How long were you in the surg bra? How long were you in the post surg bra? Are you still in the Kmarts?
BTW - how's the pain and rads going?
BCBS just revisited their ins claim and has retroactively denied the MRI portion of my MRI biopsy (experimental), The bill is over $2K. Lovely. Like I need this.
-
Sweaty,
I got a freebie bra from the surgeon's office (two actually - one after the first surgery and one after the re-excision) but I wound up buying some of the fruit of the loom hook and eye front closing ones from Wal-mart. I bought them in 2 different sizes and would wear them either one depending on time of day or how much swelling. I also bought a couple of the ones from JC Penney with the zipper up the front. Sometimes one style was more comfortable than the other. I also got a tip from another lady on the boards about buying a couple of close fitting, but really stretchy cotton t-shirts. You want to be able to stretch them to get your arms in without lifting. I found a few with v necks. She recommended wearing them under the bras to avoid any irritation from the elastic. The bras from the doctor's office had some funky elastic exposed to keep them from riding up (like they could). I wound up wearing the tshirts under all 3 style bras for probably the first couple of weeks. I had to wear the sports bras for 6 weeks, because of where one of my incisions was. My regular bra hits right on the incision.
Hope that helps. Good luck. You are in my thoughts and prayers
Ann (former LI girl)
-
Ann -- what a good idea to wear a t-shirt under the bra!
Sweaty -- that totally sucks about the insurance claim. Can you appeal it?
Lilah
-
HATE bcbs
they denied my ps, won appeal, they still are denying my initial MRI.
About every 5th day they deny rads.
Just for the heck of it.
Phone rep said, why are we doing this to you?
I said, you thought I needed another problem?
Was in big bad velcro surgical bra for a week. (got extra at hospital and switched about day 3, but this screwed up my dressings.
Went from Talmors straight to mast shop and got post-surg.
Wore that for hmmmm......another week or two.
Then switched to sports bras.
Don't sweat the post surg, I really think it's main feature is front and back closures plus lining. Not a must.
-
The lining sounds like a nice thing.

two things
I have an OFF THE HOOK idea for next GTG.
Should we start a second thread, for chit chat, and leave this thread for GTG info?
Will call new thread seaport sisters.
-
Yes, I do think we need to move to another thread, and I like the name too (: What section will we be in?
-
gtg's
-
Sorry Ladies, I didn't mean to barge in. Lilah, the t-shirt idea was actually from member "SoManyWomen" She's great and gave me lots of great tips. Have fun NY ladies! If you gals like Italian, my fav NY restaurant is a tiny Italian place in the basement of a brownstone on West 4th and 6th Ave called Volares. Been going for about 25 years and it hasn't changed at all. Have fun...
-
I apologize if I've hijacked the thread away from gtg info...I didn't realize we were limiting the discussion. I don't think we need to split into 2 threads - in my view, it would just be another thread for us to check - but will accept majority opinion.
BCBS turned out to be needless panic, it's resolved. I freaked out when I opened the envelope and saw a revised EOB leaving me with an unexpected $2K plus bill.... Several phone calls later, it's all good.
Spoke to the PSs practice mgr, she said cami only - no compression bra. Who knows.
Still utterly freaking out about some of the details, spent most of the afternoon at work trying not to cry. Basket Case.
You are all my heroes for dealing with this nonsense.
Ready for the off the hook idea. Oh God, it's not the trapeze place is it????
-
Sweaty -- glad you got that resolved. I have to say my insurance has been good and yet, still, I've had my frustrations. Since my diagnosis I have often felt that there is something wrong with a system that has SO many requirements (referrals, approvals, etc) at exactly the point when you MOST need THIS at least to be easy. It doesn't work well.
It's scary Sweaty -- I know I was all over the place emotionally too -- hopefully when you are through to the other side you'll heave a sigh of relief to be past that and on to better things.
Re: two threads... I agree. I know I just joined here but I don't see why two are necessary... it's women in the NY area going through this together (gtg or not) it seems to me. My two cents. Thanks for making me feel welcome.
Looking forward to hearing about the car show! Sorry I must miss it (off to Boston with my BF to visit with family).

I am a westchester county person and would like to keep informed about NY gtgs. Please keep me on whatever list you guys compile. I will check this thread as well.
Thanks,
Jane
-
that's fine...discussion's not limited.. it was really just for my convinence. My idea was to keep rsvp's closer together, and I could keep track of gtg stuff a bit easier. I put the pertinent info at the top anyway.
As you were.
No trapeeze, I hate heights

-
Cookie: you could ask people to PM you -- so you can be sure not to miss RSVPs.
Lilah
-
It's fine..continue chatting!
The PM's are really hard to organize.
It's all good...I was the one with the page long bra posts!
-
LOL Cookie re: page long bra posts!
-
OK...day is almost here....
Where are we meeting you Cookie at the Javit's? Any idea??
Hugs and God Bless!
Angel
-
HI...Let's meet at the HUDSON NEWSTAND......
-
OK...so maybe I am the only one who doesn't know...but where is the Hudson Newstand?
God Bless.....
-
You are not the only one Angel, but I figured I would stumble around until I found it (:
How is your new job?
-
Yes where is the Hidson News.
Is it inside the Javits Center. I am coming with Flash.
Will recheck tomorrow.
I don't think we need two threads.
Hugs,
Francine
-
Found out that the motorcycle show is also at the Javits. I wonder how much that costs, might have to check it out as well!
I don't know where the Hudson Newsstand is either, and I've been there lots!
I'll be coming up from work (Wall St. area) - I figure I'll put in a few hours before my paycheck goes away.
-
Looking forward to meeting everyone.
-
I just looked on line at the Javits center and there is 3 Hudsons news stands. 1 on the 3rd level and 2 on the 2nd level. Which one will we meet at?
-
There is one that is very prominent when you enter....especially to the south side of the building. I have never seen the other ones, will bring pink scarf too.
-
It is on the third floor....which is really the top floor.I can't cut and past the diagram, but you will see it.
It is the large free standing one.
-
btw, I will have cell on , but will not for much of the day since I have a meeting earlier.
-
Hello all,
I haven't checked in here in a bit. I've been in a really down mood lately. All my "anniversaries" are coming up. 1/29/09 was the day I was diagnosed with BC. On year ago. I find myself being really depressed about it. I am sure it is normal and I just have to process it all. But right now all I want to do is hibernate at home with my dog and cats. So I am going to bail on the boat show/get together. I'd rather meet all of you when I feel more like myself. I hope everyone understands. I just need to go through what I am going through right now. One year ago, I had no idea my entire life was about to change. Then, boom.
So I will continue to check these NY gtg threads and I am sure I will get to meet all of you at the next one. Really sorry.
-
It's ok LGO I understand.
I have had awful day. My cousin's stage 3C ovarian cancer came back, she just finished chemo 6 months ago, and my rad burns showed up. My birthday is monday, and I just wanted to make it past then with no burns.
and nobody has ever seen this newstand, which I thought was the most prominent feature.
I have the tickets, so if you change your mind come in.
I will say the energy of NYC may be good for you.
It makes me pull it together and put on my game face.
In any case maybe we will come out to LI this summer as a group .
-
LGO - I totally understand. I'd like nothing more than to stay in bed and watch TV for the foreseeable future. If you change your mind at the last minute, hope to meet you later today. If not, I'll look forward to meeting you in the future.
Cookie - I'm so sorry about your cousin and your burns!
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Edited for annoying typo.
