Hey Cristl...I had straight brown/auburn hair before chemo and although it came back wavy at first (and several nondescript colors Surprised), it went back to being straight and fine, like a baby's and like yours, within the first year. I've been having blong highlights ever since and have begun to grow it as looooong as possible. But my first year was rough until I figured out what looked best on me. I found that asking my stylist to cut it in a "cute boy style" did the trick and I perked it up by using a strong styling gel to spike the front/bangs a bit. It really did look pretty cute and if I ever get over my obsession with long hair, I'd go back to that style.

Thanks for the nail tips (pun intended?), you guys. I'm gonna check out the Sally Hansen shades too. And Sheila, special thanks for describing your routine. That would work well for me because, although I want to look stunning in every way, I'm too impatient to sit still for anything, never mind several coats of nail polish. So one-a-day might suit me perfectly!

Another question now...eye shadow...I've been using a mineral shadow by Neutrogena and am almost out. Of course, I can't find it anymore...ugh. It's the perfect shade for me though and brightens my eyes quite a bit. It's called sand and is between pale yellow and beige. Does anyone know of a similar shade by another maker?

Marin, if I hadn't asked the nail tech the best way to get good looking polish at home I wouldn't have known her trick, so it isn't entirely my method. I just started wearing polish more consistantly last year after realizing that my nails were looking good enough to show off and after paying for a manicure that afterwards I thought, 'Wow, I could have done this at home' and before I got home a couple of nails messed up from not drying long enough. (I didn't ask her, I asked another friend how to do it) Although I do have a trouble thumb nail that won't grow and occasionally get back on the nail biting wagon briefly. When I do that, I forget the polish until they grow back to a decent length. Right now they are between an med length and long length. I need to trim a couple, but when I start trimming them is when I start biting them again Yell.

Tutti Frutti, reporting in for duty.  HaHa.  Carmen Miranda, indeed.  You are so cute!

Am getting ready to go in to Boston today for a consult and to meet ONE OF US!!!  I am so excited to be meeting Kathi!  Too bad we cannot play with makeup today.  But, we shall shop.  Maybe a stop at a cosmetics counter???

Am trying to get used to typing on my mini netbook, but it is slow going.  If I do a banana, you'll know why. LOL

How the heck does your hair grow that MUCH!?!

I thought it grew rather slowly actually. In that pic, the hair is not as long as it looks (the area near the crown seemed to grow or appear the longest) - the clips can barely hold it back as the hair is slipping through them. the pic may also have been taken at the end of September, so 10 month-old hair, instead of 9 month maybe? Another 1/2 inch. ha.

Wow thanks for the posts ladies!  I am trying to be patient but it is so hard.  Wow Raye... you look pretty no matter what length it is!  Well, I will check back in after my tiny trim today.  We will see what he comes up with.  I have a feeling though that I wont be parting with the wig anytime soon.

Raye, you're just too adorable! I remember well when you first came on the boards and, after losing your hair, posting the most gorgeous pic of your shining dome. And you were freakin' cute even then! Still, hair is ALWAYS better, yes?

I'm so jealous of Tina & Kathi meeting up in Boston! I would so love for all of us make-up chicas to get together and raid the Sephoras and Ultas and MAC, etc. stores in a big town! Who could have predicted that this little thread would have continued on so long and helped us to share so much?!

Nails are ready for the weekend though I used ONE coat of Orly "Seashell." It actually looks pretty good! No wakeboarding yet since I've yet to get my board. Going Sunday to have the boots fitted and fork over the $$$. I'm psyched! Just pray that I don't fracture my entire body first time out!

Girls, did you see  this article online?  About the dangers of bikini waxing.  Some pointers on how not to die from a wax job.

    http://health.msn.com/health-topics/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100240299&gt1=31036

    Gave me the chills.

Tina the article does make me shiver-- but thats the reasons NJ and NY are trying to have Brazillian waxing banned...

    Okay, product report.

When I was with Kathi the other day I was complaining about my frizzy hair.  She told me her hairdresser had given her the tip to use a tiny tad of Alberto VO5 to smooth down dry frizzies.  I went out today and bought some.

Guess what?  Using just an eensy weensy bit, rubbed between the palms so you hardly would know it was there, worked!!!  An old-fashioned remedy, and cheap, too.

Thanks, Kathi, and thank your hairdresser for me.

Waxing:  I never conjured up the nerve to do it, myself, and surely won't try it now.  As you say, trim and shave.  So what if it's scratchy the next day?

I haven't been waxed either. Seabreeze after a shave works wonders on any little bumps too.

There are many products you can use, I use one by Suave- antifrizz stuff. A very tiny bit helps w/frizz and allows me to encourage curls. Just small bit rub between palms and run thru hair (I like head upside down so I can get everywhere). Also find that don't want to rub/towel dry hair, this seems to encourage fast dry frizz on top layer of hair.

Well, I'll keep waxing, y'all, because I love how it makes me feel (not to mention the sexual benefits Cool)! But maybe since I had the area lasered first (right after chemo when it started coming back), it's safer for me. In any event, that article makes me wonder why it's okay to wax every other body part, but not the pubis. Sorry to be political, but it sounds like another case of insinuating that women's genitals are "dirty" even though they're saying they should be kept naturally hairy. Seriously, why don't women get skin infections from waxing their underarms (where there's tons of sweat and bacteria) or their faces?

    Okay, off my soapbox Sealed!

Marin, I think it's the 'dark, damp place' thing they are worried about in the groin.

I love the purology anti frizz smoothing serum. It by far blows away all the frizz ease products on the market, b/c it's not too thick and greasy.

I'm just gonna have to try them all.

Has anyone heard of Miracle 7?

Marin, I freely admit I do not have the same requirements as you.  Kiss  Oh, and the pubis is okay to wax as far as I can tell but it's the the tender parts that are, well, tender.  Wink    I think if I "did" them I'd have the same reaction I had the first time I rode horseback.............HeHe.

Or falling on the bar of your brother's bicycle. ouch.

Yes, the pubis should be fine - I agree that they are concerned with the bacteria into the other areas and that bacteria getting into a waxed spot and causing an infection. Not hard to imagine. Funny how the conversation goes back and forth between the frizzies and waxing - maybe it's my strange sense of humor.

Today, I splurged and bought a nice hair straightener - I hope I do not regret it. It is called BabyBliss? and has 1 1/4 plates in blue.

The plates are silver in color - I meant that the flat iron itself is a pretty blue. At least I didn't type that a bought a nice banana to straighten my hair.

Here I was thinking the hair straightener was a product/goop kind of straightener and could NOT figure out why there were plates (think round dinner plates) and how they got them into in the tube  Undecided

    You girls crack me up!

I think I mentioned that I re-ordered all the Deva Care/Curl products, the No-Poo, the One Conditioner and the AnGell.  Well, I am going to give myself a pre-poo Tongue out 1/2 hour conditioner treatment, then wash as usual.  I'll let you know how it goes.

In the meantime, I will look for the purology.  Maybe they have it at sephora.  I'll check CVS for the Suave, too.  While I was there to buy the VO5, I noticed another oldie product, Vitapointe.  Anyone have any info on that one?

One thing I LOVE about the VO5 is that it smells like lanolin.  I'm a spinner and I LOVE the smell of sheep's fleece in the raw.  Ummmmmm. All that lanolin.

Has anyone seen a tiny, travel curling iron?  I know they have travel straighteners but haven't seen the curling irons.  I pack VERY light and I'm planning ahead for my trip at the end of October.  One bag, no checking luggage, for five nights.  Ya gotta be creative!

Tina, several years ago my cousin came to visit and she had a cordless travel curling iron that was either butane heated or battery. I did a google search and found this on Amazon. I don't remember which one she had but there are several on this page. http://www.amazon.com/Braun-C21-Smoothstyler-Cordless-Curling/dp/B0019FC8EG/ref=pd_sbs_a_1

This one is the Braun and there is another suggested that is Conair. Although the comments about the Conair (butane fuel cell) is it is not allowed on airplanes.
