cold (lows 20's highs 40's) and windy here in the Foothills of NC. we still have some snow from the 12 inches of snow we got on the 18th. Calling for icy conditions tomorrow afternoon through Thursday. Upper elevations (Watauga county) had severe ice storm on Christmas day (we had cold rain) and areas are just now getting power back just in time for the ice storm this week.

Blondie, perhaps someone needed it for shelter from the wind.

Snuggle up by the fire, Sheila.  An ice storm sounds miserably cold!

Just was on the phone with a friend I grew up with in Northern Vermont.  It's zero there right now with a stiff wind, wind chill of -30, and blowing snow.  I was born in that weather, so almost everything else is tropical.

Of course, she had to dig out the generator as they live off the grid, plow out the Class 4 road, and stoke up the wood fire.  She managed to sever the generator wires in the process so something fun for her plumber husband when he gets home.  At least the battery cells are charged so they have lights.

So just above freezing in Seattle is balmy.  Off for my three mile walk in a couple as well as hitting a couple of the shops Smile

Reporting in from mid Michigan - it's currently 21 degrees - cold today but we had rare winter sunshine which makes the cold so much more tolerable.  Only an inch of snow on the ground but I hear the New Year's weekend is going to be very cold and snowy - Yuk.  I miss my long hair in this kind of weatherFrown

Three weeks until DH and I celebrate a belated 30th anniversary and head to Cancun/Playa Del Mar for a week - can't wait for the warmth.

Beautiful sunny day here in Maine today.  I was babysitting a freind's 2 boys today, we spent some time out on the school playground sledding--about 20 minutes.  It was about 12 degrees with about 20 mph wind with gusts to 40-50 mph.  Talk about cold!!!!  Currently, 8 degrees, same wind, I think the wind chill is around -10 or so .  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Wow!  You guys have it rough.  The sun peeked out here around 2ish, but then went back behind the gray haze.  It's somewhere in the 40s right now.  I was just our in my green house and it was 57 degrees.  I absolutely hate the wind.  I don't like my hair blowing in my face, I don't like to be cold.  I am so picky!

Wow, if I only had vacation time!

It began lightly raining around 1:30 this morning.  The weather-guessers on tv were right.  Not sure how long they expect it to hang around.  I turn on the news at 6:00 so I can get the weather to plan what I will be wearing.

I'm going to visualize being in Orlando with hmm!  In reality East Lansing, Mi. is cloudy (as usual), and 21 with a 12 degree wind chill.  I'll crank my heater up in my office, close my eyes and dream of balmy conditions.

the weather guesser said our rain would be around most of the day.  Well, it lasted until about 8:00 am.  We still have clouds, just no precipitation.  We really need the rain here.  Moreso, though, we need the snow in the higher elevations to impact the snow pack.

More from Orlando.............. tomorrow will be close to 80. However, this will be followed by days of chilly temps.

Rain never did start up again, but I checked and we got 3/10s" here.  We could use a lot more.  I heard that the Sierra Snow Pack is still below normal.

We are looking at fog in the morning and a mix of clouds and sun during the morning which will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High 58F. Winds light and variable.

Got up this morning with a layer of frozen rain under a light coat of icy snow. Not enough to hamper the road conditions in my area but I had to scrape my car window before leaving for work (the spray on ice melt didn't work on the snow). I knew that the snow from the 18th was waiting around for more. May get more of the same tonight.

I wouldn't know how to function with snow on the ground for weeks.

Normally the snow we get in the foothills don't last more than a day, we just got a poop-load (12+ inches) of snow on the 18th and the temps have stayed colder than normal preventing a complete melt. It wasn't covering the ground 100% just in the shaded areas. the upper elevations (20 miles from me) have ski slopes that open from around Thanksgiving through March (if the temps are low enough to make snow).

    Meece - B or D - I don't mlind either - I LOVE ice cream.

    Sandy - me too!

Well we got another snow fall today - only about an inch.  It is still December and I am already sick of it!  The only snow I like is in mid-March that has great big fluffy snowflakes that sticks to every tree and bush because I know the sun will come, temperatures will rise and snow will be gone!

Yes, I was stuck inside for several days with the last blizzard but I would not take a chance on trying to walk on ice or snow.  I have enough trouble staying upright on dry surfaces.

If you happen to be watching the Rose Parade you will see the weather we are being forced to endure  I hope to get outdoors this weekend and get some garden chores done.

I'm watching the Rose Bowl pregame right now.  It looks like an absolutely gorgeous day there.  Meece, I'm envious of your weather ; )

I'm sitting in my warm home staying inside and away from our cloudy 21 degree day.

    Happy New Year Everyone.

As I was taking down the Christmas decorations yesterday, I had the heater turned off, and left the back door opened, because I was working up a sweat!

I'm glad there is nice weather somewhere and that you're enjoying it Meece.  Our heat has been running continuously all night with zero temps and below zero wind chills.  I really DISLIKE winter in Michigan.

I am not a winter-type person.  I would like my temps to be consistently 85ish.  Still could swim if I wanted, but not too warm.

You know what irritates me around here is:

We have hot weather in the Summer, not uncommon for 110 degrees plus.  We are reminded every year how drought is looming, we need rain!  "It's too hot, when will we get rain?" Then when we get rain, the weather-guessers say "Good news, the rain will be out of here by Tuesday." "When are we going to see sun again?" "I'm tired of the rain."  Then they report "We are well below normal precipitation levels" "The snow pack is not enough to get us through the summer."

FAct is, we need a certain amount of rain each year to sustain our water table.  Unless we have the "El Nino" effect, and too much rain for our ground to absorb, I think they need to stop complaining.

Meece....I'm not a winter person either.

Its 20 degree right now and winds are from west 16 MPH. No snow on the ground or in the sky.

This is really interfering my only exercise, walking.
