Karen I have been constantly watching for good news about Olivia.  I haven't heard you sound this postive about her in a long time.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed and praying that this does the trick for Olivia!

I am so glad you've got a bit of encouraging news!  You must feel so relieved that at least something is being started in regards to treatment.

I have to agree with the other girls that think a second opinion is still a good idea.  After all you've gone through it can't hurt to have a thorough check by people who specialize.

Still praying but with a lighter heart.  THANKS GOD,once again!!

So far no change, but I figure it will take several days of new stuff to see a difference.  That is my story and I am sticking to it.  LOL

Karen - Hope Olivia is doing better this morning. I've been following this thread and praying for both of you during this time. I love her picture!!! How is the ginger working? A suggestion just came to me this morning - and it may have already been suggested or tried. Can you get a big wedge pillow or several bed pillows for Olivia to sleep on at night? Or put wood blocks under the top of the bed to elevate the whole top of the bed? Or let her sleep in a recliner? This helps keep the acid from coming up higher in her stomach and may help the night-time nausea. I'm guessing you have her take the Regaln and/or Nexium at night, or close to bedtime to decrease the acid production during the night? We'll keep praying!

Thanks as always Ladies!  You all are such a blessing to us every day!

I won't get this in order, but here are some responses to above suggestions.

She is sleeping in an elevated position.  Pretty much has most of her life because it helps to keep her nose from stopping up at night.  (she gets that from me Undecided)

I did get her some ginger root to take.  She took one, and swore it made her more nauseated (this WAS totally mental, but what do ya do)

We are def keeping appointment at Wake Forrest.  In fact, I called them a little while ago to finish registering and asked to be put on a "cancellation" list, to hopefully get in quicker.

So here is where we are ......  Yell

She is been a little worse since going to the doc on Wednesday.  But here is the problem.

    1.  She has been working with her "homebound" teacher this week getting caught up in school and has a ways to go (she has been out 6 weeks)

    2.  I told her teacher that she was gonna have to go back to school on Tuesday b/c her homebound expires.

    3.  She started new meds

I dont know which is causing her to be worse, I am betting a combo of all three.  I beleive she is SO afraid of throwing up at school that it makes her anxious, making her feel worse.

But again, it hits her the worst at night, in the middle of the night.  So NONE of it makes sense!!!  She had us up at 4:30 am today.  Every single solitary night, she wakes me up b/c she feels so bad.

    eerrrrrrr

    oh crud.

here i was signing on to hopefully join in on some merriment & happy dancing.

you're certainly one step forward and one back again.

i am so sorry that the progress has been so slow, so horrendously slow.... can't spell it, but i don't want to swear. *^()*)(*@)#(%&(^_)*(&)#($&#@#!()%*)(!!

everything i can think of sounds like such an empty platitude, as i attempt to think of what on earth to say.

all i can come up with:

    prayers and more prayers.

Oh Karen.  I was SO hoping that the new meds would be the answer to all our prayers.  Maybe it's just a matter of time.  I can't imagine how totally wrung out you (and poor, sweet Olivia) must be.  I know how hard it is sitting up with a sick child for just a couple of nights.  Take care and keep the faith.  I'll continue to pray for you and your family.

    Hugs,

    Karen

Oh Karen and Olivia I am so glad to finally read so good news.  We all will be praying that the meds work that the condition has been diagosed and that you CAN cancel that appointment at Wake Forrest.  This has been a nightmare for you and I pray that it is almost over.

    Karen,

Hoping you start getting more rest.  This has been such a long ordeal for you and Olivia and your family.  I am with the other gals - keep the other appointment.  It can't hurt to have a second, third, fourth opinion.  I'm so sorry you are going through this and wish there were an easier fix.  You must feel like Job at times!  He just kept on trusting.  Sometimes the darkest hour is right before dawn!  Keep the faith.

Karen - I got this off the web:

Symptoms indicative of Reflux Disease or GERD:

    • refusing food or accepting only a few bites despite being hungry or the exact opposite requiring constant small meals or liquid
    • food/oral aversions
    • anemia
    • excessive drooling
    • running nose, sinus infections
    • swallowing problems, gagging, choking
    • chronic hoarse voice
    • frequent red, sore throat without infection present
    • apnea
    • chronic ear infections
    • respiratory problems-pneumonia, bronchitis, wheezing, asthma, night-time cough, aspiration
    • gagging themselves with their fingers or fist (sign of esophagitis)
    • poor weight gain, weight loss, failure to thrive
    • erosion of dental enamel
    • neck arching (Sandifer's Syndrome)
    • bad breath

As with reflux, children with GERD will not necessarily exhibit all these symptoms, for example children with silent reflux will not throw up. Another child suffering from asthma or chronic ear infections may actually have undiagnosed reflux that requires treatment.  One or more of the symptoms listed could mean your child has reflux or GERD.

If you believe your child shows any of these signs, educate yourself on the treatment methods and then contact your doctor to discuss the best way to treat your child.
