Happy Hanukkah. Merry Christmas. I met 3 of my chemo buddies at Tyson's Galleria, Wildfire restaurant on Sunday. The apple pie dessert was HUGE and heavenly. Then I found a bathrobe (which I desperately needed) at 60% off.
2 weeks till Christmas and I should get to the mall again... If only the doctor would write a Rx for "retail therapy".... Hugs and Blessings for all.

Sharon, I ended up going to Hopkins. A little drive, but I found it worth it.

JENMOIRE - It's actually me who has been coordinating the luncheons, we'd love to have you. Looking forward to seeing you!!
LADIES - Start thinking about our location, I know there is a PFChangs in the same center as RioGrande and also a Coastal Flats, how does either of those sound???
Let me hear your input. HUGS, Dawn

Hi Ladies - Been out of touch because I'm trying to stop thinking about breast cancer 24-7! I still think about it daily, but not how I use to.
I unfortunately (well not really when you see why) can't make it to the lunch this month. I am joining my husband on his all-expense paid, all-inclusive company trip to Cancun for a few days! W00t w00t! I want to get AWAY from these frigid cold temperatures and lay out on the beach and sunbathe and drink cocktails! Hopefully the NEXT month I will be able to join you all. I can't wait to hear everyone's updates and see how everyone looks! Be sure to send out pictures again after the January lunch.
I wish you all much better health and happiness in 2010! I will be walking in the Avon walk in May...anyone else going to be there??
Hugs,
Angela

Welcome, jenmoire! There are lots of really nice women in this area. I've been to two lunches so far and have enjoyed them quite a bit. Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to make the one on the 24th. My daughter and I are going to the Center for the Arts at George Mason U. to see the "Band of the Irish Guards and the Pipes and Drums of the Royal Regiment of Scotland." They come every year and every year I think about going and never do, and this year I decided to Just do it! I'm feeling that way a lot more about life now. Cancun sure sounds good to me, Angela. Have a great time!

I do not think I can make it Jan 24, but I wish everyone a super duper New Year and peace and health and blessings, Nancy

Good Morninig Ladies - Maybe we should skip to February so that more can make it. I hate to not be able to see you Angela, Becky and Nancy. Are you guys around in February? HUGS, Dawn

Hi all,
I am just starting this journey, would like to know if anyone has been treated at va hosp center in Arlington? I have been diagnosed with IDC, have seen the surgeon and radiologist, meet with Doctor to discuss chemo today. I would love to hear anything anyone knows about this facility. Seems like everyone has a lot of experience, and all with whom I've spoken have been very helpful and seemed to care about my situation. Any particularly good doctors, any bad ones?
Thanks for any info you have.
-
1VAMOM - I wasn't treated there as I have Kaiser insurance but I did go there for an "outside" opinion and saw both a surgeon and oncologist who my friend had used from there. I'd be happy to talk to you, if you'd like to chat, PM me and I'll send you my phone number. Let me know, all the best. HUGS, Dawn

Don't cancel January on my account. Actually the 24th is my birthday, so it is a family day. Not that I do not consider each of you my adopted sisters...
All my treatments and surgery were at Georgetown University Hospital, on which I can comment as a 5 star facility, except for traffic and parking, although there is a valet service.

I just found this link if anyone wants to participate: NOT an advertisement:

Hello to all. I am new here to this forum and also to NOVA. I would love to go to lunch when you choose a date and also speak to anyone who can help me decide between implants and DIEP. For background: Diagnosed with ovarian cancer June 19 (following hysterectomy week before). Came to NOVA 4 days later to meet gyn-oncol and he did surgery next day (was in the process of moving here). Been here ever since. Finished chemo November and ready for PBM in next couple of months (as soon as I choose reconstruction method).
-
Hi Nova gals! Happy New Year to you all.
I have an email list outside of bc.org if anyone would like to be included. Please PM me your email address and name and I will get you added!
I am having my exchange surgery (I hope) this Monday.....One of my TE's failed and I am either going straight to implants or getting another TE put in and still have my exchange 2/19. My last fill was last week so I am nervous about going straight to implant so quickly.
Welcome to our newbies.....sorry you had to join this club but know that there are wonderful women on these boards to get you through your treatments.
hugs
Diane

Hi Girlies!
I'm so excited to see some NOVA-ers on this site! To "didle20Diane" (Diane) I tried to PM you but wasn't able (probably my error - I'm a newbie). Would love to organize a get-together ... gosh I have been needing this...GiGi

Hi There
Is there any way you can be seen at John's Hopkins Breast Center? I highly recommend Dr. Theodore Tsengaris (breast surgeon) and Dr. Antonio Wolff (oncologist) and Dr. Asrari (radiation oncology). All these people do is breast cancer. Its incredible, best decision I ever made in my life. Chemo is like a prescription & can be done anywhere, but radiation ususally is best to be done where you are receiving treatment since it is much more specific. I was going to go with a reputable surgeon and group in NOVA / DC area, but I am SO glad I went with Hopkins. PM me if you want specific info. Its your life.... make sure you feel 100% confident about the health professionals you choose!! - Regina

Regina, I just sent you a PM with my email address! If you click on my name it should give you the option to send a message to me!
Hugs

OK NOVA ladies - Let's shoot for Sundy February 28th, for our next get together. Somewhere in Fairfax again, near the Fair Oaks Mall seems to be a central locatin for everyone. PF Changs or Coastal Flats - any votes from you guys. I'll check back in to see what ya'all think.
HUGS, Dawn

I'd add my support to Johns Hopkins. I had my mastectomy, and will have my reconstruction there. They have always been wonderful. I had a different breast surgeon, but I think the whole staff is incredible.
