Pat, that sounds fun.  Last time I was in the Carribean, was at Guantanamo almost 6 years ago!  I would love to take DH to the Carribean.  I went 27 years ago and loved it.

Today has been slightly foggy with low cloud cover, and barely 40 degrees.  I am lucky my fingers can stillhit the right keys!

Meece- Yes it is fun in the Caribbean. One of my favorite places is Martinique..........although Aruba is very nice too. Guess it is hard to pick a favorite really.

Suzette- Have fun! If you take any day trips while there the ruins at tulum are interesting and the ocean there is absolutely breathtaking with it's beautiful colors.

Well............ Orlando was sunny today and made it to 59/60 depending on what station you had on. This weekend we are having some rain and more cold weather.

Very cold in OH and today we had snow most of the day.  It's about 12o now.  The cold is supposed to last a few more days.  It's amazing how Cincinnati is never prepared for snow and it isn't like it is a rare event here....everyone goes into a panic....grocery stores were a mess yesterday and they sold of out of things like bread and milk by evening.  Schools all operated on a 2 hr delay and then a lot of them  closed early.

18 degrees here this morning and 1/2 foot of new snow - no schools are open and I brought work home and am working from home today - in my PJs!  DS#2, who knows more than his parents, decided to come home from college for the weekend last night during the storm against his older siblings and parents advice.  He is 1 1/2 hours away and made it almost all the way home before landing in the ditch.  DH went and rescued him even though DH SWORE he wouldn't.  I gave DH "the LOOK" and he went and pulled him out of the ditch.  What a night - also a bad post treatment high anxiety night so this didn't help the situation.  Oh well, everything is wonderful today.

Pat - I will visit the ruins and beach at Tulum.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Suzette - right now DS#2 things he knows everything and his parents are old fashioned and know nothing.  By the time he is 21 or 22 he will be amazed at much his parents have learned while he was away at college!

Thanks Kathleen.  We need that reminder cause we forget sometimes since our older kids are so much older than he is!  I just hope he doesn't land in the ditch and sit there for the next three years trying to figure out why he landed in the ditch in the first place - LOL.

My area missed the snow last night, but you should see the footage from the upper elevation counties (Ashe, Avery, Watuga) about 30 miles away. They have had so much snow, the ski resorts are loving it but the road crews are getting tired. They had the bad ice storm Christmas Eve, some people didn't get their power back on for a week. My sister-in-law works for Blue Ridge Electric as a dispatcher and she was working 12 hour shifts trying to get the power back on.

The weather man is saying we will still have the sub-normal temps through the beginning of next week. My hubby made it last night to Milwaukee on his way to Clarksville TN before he had to shut down due to the bad roads. He is running out of driving hours for the week and will be stuck out this weekend.

    Sheila,

Your hubby is a trucker?  I can't imagine driving a truck in this horrid weather.  They're heros trying to get us our "stuff" to us in the bad conditions.

Yes he is a trucker, he has been driving for just over 4 years, with a safe driving award for all 4 years. You should see him when he leaves, he packs his truck with sodas, waters, food and paper products. He has a plug in cooler that keeps his drinks cold, a plug in hot pot to heat up water for cup of noodle soups, a tv with a dvd player and plenty of movies just in case he can't pick up a local channel where he is at. He keeps extra changes of clothing in the truck as well as blankets and cold weather gear. His truck is his 'home away from home'.  He is hoping to get to the headquarters of his trucking company in TN tonight before he runs out of hours and will spend the weekend at the terminal. Normally he does make it home every weekend but occasionally he is out for two weeks at a time. Hopefully he will get home next weekend for his birthday.

It's great that he's so well equipped in his home away from home.  My step-father was a trucker until he retired and my DS#1 plans to take the classes and licensing exam in Michigan to become a trucker sometime the first part of this year.  He's 28 with a wife and daughter and hates to leave them for long periods but his job is about to end (Michigan has an extremely high unemployment rate) and he's wanted to be a trucker since he was about 12 years old. I'll have to give him the tips you provided of what to pack when he starts.  I hope your hubby gets to TN safely and is able to be home for his birthday.

(sorry I got sidetracked and off topic but you ladies are so easy to chat with)

That's what this place is for, idle chit chat.  Even though the topic is weather, we all use weather as an icebreaker for more conversation.  It works doesn't it?

It hit 40 degrees a few minutes ago, but still grey and gloomy.  Yuk.

I hope you get some sunshine and it warms up for you soon Meece - even if it's chilly, the sun makes it easier to take.  Ok - this is my day working at home - work, work, work, read the discussion boards, work work, read the discussion boards, work, read the discussion boards - LOL.  I'm STILL getting more done at home than in the office cause there are no interruptions!

My husband drove a fuel truck when he was in the Army (late 80's). Our county has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state (16% I think) because of all the furniture companies shutting down the manufacturing facilities and sending jobs overseas. He lost his job at the factory and the TAA funding paid for his schooling. His birth father (he was adopted at age 3) works for this company and he helped my hubby get on with this company. My hubby didn't want to go with a local company because their freight was dependant on the furniture industry, he went with the company in TN, he drives about 50 miles one way to the hub that they have here in NC to get his truck every week. Some people can't believe he drives that far, but we compare it to the daily miles he drove to the factory on a weekly basis and it is about the same. Also the money isn't that bad, only have the separation to deal with.

right now, according to weather.com, it is 25 with a wind chill of 15. Sun is shining but still calling for a few flurries tonight through tomorrow.

suz, your day sounds like today at the office. orders are so slow, I check for new orders, key them then read the discussion board, answer the phone, read the discussion board, and so on and so forth . . . . .

My DS and his family are not looking forward to the separation but same thing here - our recession began about 6 years ago and our unemployment is due mainly to the auto industry collapse.  He's hoping to do a couple of years in other areas of the country - try to be home every week or two and then eventually, if our economy improves, have enough experience to be hired to do trucking routes in Michigan.

We're done with the snow, cloudy but bright so maybe we'll see some sun today (our area is one of the top 5 cloudy areas in the country - fun, fun) - it's 21 degrees with the wind chill of 10.  It hardly seems fair that NC and Michigan are about the same temp and wind chill.

Checking in from Fort Bragg, California. Clear blue skies, a slight breeze and according to the thermometer it's 58 degrees. I don't believe it! I have the blower on the fireplace on high and it's c-c-cold! As soon as the sun sets and the fog rolls in.....brrrrrrr! Time for another cup of tea!

Thanks, Elimar.  I know I feel better just looking at sunshine.  We had a bit better weather it was in the high 40s today.  We were outside at a friend's house and there was steam coming off his koi pond!  The skies stayed gray all day.

We came home and took a long nap, probably 2 hours!  I needed the rest.  Tomorrow we head out to go wine tasting. Mmmmmmmmmm  It won't matter what the temperature is.
