Bible Study for the Biblically Challenged Anyone?

Yep, Elaine, I am a personal trainer and I own a gym. It is more like a fitness studio. I have all the equipment that big gyms have, but no daycare, no staff, changing rooms, but not "locker rooms" and all that is just fine with me as much less to have to worry with.
-
I know this is not the right thread but...have a few questions you might be able to help me with. I would really like to be more physically active/exercise but have some physical issues to work around. Are there trainers who specialize in working with clients like me? needing to adapt "regular" exercises/training plans? where would I find someone, what do I look for/avoid/red flags or green lights?
Elaine
-
Absolutely there are trainers who can effectively work with you. You can pm me with your physical issues and I can offer advice.
First, look for one who is nationally certified and preferably with a degree in exercise science. The degree isn't necessary, and it in no way guarantees they have sense God gave a goose, just something to look for. Secondly ask around because recommendations give you a better chance of finding someone real good and compassionate, not narcissistic.
You can also call around to your local gyms and talk to some trainers over the phone. You can get a good idea of their knowledge and personality by talking to them over the phone. If they ask questions, good sign, if they only ask you how soon you can come in to see them, not such a good sign.
Let me know if I can help you anymore.

I promise I am going to continue these studies. I am working on one right now. Of course if anyone has one that they would like to post in the mean time, please feel free to do so!

I know this is off topic but... my mom (Ruth) had a colonoscopy today and a large polyp was found. It is possible that it is cancerous but we won't know until Thursday for biopsy results. Either way it will need to be removed. My Dad died in 11/07 so she is in the house alone, trying to go thru everyday motions while waiting. She is a strong woman, but I know she is worried about this. Would you remember her in your prayers?
Thank you my dear sisters...Elaine
-
Oh Elaine, I am so sorry for this news and will definitely pray that it is just that, a large polyp, B9. We know that our God is able. We females are strong as we withstand many things but that does not preclude worrying. Please let your mom know that you have called out the prayer warriors and we are going to send up many prayers on her behalf that the Lord will strengthen her to be able to get through the next few days. Please let us know how she makes out.
-
Thank you patoo, I am hopeful that she will get the results on Thursday (but we all know how those things go) Just hoping she will not have to wait the weekend!
-
Elaine, thank you for sharing this with us so that we can pray for your mom and for you! This must be especially scary for her because of your cancer and of course losing her husband. I will absolutley lift both of you up in prayers.
Please be sure to let us know as soon as you guys find out something!
I am soooooo sorry I still haven't posted anything here. I have no excuse, or at least a GOOD excuse. My bad excuse is a just keep forgetting to even DO my bible studies so I dont have anything to post. And if I do remember, I dont think of finishing it so I can post!!!!!!
I suppose I need to pray for my own dedication to God and this thread........

BIBLE = Basic Information Before Leaving Earth
There was a very gracious lady who was mailing an old family Bible to her brother in another part of the country.
'Somebody has said there are only two kinds of people in the world:
'Is there anything breakable in here?' asked the postal clerk.
'Only the Ten Commandments.' answered the lady.
There are those who wake up in the morning and say, 'Good morning, Lord,' and there are those who wake up in the morning and say, 'Good Lord, it's morning.'
-
How do I find page 4 for the first Bible study? I start registered Sunday night. I live alone and had so many questions and there are so many topics on this website. I found answers to questions I hadn't thought of yet. I saw this one this morning.
Thanks. Debbie

So I dont know about everyone else, but it seems like I find my self in more "poop" when minding my own business (a.k.a. MMOB). Does anyone else seem to find that to be true?
For example:
I was MMOB when I get a phone call from another gym owner in the area (whom I hadn't spoken with in about 4 years) telling me all kinds of stuff about another gym owner. Then, not more than an hour later, the OTHER gym owner is calling me doing the same about owner #1.....This happened a couple years ago and things got ugly between the two of them, I stayed out of it, but they both felt it necessary to "keep me updated"........

O how about the time when I was training a client, MMOB, when a guest comes in the door to see the facility. Well the guest goes to leave, kicks the door (by accident) FALLS down outside (and he was an "older" gentleman), then gets up telling me he hoped I had "good insurance"! WTHeck? I was MMOB!!! AND he broke my glass door! Fortunately I haven't heard anything from him....
Or, I had just gotten home from work, MMOB, when the phone rings. It is my gyno telling me something suspicious showed in my routine mammo and he had me seeing a surgeon in two days..........
Anyway, it still amazes me how "poop" happens when we are MOOB. If we were "busy bodies" or "trouble makers" when trouble comes knocking, it wouldn't be a surprise.
On the other hand, how many of us have AWESOME things happen to us when we are MOOB? I sure have had many good things happen too.
Back when I first opened the gym, it was such a struggle. I didn't want all these new clients to think anything was wrong, so I just kept smiling and kept training. Then out of the blue, one of them came to me with a check for $20,000+ for me to use to keep things going..........OMGosh, are you kidding me? It was to be repaid to, get this, a church in a different city, in my own time, with my own terms, with a 4 year grace period before the first payment!!!!
I am sure we all have praises just like this or even better.
Anyway, all of this got me to thinking about people in the Bible. The first one that comes to mind is Noah.
Noah is MHOB when God comes to him. It is now on Noah to "be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth." No easy task for 8 people! And God establishes His covenant with Noah to never flood the whole earth again.
Then there is Abraham, who is MHOB, and God establishes the EVER lasting covenant through him to save ALL mankind through out the ages.
I can't help but wonder if these two ever stressed out about the incredible responsibility laid on them. I wonder if they ever even realized the magnitude of these covenants.
So, I am going to begin this new study of various people in the Bible and how while MTOB, things good and bad that has happened to them.
I hope that people reading will share also.
-
Moodyk13, hello!
For the gym owners: Proverbs 4:23 (The Message)
For the man who wanted to cheat via an insurance fraud: Ephesians 4:28 (The Message)
For the call about your mammo: James 1:2-3 (from your own signature)
For the blessing of funds: Psalm 34:10; Philippians 4:6
For Noah and Abraham, I guess they may have wondered, even as they went about God's work, what it was all about. They had to deal with debauchery of the day but we have are living with incredible debauchery(sp) far exceeding (in my mind) what they experienced.
I seem to get into 'poop' MMOB because I know people are watching so they can try and validate that Christians are no better than anyone else. I'm not better, just blessed!
-
LOL Patoo! I am not better, I'm forgiven! I tell people that all the time! I say "that is why I serve a forgiving God, cuz I am always goofing up!
-
Hi,
I'm new to this site...been spending some time just checking out the different topics. There is so much to READ! Since my diagnosis of BC in March of this year, I really haven't talked with many others who share the same diagnosis so finding this site has been a good thing for me to read everyone's thoughts and experiences and to know I'm not alone!
From day one I have never claimed the disease as my own, believing that Jesus literally took it for my me (Isa 53) and I continue to stand on the faith that brought me to act out the belief that I am already healed - Praise God.
Just wanted to say that I find it encouraging to see how everyone here lifts up one another with their prayers and faithful thoughts - isn't that what life is really all about?
kccrawl - thanks for adding this topic. The Lord put in your heart the desire to teach and I thank the Lord for that - for He is Good and teaching is definately a good thing - especially teaching things of the Lord!
I did want to point out one correction on one of your topics. it's not Revelation(s), its Revelation
. I attended a bible study where is took about 2 years to get thru this book and found it so incredible and I absolutely love the book! I learned so much about myself thru everything that Jesus accomplished on the cross thru the study. To sum up in just a few words of my understanding of the book would be to say that we can't go wrong understanding all 22 chapters if we just focus and remember throughtout all the chapters the first verse of first chapter that reads: Rev 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ I hope to visit with some folks here...I've chosen not to work while I'm going thru treatment and some days I could use some good conversation.
Blessings to all
-
thanks Jo, will check it out
-
Welcome Dovehome - not happy to meet you in this forum but always thrilled to see another child of God.
Hi JO! MoodyK13 - pray all is going okay with you and Olivia.
Blessings.
-
Me too Moody.. you and Olivia have seemed to have vanished.... I pray all is well...
Patoo... I PROMISE I am not following you...
-
Hi everyone, and welcome Dovehome! We have been on vacation this week, so I have mosty been out of touch.
I have spent the last month re-writing Georgia's state dog laws. I presented my ideas to my Senator and State Representative and they have given me the green light to continue so that we can make preparations to present it to the legislature.
I know this is a path that God is calling me to take, because when I would only "think" about doing it, He wouldn't stop pulling my heart strings! Once I dove in head first, everything has just opened up for me. I have been studying laws in about 6 other states and working from those. It is a ton of work, but so rewarding as I know the dogs in this state are counting on this new legislation to give them the life that we are called to give all of God's creatures. What is heartbreaking is that we require laws to enforce what should otherwise be a "no brainer".
I also had my last reconstruction 2 weeks ago, and so far so good. If all continues to go well, I will be scheduling tatoos very soon! WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Olivia is still holding at about 75 - 80%, so that is good. She had one little episode this week on vacation, but it was cuz she had gotten too hot. She was better after cooling off and a nap.
Dove I would love it if you shared from your "Revelation" bible study!
Everyone continue t seek God, and He will continue to find us!!!!!
-
Karen, good to hear from you. Sounds like you are doing exactly what you are meant to be doing. Funny how that happens....Good to hear all the good news in you part of the world.
-
ELAINE!!!!! I was just thinking about you!!!!! How are you doing? Gosh, I am so embarrased that I have let this thread die out like I have. I only have "excuses" but that is all they are!
-
I know I am coming into this quite late in the game, however our church is really making some great recommendations to help its faithful. I read a Psalm-A-Day and make an absolution to pratice it's teachings. I also have my Daily Devotional "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers that I read every morning. There is also a wonderful resource, www.blueletterbible.com, that offers great inspiration with "Day by Day by Grace".
My wife had a Bilat just 5 days ago and is doing remarkable. The events in our lives from April to now have left no doubt in God's hand being in everything we do. He has blessed our lives and left and indelible mark on my life. Yes, she has cancer, but with faith in God and having a belief that we are not deserving of His grace then I know He will provide for us.
Ever thankful, Ever devout!
-
02bhealthyhusbum first of all, I welcome you, although the circumstances stink. I will be praying for your wife! I know I would have gotten cancer whether or not I believed in God. I am just so thankful that I do believe as HIS strength has gotten me through, and HIS healing has put me into remission.
I have the cd "My Utmost for His Highest" and I LOVE it! Thanks for recommending it here.
I have no idea where God will take this bible study next, and I confess that I haven't sought His will for it in quite some time. I am ashamed that I let so many other things take all my time and mind. I will do better at seeking His guidance to see where He wants to go here.
In the meantime, if anyone has anything that God has laid on their heart to share or lead, please feel free to do so as I truly love reading how God uses us all!
Have a blessed night!
-
Hi Karen, welcome back. You have a lot on your plate so we understand. We too have fallen short because we could have stood in the midst in the meantime.
Welcome O2b. Your wife is blessed to have you, a praying husband with a deep faith.
A testimony: my DS has faced many challenges his entire 25 years. He has cerebral palsy but has managed to earn an associates degree. His disability affects his walking, he does but with an uneven gait; he has learning disabilities affecting his concept of numbers and even with 20/20 vision he has no peripheral so cannot drive; transportation for people with disabilities is a joke here. This all makes getting a job hard.
A position opened at the company where I work; no experience or skills needed, and he could ride daily with me. I had him interview and had many friends and family praying for him. He was not selected and for various reasons I was extremely angry. I never knew my faith could be shaken so deeply; I could have turned away from God but I didn't. I held onto His promise. Job openings in this unit are very rare however, two weeks later, this past Friday, another opening came up and he was offered the job. This is only the work of God; our AWESOME Father.
So maybe we can think about a study on keeping the faith? I tell you it really scared me that I could come so close to losing it. We have to always be on our guard!
Blessings all.
-
Welcome back Karen! It is good to see you here again.. I agree with Patoo... we could have kept this going while you could not.
-
1 Peter 5:8-10
"Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring Lion, looking for some victim to devour. Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith.Remember that your Christian Brothers and Sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.In His kindness God called you to His eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. After you have suffered a little while, He will restore, support and strengthen you, and He will place you on a firm foundation."
Read into what you see in His words are telling you. Don't give in to doubt or feelings of "giving in" as those are what the Devils wants. Be strong, stand fast and fight for the Lord will protect all those who believe in Him and His only son Jesus!
-
Thank you O2B. I am so elated I didn't "give in" and will make sure that stays with me. It was so close but I'm thrilled that it scared me as I then did not become complacent. To become complacent puts us in satan's court.
I think I will print out your scripture above to hang above my desk.
-
Patoo- so glad it worked out, is amaxing how often it works out according to His plan, not ours. I believe this job will be even better for your son than the first. It was meant to be his.
Martin so good to see you here, and really good to hear things are going well for your wife. She has been in my prayers. I have to say tho, that I think we are all deserving of His grace, you are deserving of his grace. Simply by asking for it, acknowledging the need for it, the need for help, knowing that there are things in the world that are bigger than us.
Karen, so good to see you again. There have been many things going on for everyone I think. As I said in an earlier post, I think everyone was doing what they were meant to be doing and by His grace/action we have been brought back together, refreshed and renewed to start another conversation about, well whatever comes. I think these things are not to be pushed and struggled to get going but will lead us gentle and easily if we all just listen to the quiet voice that comes to us. It seems to be faith that is calling.
As you know I have struggled a bit with my bible/church relationship and beliefs but have been spending more time in prayer and quiet thought over the past few months. I think I'm being drawn in that direction more than just bible study (which I try to do). I have been writing down verses, prayers and thoughts that really resonate with me and have been creating my own book of prayer. This has been amazing!
Faith- wow it is such a simple thing and yet so hard when tested. That is an interesting thing- how do people keep their faith, develop it, strengthen it etc.
Hugs to all
-
Elaine, I got chills reading how your relationship is growing with Christ. I think your prayer book is awesome!!! It is so "neat" (for lack of a better word) the different ways we find to draw closer to Him!
Here is my "study" for faith:
Faith
Abraham had faith enough to leave his home land in search for the promised land. Genesis 12
Moses had faith enough to go up against Pharoah and lead Israel out of Egypt Genesis 3:11 - 15
I cant even count the number of times Moses' faith is shown throughout the scriptures....Ex 4:20, Ex 6:30, 7:20, 8:20, 9:1, 9:13, 10:1, and all through the first five books of the Bible
Joshua had the faith to cross the Jordon River as God commanded Deut 1:5 - 18
Gideon had faith enough to go up against the Midianites with only 300 men, as God commanded him to. Judges 6:7 - 7:25
The Bible is full of examples of people having complete and total faith that God was God, He knows all, He does everything for good, His love is never failing and His grace is never ending.
In all the great faiths shown, all were met with reservation. Every single person God called on responded with basically "What? Are you kidding? How?" attitudes. Our doubt that God has things under control goes back to the beginning of time and yet, God still forgives us, and He knows we are going to doubt.
But in the end, we MUST have faith that when life throws a curve ball (cancer, job, divorce, etc) God has it under control and His plan is always the best!
Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him : for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
Joshua 23:8 "But you shall hold fast to the LORD your God, as you have done to this day."
We MUST resolve to hold on to Him no matter the circumstances. Our devotion must be stronger than our fear of the unknown.
He has proven over and over to me that when a trial is over, I am in a better place. I can breathe and say "everything happened just as it was suppose to happen, and PRAISE God for it!"
-
So many things on faith in the bible. I am fascinated by how people find, develop strengthen faith. There are so many trials and tough times in our lives and yet people contnue to believe in something larger then themselves, protective, guiding, healing. The human spirit and human strength is awesome, awe inspiring.
I believe we are all where we are meant to be, doing what we are meant to be doing. We just need to be open to what is out there offered to help us thru. Ever wonder how the right person, or right thing just happens to be in the right place when most needed?
-
Now that's the Moodyk13 that we know and love! I didn't realize how very much I missed you here. Those scriptures are so inspiring after what I was going through the past few weeks.
EWB, I'm not sure that things "just happen" - I think God has orchestrated it all for our good. Even the trials cause us to grow. Yes, we are where we are meant to be, every step of the way. Scary sometimes but as long as we remember to hold fast as in Joshua 23:8 above, it will all work out.
Blessings.
