I get on the scale in the morning before my coffee.

You are right it can be addictive. I read some place that you only suppose to weigh yourself once a week for best result.

    Hi ladies,

Sheila- I think of you ladies, too! My whole family is eating double chocholate cake, MY FAV! However, I opted for a cup of coffee and licked the knife... it actually worked! I will most likely not weigh often as I WILL not weigh myself daily, only because it can make me mental! Count me i n for once a month weigh ins :)

Love to all, I feel you with me on this journey!

Shelia - Oooooohhhh that salad looks DIVINE!!! That's my lunch tomorrow!

Weigh me in at 162 lbs (a half a pound away from having to up my Herceptin on next treatment).  I am 5' 7" weighed 147 at dx and would really love to get back to that weight...I just hit the 'over weight' area of my BMI and most of it is in my tummy, hips and thighs.  I have finally learned how to better manage my LE and am not hurting as much which does help with energy level and have cut back on carb's CONSIDERABLY (no bread, refined sugar, crackers, chips, pasta or potato - which used to be 75% of my daily intake).  Have been missing the salty/crunch of chips so started making Baby Spinach, Collard Greens and Kale krisps (lightly spray with Pam or olive oil, sprinkle sea salt and bake at 350 on cookie in single layers)...OMG they are good and fill my 'chip craving' My kids love them too and we always manage to eat the entire cookie sheet before the next batch is done...

I am learning how to eat healthy, read labels and portion control...I am completely amazed to find soy so much of what is considered 'all natural'...of course cannot avoid it entirely, just like carbs but I am trying to make better decisions.

Now if I could just get off my bum and start walking...

    I love this thread!!!

    Welocme Michelle!

Sheila- I second the salad, yum!!! I will have to make one of those!!

BTW- There is something to be said about the Subway fool long. I bought a veggie footlong today, ate half and have the second half for lunch tomorrow... no chips or soda! Just the sandwich and water... pretty filling!

Blew it with a glass of wine tonight, but made up for it by skipping the cake, right?!?... hey I can believe, anyway!

Hi Michelle...i was worried about you almost send the board police to find you.

I found your kale crisps very interesting.

Do you use fresh, what size you cut it because they are kind of curly.

You just put the fresh kale or th collard green in the oven and its done.

I'm very much interested. Please could you write it with little more details how you do it.

    Thanks and Hugs

Thats the salad I had tonight, I also added cucumbers.

It was delicious. You can use Balsamic vinegar instead of regular red one.

Nicole, we are entitled to have something once in a while.

I noticed one thing when I cheat every other week, its easier to take the weight off in one day.

At the beginning it took more than a day.

HI Nicole thanks for the welcome!

Shelia -I use fresh veggies and I have baked baby spinach and collard greens, my co-worker is going to try the kale tonight and I just bought some turnip greens to try too... It is a learning process...I have burnt batches (which still tastes yummy), tried to cook too much on one sheet and they never got crisp (not so yummy), used too much oil and not enough oil (like olive oil best, lightly drizzled over batch and tossed for better coating)... I have learned that 350 is the best temp, not to over lap the leafs too much on the cookie tray and salt before baking, I cut down the really huge leafs and remove the stems. I usually start the timer at 8 minutes and then check for crispness and add time as needed - I have never been good at following directions so I wing it alot of the time :)

Yes Michelle, please more details on those Krisps. How long to bake them?

Pat ~ I saw that Prevention magazine today also, I almost bought it. Might have to.

Suzette ~ I live just 4 miles north of Perry, 2 miles east of M-52. Maybe we can meet for lunch when the weather gets warmer.

I feel good about this thread, I could use some new ideas for foods. I don't like cottage cheese, avocado, cucs. I love sweets, any suggestions to replace 'em?

Valjean - I love sweets too and have found berries, melons and apples help with the sweet craving...however...word of caution...before I knew more about carbs and how foods breakdown in digestion - I went on an ALL FRUIT diet and gained 10 lbs in 5 days...eeeeekkkk...

I have heard that dehydrated carrots taste like candy...I am trying to find a friend with a dehydrator so I can try that out...I also get my sweet kick from my flavored creamer  with my coffee, honey with my tea, sugar free gum...would love some new idea's for those sweet cravings.

I saw a resipe yesterday for avocado and jicama salad with chili lime dressing.  It sounded yummy.  Add some tomatoes and I am in heaven.  I wonder if you can have too much licopene?  I am a tomato fiend.

I have a dehydrator, an old one but I might try some carrots.  (Right now we use it to make natural food for our fish.)

I also love flavored creamer and have limited myself to the fat free ones.  The sugar free ones don't do it for me.  It still has calories, and the flavor selection is next to none, but it is an option.

I'm all for the once a week weigh-ins.  Maybe our new weights could be posted at the top with our beginning weights?

I had my fruit and yogurt parfait from Mickey D's this morning, and I'm getting ready to have blueberries for my morning snack.  It's raining here today, so I guess I'll head to the gym at lunch instead of walking outside.

Seyla - that salad looks yummy!  I can't wait for summer and some homegrown tomatoes!

I found this recipe for spinach chips.  It doesn't use oil though.   Spinach chips recipe

I agree, we will have our beginning weight, and then our current weight.  Everyone try to check in on Mondays for the updates.  Or, which is better, Friday (before the weekend endulgences) or Monday?

Renee and Seyla- American Idol Fan too. I completely missed last season :( due to this stupid illness. I also watch Survivor but think I am the only person on earth that does. I always watch them in recorded so please no spoilers. I'm in bed by about 8:00 PM because I have to get up so freakin early in the morning for work.

I wanna hear more about those crisps too!

I keep a jar of Nips near my kitchen. They are sugar free carmels and taste pretty darn good. Since my triglycerites (sp) are high I have dual reasons to drop these pounds. I've also had minor heart surgery about 3 years ago so avoid caffine. I have found that Green Chai Tea with sweetner is yummy to me. I drink it cold and hot. Because of the triglycerites I stopped using margaine and switched to butter. I have found that it doesn't take as much to sweeten my food and since there is no toast or potatoes in my diet it's been pretty easy. I skipped my workout yesterday so want to try and do real good today. Maybe stretch it to 3 miles. Put on a good movie or something and just keep moving.
Anyone doing Yoga? I picked up a free CD at www.CDSWAP.com and it's very helpful for my shoulders. The surgery side is stiff and where they put the port is tight too.

Hugs and healthy eating everyone. I'm craving a Greek salad  with the dressing on the side. Does anyone else do the fork dip in the dressing instead of pouring it on top. Really cuts down the amount you use.

I'm an American Idol fan as well as a Survivor fan...and Amazing Race and Project Runway.  Oooh, I think I may have a reality TV addiction!  I also watch them recorded because there are so many commercials and so much "fluff."

I vote for Friday weigh-ins.  I already dread Mondays enough, without the added pressure of a weigh-in!

Friday weigh in is okay with me.

Mchelle ~ Thanks for the reminder of sugar in fruit, even though it is natural, it's still sugar & gives you a "rush", too. I will have to watch the number of smoothies I have. Would you please share your knowledge of how foods break down in digestion or pass on a good website to view? I don't like/drink coffee & rarely drink green tea (even tho I like it occasionally), so I get no sweeteners that way. Will have to have Crystal Light more often instead of only in my smoothies.

    PauldingMom ~ I, too, "dip".  :D

    Have a GREAT day everyone!

Valijean -- Read some other articles from Prevention in previous issues and it sounds like it is the brisk/fast walking that gets rid of the belly fat. Also mentioned that the slower walking will NOT accomplish this........... but even slower walking was better than not walking they said. My normal routine is the brisk walking 5 to 7 days per week and we usually do 3 to 4 miles.

Hope everyone is having a nice day! I must confess I did sin today and had a very small slice of birthday cake at work as it would have been rude not to......right????? Undecided

I usually weigh in on a Monday but change is good so I'm willing to change to Friday if that's the majority vote.

Edited to add :  Well I actually weigh every day when I'm doing Wii Fit but I usually only log it 'officially' on a Monday.

I walk 3-4 days a week in nice weather.  It must not be brisk enough.  It takes me about 40 min. to walk 2 miles.  I don't have the steadiest pace either.  A tug from the end of a leash sometimes brings me to a grinding halt as my hound doggy has to stop by the local "kiosk" and pick up her "pee-mail."

I've been very bad in Atlanta, so bad I can't even begin to think about it in detail.

Friday weigh in is good - I'll be back home tomorrow night so I'll get back to being good on Friday.  I want to start doing my wii fit again.  I haven't been on it since my diagnosis.  It's really going to "yell" at me when I get back on.  That will be my goal this weekend, to get back to my wii fit routine.

Valjean - we'll have to get together for lunch soon (a salad lunch!) - glad to meet someone who lives so close to me.

    Goodnight ladies.
