    Good luck Denise!

Ebann - glad your tests are over. I know I'm always exhausted after the doctors. Emtional toll!

Good morning to all the house keepers!  Where are the sticky buns this morning?  I almost forgot about yesterdays pizza!  I guess it's better that I pretned eat them virtually!  Less calories that way.

I have to scrub the kitchen floor today.  Yuck!  I am having wood put in in about 2 months...yeah!  No more harsh chemicals!!

WAKE UP EVERYONE!!  Have a great day!

Am I the first up this morning?  OR the first to slack off and enjoy a cup of coffee with the computer???   LOL.

Bridge today - is there a pattern here?   I played yesterday and Sunday... I got groceries yesterday and put away the clean laundry.  At least my brain gets exercised with bridge and I get showered, dressed and out of the apartment for a bit.   What is that saying:  All work and no play ....

Who scared the warm weather away?  it is 35 degrees, but the sun IS out.   Have a good day.  HUGS,  Nancy

I have found the secret. OMG it is too easy! I didn't feel like doing anything yesterday, but when I was out grocery shopping I bought.........a chocolate bar with nuts!!!!!!!!

While we were putting away the groceries, I sucked. While we were putting up the blinds...you got it!  I think if we have to do something that we really don't want to do, but NOT every day things, we should allow ourselves a treat! While we're doing it. Not after. It's too easy to want to stop to have your treat. You can indulge as long as you are cleaning.

Hmmmm, if I eat it fast, then I only have to do one thing yet again! Or do I get a second one?

Barbe do you know how big we would all be if we treated ourselves per chore?Smile  I for one would gain 20lbs each laundry day. Keeping up with the dishes would be another 20 easily......... then theres the floors, cleaning the bathrooms........not sure Hersheys has enough chocolate stored up for women and  housecleaning choresUndecided

Since I am allergic to chocolate, I treat myself to old fashioned cake donuts.  When, IF, there are any with white frosting... I am in heaven !!!   Sad, but true.

    Good Morning all-

I figured I'd check in b/4 I started working.  I have had a laundry basket of washed clothes staring at me since Sunday and everytime I walk by it  I can hear it saying "put me away".   Along with all 6(each kid has a hamper in their room, I have one and there are three in the utility room) laundry hampers filling up again.  OOOhhh the laundry never ends in my house and ofcourse you can see my little one right on top of it...right????  Well atleast it's not up to the 14 loads I ususally have to do in a week.  Have a good one ladiesWink.

Liz, if the kids are old enough to have their own laundry basket, they are old enough to do their own laundry. Once they realize the work, they will change their clothes less...

If they aren't old enough to be changing their own clothes then you are the culprit! LOL

Found this how to get a room clean article from Wiki so thought I'd share it with you, except you gotta be on the computer now and then to let us know how the room is comingSmile PS it mentions moving some furniture and turning mattresses so ignore that part since most of us are still not up to that from the surgeries.

Will also try to find some clean room pics to get us motivated today.  My goal is to get the house cleaned and actually fix dinner tonight for the family.

    How to Clean Your Room

Some people are just naturally good at keeping their rooms tidy, while some of us need to be reminded, whether by a frustrated parent or roommate, or by not being able to walk through our room without tripping over something. The problem is that if your room is a mess, the prospect of cleaning it can seem like an overwhelming task. But if you approach it in "layers" as described below, it'll be much less intimidating and, who knows? You might have fun!

    [edit] Steps

    1. Turn off the computer, unless you are going to use your computer to listen to music, or read these tips. Close all the other programs, bookmark important sites you have up if you have to, but close everything. Sign off from any chat programs (Don't even take time to put up an "away message".) The temptation to chat or browse can be a major pitfall. If you are in the middle of something, then turn off your screen or save what you are doing and shut down the computer.
    2. Put on an album that you enjoy singing or dancing along with. Stay away from mellow, relaxing music--you need motivation. Turn it up as loud as you're allowed to put it so you're not thinking of anything else. Make a game of seeing how much you can get cleaned up during one song.
    3. Open all of your curtains or blinds and, if appropriate, the windows themselves to let some light and fresh air in. If you're cleaning at night, just turn on all of the lights. This will allow you to see everything and brighten your cleaning process. If you have a ceiling fan, turn it on. There's a good chance you'll work up a sweat.
    4. Sweep out everything from under the bed and dressers. You may be surprised to find just how much junk has accumulated there, much of which is probably stuff you'd thought you'd lost or may have simply forgotten about. Separate all of it into four piles: One is trash, the second is give away, the third is recycling, and the last pile is things that should stay in your room.
    5. Gather the trash and throw it away. Then recycle the recycling. Keeping a garbage bag in the room will help. Pull stuff out from under and behind the rest of your furniture like desks, dressers, end tables, nightstands or bookshelves. Your only concern right now should be trash and recycling so don't put anything else away, and don't start organizing just yet.
    6. Put everything in your room that you need to put away in a big pile on your bed. When stuff is all over the room it is easy to avoid, but when it's all right there in a big, tall pile, it is almost impossible to leave it there. As you're building up your pile, set any dirty clothes aside in a hamper or in a separate pile.
    7. Fold or hang your clean clothes and put them away, while throwing the dirty ones in the laundry basket. If you come across something that you haven't worn in quite some time, try it on. If it doesn't fit you, give it to charity, as long as it's not dirty or torn. Organize your closet and dressers. Close all drawers and doors; make sure nothing is sticking out.
    8. Attack the pile. Put everything in its place - don't just shove everything under the bed and call it a day - but don't organize yet. For example, put all the books where they're supposed to be, like on your bookshelf, but don't get caught up in organizing the bookshelf just yet, or else you'll lose momentum. Just keep grabbing an item from the pile on your bed, put it in its place, and move onto the next item. If you find something that doesn't belong anywhere, either consider giving it away, or make a place for it. Continue putting everything away (stuffed animals, photographs, purses, shoes, and so on) until your bed is cleared.
      • If you find things that need to be put in another room (like dishes that belong in the kitchen) grab a laundry basket or box and put those items in there. When you're done putting everything away that belongs in your room, you can go and put the rest of the things away that belong in other rooms. Individually taking the items to their spots in other parts of the house is a big waste of time.
    9. Time for the bed. Strip it bare. Take off all the bedding and use this opportunity to rotate the mattress. Flipping over your mattress not only increases its lifespan, but it will also feel great to sleep on the under-used side. Now, get out some fresh bedding and change the sheets. Then, finally make your bed. An unmade bed will make any room look messy by itself.
    10. Stack your books and magazines neatly, even those on the floor. Organize your bookshelf if you have one. Dust the books and the shelf surfaces with a feather duster or a moist cloth.
    11. Clean up your desk, organizing and dusting as you go along. Even a simple dusting can make your desk look more inviting to sit at again.
    12. Straighten or organize anything else that needs attention. Look around your room and see if there are any spots remaining that look messy. Now is the time to untangle your jewelry, put pairs of shoes together neatly, re-arrange your picture frames, and so on. Focus on the finishing touches.
    13. Mop or vacuum the floor. Believe it or not, even if the floor isn't too dirty, cleaning it can make your room look much better. Make sure you get into the corners and edges as well.
    14. Wipe all surfaces with a cloth or paper towel and an appropriate cleanser. Don't forget door knobs, mirrors and windows. If you have a ceiling fan, turn it off and dust it thoroughly with a damp cloth.
    15. Spray your favorite air freshener or place some bags of dried lavender or potpourri in your room (dryer sheets work wonders!)and reward yourself when you are done with something that you enjoy. You earned it!

    [edit] Tips

    • Move some pieces of furniture out of the room (if possible) before attacking the mess (for example: hamper, bean bag chairs, etc). This decreases the clutter a little, making it seem less overwhelming, and gets those big, useless things out of your way.
    • Try not to stop moving unless you are on a break. This helps you get done much faster, and helps avoid distractions from taking over.
    • Try to find a friend or family member to clean with you. Cleaning is always faster and easier when you're cleaning together.
    • Collect similar objects together so that they can all be put away together and don't bother about neatness at this point. For example, collect your clothes into one heap, stationery (pens, pencils, erasers etc) at one side. Collect papers, letters and bills into two heaps -- one for important and another for unimportant and collect items that don't fit any category (miscellaneous items) into one heap. Then begin attacking the heaps from the biggest to the smallest or alternatively start with the easiest items to clear first (Like clearing the kitchen items out). Clear the miscellaneous items last. Preferably start with the clothes and the bills. Finish with one category before shifting to the next. The idea with clearing out the larger or easier items first is to make the biggest change quickly, thus motivating you to clear up some more!
    • Take a short break if you have to. Just have your break in the room. You could make it 10 minutes for every hour, or 2 minutes for every 10 minutes. Don't get distracted on your break!
    • If there is a really big mess to clean up, try tackling one corner at a time. If you only focus on one section at a time, it makes a big mess seem easier. Just follow all the steps above for one corner, then repeat them for each corner individually.
    • Remove the largest items first when attacking the pile. Just a few of them and you will see a big improvement! Continue with the next largest items until you are left with the little stuff like change and pencils.
    • Take a few pictures of your room when it was messy and then when it's clean, clean, clean! When you are done, compare the before and after. You will see how much work you did and you will feel more motivated to keep your room that way.
    • Play a game to make it more fun. For example:
      • Cleaning Show: You can pretend that you are on a cleaning show. And you have to clean your room in a certain amount of time. And when you take breaks you can pretend that that is commercial time.
      • Lava: The floor is lava and the only way to win is to not touch it. While you are trying to survive, you pick stuff up so that the other players get eliminated. Once eliminated, you can pick up 10 items to get back into the game. No one can push one another or touch them in any way. You must put away everything you pick up. The game ends when there is nothing left to pick up. Note: this does not work unless everyone wants to play.
      • Basketball: Shoot garbage into the garbage can or dirty clothes into the hamper.
      • Colors: Pick up everything red and put it away. Then move on to orange, yellow, green, and so on.
      • The pressure's on: Pretend you are a servant to an evil lord who will have you destroyed if your room isn't clean on time. Or, pretend that mutant aliens are coming and if the room is not clean in (insert time), you are doomed (works best with children). If you are a girl then pretend you are a servant to a bossy princess and need to clean her room before she comes back.Try talking to yourself as you do it about your life. It sounds crazy but it works!
    • If you keep your room clean (e.g. put dirty clothes in the hamper at the end of the day, put away a book when done reading), you won't have to clean as often.
    • Schedule the breaks you will take, and never take a break you didn't schedule, so you won't lose time.
    • Once you pick something up, try not to put it back down until you put it in it's proper place.
    • If you are dusting your ceiling fan, or any other area that is visibly dusty/dirty, do that before cleaning the floor in case anything lands on the floor. If you don't have static wipes for the dust, simply damp a paper towel and wipe the dust with the damp towel, that will stop the dust from being thrown in the air.
    • Try not to waste to much time changing different CDs or going from album to album, set your iPod to shuffle it will help you get done a whole lot faster!
    • Turn your cellphone off. If you're watching TV or videos, it will probably will also distract you.
    • If you want you could go around your room, start from the left side and make your way to the right!
    • Stop reading about cleaning your room and just go do it!
    • Wash your bedding every week to make it comfy and clean to sleep on. You will sleep a lot better with clean bedding.
    • Definitely look out for sharp objects and put them somewhere you are not going to step on them.
    • If you have dust or other air-irritant allergies, take your regular allergy medication just before you start, or wear a dust mask.
    • If you stop cleaning, you will probably not want to start cleaning again. You can grab something to eat or drink, or go to the bathroom; just make sure you get straight back into the cleaning.
    • Hunger can become a distraction while working and make the cleaning process longer. Eat before you start (but not too much). If you know you're going to be cleaning all day, set out the food you are planning to eat and bring it to your room so you're less likely to get distracted.
    • Never stop cleaning unless it is a break you scheduled before you started cleaning.
    • Make sure you make all your shelves look presentable. If you just chuck things on your shelf or desk... it's not tidy!
    • If you have a hamster or any kind of small animal that requires a cage, clean put the cage and put fresh bedding into it! Most of the time, stuff like that stinks up your room as well!

Mom - I too am tired from reading "how to clean a room".  I do think that if we all got step one  (turn off the computer)  done, the house may actually get cleaned!   Thanks for sharing!

I think being allergic to chocolate should be illegal.

Off to make Pizzelles for my sons class.  FUN!

Couldn't get the Pizzelle's out of the machine.  Now I've got a BIG mess to clean up.  Guess it's easier to go  to the bakery and buy them.  My grandmother is looking down from heaven and wondering why I can't make them.

    Hey All,

I can't even begin to catch up on all the posts after just a few days,  I did skim through, WELCOME to all our new friends. Everyone has been so busy - and I actually have been too, not just goofing off in the Fla sun. But let me tell you I am exhausted as all get out, but in a good way, Between work (thank goodness I work at home) trying to get some housework done,  Margo (who is great by the way - but definetly a puppy - LOL) and now she and Roxie (my cat) have decided it is quite wonderful to play together, Oh my,  I am getting more exercise than I could have imagineed, Margo is great with the outside potty, but still needs work, so when she is out and about it is a constant watchful eye,  I am not even sure why I apply make-up or do my hair anymore, ten minutes after I am done my face is licked clean and my hair is eveywhere -LOL.  One great thing is she plays so hard during the day she is actually sleeping all night in her crate until about 5:30-6AM (Ed loves animals  - but he is not a pet in bed kinda guy - even though Roxie does sneak in once and awhile and lay by me) .

Coonie my daughter had her annula PAP test come back with High Grade Changes (Carcanoma In Stiu),  she was scheduled for a Colposcopy Tomorrow, her gyno cancelled until next Wednesday as her dad is quite elderly and quite ill, I am ashamed to say I was angry, another week of waiting and worrying -UGH.

Well girls, Margo is asleep for her nappy, so its off to iron and finish the floors, we have company coming this weekend, busy - busy week.

    XOXOXOXOXOXO - Cathi

I got the final pathology back on Harvey B9 so the dog is going to live to a ripe old age just like the rest of us. The dendist went fine I do having some reciding (sp) on the gum from all the vomiting from the last kind of chemo. Will address that after Costa Rica. So as far as cleaning I think I will tackle my sewing/junk room today. I just love this thread. Welcome to all the newbies.

    What Linda Said- Cathi

I remember when I got Deja almost 9 yrs ago.  it was when I was very anemic & had no energy at all.

I was sitting on the floor with her one day-trying to entertain her & all her energy  (we also had a 7 yr old dog) And thinking to myself- what was I thinking getting a puppy!  LOL.  She weighed 50# at 6 months.

Well I got 2 loads of Laundry done.  Went through the Biggest drawer in our bedroom.  Took out most of it to get rid of.  Opend some boxes in the closet...All summer stuff.  I have so many summer tops.  I really need to try them on to decide what i will keep.  I have to do that when I have cleavage- Or I will get too depressed.  So all the boxes went back in the closet...SO much for that.

Ok- Now what to do...I have my Old Vacuum excuse or rather standby. Sealed

Sounds like work- but really isnt.

Denise very good news about Your Dog!  Glad you found your Wallet too.

Well I got caught up on my paperwork that I have to send in monthly and mailed off some more packages that needed to get out in the mail. Funny how those little things can wear on you without realizing it. Did run a couple of loads of laundry but not much else. Will rest for a bit then try for more later. Somehow feel better just getting the packages off my mind.

Linda, there are 2 other Gyn's in the office that cover however they are doing emergency calls and scheduled C-Sections, so wait it is.  Frown

I did all of the ironing I had, 2 loads of laundry, and cleaned (except the shower) the bathroom in our bedroom, Ed does the tubs & showers he uses much stronger chemicals than I can tolerate, but boy there is not a germ that would/could survive.

As beautiful as the weather is we need rain so bad, our front lawn is healthy and happy as we have reclaimed water hooked up and can water when ever we want, our back yard is just a dry dead mess,  can't water it,  it will have to be reseeded once the rainy season comes, if it does this year.

Pam now that my cat is playful with Margo I can entertain a bit less, but she is definetly attached to me my shadow for sure,  we are doing a little better with leash walks at night, but she still is not at all happy about that - it's a big scary world for her.

Well now I must do some work I actually get paid for (LOL).

    XOXOXOXOXO

Boy, I sure needed a laugh.  I was exhausted by the time I finished reading about how to clean.  I do agree that the first step is to turn off the computer.  I am way to fortunate to have a very tolerant DH.  At Valentines, I went into my scrapbook cabinet to find the materials to make a card. I pulled everything out.  Didn't go right back in.  Decided to organize it while it was all out laying all over the family room, sharing space with the quilting projects needing to be finished.  Of course to organized effectively I had to remove everything from the cabinet.  I was absolutely APPALLED at the amount of stuff I had.  O my gosh!!!!!  I finally got all the stickers/do-dads catagorized and labeled and in the drawers.  Now I'm working on all the paper.  I've gotten them into the different catagories but haven't figured out a way to get them all back into the cabinet.  I am so embarassed.  At some point, DH is going to hit his "wall" and he's going to call someone to take it all away.

I don't know about anyone else, but I wake up with all sorts of good intentions for the day.  I have an idea of what I'd like to get done but .......  What happens between when I wake up and all of a sudden its time to go to sleep?  I know my attitude has changed as far as what my house looks like when people come over.  If they like me for the way my house looks like or doesn't look like, than they can't be the friends I thought them to be.  But I do know I have to do some work.  I have a sewing room that I can barely walk into.  I just throw stuff in and close the door.  Oh I really hate my attitude but just don't have the "oomph" to change.  Anyone have any ideas?  It sure felt good to laugh when reading some of the posts.  The sense of humor is wonderful.  I had a steriod injection Monday so the so-called high should kick in by weekend, sometime after the initial pain that I have now subsides, or so I am counting on.  I just go day to day and hope for the best.

Thanks to all of you for the great thread.  If nothing else, I don't feel so alone or such a lousy person.  Happy cleaning or at least the thoughts of doing it.

    Blessings,

    Wendy

    Hello Sisters;

Well I swept & mopped the floors. My room is left to do. Just make the bed and put the clothes in the hamper to do tomorrow. Joy! I to have a think with getting the clothes put away. We sort them and fold them just do not always get them put away. My husband is in shock when he finds them put away. I really should do it. Hmmm some day! oh maybe that chocolate idea....mmm that sounds so good to me.

Ill tell you one thing- Im not turning off my PC- LOL

    Pam,

I had it all planned out.  I foster kittens and cats and used my guest room to keep them separate from my own cats. When the last ones left, my plan was to empty the sewing room into the guest room and pretend I was on one of those "Clean House" shows.  They say you have to empty the room out and the use the three piles to get organized.  So I started to get the guest room ready for the sewing room stuff and got involved in emptying out the closet.  I went to put something away in the drawers and found they needed attention before I could put the stuff away.  That was before Christmas.  Needless to say the sewing room stuff has not been started and I have the family room, i.e. scrapbook cabinet, to get finished before I can start anything new.  Then I get so tired just thinking about what has to be done that, well, what can I say.  Am I a bad person?  I know people don't understand some of us and our addiction to fabric.  I need more fabric like a hole in the head but when I see a beautiful floral or batik, get me out of the store fast.  I need a job where I have to use what I have in my stash.  Then I need the "get-up-and-go" to actually do the work.  Unfortunately I don't like chocolate so I can't even use that to motivate but I say "go for it.  Chocolate break for everyone who is into it".

Thanks everyone for letting all of us be real people.

    Blessings,

LOL- My Husband Jokingly used to put me on 'Fabric Probation'.

he has always put up with my Fabric addiction.

We used to go to my favorite warehouse & hed help pick out fabric he thought I would like...My Answer was always "Nice, I have that already'  So he was good at knowing what I liked.

I have been very good at not buying any fabric for about 2 years...Well tiny pieces maybe 2 times a year.  6 weeks ago- I just had to buy fabric...I still have the stuff in the bag...i dont know what I was thinking...I really needed a fix.

To make this cleaning related...I got a load of sheets going since my last post & went in the sewing room endless pit & boxed up some loose stuff on the floor.  LOL  (I was getting tired of tripping over it :o)
