Tina, you crack ME up! You want to travel light, but you`ll pack a hair straightener! hehehehhe

Sheila, good point about the carry-on and butane.

Raye, it must make you laugh to see what differenent pages we are all on when we read your post. (I was thinking a goo of sorts, too!)

No, not a straightener, a CURLER.  Anyway, it's all about priorities. LOL  Two pair of underwear that can be washed every night leave space for the curling iron.  Yes!

Sheila, thanks for the link.  I will investigate.  If all else fails, I will mail one to my friend who is driving to the destination rather than flying.  She can pack it with her stuff, then mail back to me after vacation.

My hair looks like crap.  I am liking it best after using the hot rollers except it is so poufy on top.  It will have to grow longer top layers before that can be remedied.  Maybe by late October????

I am thinking that I am experiencing more hair fallout than I used to and I'm wondering if it is leftover effects of chemo on the hair follicles.  (Had A/C, no others or Tamox or Arimidex)  As it is, you know I have been complaining of the eyelash fallout every three months for the last two years.  I have to wonder if the dome hair isn't going through some hateful cycle.  Thank g-d I started out with very thick hair.  I'd be a baldy-sour by now, otherwise.  I think I"ll start taking Biotin in large doses again and see what gives.

Tina Is the hair breaking or falling out? If you have thinning hair, breaking hair, or shedding hair- using all those hot tools like a curling iron is NOT GOOD. Have you tried Nioxin products?

I think you have to let it grow out a bit, and definitely play with some product to find what works best.

Raye did you get a ceramic flat iron? I got one... which is kind of silly b/c I never straighten my hair on my own, but I like to pull it in a low pony tail, and take a huge sweeping bang-- hit it with the flat iron, and I love it!

Cannot tell if it's thinning because of the layers, which is a new thing for me and that the hairdresser has been thinning it to take bulk out.  I guess if she is thinning it it means it isn't already thin.

I think it's falling by the roots, not breaking.  I always did shed a LOT but it seems more lately.

Have not tried Nioxin.  Is it good for colored hair?  Maybe I should say color-treated hair.  I just bought a s---load of my DevaCare products.  I'm going to let them work for a while to see how my hair responds.

When  I go for my haircut this week I'm going to tell her no more thinning, just an inch or so off the bottom layer.

Did someone mention a tiny hair straightner?  I just finished chemo in Jan09 and my hair is coming back so slow......  AND CURLY.  Ugh!  I have no idea what to do with it.  I am use to longer, straight hair.  Now it is coming in dark brown and curly.  I keep wearing my wig and it is over 100 degrees here in Houston.

Yes, Sally's has a tiny travel straightening iron, whatever you call it.

My curls lasted for about 2 years, very, very gradually returning to my normal wavy-ish mop.  You just never know.  With some people it comes back stick straight!

Actually, I now miss my curls.  Life was so much easier with them.

Tina - does you hair seem thin to you or do you just notice a lot coming out in the shower? The reason I ask is that my hair sheds a lot during the summer months and I think it may have something to do with being out in the sun? Just a suggestion. I too have the thinning lashes every six months or so - they either break off or just come out because the lashes do get noticeably thinner.

Beth - my flat iron is titanium - works fine. I used it this morning, but will not use it every day - as you menetioned -  these devices are so hard on the hair.

Beth, I checked all fallen out strands and they have the root so, no, it is not breaking off.  Just shedding.

Raye, no, it's not thin although it is thinner than in my YUT!!!  I think I could still say it's fairly thick.  It has ALWAYS shed alot but it seems it is shedding more recently.  I swear it is doing what my eyelashes have been doing although since the growth cycle of head hair is so much longer than eyelash hair the overall fallout pattern is different.

It is only noticeable when I wash my hair.  Of course, since it's long now it looks like a lot more hair, I suppose.  Maybe I am making a mountain out of a molehill.  Sigh.

I think I'll color it today.  Laughing

What is a YUT? Something hairy? Not familiar with that term.

Anyway, I think you are just having some summer shedding. I've always had a lot of summer shedding, especially after a week or weekened in the sun. Also, I don't comb or brush mine, just use fingers, so that hairs don't get to come out until I shower or blow dry.

    How fun! What color?

Did you never see the movie My Cousin Vinnie?  With Danny DeVito?   Defending the "yuts?"  You gotta see it.

I will be positive and think the shedding is only seasonal.  Blah.  It comes out when I condition it as I run my fingers through to apply and rinse out the conditioner.  I am very gentle, too.  A bit more falls out when I comb and style but nothing like when it's wet and ***I'm not tugging.***

Color hopes to be as natural as possible, a blend of neutral and ash blonde to cover the grays.

I see you have another new avatar.  Your hair looks great!

No, I've never seen the movie - and the thought did cross my mind that maybe you were talking about my cousin vinnie and the yuts, but I thought yuts meant the plural of you "yous", so it didn't make sense. YOUTH. gotcha.

Thanks! Yes, I used my new straight iron and had to snap a pic. And speaking of, when I straighten my hair, A LOT of hair falls onto the counter in the bathroom - so there you go. Let's think positive - natural shedding. Seasonal.

    Happy coloring.

As soon as I saw yuts, giggled thinking of the scene. You must see the movie..I could watch it everyday (weel truth be told, I have)  and not get tired of it.

With the straight iron be sure to use some kind of product..they make some specially for use w the iron. It helps protect the hair from heat, condition it  etc.

new picture looks great!. I am trying to deal with curls that want to be friz blah

Just read in InStyle about St.Tropez self-tanners being almost odor-free because of some patented odor masking technology.

"Our innovative AromaguardTM fragrance technology eliminates the tell-tale self tan aroma by a minimum of 70% and instead gives a beautiful subtle, yet refreshing fragrance."

Has anyone tried this and is it all it says it is?  Where can you buy it?  Only online?

I got this new covergirl mascara...it's in some white tube called exactinglights or some crap like that. This is what I've deduced from trying 50 million brands of mascara in the last few months.

It's all about THE WAND!!! If you have long lashes and need to thicken, and make them look full, then you need a big wand, like in the Loreal Double Extend... But if you need to lengthen, and get even the tiniest lashes, then you need one of the new wands- like on the max factor and covergirl brands. I still by far think Loreal makes the best mascara hands down.

I do want to try revlons lash stiletto though. I have been doing my makeup more in the last couple of weeks then in the last few years, and I forgot how great it makes my face look. One of the girls I hired at my new job, used to work for me, and she mentioned that she used to love the way I did my eye makeup-- so I started going back to using the MAC color palettes, and black liner, and so many people have complimented my makeup. For the summer I am using the miami sunset bronzer shimmer strips from physicians formula. It really gives the face an incredible glow!!!

Hey chicas! Been awhile, but I'm working on my wakeboarding (and, of course, my tan!)! Still lovin' the Aveeno tinted moisturizer and have been using "eyebrightener" by Physicians Formula in "Natural Eyelight." It really does brighten up my look!

Also still awaiting word from my insurance company on funding the Latisse. Both my onc and my PS have put in a plea for me, so if Blue Cross goes for it, I might have more to say about mascara and such. As it is, I do the best I can with a little Maybelline, but its pathetic compared with my gorgeous pre-bc loooooong, thick lashes. Sigh......

Hi, lady.  You're looking quite cute in that avatar.  Miss Kitty is, too.

Speaking of tanning, I just ordered that St.Tropez Gradual Self-Tanning Mousse with the "Aromaguard."  Hmmmph.  We shall see.  Anyway, I really need to use a tanner as my legs are such a sickly white I'm ashamed to wear shorts.

After I rinsed my face this morning I was starting to put on moisturizer when I remembered I had some Aubreys Organics (Sea Buckthorn http://www.aubrey-organics.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=760 )under the sink and it has a slight yellow tinge to it because of the ingredients.  So, I pulled it out and slapped it on instead of the usual stuff.  Viola!  A tiny tan.  Not much, but a definite glow.  Betta dan nuttin, I say.  Wink

Why thank you, m'am! The kitty cat is Mittens and she belongs to my bf. She's what is known as a "kitler"...a cat with the little "moustache" a la Hitler. No offense to the cats, though, everyone loves them. Check out this website dedicated to Kitlers: http://www.catsthatlooklikehitler.com/cgi-bin/seigmiaow.pl Pretty cute, huh?

So here's a news flash that I read about in Oprah magazine... a website where you can order a ton of makeup, nail polish, etc., much of it for ONE FREAKIN' DOLLAR per item. Here it is:

    Look at all those shades!

Has anyone tried that new anti-frizz stuff created by the MIT crew?  Was just looking at it on sephora's site and am tempted to try some.  NO silicone in it.  A new technology.  Pricey, though.

Edited to add link:  http://thebeautybrains.com/2009/01/17/are-living-proof-no-frizz-products-good-for-curly-hair/ Check out the Mona Lisa!!! LOL

BTW, my nails have been much better lately. I don't know if it is the effect of that Barielle stuff or what, but they are not splitting as much and seem much harder.  I also have not noticed that they are any the worse for having buffed them down (the thumbs) to remove the ridges.  I hadn't had success with the ridge filler (looked goopy and you still saw ridges) so used one of those 3-sided buffing tools they sell in beauty supply stores/CVS.  One side is coarsest to file gently, next is finer to buff and third is finest to polish.  Cheap.  Seems to work just great.

Tina, I have a few ridges on several of my nails and I also use the buffing tools from CVS if I don't put on any polish. The other week I was at the local mall and walked by the kisok showing off the Dead Sea Minerals lotion and nail buffer. The guy noticed my long natural nails (slightly yellowed from just removing polish) and he showed me their nail buffer guaranteed for 5 yrs and how it would make my nails stronger and not leave them yellowed. He tried selling me the kit with their nail buffer, nail file, and lotion regularly 49.95 but that day only on special for 29.95 and if I bought 2 I got a 3rd kit free. The funny thing is they tried selling me the same kit 2 yrs ago at the same one day only price of 29.95. Of course I didn't buy any (Just spent $400 on new eyeglasses and sun glasses) but stopped at CVS on the way home and purchased one for $1.00 and did the rest of my nails.
