", so I guess I've gotten use to hearing things about me that don't make sence & just be thankful that I pulled thru. To this day, my Dr.'s don't understand how I've pulled thru-I Thank the almighty GOD above & my family & friends of supporter's...we all know that without them,we may not be where we are today-Mighty Pink Warrior's!!!! Any input is always grateful from you ladies!!!!!
Best weather wishes for Spring break to those who get to take time off!! Power prayers for the continued good news & healing of those in need!!! Big hugs lof LOVE to all!!!!!
Take care Chow XOXO Susie

I just wanted to say that I am glad that I found this thread. I am still trying to figure out this whole discussion board thing, so still feel a little out of the loop.
Susie- sounds like you have been through a lot! I am also very fortunate to have my faith, family and a very supportive group of friends. I don't know how others get through something like this without it.
Hope those of you who get some time off for spring break get some R & R. You all definitely deserve it.
goodnight

Oh I also meant to write this before but will do so now: Karen, Val and Julie who I am rooming with -- if you guys want me to put the room on my credit card I can do that and then you can send me your share or give me when we are there (either way works)... I am thinking we don't need to reserve til this summer, though, since the rooms will be held for a bit (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I am happy to book / hold the room for the four of us whenever you say!
Karen -- thanks for the info about scan vs not scan... I think my ONC definitely is on the NOT scan unless necessary side (given that when I saw her three months ago she only wanted a bone density scan due to chemopause).

PACKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I listened to your voicemail, thanks for the info! So now let me tell you about my girl, she is 3 months old now and so wonderful. Smart, she is so smart. Sweet too. My grandbabies lay on her and she just licks them all over. Her name is Lucy. I will defintely post a pic of her soon.
I am all booked, at least my room is lol, for Vegas! 2bsnapod, if you decide to go just send me a message, I also needed to do it more economically and I book a room for 4 nights for 315! Thats like 80 dollars a person for 4 people for all 4 nights! I am still thrilled about it! More money for fun stuff!
Oh Packer....that little special test I get to have on the 29th is my 5 year one, since my mom had colon cancer and BC can make you more at risk, I figured I might as well get my ass in there (literally LOL) and do it. The EGD is because I have a moderate hiatal hernia that needs checking
ohhhh lucky me lol.

Hi ladies!
Just thought I would share my "kick the crap out of cancer" good news. I am doing the Susan G. Komen 3 day walk in Seattle in September and am on a great team. We had our first fundraiser of the year on Friday night and raised 45,000 dollars!!! (Thanks Jazzy for the donation!)
I wanted you all to know that I was thinking about all of you at the event. It is because I have met so many great women who have been affected by cancer that I want to keep doing everything I can to make it go away!
I hope 45,000 dollars is a step in the right direction!
-
LOL tkone -- the way your post reads it is as if Jazzy gave ya the whole 45K!
-
Well, Jaz is a very giving person!

I am so excited! I read this thread daily but am really going through a stressful time right now so I am not responding much. Don't be offended, I think about you gals all of the time, every single day!
My BIL might have brain cancer and might move in with us. That means Grandpa would come too. So my house will be full. My dh has surgery this Friday and then on Monday the contractors show up to remodel the house and create another guest bedroom for my BIL. I don't even have time this week to go out and see my horse.
I have been spending 10 hours a day removing storage things that were stacked floor to ceiling in a 10'x12' room and trying to find a home for all of those items. I am beyond exhausted. I don't need to go to the gym - I think I am getting plenty of a work out just doing this stuff along with house cleaning, laundry, cooking and all of the regular wifey duties. My dh was sweet and bought me some chocolate the other day when he was at the store. Right now he is passed out asleep and I am staying up to finish some laundry.
The next 3 weeks are going to be so hectic but know that I am keeping up with this thread.

Woo hoo for the new hair Laura! (I am sad to learn that Herceptin slows the growth down though -- sigh -- I've got about 3/4 of an inch? I am 5 months PFC... does that mean only about an inch and a half in another 5 months? -- eek!)
