Baby it's cold outside

DH just came in to report that it is beginning to rain.

Meece- Yes, and it is nasty! Been in Florida my whole adult life and never recall a cold spell lasting soooooooooo long!

They say our winter is colder than usual here as well.  I hate to be cold so much that it all seems too cold to me.

I cannot believe it, the weather guesser said it would be in the 70s today.  The morning commute was heavy fog.  Now at 1:00 we have pretty blue skies and it is in the mid to upper 50s.  No coat for me today...yet.

This morning I woke up to 12 degrees and out of Kerosene, but this afternoon closer to normal temp about 40 (normal lows low 30's normal highs mid 50's). Calling for lows in the 20's again tonight and chance of snow showers tonight and tomorrow. the snow is still hanging on in the shady parts of the yard from the Dec 18th heavy snow fall not counting where it was piled up from the snow plows in the parking lots.

Oh, 12 degrees brrrrrrrrrrr.  Sun is still shining and sky is blue with light whispy white clouds.

You all do not know how important the weather IS in my life right now.This is my first cancer diag and I decided to get a jump on the "Chemo and going bald" thang and had my hair shaved off this week. This was before I remembered that I live on an island off of North Carolina, no one sells warm hats here because we don't need them-until now. I woke up to 25 degree weather and a dry Nor'easter blasting down upon me. Crikey, I have never been so cold in my life. I had NO idea that hair was a true headwarmer (duh???!) and now I wrapped on the couch and wearing my two Springer Spaniels on my head. Where is the dignity?? Blessings to all

I understand about the lack of hair and being cold (many of us do).  My head was shaved in June and I was cold all summer - had to wear hats inside and cover my head with a small soft blanket at night.  Now in the dead of winter in Michigan, even though the hair is growing in slowly, I'm even colder. 

Good luck finding a hat.  My oncology office has a basket full of hats that nice people knit and I took a couple of those hats - they've been so wonderful to wear.  Maybe your oncology office has something like that too.

I bought a little beanie, kind of like they put on newborns in the hospital, and  wore it to bed to keep my head warm. I bought it where I bought my wigs, it was a place especially for BC patients.

It's minus 2 celsius here in Edmonton. Really quite balmy for this time of year. We Canadians love to talk abot the weather from coast to coast!

Just saw frozen orange groves in Florida on the news.

I saw that as well.  We had a freeze a couple of years ago that took out a lot of our oranges.  I think our governator even declared a state of emergency.  A lot of farm workers lost their jobs over it.

Here in the land down under we are experiencing temperatures of 102 degrees.

Would happily swap with you all at the moment....heatwave and hot flushes just don't go together.

That's right, you are in the middle of Summer.  It has been about a year since that horrible wildfire down there, hasn't it?  Here in CA, Summer and wildfires go hand in hand.  I would have a hard time getting into the Christmas mood with all the association with snow and cold weather, and go outside and it's in the 100s.  When I grew up, people thought it was cute to take tumbleweeds and stack them, paint them white and make a snow man out of them!

I can't be sure we got high into the 70s yesterday, but it was very comfortable outdoors.

I have been told you lose 80 or 90% of your body heat through your head.  Must be true!

Vivvy - I don't like weather extremes in either direction.  But you are right - it is far easier to keep adding layers of clothes in the winter than taking it all off in the summer and be subject to arrest.

I have heard the same thing.  That's why they put beanies on newborns right away.  I need to live somewhere that the temperature stays around 85 year round.

Yup, that is why they put caps on the babies - to keep them warm - when I worked in the NICU/Nursery I'd always wash the babies bodies first get clean water and wash their heads last and then immediately cover their heads with a towel so they wouldn't be so cold during bath time!  Now I know how they felt with no or very little hair to cover their little heads!

It was 6 degrees this morning but the snow has finally stopped!  The drive into work this morning was so much better than it's been the last week.  We're supposed to start our "January thaw" tomorrow with several days in the upper 30s and low 40s.  Looks like my plane will take off next Tuesday without weather delay and I'll be in sunny Cancun in a week!

Its warmed up here in Canada this week but I have already used up a whole load of firewood this year in the family room. Found the heating bill is much lower this year so it is worth it.

Suzette enjoy Cancun we just got back before xmas.

Mumayan, where did you stay?  We're staying at an All Inclusive resort outside of Playa Del Carmen.  Glad Canada has warmed up and hope we warm up before our next Alberta Clipper decends.

Last stay was at the Princess resort.Time before we stayed at BlueBay.If you eat the food at the resort you will be fine just don't eat in other establishments.I even managed to stay healthy there in Mexico between chemo treatments.My husband used to take me on trips so I didnot have a chance to get depressed.

Here I spent money on a swimming prosthesis and all I needed was a coconut!  I'll have to try to get a picture like that and share when I get back!

Ladies be careful when you are traveling outside US, its considered fruit and they will just pull it out from you.  lol

I was bringing this beautiful mango back from the Caribbean, they didn't even let me on the plane, I begged her almost in tears. She told me I could always eat it before boarding, she took it away and threw it in the garbage,

I guess you could use the ones which are registered as a "seed"   like the ones they sell in Hawaii to "grow your own.  Of course once they sprout we might look a little strange.
