Penny and Vivre - No snow here and NC today! And dare I say it, finally no RAIN either! Sun! Windy though. But warm enough to buy and plant little herb and veggie plants in pots on my deck, in a T SHIRT!

My report! I did go to the gym, I think I had some blockage mentally about weight machines and my arms b/c of lymphademia scare. So I did 50 min on eliptical cross trainer (4 "miles"!) and then I did all those weight machines! I started on the lowest or near lowest for arms, and didn't push really hard. Just experimenting with the muscles. Felt good! Some of them make the muscles over my implants "go" and that feels wierd to me!!! Hopefully I will get used to it. I did all the leg ones too and pushed hard on those!  Did abs! Balance! My daughter was proud of me! (which is always a nice thing from a 16 year old!)

Kari, I remember sitting there one day in the waiting room and looking around at all the people in the cancer center. Every race, men women, young old. etc. It is sad and maddening to me, I am going to visualize empty Cancer waiting rooms and chemo suites!!!! But onward we go in the mean time... Your husband sounds like a great guy!!

I like cream of wheat, but OK on the steel cut oats! Those are on my list now...

Ok, back from mall walking.  Pooped out halfway through and my leg got achy so I called it quits early today.  Maybe the cleaning earlier did me in, hadn't vacuumed or mopped in a long time.  Also did some stretching, a few yoga poses and a little jumping in place (I was watching The Biggest Loser from last week, always a motivator!)

Springie - good job at the gym girl!!  Right on!!  My hubby is a terrific guy and everyone gets along with him, I'm a lucky lady as I found him at age 34 after a divorce and I had my two girls (11 & 13 at the time).  He wins an award!!

I've tried oatmeal in the past, but I just don't like 'em...shoot...I'm popping some red grapes and blackberries in my mouth right now!  yummo

    Lisa

You apparently are my inspiration!  I am taking the 7-day detox that I ordered from you and it is working like a charm!  AND, my biggest news....I  signed up for a Zumba class and it starts tomorrow!!!

I am a bit nervous since I have absolutely no rhythm and am completely uncoordinated!  It is at our YMCA.  When I registered I asked if they had a lot of people signed up (I was hoping for a small class), and they said it is so big they had to move the class to the big gym.  Now I am terrified.  The back row is definitely mine!

The oatmeal topic has my interest.  I almost picked up the steel oats today.  I always ate the Quaker oats 1 minute oatmeal, until I was away for my job and accidently bought the 5 minute kind.  It took a few days to get use to but since I was there for 2 weeks, I figured I would suffer through.  Now it all that I buy.

I did go to the gym today and pushed a bit beyond my comfort zone.  I had some bicep weight work. I used very low weight, just 5 lbs to start with in case my chest muscles hurt from it.  I also did 30 min. on the elliptical and the leg machines.

    Hello ladies

I have posted for a couple of days but I have been reading.  I took my day off on Friday but I did 60min on the elliptical on Saturday and 60 minutes outside with the dog today.  We also went to laser tag today.  It was a ton of fun.... very therapeutic when you have teenagers in the house!

No weights this weekend. Springtime my pects. always feel weird when I do some of the machines.  One of the machines I don't do at all anymore because it feels sooo weird.   But otherwise I just ignore it.

It sounds like everyone is doing so well!

    Take care

    Hey Dianne

Glad to hear the detox is working for you!!!!    Did you get the other package I sent?

I'm so thrilled you are trying Zumba...I'm sure you will love it.  The first day may be tricky, but you'll get it.  I can't believe their classes are so big!  Just be sure to get in a spot where you can see the instructor or at least be behind somebody who has been taking the class for a while!  Right now my largest class is about 30 people.

We are having a zumbafest April 24...three hours of Zumba!  My daughter and I have been working on some new stuff...that was my exercise for today.  That and walking around the mall looking for bras!  Can't wear an undwire...so the only thing we could find were old granny bras!  ROFL  So no purchase today!

Great job Springie, Karie and PT63

    Hey everyone,

I didn't walk this weekend though I did walk into a couple of stores!  LOL  Bought some clearance clothes for the grandbabies. Anyway, I bought a Mini Twist Stepper with Resistance Tubing bands for when it rains & I can't get outside to walk. Will try it tomorrow. I've used bands before but it's been quite awhile. I got out my hand weights & am going to try to get some sort of a pattern set up between the fast walking & those. How many reps are good to start with with the hand weights? Six? Ten?  I know not to do the same thing too many days in a row & to vary what you do. And to stretch before & after & to drink lots of water before & after. I'm a big water drinker anyway.

All this Zumba talk~I am going to google that!!

Springie~Wow, what a workout you had. I'm pooped!!

    Goodnight ladies,

    Val

hello everyone, and thank you to the gorgeous lisasayers for the invite!

i started AC dd treatments on 24, i've gained 12 lbs already and i have 4 more taxotere treatments to go. so it's back on weight watchers for me. but the hardest thing is going to be peeling myself off of the couch. instead of plopping down (and snacking and reading then napping) when i get home today, no matter how ragged i am, i'm going to walk the dog, at least around 2 blocks.

there. it's in writing. in italics, evn. so i have to do it.

Hi all, have been reading here but not posting. I need motavation, consistant motavation!

First I have some questions: what is Zumba? is it low impact? where does one do "it".

Also looking for ways to support insides either with diet or supplements. Tried going on line but rather overwhelmed, not figuring out how to sort thru all the stuff that came up. Am going thru threads on Complementary/Alternative but looking for any suggestions from seasoned veterans.

    Unique!!!!

I just wanted you to know that I have been using myfitnesspal.com to track what I am eating and my exercise!

I like it because I was told by dietician to have 20% or fewer calories from fat, and this allowed me to update the initial breakout, and I can now see it as I eat and enter things during the day.

It has been very EYE OPENING!!!!

    Thank you!

    Spring.

I survived Zumba!  Actually, it was a blast!  I didn't sign up with anyone but as I was walking in I saw a friend from work.  Yeah!  Then, when I went in the gym, there were a few teachers that my kids had in elementary school.  So, not signing up with a friend didn't matter at all.

I did better coordination wise then I did when I took aerobics, which was very surprising.  If any of you have an opportunity to try it, I say go for it.

I have to say, 5 weeks out from a mastectomy and turning 45 on Thursday, I rocked!  (not to brag) LOL!!

EWB- I am taking it at the YMCA.

EWB, Zumba is an international music-based cardio workout that anybody can do, no experience required.  It's more than exercise, it is about creating a place where we can go for one hour a day to sweat, dance, have fun and be silly.  It's about forming a common bond where we don't compete and we don't judge!   My classes are all non-judgement zones!

If you want to see if there is a class near you, go to www.zumba.com and you can look for a class there!

Dianne...I KNEW you would love it!!!!!!!!!  And of course you ROCK!!!  One hot Mama!  I turn 45 in May!!!!

EWB, as far as the supplements, etc., I take my women's power packs every day (one multi-vitamin, one multi-mineral, two calcium, one digestive enzyme and one superfood antioxidant).  In addition I take 2000 IUs of Vitamin D3, kelp, turmeric, CoQ10 and a mushroom complex.  I also try to eat at least one tablespoon of ground flaxseed a day. I'm looking into DIM or I3C, but still researching that.

I drink at least 5-7 cups of green tea per day and eat 2-3 organic brazil nuts for the selenium.  I drink a protein/fiber shake every morning as well.

My doctor sent me this link about ways to cut calories. While I do not agree with all of it, because I do not consume most of the alternatives, it has some interesting ideas for change:

Thanks for info Lisa. I am really interested in supplements/detox/cleanse but concerned about how that would effect meds I am on. Would this be something the onc would know about or is there a different specialist that I could consult. I have not seen much in the materials I have been reading regarding this.

I do use a lot of the anti oxidants in my cooking- tumeric, cumin, seaweed, cinnamon, variety of green things etc, take multi vitamin, calcium w/Vit D,  & spoon of cod liver oil daily. Looking at it written down, maybe I am getting more than I thought. Do drink green tea w/ clove, cardaman & cinnamon (sometimes add slice of orange, lemon or lime). I like making up a bunch, putting inglass jar w/slices of fruit and drinking thru out the day. While I am sure some of the good stuff is evaporated out during the day, its better than so many other choices.

My diet isn't too bad, but I need to find exercise/movement routine I can follow thru with.

    Happy sunny day to all...Elaine

Reporting in for yesterday: 45 minutes on the eliptical, 3.7 "miles", and soaked in sweat! woooo!

Now to enter it into Unique's recommended cool myfitnesspal.com site!  (plus my breakfast!) I was writing all this down on paper, love the online entry!

Lisa, You are so motivating.  I'm looking into taking a Zumba class.  Currently, I'm training for a Sprint Triathlon that's in August...but I'm thinking Zumba will give me some variety.  Also, I'm interested in your 7-day detox.  What does that look like? Is it something you can email me?

All of you ladies are a wonderful inspiration, I'm glad your here :)

Hi ladies  have been eating my way through Florida so today I used the hotel gym and feel better.

When I get home I promise to get back on the old bandwagon.

Spring:  Don't be afraid of the weights just use light ones and don't overdue it.  I am slowly getting my flexabiity back on my mast side. But I need it all back to normal before I can play golf. Its been hard to be here in this beautiful weather and just driving past the golf courses.I am hoping playing golf this summer won't induce LD.

    Have a great day Ladies.

Ohh, I just found a pedemoter, my problem has been that the clasic design breaks or falls off and I lose them. Thjis is a watch style that is ped, hr moniter and a watch. Now if I can just figure out how to program, I'm in business. I would have liked just a wrist ped but no go.

    Make it a great day!

    Hi there

EWB, I am the opposite.  I find lots of exercise I like but I seem to like food too much also.  The more I work out the hungrier I seem to be.  Yesterday was a crazy day at the gym soooo many people and I thought the New Years Resolution people would be gone by now.  I had to take turns with the weight machines.  Today was kickboxing day.  So therapeutic.

Next week I am planning on catching up with all of the reading that you lovely ladies have suggested. Gotta go finish carpool!

    Lisa, teachng again!! go girl!

I did 45 min on the eliptical cross trainer, and about 400 calories. (I enter this into the myfitnesspal.com tool!) I love that site Unique!

It was really really hard to do it tonght, I was so pooped. There have been massive lay offs at work, everything is in a swirl. I feel so bad for those let go. It breaks my heart....

I really like it better when I can exercise during the day. But I am still employed, so not complaining!

Another great site you all may want to check out is sparkpeople.com  About two years ago when I wanted to drop a few pounds, I found that site helpful...met a lot of wonderful people and it is free too!  I'm just not into counting calories...can't do it.  Which is why I like eating "clean".

Had four newbies tonight....and we got them all sweatin'

Now I'm ready for bed! LOL

    Make it a great night!

The stepper I bought gives me more of a workout than I thought it would-worked up a sweat on it & my lower legs ached like crazy Monday night. Will be on it again tomorrow morning.

Lisa~My daughter lives in Marquette, that's where my grandbabies are. I love it there. The whole area is beautiful.

Kari~When I was 15-16 yrs old, I lived in San Francisco & I really liked it. I'm a navybrat, my Dad worked on Treasure Island, we lived on the Presidio. (which is a park now, right?) Lake Tahoe is absolutely beautiful.

    Off to bed,

    Val

Lisa, thanks for the pointer. Somebody else mentioned that yesterday. I'll check it out. I used to PAY for WW online to get a service like myfitnesspal, but I like this one better even.

Warrior Woman Yoga tonight! 90 minutes. A friend does "healing touch" on be prior. Isn't that nice of her? And then we're off to Yoga....!!

Been very busy lately, getting ready for a group of French students who will be visiting for 2 weeks. So I have to get the house cleaned and I am finishing the grouting on my porch. That was 3 hour workout yesterday!

    • I am so proud of all of you who are making this committment to good health. As you get stronger, you will feel so wonderful, that you will never look back.
    • PT-like you, I have always liked exercise and never lost weight. I think it was the addition of weight training (muscle burns more energy) and a low glycemic diet that finally helped me.
    • Val-good to see you sweat! If you ever decide to head south to Chicago, give me a call and I will walk your butt off! Chicago is a beautiful city to walk or ride bikes along the lake.
    • Lisa-Looks like you are getting a real cult following! Way to go! What an inspiration you are. Now when you get your DVD's let me know. I do not like going to classes. I prefer to sweat when no one is watching! Actually, I just do not like the extra time it takes to go to and from a workout. The porch I am tiling is upstairs, off my bedroom, so I will soon have a private workout room. It has a great view of the yard, and I have no neighbors close enough to see in, so it will be heavenly. Get someone to start taping you!

Hi ladies, haven't done a thing except stretch for 2 days!!  YIKES...this darn pain in my right butt cheek/hip has me reelin', went to my chiropractor Tues, and I have knots all over!  He had to adjust my neck and low back, he said my walking everyday when my leg was aching was making the nerve pain worse...so it felt better for a bit, but he wants to see me again tomorrow after work.  I need to get in for some massages, he said I will greatly benefit from that.  Was waiting for the rads redness and itching to dissipate some more though.  I have to do a walk or a bike ride tonight though...!!

Val - a navybrat huh?  That's cool!  My first husband was in the Army so my girls and I got to live in a couple states and a lot of houses and would go on the Presidio when it was a navy base!  I do believe it is a park, but thought that some companies were also housed somewhere in there.  That's great about your stepper!

Vivre, I'm interested in your french students coming...how did that come about?  What are they going to do here??  just wondering...I like the sound of your private workout room with a view, I'm so jealous!!

Springie warrior yoga woman, I am in awe!  wow!  good job

Lisa, I did look up Zumba.com and emailed an instructor to ask about pricing...$15 a class.  Does that sound about right?  Thinking about trying one soon.
