Baby it's cold outside

Thanks Native Maine and Meece. I am taking Bonine, another motion sickness pill that is the same as prescription Antivert. Can I tell you how much I hate being dizziness. As a child I had severe motion sickness and every childhood disease ended with me feeling like this! I can't even watch dancers swirling!!!!!!!!
Native Main - is that you dog in your avatar - German Shepard? I love him!
Since it is a new page I think I will add a cartoon on the subject at hand:
-
I think Bonine is meclazine--I just couldn't remember the trade name. So you should be all set.
My avatar is my German Shepherd. Her name is Snookie. She is now 11 or 12 years old, but still going strong. Even in the snow and cold she'd rather be outside than inside most of the time. She also knows that she can get my attention when I'm on the lap top by using her snout to knock the screen back so far that I can't read it! One side of my laptop is always covered Snookie snout prints.
Is yours a maltese? Whatever she is she's adorable!
-
Maybe a shitzu? Cute little one!

Temps here have been quite mild the last few days. No sun today, but it feels quite nice out there and at least it isn't raining. A lot of people don't agree with me, but I prefer snow to rain when it is cold....that rain just freezes you to the bone.
My cat George gets right in front of the computer screen and I have to push his tail out of the way to see. My house is a hair palace....cat and dog hair everywhere, but at least I am happy to say mine is no longer part of the mix. This new stuff doesn't even seem to come out in the shower when I wash it. Actually my new hair feels like fur....it is so soft.
-
Congrats on your new hair, Marybe. I am allergic to pets, but I love them. I want an outdoor dog, but DH says if he can't bring it indoors, he doesn't want it.
-
I hear you about the hair. German Shepherd are required by German Shepherd law to shed enough hair every day to make a new dog. My vet says Shepherds should come with a warning that they are a risk to the health of any vacuum cleaner that uses a bag. I changed to a bagless vacuum after getting tired of having to change the vacuum cleaner bag after vacuuming the living room and again after vacuming the hall and bedroom everyday.
-
That's funny, NM. I remember my waste basket, when I was going through chemo, looked like I hampster was living in it. When you noticed it didn't move you realized it was just my hair. I learned to flush my hair, because finding all of it in the wastebasket really freaked my boys out.
-
I know this should go on the memory post, but did any of you used to put hair out for the birds to build nests with? I remember when we would get our haircut at the beauty shop we would always ask for the hair and then put it out for the birds.
-
No, but supposedly if we pt the hair in the gopher holes, they'd go away. We did it, but my memories were more of my dad flooding thier holes to get them out.
-
Whoa - you guys have been busy since I stopped in. My avatar is a Coton - the full name is Coton der Turlear - I think it means cotton which is what they look like. They have hair instead of fur so they must be groomed every 6-8 weeks. We should also brush them but they don't like it. You feel like your're wrestling with a Tazmanian Devil. We have two littermates that my sister bought almost 5 years ago.
-
So very cute! What is their average weight?

Weather here in Tampa has been beautiful today with sun. Last night, it was so beautiful outside with a layer of fog and the moon shining behind it.
We have had black labs for the last 15 years or so. Our first one died several years ago and we got another one about 2 years ago. We always get females. My house is one big black dog hair catcher. So is my pool. She loves to swim but our filter is always loaded with dog hair. She was my strength when I went thru chemo. She was so gentle and sweet. Now she's turned back into her puppy self.
-
In the spring when Snookie starts shedding the winter coat I brush her outside as much as possible. Clumps of hair blow around and the birds show up out of nowhere to chase it around for their nests. It's hilarious to watch on a breezy day!
kmccraw--beautiful dog! Does indeed look like cotton in the picture. Must be lots of fun and full of energy.
Beautiful day here in Maine today. Clear, deep blue sky--what we call winter blue--nearly 30 degrees, no breeze, sparkling snow, very, very pretty.
-
Kathleen, I think we discussed your dog months ago. I totally forgot until you said Coton.
-
I just came in from an afternoon in the greenhouse. I decided to switch my plant tables on the North side with the Potting bench and storage on the South side. A lot of work, but the weather was great. Completely blue skies and warm sun. If the weather holds, tomorrow I will be planting some more bulbs outside.
-
We had a perfectly beautiful day here but the only time I was outside was to walk to the mail box. Spent most of the day painting the master bathroom.or should I say cutting in the paint which is taking forever. Think I am going to like it.

YAHOO!!!! We actually had SUN today! My DH and I went to a local nursery and bought 6 new fruit trees and got them all planted. 2 kinds of cherries, 2 kinds of apples, a peach and a plumcot, a cross between a plum and an apricot. They're are supposed to bear fruit within 3-4 years, so my newest goal is to stay alive to eat the fruit! Goals, goals and more goals. I keep those "carrots" dangling!
-
I have always wanted to have a greenhouse--I'm so envious! Maybe someday. This morning it's 8 degrees,a bit cloudy. Weather report is calling for rain tomorrow. Rain, In Maine, In January. Good grief. On top of all this snow we are going to be dealing with a lot of flooding. Which reminds me, I better get down to the garage and make sure everything water damagable is up off the floor before the end of the day today. And yesterday I was shoveling off the front walk and steps. Oh, boy. Gotta love winter in Maine.
-
The rain in Maine falls mainly on the ....
I am a bit sore from all the work I did yesterday. We cleaned the master bedroom, the kitchen, dod all the laundry. Then I took care of my houseplants in the kitchen, went outdoors and did the greenhouse project, then went and pruned a tree in the front of the house. If the weather is okay today, I have bulbs to plant after church and grocery shopping. I really need one more day in my weekends!
This is my "playhouse" the evening after i finished building it. It looks much more worn and full now.
-
Pat, what color are you painting your bedroom?
-
-
Those are cool pictures Meece!
Hmm - average weight of a coton is 10-15 pounds.
NativeMaine - my folks had a black chow - the entire house covered in black hair! I didn't realize GSDs shed so much.
Weather is reasonable here in Virginia for winter. No complaints but stay tuned - that could change at any time.
Meece - we did discuss my dog months ago but I can always talk about them! They sometimes look like plush animal toys, sitting stock still staring at you.
-
What a beautiful greenhouse. I want one. With all the rain we have it has to be strong and durable. Update on our new trees...this morning two of them have been chewed on by deer and there are hoof prints everywhere. DH and I will be putting polls and deer fencing up in the rain. Oh, yes....more rain. Surprise!
-
It seems pretty sturdy for the rain, but we can get some bad winds and it doesn't like them much. I went to church, groceryshopping and just finished vacuum sealing all the meat we bought. Now it is time to go outside nad play, and the sky has gone from azuer blue to gunmetal grey. I better hop out there whil I still can.
-
Meece--What a lovely greenhouse! I love the way you call it your playhouse! The biggest reason I don't have one is the cost of building one that will hold up to rain, wind, and snow. Oh, well, maybe in a few years.
kmccraw--yeah, most people don't realize that GSDs shed year-round, with a major shed in the spring when they blow out the winter undercoat and again in the fall when they blow out the summer undercoat. You can literally pull undercoat out in clumps during those times. Still, I love the breed! There's something about having a dog around that is at least, and sometimes even smarter than I am!
smithlme--I used to have seven cedar bushes landscaping my house. A few years ago there was a very cold winter, with very little snow, right after several years of "soft" winters. I regularly came home to a herd of about 7 deer in the frront yard stripping the cedar bushes. Wound up killing all but one of them. There was a big deer die off that winter, offsetting the population explosion of the few years before. Still, I wasn't very happy when I had to cut down all but one of the bushes! I didn't have a garden then, I'm hoping they won't find the garden I started last year for a while! I like your signature--2 x bc a$$ kicker! Personally, I'm a bc TREATMENT survivor!
-
We finally got the polls into the ground and decided on chicken wire around the polls. Ta-Da! Six little islands of fruit trees, getting a luscious drink of rain water! Was it worth it? Every cold, drippy drop of rain. I gave each tree a pep talk and gave them a blessing, promising to be alive to eat their fruit!
-
Meece--- Love the greenhouse and it looks so inviting with all the beautiful plants! No wonder you enjoy it so much.
You asked about what color I am painting the bathroom. It is called "brown bag" and I am pleased with the way it is turning out...... it is a nice contrast to the light tiles, vanity and so on.

Pat, that sounds pretty. The interior of our house is in shades of tans and greens, i.e. Barnwood, wicker, basket, Grecian Urn, our bedroom however is a tuscan gold. I am toying with which color scheme to paint my sewing room. It get a lot of morning sun, and is currently the only room in our home other than the toilet room, that is stillwhite.
I took some pictures of the grenhouse today before I started my yard work. I still didn't get my bulbs planted, and I need to start my vegies in the greenhouse soon. I use the green house to overwinter a lot of my patio plants, and I am playing with some bonsai plants. Today, I .....oops I've gotta go, my husband made dinner, so I'll tell you what I did later.
-
It's raining. Hard. Going to rain hard all day and the wind is supposed to pick up this afternoon.I'm going to hae to go out in it and I hate going out in heavy rain. And this means I will come home after work to a house without power, I'm betting. And have to go through the hated heavy rain to unlock and open the garage door manually. This is rediculous. We aren't supposed to get monsoons in Maine in winter. Did I mention I really don't like going out in heavy rain?
-
We are having rain with lots of storms predicted today and the possibility that they "could" cause tornadoes.................but I am still going out to "play" ( girls day out with shopping and lunch ) as nothing stops that.
Native Mainer-hope you don't have a power failure! Neither of us are having good weather.
Meece-Those colors have such nice names- what manufacturer? I still have three white rooms left but that will soon be changed. I drive myself nuts when I am selecting colors.
Wishing every one a good day
