Northern New Jersey Sisters??

I've met 3 top rated oncologists in NY/NJ area and I must say I was not very impressed with any of them. Maybe its because when we get BC we research everything ourselves so well that the doctors have little value to add?
-
Are you happy with the one you ended up with? How happy are you at Sloan? I sometimes wonder if I should have ended up there being so close to the city...it is wonderful to be in an area with so many excellent cancer centers but I still always second guess myself as to the decision that I made to stay local at Hackensack.
-
I'm happy with the one I am getting treatment from. She is at a community hospital, Overlook in Summit. My husband thinks she is a drama queen and quite inflexible :-)
I must say I'd have loved to get chemo at Sloan in NJ but I could not because they finished their allotted numbers for clinical trial ECOG 5103 I wanted to join.
Hackensack is a great cancer care hospital. Several people told me to go there but I didn't want to go that far.
-
One of my good friends is in Summit so I know exactly where Overlook is.
We are very lucky to have so many options. It kills me to read about these women who are driving hours for a doctors appt and treatments.
-
I hear you. Much of Midwest USA is like that.
-
Hi,
Just a reminder:
Friday is our get together at Bensi at the Paramus Park Mall in NJ at 1 pm. I'm coming -
who else is?
-
Wish I could come but I work during the day. Perhaps we could meet another day and time also.
EWB I am about 15 minutes from you!
-
Hi Candie,
We would like to try for monthly get togethers. Maybe next month on a weekend day. What is your availablity for November?
-
I will be there on Friday.....lets try and set up something monthly...I am game for anything!!
-
My side effects after AC #2 are killing me. Sorry not this time. Maybe next.
-
Feel better
-
Hope to. Thanks.
-
missed a lot. I wil not be able to come on Friday but would love to meet up another time. I am being treated at St Barnabas in Livingston, Rick Michaelson is my onc. Really happy there.
-
have a drink for me! wish I could be there. Still very sore.
-
Dear Suz42, are your sores in the mouth or somewhere else? Have you tried magic mouth wash? It works great.
Dear EWB, thanks for sharing your info.
-
no sore from surgery....but interested in the mouth wash, I have had trouble with mouth sores my whole life. Can not imagine what will happen during chemo.
Thanks
have a beautiful day!
-
I'm planning to be there on Friday, but it has been over 25 years since I've been to Paramus Park, (although I spent lots of time there shortly after it opened). It would help to know about where Bensi is so I have some idea where to park.
-
Suz I've always been prone to canker sores but didn't get any during chemo!
-
Bensi is on the rt. 17 side. sort of near Macy's . It is really not that big of a mall so no matter where you park you will be fine. It is very visable from the parking lot since it is able to be open on Sunday's when the rest of the mall is closed.
Is it just the 3 of us????
-
EWB, that's where I go. Stuart Leitner is my onc. I love all the people there. I am nearly 3 years post treatment. Good luck to you!
Desny, any Sat but the 28th in Nov.
Hugs to you, Unklez
-
Anyone want to pick the next date and location of our meeting? I chose the one for
tomorrow. I am not able on 11/1 or 11/21. Lunch or dinner is fine with me.
Hope to see you - Shelley and PatMom tomorrow. I thought there was one other? Oh, Cherneski! Are you coming???
1 p.m. at Bensi's at the Paramus Park Mall- Yes!
Hugs to all and thoughts for speedy recoveries.
-
Candi- what a small world. If I understand correctly - you are finished w/treatment? Do you still go to St B's? How are you feeling?
Hope you all have a great lunch! Is the next lunch at Paramus Park or some place else? Maybe Morris County or Willowbrook Mall area for those coming from the west/south?
-
Might be able to make it tomorrow! Chemo aftermath hasn't been as bad this time. Will be a game time decision... if I do come, I'll be the one with the 2 year old LOL
-
Lauren3 - hope to meet you tomorrow!
-
Okay, It looks like we are set. Let's meet at the inside mall entrance to Bensi. It is a very casual place so you can basically wear whatever you want. Here is a photo of me so who ever sees me first please come over!!! I think I will be wearing jeans, boots and a muddy colored tye dyed shirt. Cant wait to see you guys!!!!
-
have fun! Post pics if you can.
-
Shelly,
I am 5'2" blonde with some gray. Blue eyes. I will be looking for you inside the Mall entrance to Bensi's. Don't know what I'm wearing yet. I understand it may rain tomorrow. I may bundle up and wear my black raincoat. So sorry to hear our heatwave is over.
-
I had all intentions of coming! I want to come! I am not sick, I have nothing else to do so I should be able to come right? Nope sorry ladies as much as I WANT to come, I cant. My car decided to start making this horrible clunking almost broken sound in the rear, so I have to get it into the shop. I have a DR. appointment on Monday and need to be able to get there. I dont have the money to get it into the shop till Tuesday of next week so please keep your fingers crossed for me that the car makes it to onc. on Monday.
Have a blast! Hopefully I can make it next time. If I figure something out between now and then I will see you there, but I doubt it. And trust me I need it right now. UGGG
-
Oh Deb- that totally sucks!!!! I thought for sure you would make it. I do hope your car makes it so you can get to the onc without a problem. Good luck and keep us updated!!
-
HI ladies! Sorry I haven't been posting in a while. I plan to come tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
